Sure, we all knew it.
But now there’s even more proof the White House was determined to go to war no matter, without letting pesky facts stand in its way.
According to recently leaked notes from a 6/23/02 meeting between Britain and President Bush, the chief of Britain’s intelligence service worried Bush had made up his mind to overthrown Saddam Hussein and was pushing to manipulate intelligence into backing him up.
(Side Note: Keep in mind, in June 2002, President Bush was telling Americans there were no plans yet to attack Iraq. In August 2002, remember, the State Department deputy spokesman said shot down ideas that the administration was pushing for war saying, “There are no plans to attack Iraq on the President’s desk. He has said that.”)
In the leaked memo, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw stated, “Bush has made up his mind to take military action.” The British intelligence chief went further, charging “the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.” Straw also noted, “the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbors and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran.”
After the invasion of Iraq failed to turn up any weapons of mass destruction, the White House tried to shrug off accountability and just blame faulty intelligence. Last summer, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report slamming U.S. intelligence community. Taking place in an election year, the Committee sidestepped the question of White House culpability, saying they would do a second phase report after the November 2004 election.
Recently Sen. Pat Roberts, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, blew off the second phase of the report, saying it would be a “monumental waste of time” to investigate further. As this new memo shows, it would be a monumental mistake not to.
It’s official. Jack Straw is a liberal agitator pushing a homosexual anti-Christian agenda!
Isn’t that right, Karl Rove?
And when do we begin drawing down troops? Well, most coalition members have already!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, AGAIN.
May 6th, 2005 at 11:09 amOne word: IMPEACH.
May 6th, 2005 at 11:09 amWonder when Fox news will report on this?
May 6th, 2005 at 11:12 amKrazny, I think that’s about the same time as the seas turn to yoghurt as Kermit once said.
Z.
May 6th, 2005 at 11:36 amI need to find a nice cave somewhere.
May 6th, 2005 at 11:55 amWhat can we do to get this on the mainstream media? Why are they ignoring this. This is proof of am impeachable offense.
May 6th, 2005 at 12:18 pmWe are living in a New Reich, and THEY control the media, all of the government except the judiciary-and they’re working on that, the major corporations, hell they probably own the banks we have our mortgages in.
So when Clinton has hanky panky that effects no one but a small group of people, the propaganda machine of the New Reich pumps out news by the moment. Something really significant happening like, uh, proof of a president lying about WMD and getting way over 100,000 people killed, well, the propaganda machine knows when to be quiet. I wonder how long the rest of the world has known that we have been a fascist country? Seems they’ve successfully pulled the wool over the common brain-dead people, and only the “evil-ungodly-unpartriotic- liberals” are noticing.
May 6th, 2005 at 12:25 pmExcepting the 9-11 Commission which had NO mandate to critically examine what the Whitehouse was doing, the investigations thus far have been a whitewash and farce.
Pat Roberts, perversely, is right: any further work under his direction would a waste of time and taxpayer money.
At the risk of sounding heretical, I think we need to cut our losses here. Bush, LLC hijacked 9-11 for their own purposes, including an ill-advised war in Iraq that we will be paying for generations to come.
Okay. Got it. But no impeachment committee is going to get these bozos out office–not in this current climate.
We have to (1) fight the conservative noise machine; (2) get the truth out to the American citizenry; (3) show and vote for all elections, local state and national; and (4) actively–of course, legally–resist this quasi-fascist/quasi-theocracy masquerading as “Conservatism.”
May 6th, 2005 at 12:50 pmI agree with your statement but I’m still wodering why the Washington Post or LA, NY Times haven’t jumped on this. Certainly the Karl Rove stick can’t be that effective as to silence all news sources. Someone has to have the balls to report the truth.
May 6th, 2005 at 1:14 pmThe Mainstream Media was neuterd September 12th 2001. I thought we all were aware of this.
May 6th, 2005 at 1:51 pmI am going to meet with my local paper today and physically hand them these papers and ask them why are they not printing this story.
May 6th, 2005 at 3:43 pmthe fascism was obvious as soon as the US pulled the old burn the reichstag trick, and blamed it on their “enemies” if you don’t support them you support the enemy.. classic totalitarianism.
May 6th, 2005 at 3:55 pm10 & 12, given your statements are true, are we complacent enough to accept that as laize faire or do we need to press the point to change the perspective?
May 6th, 2005 at 7:14 pmCan you say memo-gate? Someone stole the real memos… doctored up copies to look mostly authentic… and some blogger will devine they are frauds.
May 6th, 2005 at 7:23 pmWar Planning
May 6th, 2005 at 7:36 pmIt appears that our president was planning to go to war in Iraq even though he and his representatives insisted that they were not.
