Cheney Calls DeLay’s Conduct Inappropriate

From today’s New York Post:

Cheney said he backed efforts to help save Terri Schiavo’s life, but strongly disagreed with House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who wants retribution against judges who blocked restoration of her feeding tube.

“I don’t think that’s appropriate . . . There’s a reason why judges get lifetime appointments.”

Rule of Thumb: If Cheney says you’ve gone over the line, you’ve gone way over the line. (Hat Tip: Armando)

uh-oh, if Cheney is throwing delay under the bus, you know he’s in trouble.

  3. Musk says:

i called the fbi, and the person i talked to told me that if i [average joe] had said what delay said about retribution, that i would mostly certainly be in custody. the guy i talked to was very agreeable, and told me that there was an undeniable double standard which he didn’t agree with. i recommend that everyone call the fbi and ask why delay hasn’t been arrested

  4. Ron Brynaert says:

maybe they’re too busy going after lawyers who are either innocent or falsely accused of aiding terrorism

  5. Bee says:

I can’t believe that Cheney chastised one of their own. This is a red-letter day in the history of BushCo, ladies and gentlemen. Mark this moment, as it will eventually be just as fulfilling as when the wrong-wingers in Congress finally told Ken Starr to back off of Clinton and the stupid dress, because it was starting to make them all look bad (like they needed any help there, anyway).

  6. Zeppo Marx says:

You mean he told Delay to go Cheney himself.? Isn’t that calling the kettle black?

  7. Rob says:

Maybe Delay got too hot for the repugs, for Cheney to say something like that you know he had to have the OK from the man running tha white house, no not Bush but Rove.

  8. Brian says:

More like the Repigs decided to moderate the public face and try to distance themselves from the Christofascist wing. They’ll try to ride this out, having given the fundies plenty of red meat already.

Plus, they are going to ride this to slam the judiciary as much and as hard as possible.

  9. Jon says:

When Cheney says to Delay, “go f**k yourself” and Bush calls Delay “a major league a**hole”, then we’ll know The Hammer is in trouble.

  11. Marq says:

Maybe Cheney wants the judges for himself?

  12. KEVIN SCHMIDT says:

But, who will call dick Cheneyers conduct inappropriate?
    OK, I will!
Hey, dick Cheneyer, your conduct is inappropriate! Go cheney yourself!!!

  13. Thomas says:

I have wanted DeLay to have to resign in scandal for a long time. But now I am a little conflicted – I like reading my morning newspaper which now usually includes an article about DeLay being weird and how he is bringing the Republicans down.

  14. Scott says:

Regarding “There’s a reason why judges get lifetime appointmentsâ€? – He could not have made a better point as to why congress shouldn’t automatically confirm every good ol’ boy the War Profiteer in Chief tries to appoint. It would be nice if the current administration would put the well-being of the country ahead of greed, by actually trying to appoint people with more qualifications than just agreeeing to blindly support the party line. Yeah, I know. I’m not going to hold my breath on that ever happening.

  15. jusfishn says:

I dont like Cheney even a little, but its good to hear him tell Delay to control himself. I consider that a SPIKE not a NAIL.
    NAIL THE HAMMER

  16. Chuck M says:

This is a calculated affect by Cheney under suggestion by Karl Rove. Bush is travelling the states pushing his Social Security, err, ‘no-plan’, so Cheney had to step in a make it appear as if the Executive Branch is ‘above it all’. Denouncing Delay’s comments is akin to Cheney saying he doesn’t like burnt toast … it’s meaningless in that it does nothing to actually force Congress to cut off the rotting limb, but it will appease ‘the base’ into thinking the WH is still in control. Which, of course, it isn’t when it comes to Delay … as stated in other comments, Delay is attempting to save his on ass, the other repubs be damned.

Delay is still in tactic mode, moving forward with his feigned ’shock and disappointment’ of how the judiciary disallowed Mrs. Schiavo her right to a fair review … he believes if he ignores the condemnation coming at him from all sides, that it’ll wither away … in effect, he’s attempting to remove the feeding tube from the posse … yuk yuk.

  17. Al says:

Cheney’s mother certainly had it right when she named him “Dick”

  18. falcon says:

“…Delay’s money extorsion from small businesses is legendary and his ‘cash and carry government’ is blatant thievery.”

