Fox’s Ideologue-in-Residence

Fox’s Ideologue-in-Residence

Fox boasts about redefining cable news — apparently it’s decided to redefine the term “journalist” as well.

Yesterday, Fox posted a 1,500-word “news article” that purportedly “places responsibility squarely in [U.N. chief Kofi Annan's] office for obscuring mismanagement” of the Oil-for-Food program. The piece was co-authored by Claudia Rosett, who is identified at the end of the article only as “a journalist-in-residence with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.” Sounds harmless enough, right?

Except the Foundation is an “aggressive…neoconservative think tank” designed to “shape American thinking on war, terrorism, and the Middle East,” according to a gushing piece in American Conservative magazine. And Claudia Rosett is described by prominent conservative columnist Victor Davis Hanson as the “single brave maverick” to take on the oil-for-food scandal, which the right-wing has deceptively shaped into an anti-U.N. smear campaign. Moreover, Rosett’s think tank “has been attacking the United Nations since long before corruption in oil-for-food came to light.” In May 2003, Foundation President Clifford D. May blamed “the deaths of millions of innocent victims” on “U.N. fecklessness.”

A web search showed this is the first such “news piece” written by Rosett for Fox, though she has appeared on several Fox News television programs, including Fox’s recent discredited expose, “Breaking Point: U.N. Blood Money: Kofi Annan Under Fire.”

Wow, this is low even for Fox. You should seee if they’d let Podesta write some articles.

Whew. Things are getting really blurry around here….

  3. JOHN HENRY says:

THE U.N. IS THE MOST USELESS, INEPT, ANTI-AMERICAN CLAP TRAP PIECE OF SHIT THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN..WE SHOULD NOT GIVE THEM A DIME OF US MONEY, GIVE ALL DIMPLOMATS FOURTY EIGHT HOURS TO GET OUT OF THE COUNTRY, THEN TURN THE U.N. BUILDING INTO APARTMENTS FOR THE HOMELESS. START TODAY

  4. Dave says:

It’s difficult enough to have a world view when your head is shoved so far up your ass that you think you see your brain, but the UN is the ONLY world body we have and we need it. This planet doesn’t belong to the US of A and no, we’re not #1. Stop all the grandstanding bullshit.

  5. Black Max says:

Don’t bother responding to the half-literate Limbaugh spouter. He’s only doing what he’s been told to do by one of his little talk-radio gods — post irate conservative boilerplate on liberal and left-leaning blogs. Notice the “convert the UN into housing for the homeless” sop to lefties. On their own blogs and boards it’s a little different — they recommend burning the building to the ground (often with diplomats and UN personnel still inside), converting it into a whorehouse, or something equally charming.

That’s why you can’t argue sense into these people — it’s like trying to convince the pod people not to come after the rest of us in howling mobs.

Wait, they ARE howling mobs. Pitchforks and torches to be issued at the next GOP convention.

  6. Tim Cianciola says:

I find it interesting that the same right wing wackos who want to abolish the UN are some ones who felt the need to go to war in Iraq because Iraq was violating UN mandates.

    Good one Tim!
The word “Hypocrite” is not in the re-pug-lican dictionary.

  8. Ken says:

The illegal US occupation fprce loses $8 or $9 Billion dollars in a year of Iraqi money not to mention the US dollars that have gone into fraud, waste and corruption. But don’t look at that lets look at those are our friends who stole that and they are paying us to work up the drumbeat on investigating a much smaller amount that went missing over a much longer period under a much more complex arrangement.
Same logic as the S&L scandals. The Bush bros steal whatever isn’t nailed down. Niel gets off with a slap on the wrist ( and approx. $2 Mill.) on a S&L that cost the US taxpayers over a billion. Jeb gets cover for his looting of another one from one of daddy’s boys saying his theft was a matter of National security because the CIA was involved in that S&L that cost the US taxpayers $2 billion to clean upbut lets spend $25 million investigation Clintons loss of $50 grand in one of the smallest S&L collapses of the period.
Its not right or wrong just which side of the Bush family your on. If you are there friend – steal anything. If your not they will fabricate and perjure to frame you.

Yep, the Grand Ol’ Prevaricators would also like the hollow out the other dissenting voices of the ACLU, moderate judges and of course the Democratic party so they can further their move toward become a fascist state. Senator Byrd is right on the money!

Good ‘ol John Henry gets around all the blogs, and it seems he always types in ALL CAPS and always uses profanity. Why is that, John?

Until we can figure out a way to work through our problems as a nation, without shouting at, interrupting, demeaning and denouncing those we happen to disagree with, we can only continue to slide downhill. I seem to remember Mr. Bush running as a uniter, not a divider. Language like that I see coming from the right does not unite us, sir.

Beware of anyone who wants to “shape American thinking” or shape anybody’s thinking, for that matter. Usually those people don’t want you to think at all.

  13. Brendan Martin says:

You note that the “(The) American Conservative” magazine featured a “gushing” piece about this neocon foundation. You didn’t bother to follow your own link. The piece is hardly a “gushing” one, as “The American Conservative” is a vehemently ANTI-neocon magazine founded by Patrick Buchanan, who masterfully dismantled Natan Sharansky, poster boy for the Foundation for Defending Democracies on “Meet the Press” a few weeks ago. Progressives need to wake up to the fact that people like Buchanan have splintered from conservatives as represented by the Bush administration and represent tactical allies in the fight against neocon war-mongering. Indeed, it should shame the left that Buchanan is virtually the ONLY public critic of the Israel lobby in our major media. Give this fighter some credit instead of being so squeamish about his social conservatism.

The Truth needs to be spoken. When you have what I’ve coined as “©Surface Reporting,” (whick means that reporters and journalists inability or lack-of-desire to report on anything thats below the surface, like a submarine. They’l mention that there is a little thing sticking out above the water and it seems harmless enough – Instead of diging and reporting that that thing sticking out from the surface is connected to a nuclear submarine that is about to decimate everything in it’s path)
THIS THING ABOUT Mr. KOFI ANNAN, this crazy, overbearing, hatred is really about the color of his skin. There are certain types of people that do not like darker hued humans (also known as black but can anybody tell me where Black is on the world map?) He is dark shinned, Black, and is commanding tremendous power (over whites, as they see it). Too much power for a dark skinned person to have, so, he must go. But they can’t really put it that way so they come up with all other kinda of bull shit reasons for their desent, but it really goes back to their base – Racial Hatered

Let’s start calling them what they are-Fascists.

  16. boilerman10 says:

Is anyone really surprised at this move by Fox? There is no need to be concerned, except that Fox will be the voice of American Fascism. Don’t forget this. American Fascism will have little need for the UN, and with militarism first, and statism second with lots of religion smeared on for good measure, I am sure it will be a winning combination…..for awhile. Until the world fights back…..

  17. S J Noxid says:

Regarding a previous posting by a blockhead… He stated that “we should not give them a dime of US money”. Actually, the US is one of the worst Nations for defaulting on their UN contributions. The US wants it’s say, but doesn’t want to pay. Typical!
