DeLay just released this statement:
Mrs. Schiavo’s death is a moral poverty and a legal tragedy. This loss happened because our legal system did not protect the people who need protection most, and that will change. The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today. Today we grieve, we pray, and we hope to God this fate never befalls another. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Schindlers and with Terri Schiavo’s friends in this time of deep sorrow.
Make no mistake about it: Tom DeLay, our Majority Leader, is now threatening judges, doctors and Terri Schiavo’s husband.
[...] that all the madness surrounding her would end. But Tom DeLay is still fanning the flames, threatening judges, doctors, and even Terri Schiavo’s husband. Lunatic. [...]

April 8th, 2005 at 11:32 pmI recall thinking at the time Judge Whittemore issued his opinion denying the Schindlers a TRO, that he was an extremely courageous man because not only was he going to face death threats, he faced a reasonable likelihood of being impeached by these nuts. I’m afraid that’s exactly what DeLay has in mind–it’ll give the Republicans a perfect forum for bloviating about “activist judges”.
March 31st, 2005 at 1:45 pmAfter they answer, will DeLay take a photo with ’some destruction in the background’?
March 31st, 2005 at 1:46 pmThose who kill their fathers will pay, too.
March 31st, 2005 at 1:57 pmI actually think this sounds like “God will judge him,” and not actually a threat, though some wingnut crazy will misread it as a call for revenge all the same. Of course this also means that God will equally judge Mr. DeLay for pulling the plug on his dad. Somehow I doubt the Almighty will understand the alleged distinction between a feeding tube and a ventilator.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:00 pmI think he’s just speaking in code to the crazy-christians out there explaining how they’ll get theirs when they die and God will punish them. I don’t know if he’s making specific threats. I’m not saying he’s not crazy, I’m just saying.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:02 pmIs Delay going to set an example by comitting sepuku in a press conference?
March 31st, 2005 at 2:02 pmWhat’s the over/under for how many days before DeLay ceases to be Majority Leader?
Or will he manage to survive his reckless mouth and regard for ethcial behavior?
March 31st, 2005 at 2:03 pmIsn’t that bolded sentence the same one Aragorn used in Return of the King?
March 31st, 2005 at 2:06 pmToo funny, I just blogged this myself. But I didn’t think about the doctors and Mr. Schiavo.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:08 pmDavid (Austin Tx) Please do not compare DeLay to Mishima!
March 31st, 2005 at 2:19 pmInteresting, but not suprising for this petty little turd, that DeLay does not offer condolences to Mr. Schiavo, just to the Schindlers.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:23 pmI think DeLay must mean the Founding Fathers, who set up these prohibitive checks and balances thingies.
Why did they hate America so?
March 31st, 2005 at 2:23 pm“What sluggards, what cowards have I brought up in my court, who care nothing for their allegiance to their lord. Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest.”
(quote history)
March 31st, 2005 at 2:24 pmVengence is mine sayeth DeLay.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:30 pmHey, everyone, this is all about tactics – when DeLay starts getting taken down for ethical violations, statements like these will position him as the “conscience” of the religious right, and thus a “victim” of an anti-religion witch hunt. Terr S. herself has very very little to do with this statement – which is par for the course the way this whole circus has been going
March 31st, 2005 at 2:32 pmToday america lost it’s innocence. My heart felt
March 31st, 2005 at 2:35 pmsympathy go out to the Shindlers. Scott Peterson, Gary Condit and Michael Shiavo should be ashame what they have put these families through. How can any person of humanity threat someone begging for their kid to live and they threat the family as if they didn’t exist. Know I don’t know what your motives are but the almighty do. You will have to answer one day. God have mercy on you soles. As for the Republican party you guys have no shame trying to use a family tragedy for political gain.
You missed the bit where he called the the husband and doctors “medical terrorists”. For the record, he also once said that anyone who donated money to Kerry’s Presidential campaign was actively supporting the Iraqi insurgency. It appears that DeLay uses a somewhat non-standard definition of “terrorist”, as in “Anyone who disagrees with me is a terrorist”.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:35 pmmichaelmcdaniel:
“God have mercy on you soles.”
Does somebody’s feets hurt?
March 31st, 2005 at 2:41 pmThe circus that outshone Mrs. Schiavo’s dying was hypocritical, sycophantic and morally bankrupt. That macabre spectacle happened because religio-politicians did not respect the document that is most sacred to our democracy, the Constitution; and that must change. The time will come when the hypocrites, charlatans and hucksters who were responsible will answer for their shameless behavior. God willing, it will be soon. Today, we mourn, we reflect, and we hope that no man or group will be allowed to carry out a similar betrayal of the public trust and of the democratic principles they are elected to uphold. Our thoughts (and from some, prayers) are with Terri Schiavo, her husband, and her friends and family. Terri, requiescat in pacem.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:48 pmit’ll give the Republicans a perfect forum for bloviating about “activist judges”
Ironic that the Schindlers et al. were desperately searching for an activist judge of their own.
