Tom DeLay Uncensored

You got a taste yesterday in the New York Times. Think Progress brings you the uncensored version DeLay’s speech to the Family Research Council on Friday.

Read the Transcript:

And so it’s bigger than any one of us, and we have to do everything that is in our power to save Terri Schiavo and anybody else that may be in this kind of position.

And let me just finish with this: This is exactly the issue that’s going on in America. That attacks against the conservative movement, against me, and against many others. The point is, it’s, the other side has figured out how to win and defeat the conservative movement. And that is to go after people, personally charge them with frivolous charges, and link that up with all these do-gooder organizations funded by George Soros, and then, and then get the national media on their side. That whole syndicate that they have going on right now is for one purpose and one purpose only and that’s to destroy the conservative movement. It’s to destroy conservative leaders and it’s, uh, not just in elected office but leading. I mean Ed Feulner, today at the Heritage Foundation, was under attack in the National Journal. I mean they, they, this is a huge nationwide concerted effort to destroy everything we believe in, and, and you need to look at this and what’s going on and participate in fighting back.

Don’t, you know, the one way they stopped churches from getting into politics was Lyndon Johnson, who passed a law that said you couldn’t get in politics or you’re going to lose your tax exempt status because they were all opposed to him when he was running for president. That law we’re trying to repeal; it’s very difficult to do that. But the point is, is when they can knock out a leader then no other leader will step forward for awhile because they don’t want to go through the same thing. When, if they go after and get a pastor then other pastors shrink from what they should be doing. It forces Christians back into the church and that’s what’s going on in America: “The world is too bad. I’m going to go get inside this building and I’m not going to play in the world.” Uh, that’s not what Christ asked us to do. And, and so this, they understand that it is a political maneuver, and, and they are, uh, going to try to destroy the conservative movement and we have to fight back.

So, please, this afternoon, each and every one of you, if you know a senator give him a call. Tell him, they’ll say, “Our bill can pass in the House.” Tell him, “That’s fine. Your bill’s okay but the House bill is better and, uh, I want the House bill.” Particularly if you know Democrats, uh, don’t let them get off the hook, um, by hiding behind one House and the other is adjourned. We can do anything we need to do to pass any bill that we need to pass. So I appreciate what you’re doing. God bless you and thank you for the Family Research Council.

  6. NLacey says:

Please address in your commentary a question uppermost in the minds of many people I have talked with regarding the Shiavo circus. Who is paying her parent’s legal bills? I understand it is the Philantrophist Foundation that includes contributions from Scaife, Bradley, etc who supported bringing down Clinton at all cost and are heavily involved with the Federalist Society. Is this not DeLay and Company’s bread and butter? (Presumably, Michael Shiavo’s attorneys are asking for payment of their legal fees from plaintiff parents every time he wins.)

The point: How can the parents afford to keep this legal battle going ad infinitum?

  7. NLacey says:

    Please address the following:

Who is paying the legal bills from Shiavo’s parents? Hear it is a “philantropic foundation” comprised of Scaife, Bradley and other conservative foundations wedded to the Federalist Society.

I assume, Michael Shiavo’s attorneys are asking for attorney’s fees to be paid by plaintiff parents if their side wins.

  8. Willie Loucks says:

Bush said god told him to be president, Delay andFrist invoke religion in every they say: Are they blaming god on the mess this country is in.

  9. Jon says:

Does the Schiavo tragedy show that the conservative movement is approaching a meltdown?

Maybe not, but the yawning chasm between economic and social conservatives, dormant for two presidential elections is reemerging and with it, a serious threat to the Republicans’ majority status.

  10. Bei says:

Well DeLay is right in one sense – we are trying to destroy the conservative movement.

When the big man starts taking on Lyndon Johnson, you know they’ve jumped the shark. I mean, can’t they get a good Ted Kennedy/Jane Fonda/ New York Times whipping boy to trot out?

