Press Conference: Price Gauging

Press Conference: Price Gauging

Rhetoric:

There will be no price gauging at gas pumps in America. — President Bush, 4/28/05

Reality:

Exxon Mobil Co. reported a 45% surge in net income, while Royal Dutch/Shell Group’s earnings rose 40%, as persistently high oil prices fed the industrywide profit bonanza.

You should see the dividend they pay.

  2. Ammonite Says:

You meant to write "price gouging."

  3. Terry Says:

No price gauging at the pump? Cool! Does that mean gas is free, or just that we can name our own price?

  4. Debora May Says:

I live in Hillsboro New Jersey and I have noticed two gas stations in the area that are cashing in on the Katrina devastion at their gas pumps. The first gas station is the Getty located on the corner of Rt 206 and New Amwell Rd in Hillsboro - the price for premium is $3.49. The second gas station is also located on Rt 206 on the Hillsboro/Somerville border - the price for premium is $3.39.

PLEASE TELL ME WHO CAN I REPORT THIS TO!!
    THANK YOU!

  6. sherry Says:

what way do americans need to go about complaining about rising gas prices? and will it help anY?

  7. steve Says:

You think gas should be free? we lost 10% of out refining capacity. You can have higher prices or lines and shortages: one or the other. Of course prices should go up. Why you "progressives" want to make some poor gas station owner pay so that doctors and lawyers can save a buck or two on filling their SUV is beyond me. You people are pathetic. If one gas station is charging more than others in the area, go buy your gas somewhere else, don't go crying to the government like a spoiled child.

Do your research .. I don't care what the price of a barrel of oil is today...One: it takes 3 months for that price to even effect the price of gas at the pump.. NOT 3 hours... Two: The 'price of oil' is like a share of stock, there is a huge difference b/w actual price a oil and 'paper' price of a oil.. Does anyone remember the dot.com boom???

  9. Ashley Says:

Price Gauging is a very controversial subject. At my school I am working on a project to try to pretend to pass a bill. For our subject we choose price gauging. This project is for my eighth grade talented and gifted class (TAG). The project is called Eastern Ohio Summit (EOS). If some one could please e mail me with more strictly factual information about the matter of price gauging, I would greatly appriciate it.

  10. paul Says:

The Chevron on Jupiter and 190 in Plano, TX is charging 3.39 and across the street is 2.89. Hmmmm. Go figure.

  12. Kyle Says:

Whoever this idiot Steve is talking about quit crying to the government about us doctors and lawyers driving SUV's who are sick of paying a couple extra bucks. Dude, I'm a student with loans and no job...I drive an SUV. You're an idiot. Anyone is who thinks we should just sit here and take these prices. They're getting rediculous and it's going to put the whole economy under when people stop driving which means they stop going places to buy which means bad economic impact. I'm still a student in college and I'm smarter than the moron that wrote that.

  13. jhhg Says:

how come this article doesn't talk about 9/11 and war in iraq for price gauging reasons.