March 31st, 2005 at 2:55 pmDeLay went off the deep end long ago
March 31st, 2005 at 3:05 pmi know little law, but is there any way of bagging this S.O.B. for his unfounded attackes on Michael Schiavo? Cause these threats are ridiculous.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:07 pmDamn the constitution, full speed ahead.
I hope that he is indicted, and quick!
March 31st, 2005 at 3:07 pm“The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today.”
Yeah Tom, when is justice going to come to you for using Terri’s life as political tool?
March 31st, 2005 at 3:13 pm“Today america lost it’s innocence” – michaelmcdaniel
What’s this, like the 2,131st time we’ve lost our “innocence” now?
The very basis of how we obtained the majority of our land pretty much shoots down any notion of “innocence”, not to mention the many not-so-innocent things we have been engaged in since then!
March 31st, 2005 at 3:16 pmOn the other hand, if Tom DeLay cuts off all Medicare funding for patients like Ms. Schiavo, he is altogether absolved of responsibility, because, you know, he’s with God.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:17 pmRegarding the with me or against me idea, it is interesting what George the III of England said about OUR founding fathers when they sent their protests to him regarding his rule in their country”I wish nothing but good. Therefore, every one who does not agree with me is a traitor and a scondrel.” OUR founding fathers paid no attention to his ranting. Condolences to the husband and family of Terri Shiavo
March 31st, 2005 at 3:17 pmHow many times can America lose its innocence? Civil War? Reconstruction? Jim Crow? Native American Genocide? Spanish-American War? WWI? WWII? Kennedy assassination? The Reagan Administration? Iran/Contra? Gulf War I? 9/11? Gulf War II? Abu Ghraib? I wish I had a dime for every jerk that said “America has lost its innocence” when something gets farked up. Here’s a clue, GOP tool: America never was innocent.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:17 pmI think it should be pretty clear he’s talking about God.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:18 pm“God have mercy on you soles.”
And us tuna, cod and mackerel, too. Don’t forget about us.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:22 pm“Scott Peterson, Gary Condit and Michael Shiavo should be ashame what they have put these families through.”
Hey, what am I, chopped liver? Oh that’s right, I didn’t kill any white people….
March 31st, 2005 at 3:27 pm…because if anyone knows about moral poverty, it’s Tom DeLay.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:32 pm“What’s this, like the 2,131st time we’ve lost our “innocenceâ€? now?”
America is naturally self-revirginating.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:40 pmOh jeebus on a steak knife, he doesn’t believe in god, he believes in power, and lust, and death.
Yeah, sure, he’s talking to his freaky followers, but he’sthreatening people, plain and simple. There’s no code. They don’t call him the Hammer because of his sophisticated bully tactics.
He’s a freakin Orc, (since somebody mentioned it) with no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:45 pmWoooah, self revirginating?
That could explain some things!
March 31st, 2005 at 3:46 pmI’m sure DeLay intentionally phrased his threat so as to be of two meanings. If criticised, he can say that he was claiming God would take vengeance.
I don’t think he was calling for widespread killing. I think he was probably going for intimidation, possibly a lot of threats. I imagine he wouldn’t care if there were some real violence and a few deaths, bu that was not his principle goal.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:46 pmSomehow, I can’t muster proper outrage against Tom DeLay, even when he publicly solicits the murder of people who don’t agree with him. The man is so mired in filth and madness that all I can feel, no matter what he does, is a deep sadness.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:53 pmDamn, she’s gone.
Wait a minute… is that little girl still down in that well? Maybe we can use that.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:54 pm>Ironic that the Schindlers et al. were desperately searching for an activist judge of their own.
I kept thinking of one definition of insanity — doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
March 31st, 2005 at 3:56 pm“Scott Peterson, Gary Condit and Michael Shiavo…”
huh?
March 31st, 2005 at 3:59 pmBe very careful what you say about God….She doesn’t like you to take her lightly.
March 31st, 2005 at 4:06 pmThis was no code or veiled threat. Delay is talking tough to get folks thinking he is one bad-ass dude to be reckoned with. Probably trying to intimidate Ronnie Earle and whatever judge presides over any cases if he is indicted. Delay is plain nuts.
March 31st, 2005 at 4:21 pmthat a scum like delay can remain in congress so long is very telling of our so called “democracy”, what a sham! while terri s body is going back to the elements it was made from, the essence of her being is going back to the source we all come from. soul lives forever, unlike the mortal body! judgement will come in the next lifetime, not is some spacey place in the ethers!
March 31st, 2005 at 4:24 pmDeLay threatens judges
March 31st, 2005 at 4:47 pmTom DeLay released the following statement upon the death of Terri Schiavo: Mrs. Schiavo’s death is a moral poverty and a legal tragedy. This loss happened because our legal system did not protect the people who need protection most, and
Ironic that the Schindlers et al. were desperately searching for an activist judge of their own. – and using “trial lawyers” to file “frivolous lawsuits” while clogging up our courts.
March 31st, 2005 at 5:06 pm“The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today” so says Tom “the ball-peen hammer” Delay.
