Powerline Needs to Read British Briefing Papers

Unsurprisingly, right-wing bloggers have largely ignored the Downing Street memo. Up to today, even those who have addressed the revelations — namely Andrew Sullivan and Powerline — are left unimpressed by the findings. In fact, Powerline goes so far as to claim that the memo “tells us nothing new about pre-war intelligence on Iraq, and is anything but a bombshell.”

One of Powerline’s key arguments, however, rests on the supposed ambiguous meaning behind a shocking sentence in the memo: “the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.” Powerline says that “whatever the British note-taker meant by the sentence he obviously didn’t mean that there was any doubt on the part of British intelligence or Blair’s government that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.”

But today we released the British Briefing Papers which clearly shows the British had serious doubts about whether Iraq had WMD. In the Iraq Options Paper, the Britsh government acknowledged “our intelligence is poor” about Iraq WMD.

The right-wing’s blind faith now just looks like willful ignorance.

  1. Gary Kleppe says:

    Powerline’s intelligence is also poor.

  2. Russ Ruszkowski says:

That’s the best way to win an argument. It’s Powerline’s version of, “Nuh-huh!”

C’mon, this isn’t about a real president, is it? I thought I was just having a very long nightmare….

I read the letter to Clinton in 98 (offered here by a poster) and to me that also proves that the pugs were planning an illegal war with Iraq.
This letter could also be proof that Bushie planned the attack on America to fit his agenda.
The facts keep coming in and if people are not already outraged they should be.

It’s going to hurt even more when solid proof is in that Bushie paid Bin Laden to attack America.
The very thought of it makes my skin crawl…

We also need to pull out the evidence of Bolton (I think it was him, correct me if I’m wrong) firing the head of the weapons inspectors..
Remember the story? He was fired because he told the truth..

All of the evidence needs to be put in order and presented at once.

There will be no way for BushCo to wrangle out of the evidence if it is introduced properly and completely.

    Susan,

I hope so, but who’s going to present this? When? It seems like a trainwreck with its crediting and discrediting, its truth vs. spin interpretations, etc.

I’d like to add that many Dems. we have representing us smell foul, but I will support them in challenging/defeating the current Republican scum which stinks to high heaven.

    Skid,
votetoimpeach.org is organized by Ramsey Clark.
He was Clintons former Attorney General, which obviously makes him an attorney who has the know how.
Support his cause and let him know that impeachment is the only action you are willing to take at this point.
DemocracyForAmerica.com is also joining the fight.
They want the “minutes” on the minds of every American and is asking for your ideas.
    Check them out.
Moveong.org is also asking what role their members want them to play..They are a powerhouse organization.
Check them out, tell them what you want.
Remember, these organizations have attorneys working for them and have the benefit of good legal advice and representation.
You do not have to contribute any money to join these organizations. They appreciate your time and effort.
Just keep demanding answers and you will get them.
Let every organization, politician and citizen know that you have only one goal and that is IMPEACHMENT.

Actually, the British Briefing Papers do not show that the British had doubts about Iraq’s WMD, only that it wouldn’t stand in court (think Michael Jackson trial :-) The fact is, even the French and Russians were convinced Iraq had WMD. This still doesn’t make the war either right or wise, of course, but adding it only makes a powerful case look less convincing.