  13. Albert Raine says:

Originally, I was surprised that the “Family” and the PNAC folks actually believed they could change the power structure to favor their agenda. Then I watched them do it. I really thought that as they became more strident, that they would be “exposed” and the they would go away. Boy, was I wrong. It just goes to show you that in any given situation, there are more dumb people than smart people. Er..maybe I should be PC and just say “50.8% of us are slow learners.”

“The point is, it’s, the other side has figured out how to win and defeat the conservative movement. And that is to go after people, personally charge them with frivolous charges…and then get the national media on their side. That whole syndicate that they have going on right now is for one purpose and one purpose only and that’s to destroy the conservative movement. It’s to destroy conservative leaders and it’s, uh, not just in elected office but leading.”

As a longtime observer of fundamentalist excess, I’ve seen some textbook cases of projection in my day. (Want to know how a televangelist will eventually go down? Just listen for the sin he spends the most time hollering about. They’ve all got their favorites — and invariably, when Judgment Day arrives, that will be the exact same cookie jar they’ll be caught with their hands in.)

But this is just breathtaking. Of course, those nasty Democrats thought this up all by themselves. Republicans would NEVER stoop to such tactics!

Yep. If the shark’s not already behind ‘em, it’s not far ahead and looming up fast.

  19. Croaz says:

DeLay doesn’t seem to realize (care?) that with this fiasco he and other GOP reps have utterly destroyed the last shed of the conservativism in this country. It’s now fair to define the “conservative movement” as a “religious movement” as that’s all they represent anymore.

  20. Bones says:

In other words,Tommy Bug Killer is saying to his religious friends, protect my back if you want me to cover yours.

    Good point Croaz.

  21. Phinky says:

He can dish it out but he can’t take. Poor baby. Like my drill sergeant used to say, “suck it up and drive on”
Tom, if you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the house.

  22. Brutus says:

Delay is just another example of the house of cards starting to crumble.Without the standard “9/11″ to fall back on,cons got nothing.

Take a look at the latest CBS poll .The Sean Hannitys are digging a hole for the party quicker than Delay can initiate another ethics charge.

  24. Jesse says:

This cowardly buffoon of a man is using the tragedy of Terri Schaivo’s persistent vegetative state for political gain, no two ways about it. The claim that “they” (apparently everyone who doesn’t agree that Congress should intervene in private family matters such as that of Terri Schaivo’s tragedy) have figured out how to kill the Conservative movement is patently partisan. And using the fact that many Democrats (and since we all know that Democrats must be liberal, and all liberals Democrats) don’t believe that Congress has a duty to intervene in these types of matters to bolster the notion that attacks against Mr. DeLay are purely politically motivated is such a despicable and dirty move that words cannot describe the disgust and contempt I now hold for this dirtbag of a man.

The notion that it is Liberals who are going to kill the Conservative movement is nonsense. It’s underhanded, dirty tactics like this that are going to make people see the people in charge of the Conservative movement for the scumbags that they are. It’s speeches like the one Tom DeLay gave that lend credibility to Liberal’s criticisms of Conservative leaders. It’s the exploitation of tragedies like Terri Schiavo’s that are going to make blind followers of Conservatism question the decisions, ideals and motivations of the weasels they follow.

  26. Vinilo Suave says:

William Penn said, “To help mend this world is true religion.” These embattled reactionaries say, in chorus, cheek to cheek, ‘To help rend this world is true religiosity.”

  27. tim says:

Does anyone remember when John Ashcroft compared his political defeat–by a dead man–to the crucifiction and his appointment as AG as a resurrection? The same thing is going on here. To quote a Therapy? song, these guys just want to be “Jesus with the suffering.”

  28. tim says:

Crap. That’s “Jesus without the suffering.”

  29. Mike says:

It’s a sad day in america when a woman is forced to die by lack of food and water:(

  30. Bones says:

Does anyone actually know somebody who would wish to stay hooked up to a machine to stay alive while being bed ridden years on end?