But first he’s gonna grieve and pray.
Then he’s gonna throw the ball-peen down.
Please. The more that blowhard rants on such a losing issue for the RightWingLemmingdompubbiehood, the worse they look.
They are so ripe for the taking on such issues as morality and government intervention – and toss in Social Security for good measure – if only Congressional and Senate Dems had a collective spine to take advantage.

March 31st, 2005 at 5:13 pmSay Hello To Taliban America And Goodbye To Godless Judges, Courts And Law.
http://www.jabberwonk.com/flinker.cfm?cliid=13wooi
March 31st, 2005 at 5:20 pmDelay uses his position to imply that the judges (and others)should be delt with in some manner.
March 31st, 2005 at 5:25 pmThis comes at a time when many judges are having to take on extra security and many fear for their personal safety. Look at what has happened to some of the judges in the past few months.
“we hope to God this fate never befalls another.” Um, death. Do you really wanna hope that death never befalls another?? Oy, and you think the freeways are clogged now?.
March 31st, 2005 at 5:40 pmUmm.. i’m not a fan of Tom, but I wonder if he’s talking about burnin’ in hell rather than retribution while alive..
March 31st, 2005 at 5:52 pmheadline: “delay gives the men responsible temporary reprieve”
March 31st, 2005 at 5:54 pmYea. Make no mistake about it. This seems to be his, the “Code” to the organization (of nuts of course) to any, that they may go ahead and k-i l l as many key people as they can get away with. It’s kind of like the “Coded Messages” they look for in video tapes released by O-s a m a and others that activate cells. Did DeLay just activated some? Now, watch and see if anyone, person, judge, congressman, etc. associated with this, are elimated.
You think this sh*t only happens in “Those Other Countries?” GET REAL
March 31st, 2005 at 6:10 pmIt’s great to hear these morally strong words coming from Tom Delay. Maybe he’ll live up to his own words by condemming and arresting himself for pulling the plug… thereby killing his own father, then suing & collecting money from the company whose machine caused his father’s brain damage.
March 31st, 2005 at 6:12 pmDeLay is a cultist nutcase-he is borderline certifiable. why frist and a few other top dogs don’t come down on his ass and shut his piehole up is amazing-DeLay is ‘losing’ his power position and his lecturing is making it worse.
March 31st, 2005 at 6:27 pmthe repub goon squad: idiots ‘r us
Isn’t Delay a French name?
March 31st, 2005 at 6:44 pmI think Seppuku is a good idea for Mr. DeLay.
Let’s see how much guts he’s got.
Literally.
March 31st, 2005 at 7:00 pmAmerica has never seemed so un-American as it does now, thanks to madmen like DeLay.
March 31st, 2005 at 7:02 pmNow that Terri is gone, Scott is in jail, and Oj is innocent, can we now discuss the criminal in charge of this country, and Delay, the soon to be kicked out of congress chemical sniffer????
March 31st, 2005 at 7:08 pmi think it may be a good sign — that delay’s pants are on fire
he wants to keep the focus of attention far away from his self-created cesspool.
(anybody who listens to him at this point is an idiot)
March 31st, 2005 at 7:12 pmNow, all the self-righteous, moral purist Republicans who think they are above the law are screaming at Florida Governor Jeb Bush, calling him a coward for not doing their bidding in the Terri Schiavo tragedy.
It serves them all right. These people are devoid of human compassion or understanding of human dignity.
This entire Terri Schiavo affair has turned into one big abhorrent political circus where the radical Religious Right are trying to compel G. W. Bush, his brother Jeb, and the Republican-controlled US Congress to do their bidding, led by their hate-filled, tolerance-for-none spokesman, Randall Terry.
These screeching religionists who are demanding that our government must convert immediately to their theocracy should step back and ask the same questions of both the Schindlers and the Republican House Majority Whip, Tom DeLay, why, when their loved ones were on life support systems, did they quickly pull the plug, denying their loved ones the benefit of even a second medical opinion?
In the case of Terri Schiavo’s father, Robert Schindler, he pulled the plug on his own mother only one week after she was put on a ventilator and life support machines. Did he give her a second chance? Did he ask for other doctors or other medical experts to try and save her life? No.
Apparently, Mr. Schindler, who now wants everyone to feel his sorrow and pain over his daughter who was diagnosed by at least five separate doctors to be in a persistent vegetative state, had no such concern or sanctity of life for his own mother since he decided to end it with such haste.
Tom DeLay, who is using the Schiavo case to cover up for his own criminal acts of bribery, misuse of taxpayer money and racketeering, pulled the plug on his own father in December 1988.
DeLay has denounced Schiavo’s husband, as well as judges, for committing what he calls “an act of barbarism” in removing the tube. His father left no will, nor did he express his wishes for being kept alive on life support systems if he were ever placed in a hopeless medical condition.
“There was no point to even really talking about it,” Maxine DeLay, the congressman’s 81-year-old widowed mother, recalled in an interview last week. “There was no way [Charles] wanted to live like that. Tom knew â€â€Ã¢â‚¬â€ we all knew â€â€Ã¢â‚¬â€ his father wouldn’t have wanted to live that way.”
