Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) was on the floor of the Senate last night trying to limit the fallout from his incendiary remarks about judges. But he didn’t apologize or repudiate what he said. Instead, he just lashed out at his critics. Cornyn began:
As a former judge myself for 13 years, who has a number of close personal friends who still serve on the bench today, I am outraged by recent acts of courthouse violence. I certainly hope that no one will construe my remarks on Monday otherwise. Considered in context, I don’t think a reasonable listener or reader could.
In other words, Cornyn stands by everything he said. The real problem is, of course, with the people who criticized him. Here’s Cornyn:
I regret it that my remarks have been taken out of context to create a wrong impression about my position, and possibly be construed to contribute to the problem rather than to a solution.
Cornyn doesn’t regret what he said. He only regrets that people took what he said “out of context.”
Watch the video, read the transcript and judge for yourself. Cornyn is just digging his hole deeper.
Nail DeLay!!!!!!!!!! (4.00 / 4)
He’s on the run. But let’s really nail him. Then start lobbying your Rep. Start by demanding DeLay resigns. The easy way to do this is:
http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/action.cfm?itemid=18721
But even better than this, contact your Reps office directly by looking him or her up on:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/
Then focus on the ethics committee. Let them know you are sick of DeLay’s scandals and you want him out:
Here are the 10 ethics committee members you need to call:
Chairman Doc Hastings (R-WA): 202-225-5816
Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL): 202-225-3515
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX): 202-225-4236
Rep. Melissa Hart (R-PA): 202-225-2565
Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK): 202-225-6165
Rep. Alan B. Mollohan (D-WV): 202-225-4172 (Ranking Minority Member)
Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH): 202-225-7032
Rep. Gene Green (D-TX): 202-225-1688
Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA): 202-225-1766
Rep. Michael F. Doyle (D-PA): 202-225-2135
Or go here for more info on the ethics committee:

MOST IMPORTANTLY, hit the issue in your local media. Get writing letters and calling talk shows demanding that DeLay resign:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/
And let’s give the advertising strategy some help. There are three groups putting out ads in targeted markets calling for DeLay’s resignation:
Progressive Majority: For the first $20,000 contributed, the Campaign for America’s Future will match every dollar 4-to-1 to expose DeLay’s corruption for even more people. With this match, every $10 you contribute will put this ad in front of 160 households for a full week! Please contribute today.
https:/secure.ctsg.com/ourfuture/donate_delay_tv.asp
Public Campaign Action Fund: A more targeted ad campaign targeting Republican districts where the Rep has shown signs of turning on DeLay– Reps. Rob Simmons (CT), Tom Reynolds (NY), and Doc Hastings (WA)– join our call for DeLay to resign. They also need money to expand their efforts:
https:/secure.ga3.org/03/without_delay
Finally, don’t forget in your letters to the editor to mention that other Republican leaders are corrupt as well. Some examples:
First made money investing in an abortion clinic: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=30124
Ohio Congressman Mike Oxley, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, offered to drop a much-needed probe of the mutual insurance industry if its Washington-based trade group, the Investment Company Institute, agreed to hire a Republican to oversee its lobbying efforts: http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20031208/SROXLEY/112070097&SearchID=732034 83665556

And Roy Blount, the House Majority Whip, was romantically involved with a lobbyist for a Fortune 500 company (this itself is a conflict, and a violation of House ethics rules) and then attempted to please her and her employers by grafting legislation favorable to the company onto the Homeland Security Bill.
We can play a real role in nailing these corrupt bastards by writing lots and lots of letters. It is working for DeLay! One of my readers from Texas sent me this:
This letter to the editor this morning was too good to let pass.
“As an American, a Republican, a Texan and a constitutional conservative, I am embarassed, saddened and frightened by Tom DeLay. His behavior and pronouncements are creating negative perceptions of the citizens of this state and nation and our system of government. He is doing more damage to the Republican Party than any Democrat could do.”
This from a Texas Republican.

April 6th, 2005 at 11:17 amOne of the Ethics Committee members, Lamar Smith, is taking Delays place at the “Confronting the Judicial War on Faith” conference in Washington this weekend. How can he be expected to review the ethics charges neutrally when he is so tied to DeLay?
April 6th, 2005 at 11:28 amI heard the remarks, and there was no exculpatory context whatever.
Cornyn spoke his mind, and was fairly criticized for his remarks. He should be censured by the Senate at the least, but the Republican majority prizes party cohesion above ethics or integrity.
April 7th, 2005 at 2:13 amCornyn stating that he UNDERSTANDS how certain individuals can get to the point where one resort to violence and agreeing with that particular violent act, are two seperate issues.
A liscensed psychologist may very well know the processes of what takes place in a person’s mind that carries out violence, but would totally disagree with the violent acts.
I do not take the stand of being of the Democratic party nor the Republican party. There is certainly enough Abuse of Power in all branches and levels of American guvmint to go around. Try going to court sometime when ya have no money for an attorney and see how a judge or any given attornet will walk all over your rights and then, take ya to the cleaners.
What I would like to see come out of this spotlight is that a more competant, unprejudicial and equality driven system will emerge. Judges do let their emotions get into their court opinions and/or verdicts……………and that is wrong.
One should not choose to pick up a gun, but what is it that is taking placein courtrooms accross the country that instigates such this type of responses from courtroom litigants. Obviously, they felt that the SYSTEM has been abusive, they were wronged and justice for them did not prevail.
Understanding this……..and not agreeing with violent behavior that takes place upon the system and judges, are 2 entirely different things. For in order for something…….anything to be fixed, it first must be understood.

April 7th, 2005 at 1:42 pmAir America has coined a term for people like Frist, Cornyn, DeLay and nutcases like Randall Terry–the “Christo Fascist Zombie Brigade.” The name fits–they’re not acting like Christians, and it’s THEIR will, not God’s, that they want the rest of us to follow.
Northern Ireland has a group like that, the original Christo Fascist Zombie Brigade–the Loyalists.
Remember the siege at Holy Cross Primary School? Oh, that’s right–silly me. Nobody in the U.S. knows about that. Our media only covers alleged IRA activity, not ongoing loyalist violence against Catholics in Northern Ireland. Anyway, in late summer/fall 2001, loyalist goons spit at the elementary school girls walking to their school, threw urine-filled balloons at them; they threw bottles and bricks at the girls, and threatented to bomb the school (see Front Line Defenders for more information.)
What causes people to act like that? Incendiary rhetoric from politicians, of course, fanning the flames of hatred. In Ireland, such rhetoric from loyalists has lead to the murder of human rights lawyers Rosemary Nelson and Pat Finucane. What’s next for our country if the right-wing “zombie brigade” is not stopped in its tracks?
My article at Daily Kos has the latest from Northern Ireland–anti-Pope graffiti and “party tunes” played while Catholics mourn the Pope’s passing. Lovely people, those loyalists. Let’s hope we can stop our “zombie brigade” before things get any worse.
April 7th, 2005 at 10:10 pmCornyn’s comments as well as DeLay’s not so subtle threats to Judges in America can just be thrown on the pile of transgressions you get when thugs are elected to run our show. They have discussed me for years, and I would love to see a Judge bring them up on verbal assault charges because that’s how you stand up to bullys like these guys. The last comment is correct and polititions talk this way to excite the “zombie brigade” or as I like to call them, “the moronic majority”, which is the only vote these thugs are really after. The story is another good example of why people should vote Anti-Republican. That’s my party of choice since realizing that Reagan was a criminal and not the greatest President ever.
