Apparently, all ideas are not exactly “on the table.” Here is President Bush in an interview with six reporters in the Oval Office today:
Q: So you would rule out add-on accounts?
A: In my judgment, the best way to go forward is to allow a personal account to be created out of the payroll taxes being paid into the system.

I don’t even understand why we need add-on accounts. Social Security is fine! Why can’t people get that through their thick heads!
March 16th, 2005 at 2:32 pmYea but if we let them have add on accounts (on top of SS) that takes the wind out of their sails to eliminate SS (which is their objective, make no mistake about that).
I mean, I have a 401K at work that I’m sure is better than anything they can come up with, so I won’t participate. But let others if they want.

The problem is that this will drain the money needed to pay current retirees, leading people to object to the added taxes that will then be needed. And, that will cause people to support killing the whole program. It is a devious, evil plan they have, but it might very well work.
March 16th, 2005 at 7:18 pmIf they wanted to be really devious and evil, they could just steal the money out of the trust fund, and then say there is no way to pay it back! If they did that, how long do you think it would take Democrats to recognize that SS is NOT fine? But if they tried to do that the Liberal Media would be all over them….wouldn’t they?

Have you considered the fact that the aarp might be trying to do something that will have long range benefits, beyond the scope of our lives, affecting our children? They are a large organization now, over 30 million I think, a powerful lobby.