Yes, they all knew, when his father’s kidneys failed, the DeLay family decided against connecting him to a dialysis machine. “Extraordinary measures to prolong life were not initiated,” said his medical report, citing “agreement with the family’s wishes.” His bedside chart carried the instruction: “Do not resuscitate.”
How easily they came to that decision and how quickly, only two months, did they allow Tom DeLay’s father to live a day longer. Is it possible that this man on life support systems could have lived another 15 years in this condition? He never got that chance to find out.
Now we are hearing more violent language from these so-called Christians, so immersed in their own piety and sanctimoniousness, some of whom have issued death threats against Michael Schiavo and federal judges George Greer and Stanley Birch. In the meantime, the circus continues while the torch-bearers of Satan’s army parade before the cameras, inciting violence and using incendiary language, touting their dutiful obedience to a sick, deranged dogma which they feel puts them above the law.
America is viewing this display of Republican malevolence and raw vitriol on a scale never before imagined. We are witnessing the true Republican Party and what they have become.
We will not soon forget this, nor should voters forget for one minute between now and 2006 that if ever there was a reason to jettison this militant, hypocritical, violent, tolerance-for-none demonic Republican Party, that reason is now plain for all to see. The Republican Party has become the personification of Evil itself.
March 31st, 2005 at 7:14 pmPerhaps Delay is a little brain damaged himself due to his love of DDT.
March 31st, 2005 at 7:16 pmI would like to think this would end the craziness, but we know it won’t.
May Gi have mercy on your fish.
March 31st, 2005 at 7:26 pmWow, it’s easy to get depressed about how shi t ty the country is now, and how people seem almost willing to be led off cliffs at the direction of Repukelickins who “know best.” But this thread is hilarious. Particularly the fish jokes. Have mercy on our soles, indeed. I needed a good laugh…thanks everybody.
March 31st, 2005 at 8:29 pmTom Delay is not insane, he is not religous. He is cruel, mean and vengeful. Go get him, Ronnie Earle.
March 31st, 2005 at 9:57 pmCurrent medical technology has the ability to prolong “life” indefinitely. For those of us who have had to deal with an elderly relative in a similar situation (my father was in a PVS, but unable to swallow – he was NOT intubated), the decision to “pull a plug” is difficult. We have reached a point where we must decide how and when life will end; that all life will end is an absolute! Keeping Terri Chiavo in PVS is tantamount to torture. Michael Chiava was merciful! Her parents wanted to prolong her life, but to what purpose? Her life’s end was a natural progression, much delayed. She died quietly and with dignity, as she deserved. God rest her soul and let her Rest In Peace.
March 31st, 2005 at 10:01 pmTom DeLay helped end his own father’s life in 1988
March 31st, 2005 at 10:04 pmRepublicans, as usual, think that wgaty’s good for them isn’t good for others. So, now, the weeping DeLay, who with his gfamily voted to withhold medical aid to his father in 1988, goes off the deep end in condemning others for doing the same thing. Reminds me of Gingrich who was screwing arioubd on his sick wife and served her with divorce papers in the hospital, then had to be sued by her for bill payment, got involved in haunting Clinton. How Republican.
Welcome to American Jihad:

March 31st, 2005 at 10:11 pmWill someone please give Tom a blood test? I think his levels of rat poision are out of control.
March 31st, 2005 at 10:13 pmBut what is Bush’s excuse?
delay is so perverse ,so overwhelmed by his position that i think this right wing nutcase actually believes hisself when he makes threats to people taller than him.Sh-t that pissant could wack his own tallywacker even if he could find it!You know with him being short an’ with purdy lips no wonder he’s so popular in the circle jerk,I mean the repulsive congress. I swear I saw his face on a wanted poster at the post office, something about an unregistered pedophile?Check it out!
March 31st, 2005 at 11:34 pmFundamentalist Christians after declaring that the judge in the Schiavo appeal is going to hell apparantely believe they are GOD! To my Catholic faith I believe only the ALMIGHTY decides who goes to hell.
March 31st, 2005 at 11:41 pmI agree that Mr. Delay is quite despicable. I live in Ca, where we did not elect him, but my Republican representative (that I did not vote for) seems to be beholden to him for some reason. I saw the two of them on C-Span back in July when the whole Abu-Ghraib torture debacle was going on, and “my” congressman let Tom Delay say it was only a few bad apples and that we should get over it. Then he said basically the same thing.
I STAND HERE NOW AND SAY I WILL NEVER GET OVER TORTURE!!! NEVER!!!
March 31st, 2005 at 11:47 pmOkay…Back to the recent death, of our fellow human Terri. I understand the fact that people want to “err on the side of life”, I agree with that. I say no death penalty and no abortion (unless by way or rape or incest). I also believe that suicide is bad, and not the way. But…when a person has exhusted all of their mental faculties, shouldn’t they be allowed to leave this world?