Delay, like James Traficant, Jr. is out because he’s got too big of a mouth and Godfather Cheney wants to distance his Illuminati administration from any further Judge assassinations…WOW!

“…The boulder is cascading down the hill headed straight for the Republican Glass Church…”

See ya, Tom…by the way, Tom, can you sing like a canary?

What about the $23 billion purchase of securities in the Bahamas in JANUARY ‘05?

    Fasten your seat belts!

  19. boilerman10 says:

I doubt if anything is going to come of any of this charade. Cheney is going through the motions, and DeLay is just another attention diverter for the the administration. Folks, Delay is essential for the administration’s control of the legislature. It isn’t “Republican” control, it’s “ADMINISTRATION” control, we forget this. DeLay is Rove’s point man in the House, pure and simple. Delay can have any fun he wants, do anything he wants, so long as he toes the message line and doesn’t bring trouble to numbnuts Dubya, and his gang of fantascists. Nothing will come of this. All eyes are on the Texas prosecutors, I don’t think Rove can control them they have too much light on them. this is where the action will come from; neither the Congress, nor the whoretime media and it’s phony baloney hand wringing over DeLay’s blatent corruption, and foolish outbursts have the courqage, nor desire to face Rove’s gang of thugs in a political gutter knifefight. It’s that simple

  20. Tom says:

All I have to say is:

    FUCK EM ALL !

  21. sigmund says:

Cheyney is not pissed at Delays’ particular outbursts, but in his timing. He’s jumped the gun on future plans.

  22. Publius says:

There’s something about Cheney that most of us don’t know– Cheney is actually a moderate. He is in any case no theocratic Taliban-wannabe like DeLay. Then again, remeber that the truly evil Nixon was far, far to the left of (and more ethical than) Shrub, so that’s what we’ve come to. Gack.

I recommend “Sleepwalking Through History”, which muckrakes through the Reagan years. Cheney comes off as an outsider that doesn’t really *buy* the whole “Reagan Revolution”– he and Rummy were Nixon/Ford people after all. Lots of quotes from him, expressing doubts about Ronnie’s radical right-wing policies and zinging Bonzo’s incompetent “management style”.

Of course, Dark Lord Cheney still eats babies, etc. So did Kissinger– who was also a moderate, and, come to think of it, Cheney reminds me a lot of Kissinger in the personality department too. But I don’t find it in any way surprising to see The Dick recoiling in horror at DeLay’s sleaze and wild-eyed fanaticism.

  23. molly says:

It’s only the Delay lack of fineness that is bothering our furher..remember he was brought up thinking he is the ruling class. Delay’s plebian background is the only thing disturbing herr furher. Remember on inaguration day, as the troops and bands marched by, they could not look at herr furher?

  24. antares says:

Nah, the logic here is clear…

The GOP sees the writting on the wall, and DeLay is going to take the heat for just about any corruption you can name. The kebabs are already on the fire for this sacrificial lamb. Then, when he’s cashiered from the house they can all say, “Look at us, we’re all sqeeky clean now!” and then procede to clean out American tax payers until another one gets too greedy or too careless…

  25. Political Junkie says:

Cheney telling DeLay to go “Cheney” himself.

    Pot, meet kettle.

  26. devin says:

cheney just signaled to the Repubs to dump tommy boy-fast

  27. Ellen says:

Cheney is guarantying folks they will get a certain return on their privatized social security accounts. If my stock broker said that to me, he’d lose his license. While at least Cheney will say something on something as egregious as DeLay’s comment, who is going to say something about his own comments.

  28. GOPHater says:

Gosh, seeing as how Cheney is so stupid, maybe Tom’s not all that bad after all. LOL.

  29. Sandra Wetmore says:

I agreed with everything said. However, I think we should emphasize that even though DeLay supported the Schindler family – and wanted judges killed – that the Schindler’s said that even if Terri had left a will stating she did want to be kept alive under these circumstances – they wouldn’t have honored her wishes. They are very conservative Catholics. However, do they believe in the death penalty. It’s a sick world.

  30. Ellyn O'Toole says:

Everything the Bushies do is so scripted that I’m inclined to take Cheyney’s comment with a grain of salt. I agree with the writer who wants to see Delay out there making an ass of himself. So do I. Keep it up Dick(head).