  31. Stacy says:

Tom Delay is a physcopath the right wing is doing all this for political gain to get Delay out pf trouble with Ethical violations the only way they know how is by using people or destoying everything in their path Democrats need to fight back don’t let these sleezy scum bags of the republican party win

  32. Gary says:

Everyone should read the article in the Los Angeles Times for Sunday 3/27/05 regarding Delay not only pulling the plug on his father, but then joining in a lawsuit over his father’s death. The ultimate hypocrite!

  33. Robert Olive says:

The LA Times article clearly demonstrates the vast difference between Two-faced Tom The Terrible’s death decision for his dad as opposed to his life decision for someone else’s wife: the number of machines it takes to keep the victim alive. Now, any person who can count to four or five should be able to understand that!

  34. Robert says:

    It’s a vast left-wng conspiracy

  35. Gene Neptune says:

Right wing conservatives in Texas are fighting to keep a monument engraved with the ten comandments on the State Capitol grounds. This is astoundingly ironic since one of the comandments is “Thou Shalt Not Kill,” and the State of Texas holds the U.S. record for executions. Maye they would compromise and sand blast out that comandment.

  36. Nicole Craig says:

We should support life whether we know what it is like for another person, or not, such as in the case with Ms. Shiavo. Truth is we do not know whether she wants to be hooked up to a machine, and fed through a feeding tube. Maybe being able to look into her parents eyes is enough to keep her happy and alive…maybe thats all she needs. People shouldn’t become as dispenable as our watches, clorox wipes, and other products of American consumerism. People matter even if we think we know what’s good for them. Your friendly conservative democrat…Nicole

  37. Debra Barbre says:

So, Tom DeLay is a Bible Scholar now? What part of “Be ye NOT of this world?” Did he not get. That was exactly what Christ was saying.

What a cheap damn trick to try and get gulible Christians to defend him on his ethics problems. What a total goon.

Someday the Church will see how its being used.

  38. Debra Barbre says:

Mike, it’s not a sad day in America when a woman dies for lack of food and water…it’s EVERYDAY. The way she is dying is a very natural and typical way for people to die. Matter of fact, it is MOST often the way people die.

I know. My mother died that way. We could have put in a feeding tube. Buf for what? The profits of the hospital she was in? So that we wouldn’t have to say goodbye? We certainly wouldn’t be doing it for her.

Her doctor told me at the time that death this way is uneventful and even blissful. The body responds by releasing endorphins and shutting its organs down. It is a gradual falling away…

And I watched my mother die that way. Certainly in more peace that Mrs. Shiavo is being allowed to die, thanks to you folks.

  39. Roger Choate says:

“…all these do-gooder organizations funded by George Soros”? I find it interesting that he acknowledges that the intent of these groups & Soros is to do ‘good’.
That also begs the question “why would DeLay be threatened by anyone attempting to do good?”

  40. Jon says:

though I vote republican for a variety of issues, I personally think Tom Delay is a bottom feeding scum sucker.

Of course most politicians are on both sides. The worst thing that can happen in this country is to tear down the seperation of Church and State, though the Constitution only says that no law shall be passed that establishes a religion.

So Tom get out of Politics, your not wanted and not well liked especially here in Texas.

  41. Geneva says:

The Philanthropy Roundtable, which funds the lawyers handling the Schindlers’ case, has on their website identifying the courts as the single “most disappointing” barrier between themselves and a total conservative takeover of government. The article also emphasizes the importance of swaying public opinion before attempting legislative change. So this gives a clue as to why they are so eager to fund a case that set a precedent for Executive Branch interference with the Judicial Branch. Not to say that Michael Schiavo may not have his own racket going; there’s plenty of evidence to suggest he does. I wish there had been better media coverage of both sides of this case.

  42. hgh spray says:

HGH is a very common product nowaday. HGH spray is very effective in anti-aging treatment.

  43. hgh says:

The administration of HGH Spray takes you only a few seconds and thus it spares you the pain of swallowing pills or taking HGH injections.

  44. hgh says:

HGH Spray can help to stimulate the rejuvenation and repair of your brain cells. HGH deficiency has been directly related to the impairment of both long-and short-term memory as well as hand-eye coordination.