I really don’t understand why Terri’s parents still clung to an empty body. I know that she wouldn’t want then to waste their time. I believe deeply that God would not either…..
April 1st, 2005 at 12:01 amTom DeLay was not talking about God when he said “The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today.” He wants some kind of punishment to come down on Mr. Shiavo and the judge. It was a threat. And an invitation to the wingnuts to do their duty.
April 1st, 2005 at 12:45 am“It is dangerous for a national candidate to say things that people might remember.” — Eugene Mccarthy
April 1st, 2005 at 1:13 amFinally Liberals got one right. Watching Tom Delay making a complete fool of himself, makes me thankful that Democrats avoided this whole thing. From the beginning I thought it was foolish for Republicans jump on this issue. But now it’s obvious that Republicans where just picking a fight for political gain. And now the vast public is aware of just how mean spirited most Republicans are. Watching the republicans and the right-wing media trash Michael and the judges were incredible. There is no way for anyone other than the doctors, judges, and the family to know everything about this situation and should stay out of this private family matter. Hopefully Michael and Terri’s family can recover from this mess and get on with their lives.
April 1st, 2005 at 1:34 amSomebody tell Mr. DeLay that people are taken off life support and feeding tubes EVERY DAY and nobody pays much notice to it but the families.
I’d like to know the reason for this guy’s sudden interest and concern over the entire Schiavo affair.
After all, DeLay’s own father was removed from life support 18 years ago, and nobody in his family seems to have objected, including Tom himself.
Did anybody answer for THAT decision, Tom?
April 1st, 2005 at 3:08 amTerri’s soul left her body 15 years ago. She came here with a difficult mission and has accomplished it, leaving society with many questions to answer which in time will be done so. No one was wrong. We hopefully learned lessons from Karen Quinlan who lived long after her equipment was discontinued and from Elian Gonzalez who is now happily living with his father in Cuba. Society will advance and eventually come to understand and answer the questions raised by Terri’ s life and death. She is happy and at peace.
April 1st, 2005 at 3:23 am[What’s the over/under for how many days before DeLay ceases to be Majority Leader?
Or will he manage to survive his reckless mouth and regard for ethcial behavior?
Comment by Bragan]
Dude: Bush is president. You think we still live in a rational world?
April 1st, 2005 at 4:04 am“…never befalls another”??????? Oh my god, what is wrong with this man? Really. Is it a chemical imbalance? A blow to the head? I’d really be curious to know just how he works out all of his contradictions in his own mind. Has he created this fantasy memory of his father dying peacefully in his sleep, rather than crashing a homemade luge and having the plug pulled by his wife & kids? It’s amazing.
April 1st, 2005 at 6:53 amInteresting that these “right-to-life” issues are selective in nature. Terri Schiavo (may that poor woman rest in peace) and her family were devout Catholics. Her life support was a feeding tube. I have to wonder if the “holier-than-thou” righties would be all over this one if Terri weren’t devoutly Catholic, white, fairly young, and middle class. And, what’s the difference, really, between a feeding tube, a respirator, and a kidney dialysis machine? Aren’t ALL of these “life support” systems? Am I missing something here??
April 1st, 2005 at 7:00 amHow soon will Hannity and Co take their traveling side show to the Vatican?
April 1st, 2005 at 7:01 amFrankly, I find it a relief that she finally died. I’m sick and tired of the wrong-wing (I won’t call them right-wing anymore, because they’re not right) crow about the brutality of starving her to death. The only reason she couldn’t be given a quick injection and a quick death was because of wrong-wing legislation and ideology! It’s nutjobs like DeLiar who caused all of this to begin with – him and every anti-choice, holier than thou self-proclaimed prophet in the wrong-wing camp.
For having this private family affair turned into a sideshow attraction, I blame the neighbors up the street who posted the “Bush/Cheney” posters in their yard, I blame the guy I’m driving behind on my way to work who proudly displays the “W” sign in his back window. The hypocrites on Capital Hill and in the capitals of every state are only there because a whole bunch of like-minded hypocrites voted for them.
I had little respect for the average, everyday “republicans” that I work with, live around and generally have to see out and about every day. I have even less now, and believe me, there wasn’t much left to begin with.
I wonder if that other 51% feels safer now? Evidently not, since they’re running in droves to the local lawyer’s offices like everyone else to have living wills drawn up.
DeLiar – he needs to go to jail, if only for the Schiavo fiasco.
April 1st, 2005 at 7:25 amI meant to way the hypocrites in the capitals of “nearly” every state. Sorry if I offended any residents of states with non-wrong-wing governors.
April 1st, 2005 at 7:28 amterri was an highly effective rallying point for the wackos on the right. Notice they only love those who have no consciousness. If Terri was a talking MS sufferer on the edge of life and she was on Medicaid….no problem, the right wing wackos would’ve pulled her lifesupport. They only love the mentally dead, the unconscious early term fetus. When real pain and misery stairs them in the face…like the homeless, the poor…. they turn their backs on them. Bush is conspiring to turn off the social security tape to the those unemployables and force them on the mercy of Christian churches….which won’t support the millions of disabled who now rely on Social Security for life support.