So, when Powell and Rice went before Congress in October ‘02, trying to drum up support for granting the President authority to go into Iraq, and they swore up and down that as of yet, there wasn’t even a contingency plan for war, they were lying? And they haven’t caught hell for it? I can’t believe the Bush Admin. could piss on their country that way. No, wait, yes I could.
May 6th, 2005 at 7:56 pmThis is how Hitler started his third Reich in Germany. People like Rep James Sensenbrenner RWI gets the Real ID bill passed by attatching it to troupe funding bill without debate and giveing Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff authority to weive any law he wants to in the name of National Security. What a bunch of jerk we are. I wonder who will come to are defense when we are like the Iraqs are.
May 6th, 2005 at 9:08 pmThe television media have been “complicit” for many years now – long before Bush II. Remember the lie about Clinton’s haircut, Al Gore’s sigh (OMG how many times did we have to watch that) and Howard Dean’s scream! The gaffes of Bush II are buried. Ask yourselves why there is absolutely nothing on the issues that really matter to the U.S. Poverty, Infant Mortality, etc. All we have gotten for so long is tabloid – Some women who ran over her husband, Michael Jackson, runaway bride…. the list for years has been endless. They have truly dumbed the U. S. population down. I believe that is why in the Reagon years they started with the public schools. If Americans have zero sense of history, civics, etc. we are easy to control.
May 6th, 2005 at 9:47 pmSex sells papers. If Bush was caught having sex with an intern that would get attention. It is short, quick, and to the point. Trying to explain involved national security problems in a 2 minute spot is a lot more complicated.
May 7th, 2005 at 11:07 amBush supporters are high as a kite on Rush Limbaugh’s doped self-rightious
May 7th, 2005 at 11:15 ampropagander. Brainwashed to see, speak, and hear no evil, the’ve zombied into
lemmings that will follow Bush happily as he takes America over the cliff!
I think we are all familiar with the phrase, “Starve the Beast”. I think it came into being during the Reagan years and has been carried forward mainly in the context of Grover Norquist and his flock of anti-taxers.
I believe that starving the beast is applicable to almost every issue these days. Social Security, the Judiciary, PBS. The defunding can be financial or intellectual or administrative. By removing the underpinnings of a department or organization or branch of government, that entity can destroyed.
I believe that the only long term answer to these insults to the infrastructure of the intelligent, free and effective structures of our government is to turn the concept of starving the beast on it’s head as currently used and begin to remove resources from the perpetrators of our current disaster.
It will require people to boycott the giant companies that truly corrupt our government. It will require people of a religious persuasion to steer their tithings to churches or organizations that don’t feel a need to steer government toward a singular and ideological god. It will require that citizens view nature and it’s resources as profound gifts to humanity that are to be acknowledged and cherished rather than inventoried and gobbled up. Meaning the removal of huge tax breaks to resource strippers and degraders.
I am sceptical that these things can be done. America is fat, lazy, unfocused and bewildered. Those characteristics have been noted by the right are are being fully exploited.
Cash = Power and Power = Cash and the only way to thwart the influence and control exerted by the corrupt and greedy conservatives is to Starve Their Beasts. It’s all they will understand and the only path that will have any lasting effect.
May 7th, 2005 at 12:17 pmI emailed ABC, NBC,CBS and asked them why this story was not being given prime coverage! 88 Congressmen signed a letter to Bush asking him to explain this matter, and not one blip. Let Clinton have alittle hanky panky that kills NO ONE and we get 24/7 coverage!
I think we should all go to these websites and ask this question–I pretty much demanded coverage. One of the stations had a News Tip email, and I gave them this story as a news tip since they weren’t covering it.
I wonder how long the rest of the world knew we were not free and were living in a fascist nation?
May 7th, 2005 at 2:46 pmPlease, somebody call his wife so she can convince Sen. Kerry to lead the impeachment charge by forming The Swift Votes for Truth Committee. That’s the least he could do considering how much we did for him.
May 7th, 2005 at 7:29 pmIF SOMEONE COULD FURNISH THE EMAIL ADDRESS OF ALL THE MAJOR NEWS SERVICES, MY FRIENDS AND I WILL BE GLAD TO SEND EMAILS ON THIS SUBECT.
May 8th, 2005 at 12:50 pmI have posted a petition on PetitionOnline to formally request an impeachment proceeding in the U.S. House of Representatives–please sign it.
May 9th, 2005 at 1:38 amWhen I read the original posting I thought “this is it, the proof is out”, but it went nowhere. How can this be, where is the outrage. My head is going to explode if I keep the screaming inside. Do we call out representatives or newspaper editors? Can we get copies of the original text? I need to do something besides make hole in the lining of my stomach.
May 9th, 2005 at 8:44 amThese are the email addresses of major TV stations and newspapers. If you want to email them and ask them why they are not covering this story, it would help if you can get more signatures.
