“I have not laid out a plan yet, intentionally.”
– President Bush, 3/16/05
VERSUS
“President Bush’s plan allows you to make a decision to put your money in a different kind of prudent investment, with the potential for receiving higher pay-outs.”
– White House press release, “Fact Sheet: Setting the Record Straight,” 2/3/05
I think Bush knows the American public already has low expectations for government and he’s taking advantage of this and trying to take it to a new low.
March 16th, 2005 at 8:16 pmThis is all just a smokescreen to get through other Republican priorities which are unpopular such as lawsuit “reform” and bankruptcy “reform”. If everyone is obsessing about Social Security, they won’t expend much political capital on stopping the other efforts. This is classic Karl Rove. See my recent blog on this topic: http://www.globalsynergies.com/evblog/2005/03/social-security-trojan-horse-for-moral.html
March 16th, 2005 at 8:36 pmYes, smokescreen is very probable, however, in their arrogance, BushCo thought that they might have gotten away with it all. They may still get away with it all, in some insidious way such as ANWAR drilling, Delay’s ethical questions, or that 3 AM vote. BushCo has always relied on smokescreens or the “dark of night”. When the majority of Americans wake up to the damage BushCo has done, he’ll be out of office.
We will be left to pay tremendous debts in every way – education, workforce, environment, economics, healthcare, senior issues, Veterans care, legal, local and federal taxes, legislative and Constitutional.
As to low expectations, Corporate America doesn’t want their workforce smart enough to be a threat, just smart enough to know who signs the check. Corporate America have opted for options rather than ethics.
Much of America is comforted by low expectations. It’s the “my child beat up your honor student” mentality, and the general lack of respect for educated thinkers. Fox has built their audience on people who disrespect educated people as an “elite”.

March 17th, 2005 at 6:53 pmThink Progess catches the Bush administration in a contradiction…
Leave it to Bush to debate himself.
