For the Kids?

For the Kids?

Today, members of the Government Reform Committee are fretting about the state of Major League Baseball, claiming they are concerned about the implications on the health and well-being of America’s children.

Maybe Congress really is concerned about the welfare of children, but there isn’t much evidence to back it up. There hasn’t been any legislation addressing the 13 million kids who go hungry every year. Wal-Mart is violating child labor laws, but there is no indication that H. Lee Scott will be subpoenaed to come in and defend his company’s practices. And, if the leadership in Congress gets their way, 90,000 students will lose their money for college through the proposed cuts in Pell Grants.

But apparently, Committee Chairman Tom Davis is more concerned that “[k]ids aren’t just talking about their favorite teams’ chances in the pennant race. They are talking about which pro players are on the juice.”

Could you criticize everything any Republican does? They have done some good and this is a good hearing that will show Baseball that their actions do effect the nation’s youth. Give them a break!

  2. Krazny says:

given how the republicans have been bending over backward to screw the poor, and give more money to the rich, hell yeah I will criticize everything the republicans do. There wasn’t any well maybe Bill is doing good on that issue during the Clinton years.

The real issue is the amount of time being wasted on steroids while there are other “real” problems that go unsolved: hunger, war, etc.

  4. kindness says:

Hey pat – is steroid abuse in sports more important than, say you being able to collect Social Security? How about running up trillion dollar defecits? OK, how about the tanking of the dollar relative to other currencies? Get a clue as to what IS important.

I think that is the whole gist of this thread but you apparently didn’t see that.

Oh, Congress is very concerned. They continue to look the other way as drug giant Glaxo-Smith-Kline continues to forcibly test new and experimental drugs on New York City foster children and orphans with HIV and Aids.
This story should be one of the largest scandals in our country, but it goes largely unreported.

Protecting the young, innocent and sick from being preyed upon and used as guinea pigs has got to trump self inflicted abuse; by a government claiming to care for children.

    And yes, it’s true.
