Here is how Bill Frist’s Senate website characterized his remarks on the Senate Floor today:
Frist Offers Proposal To End Judicial Nominations Impasse
Fortunately, the Associated Press wasn’t fooled:
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist refused to budge Thursday on his demand that Democrats forgo filibusters against all of President Bush’s past or present nominees to federal appellate court benches or the Supreme Court.
AP gets it exactly right. Frist’s proposal is completely irrelevant to the controversy. Frist offered to extend the length of debate to 100 hours on federal appellate judges in exchange for the elimination of the judicial filibuster. One problem: no one ever asked to extend the length of debate. Frist would have done just as well offering his opponents a shiny nickel.
Frist isn’t interested in solving this issue, he’s interested in being president in 2008 and he’s better everything on the religious right.
April 28th, 2005 at 4:48 pmI say let him keep talking. Let him keep smiling that freaked out smile. He’ll talk himself right out of a presidential run. Meow.
April 28th, 2005 at 5:42 pmContrary to its usual MO, AP even got the headline right: “Frist Won’t Budge on Filibuster Demands”. Reid seems to still be playing a master game, saying he’d look at the offer, but as far as he could see, the problem is the GOP’s attempt to deny minority input, not the number of hours in a debate.
So it’s back in Frist’s crumbling court yet again. He looks weak to the nutcase contingent he fronted for on Sunday, and the rational folks just see him as obstructionist. I hope he does get the GOP nomination for prez. We’ll mop up the floor with him. May he head up the senate Reps for a long, long, time — as leader of a tiny minority, of course.

April 28th, 2005 at 7:39 pmThe only bummer is that (maybe) 51% voted for the freaked out smile and deer in the headlights expression of GW. The more psychotic they are, the more the intelligence deficient vote for them.
I like what Harry Reid said in response: “It’s a big wet kiss to the far right.” Go Harry!