April 1st, 2005 at 7:37 amsorry for misspellings… but I’ll add: has anyone noticed that Terri’s parents and siblings seem to be flying everywhere, no expenses to worry about, that they are in fact being well funded for this charade. We know that Terri’s husband has been dragged through the mud, to the point I wa actually believing the so-called Christians who accused him of beating Terri into a vegatative state… and the truth comes out… that he loyally stood by her mindless state of life for many years, holding and careing for her while his in-laws demanded the medical settlement due to doctors not seeing that Terri’s extreme dieting took a toll on her chemical balance. No one was able to show that Terri’s husband was criminally implicated and yet her parents and Christian fundementalists came up with nasty attacks out of thin air.
April 1st, 2005 at 7:45 amI bet that Terri’s parents are well funded in the millions now….coming from Christians blinded by their own ideology…who instead need to focus on real misery that can be solved with love, not the hate that I see eminating from them now.
While I agree with many of the things your organization espouses, I feel you have fallen into the snare that the christian right, led by bush and his gang have laid out, (I like to think of them as bushs’ bushies). That snares entanglement loop being the udder misinformation, lies and deceitful tactics posed to the gullible American Public.
April 1st, 2005 at 8:35 amThese neo-con religious nutjobs make me wonder what America would be like today if the pretzel had stayed lodged. From the protesters who allowed their children to be handcuffed and arrested to the “Not dead yet” disabled protesters whose level of disabilities where far removed from Terri’s to our hypocritical government leadership. This chapter is over, I can only guess as to whats next. Rest in peace Terri you deserve it.
April 1st, 2005 at 8:45 amThe Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves as this administration is turning the citizens of this republic away from a democratic government. We voted twice & lost due to “behind the ballot box” republican shenanigans. People will only take so much & then turn to man’s purest emotion….revenge.
April 1st, 2005 at 9:01 amDoes “W” realize that he & his cronies are planting the seeds of anarchy in the very ground fertilized by their greed & lust for power?
It’s interesting that soooooo many people are talking about the terrible thing that Michael did, and we must protect our most vulnerable citizens yada yada yada. Well, mr. delay, I work with retarded adults, and much of the legislation that YOU have pushed for our snarky president directly impacts on my people – and not for their good. They are losing their access to medical care, to independence and to their neighborhoods, usually because he is so intent on cutting the taxes that provide for medicaid/medicare, housing and public transportation. Those 25 bucks a month that I no longer pay in taxes (along with the many other taxpayers) is impacting on my people’s quality of life. When he says “….they will have to answer for this…” I think he should include himself – when he meets his Maker, he’ll have an awfully lot of explaining to do! It’s a good thing Christ is his advocate up there and not me, I don’t think I’d be a very good one for him and his ilk!
April 1st, 2005 at 9:22 amTake a few murderers on death row, render them comatose, intubate them and see how long it will take the Supreme Court to rule this cruel and unusual punishment!
Now, take a woman who has never hurt a fly in her life – been intubated for fifteen years – and have the religious right wing et all including the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Tom Delayed condemn her to more of the same. Sounds and looks like hell on earth to me, not to mention cruel and unusual punishment.
But what do I know. I had a brother who died at eleven and a sister who died at thirty three, both suffered constantly, from day one, in agony of agonies, seizures, in the most appalling circumstances, etc., … let them “live” till their last dyeing breath is what I say.
April 1st, 2005 at 9:46 amThe question is, will the American people be willing to take to the streets and engage in civil disobedience over the constitutional coup d’etat being threatened by this legislative leader and his friends in the executive?
April 1st, 2005 at 9:53 amI think that it is funny that the republicans are so adamant about the “cleansing” of activist judges. But I recall that W was APPOINTED president by this so called Liberal Supreme Court. These guys are just trying to divide and conquer the american public regardless of the consequences.
April 1st, 2005 at 10:24 amAn independent court system is often one of the first things that is supressed or attacked when fascists or ultra right wingers want to impose their “values” on others. Look at past and present fascist/dictatorial regimes throughout the world. . I predict intensified attacks by the right wing on our court system. Our judges are already under enormous pressure and fear because of individual nutcases shooting them, now we have officials like Delay throwing out threats. Whether it is a threat or not it will be interpreted by other nutcases as a “go-get-um, boys”.
April 1st, 2005 at 10:46 amPage One: Woman with liquified brain dies after decade in vegetative state
April 1st, 2005 at 11:10 amPage 6D: Marine, father of 5, loses legs in unarmored Humvee, later dies.
Maybe Schiavo, The Pope, and Falwell can carpool?
April 1st, 2005 at 11:12 amI thought when we die were suppost to be going to a better place? Seems to me baby Bush,Delay and the rest of these nut case holy rollers forgot something, it was the medinceman that kept Teri alive, not God not Mother nature.
April 1st, 2005 at 11:18 amMaybe Schiavo, The Pope, and Falwell can carpool?
