Early 2004: CIA Warns Bush About the Potential of a Civil War in Iraq
“CIA officers in Iraq are warning that the country may be on a path to civil war, current and former U.S. officials said Wednesday, starkly contradicting the upbeat assessment that President Bush gave in his State of the Union address.”
Mid-September 2004: Leaked National Intelligence Council Report Warns of Possible Civil War In Iraq
“A classified National Intelligence Estimate prepared for President Bush in late July spells out a dark assessment of prospects for Iraq, government officials said Wednesday. The estimate outlines three possibilities for Iraq through the end of 2005, with the worst case being developments that could lead to civil war, the officials said. The most favorable outcome described is an Iraq whose stability would remain tenuous in political, economic and security terms.”
Mid-September 2004: Bush, White House Downplay Significance of Civil War Possibility in Iraq
Bush: “The CIA laid out a — several scenarios that said, life could be lousy, like could be okay, life could be better. And they were just guessing as to what the conditions might be like.”
McClellan’s response: White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the intelligence assessment “states the obvious,” and he dismissed skeptics of the Iraq policy as “pessimists and naysayers.”
Late-September 2004: CIA Reacts With Indignation at Bush’s Resistance to Change Course
“People at the CIA ‘are mad at the policy in Iraq because it’s a disaster, and they’re digging the hole deeper and deeper and deeper,’ said one former intelligence officer who maintains contact with CIA officials.”
Now: Bush Administration Desperately Seeking Help In Confronting Threat of Iraq Civil War
“The Bush administration, seeking to close the continuing rift between Shiite and dissident Sunni Arab leaders in Iraq, is enlisting Europe, the Arab world and the United Nations to pressure the Baghdad government to include minorities in the political process, administration and other diplomats say.”
Zoiks! I am continually amazed that repblicans tolerate and support this leadership. And, as we slip past 1700 KIA and move toward 1800 GIs KIA, when does it become too many to justify the investment?
June 12th, 2005 at 7:15 pmI just attended “Blues Fest” in Chicago.
The army had their recruiters out there with one small change….Usually the soldiers flex some muscle and encourage others to do the same. Out in the open, under a tent..
This time was different, the army had a double wide trailer with tinted windows. When a person entered the public could not view what was going on in the trailer. I chanted a couple of times, “Whats going on in there?..Are you beating people into submission?”…
Yeah, I got a few laughs.
Demonstrators against the war stood outside the trailer and when a crowd began to gather the public servants (security) arrived and told them they would have to leave the area..
Dave (the Debtonator) replied, “Don’t worry people I will talk you up on my next radio show”..
Of course the demonstrators were grateful and we exchanged information.
The public servants talked among themselves for a moment and reconsidered and allowed them to stay.
The heros on the homefront with the support of the Debtonator and other citizens proved that in some areas, this is still a free country.
In another area at the Fest, the army had a booth where they were giving out free military-like I.D. tags.
I couldn’t resist, I yelled out “and the toe tags are free too”…I got few more laughs.
What a great day, Bush bashing among a million people!
June 12th, 2005 at 7:47 pmHey non-republicans,
Is Larry Buckshot?
How do we get rid of this mental case?
Is there a place to make a complaint?
Thinkprogress can block his routing number and be done with his lunacy, no?
It’s a shame that Republicans do not know how to behave themselves and abide by rules.
P.S. the anti-republican Susan links her website to her name…All others are imposters and should be jailed upon capture.
June 12th, 2005 at 9:24 pmI don’t think Larry is Buckshot, but with these loons, he may be and not even know he is, if you know what I mean. I do think Larry was the one who “cut and paste” spammed the comments. One thing is for damn sure, we knew that was a namestealing Susan. :)
June 12th, 2005 at 9:36 pmI guess when someone feels they must destroy a thread it can only mean that we are making damaging (to the GOP) statements.
June 12th, 2005 at 10:10 pmI guess we should be flattered.
How many countries around the world offered support to the US before the invasion and the subsequent war in Iraq? Answer: 92
How many countries in the Coalition? Answer: 35
There are a total of 1890 lives lost counting all of the Coalition forces.
It is approaching the 820 day mark and the violence isn’t slowing down any.
100,000 estimated Iraqis died. You are going to anger survivors of the deceased. You will create an instant army of insurgents. Looks like that is what has happened without any doubt.
Civil war? That means everybody shooting at everybody from all directions all of the time. That is what is really going on. It will be some time before it all stops.
400 billion barrels of oil is at stake and whatever else. The war is lost. How in the world are you going to win a war when the insurgents increase the number of attacks? Answer: You are not going to win. However, you must keep spending money to wage the conflict.
It isn’t any fun.
June 12th, 2005 at 11:02 pmThe source of these stories are all from the liberal media. They don’t count.

The leaks have been to the Times UK in London. Rupert Murdoch owns that paper. That probably means nothing to you. You have no idea who Rupert Murdoch is. You don’t anything, do you?
We must intern the feebleminded if we are to survive as a species. Or at least require an intelligence poll test.
June 13th, 2005 at 10:09 amI think ‘head in the sand’ is being sarcastic.
June 13th, 2005 at 10:21 amSo was I. :)
That being said, how many people who watch Fox news actually know who Rupert Murdoch is, let alone Roger Ailes?