April 1st, 2005 at 11:59 am———
OK, that one got me to bust out laughing…..
This whole mess is literaly in my back yard in St. Pete. The circus that Terri’s family made out of her death is appauling.
I see the reps being blown apart by this – so much for their “sanctity of marriage” line they have been towing. The majority of them blew that bs out of the water with the bill they passed- Mike did what his wife wanted. The RWing has NO BUSINESS in our hospital rooms – ever.
Thank God Terri is finally at peace.
So the Reverend Jesse Jackson is proposing a new law which would preempt the disconnection of a feeding tube unless the patient had pre-signed written consent. Then I take it a feeding tube should not be inserted unless the patient had previously indicated written consent.
Reverend Jackson, why don’t you and any State get out of our deathbeds! You should be preaching about the hereafter, rather than be condemning a woman who has been in a persistent vegetative state for fifteen years to more of the same. Shame on you!
April 1st, 2005 at 12:39 pmITS A SORRY DAY FOR OUR COUNTRY WHEN GOVERMENT GETS INTO PRIVATE FAIMLY AFFAIRS.
April 1st, 2005 at 2:19 pmIf Bush and DeLay is the best Texas can do for this country I think Texas should suceede from the union.
April 1st, 2005 at 3:28 pmCommon sense dictates that we move forward without “DeLay” to reinvigorate the Democratic party and to reinstall common sense in our political institutions, especially the Congress.
KGL
April 1st, 2005 at 5:19 pmRemember: Bush is NOT FROM TEXAS!
He’s from Connecticut, and the family compound is in Maine. The only reason he’s here is because of his daddy. He’s a fake, and he’s the worst thing to happen to us- next to tom delay.
I have the misfortune of living in his district (actually he gerrymandered it, as we had Chris Bell- who is a great person and honest politician), but I did my part for the Republic (we aren’t nor have we ever been a Democracy) and voted against that arrogant a–. Unfortunately, this district is loaded wth White Conservative Christians most are not weatlhy, but the when threatened with Guns, God, and Gays…
From what I’ve seen here, even those die hard Republican supporters are having second and third thoughts as to what they have voted for, and I would not be suprised if he loses a lot of supporters.
Or then maybe we could just recall him…
April 1st, 2005 at 6:00 pmTom delay sounds deranged. I take his words as some kind of political threat but like someone said earlier his crazed follwers will no doubt take it as a call to pick up arms. This little bug bastard really thinks his s*hit don’t stink.
April 1st, 2005 at 11:21 pmI will sincerley enjoy watching him fall. Because he is going down.
it’s really hard to reconcile all these people who have been espousing (pun intended) the sanctity of marriage as they yawp about the bond betweenparent and child. The Schiavos’ marriage made them leagally and relgiously each other’s next-of-kin.
April 2nd, 2005 at 8:51 amFellow readers:
The fact that Texas voters elect scum like DeLay most certainly paints all Texans as sub morons, and rightfully so.
The former joke was “Why do most Texans have brown eyes? (Answer: Most Texans are full of shit higher than their hairlines.)
All joking aside, the militant and deliberate stupidity of Texans who support DeLay are loathed and reviled in states who can at least claim >some< triple-digit I.Q. citizens.
There are almost no triple digit I.Q. people in Texas.
And bush takes great pride in the fact that he failed to meet the lower than low standards of Texas state universities, but was granted a degree because his nominal daddy demanded that his moronic son should be awarded a degree at his daddy’s alma mater.
Dubious bush can’t read, can’t spell, can’t think.
But his daddy used Nazi money to blackmail Yale into awarding his wayward and moronic son a degree.
Yale will soon enough be exposed as the diploma mill that it became 4 decades ago.
Suffice it to say that the entire world now knows that a Yale degree is worth at most it’s lowest ass-wiping qualities.
How I long for the days of academic integrity…
Very Liberal Patriot
April 2nd, 2005 at 8:54 amMost of these threats of Delay’s, if religiously motivated, are nothing but BLASPHEMY. Read a few biblical passages about what GOD thinks of that.
April 2nd, 2005 at 9:19 amWe are the majority, we will educate the youth of our nation, rise up as a popular uprising, rescind the statutes of limitations, and use the conspiracy laws as well as laws we create in the future to rip these criminal conservatives as well as any non-conservative power abusers from their beds at night to rot in a jail cell, just like they have torn millions of Americans from their families to serve prison time for non-violent crimes like having a doobie in your pocket. The DEA and most government agencies as well as the lawyers, corporations, lobbyists and government pawns that conspire with them are guilty and in order for justice to be served and for America to redeem itself on this planet we must deal with these people through a popular uprising where the majority are led by charismatic and radical leaders who speak these truths.
April 2nd, 2005 at 11:10 am” A man who steals a fishing hook is a thief. A man who steals a country is a king.”
“…They are afraid of the Old for their memory.
They are afraid of the Young for their innocence.
They are afraid of the Graves of their victims in faraway places.
They are afraid of History. They are afraid of Freedom.
They are afraid of Truth. They are afraid of Democracy.
So why the hell are we afraid of them? … For they are Afraid of Us.
Time has come for you to “Step Down,” Tom Delay…maybe you will be framed like ex-New Jersey governor James McGreevy for having sex with a male Mossad agent?…from Chapaquitic to Jersey…and now 911…straight from the Republican CIA/Mossad scandal handbook!
Smoke is getting too thick in DC…Tom.
…And the boulder is cascading down the hill heading straight for the REPUBLICAN GLASS CHURCH.
LIES; LIES and more LIES=Republican truth…Right, Cowboy? Do you use spurs, Tom?
Ms. Ellen Mariani has it dead on in her RICO law suit against George W. Bush, et al:

Vaya con Dios!
April 2nd, 2005 at 4:53 pmThere are so many examples of politicians wasting time on non issues and events, that I think if there is a real crises, we’re fucked.
April 2nd, 2005 at 7:08 pmDaLay is one of the biggest HYPOCRITES, after removing life support from his own father.
April 3rd, 2005 at 12:49 pmWhat concerns me is DeLay’s comment about the “arrogance of the courts in defying Congress and the President”. Arrogance? Defiance? How about Congress’ and Bush’s arrogance and defiance of the laws of the state of Florida? Or their arrogance and defiance of the opinions of the American people?
Anyone else feel like we’re starting to live in a theocracy? With the hypocrites as a standard option? Scary. It’s people like this that made me switch from Republican to Democrat.
April 4th, 2005 at 2:19 pmPeople don’t be surprised of delay beats this rap also. so many of us talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. we whine and we snivel about the people who stomp upon our civil rights, our human dignities but when it comes time to vote, and to be activists we democrats time and time again stand back and think that everyone else will take care of it. It is high time that everyone gets involved! It is high time that every single one of us write our congressmen and women, that we write our editors, that we become activists in the true meaning of the word, and stay that way. This is a call to action. If we did this, our party could never be beaten, and should never be beaten for everyone would see the true intellect, humanity, and compassion for what it truly is.
April 6th, 2005 at 12:39 pmDelay has conned Native Americans out of millions of dollars and then redistributed that money back to the Natives through campaigning Republicans ensurring their victory in large reservation districts. He is a serpent and a charmer. Bottom line is he is an evil man. How many times are people going to fall for this slithery excuse for a human being? How many times are they going to fall for someone like “W” to run our country? To me it is amazing. However, since time began people have fallen for potions and con-artists. Instead of doing the homework and looking towards the future, seeing the signs, and knowing for themselves. Remember this name. Rick Renzi is another one that is nothing but a snake charmer. He is one of Delays cohorts and he is coming right along.
April 6th, 2005 at 1:05 pmThese “threats” of Delays I noticed one person saying “oh, I don’t believe that he meant anything literally.” Come on, clear the stardust from your eyes. That was an invitation to anyone, a call to arms if you will, a for lack of anything else it was a proverbial “hit” placed on these peoples heads. The American public are more or less blind to these issues, as thinking and informed individuals it is our duty to bring these issues to light. Inform the uninformed.
Didn’t Terry Sciavo go into a coma because of bulemia – an eating disorder? So she, in its essence, starved herself to death… So, I think all this nonsense about feeding tubes needs to take that into consideration.
The wound was self-inflicted.
April 7th, 2005 at 11:48 amThe comment by Paul Caruso was nonsensical. Even if self-inflicted which wasn’t and even if she had an eating disorder it wouldn’t be considered a self inflicted “wound” as he mistakenly called “it”. The outcome would be only decided by her last wishes of her requests made by discussing a DNR or Do Not Recussitate with her husband. Period. An eating disorder has not one thing to do with a dying request it is a psychological disorder. Get real here.
April 7th, 2005 at 12:01 pmRepublicans Ratchet up the Anti-Judge Rhetoric
Brought up at AMERICAblog.com
From the AP
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans are moving to put some muscle behind their pitch to eliminate judicial filibusters after watching liberals push out TV ads against them in anticipation of a showdown…
April 15th, 2005 at 5:35 pmDon’t jump to the conclusion that all Christians support Congress’ unconstitutional meddling in the Schiavo case and the desire of DeLay and other Republican leaders in Congress to dictate the decisions of our Federal courts. Polls show that most citizens, including Christians, don’t support DeLay and his cronies. Many folks like me who used to call themselves “Republican” are now wondering what that party now stands for. I no longer know.

Should you try Online Dating?
December 20th, 2005 at 12:54 pmIn a study reported on CBS News, 15% of Americans with internet access
have visited an internet dating site.
27% of them were 18-29 years old. Obviously online
dating service is a popular pastime. In another study reported by BBC News,
online dating was seen as a way for women to feel empowered in relationships.
The conventional inhibitions that they had in face-to-face relationships were
replaced by a more upfront and in-control attitude when given the anonymity
of the internet. Could this improve their chances at finding a perfect relationship?
