In his radio address Saturday, President Bush said the troops will come home when the Iraqi security forces are fully trained:
Our military strategy is clear: We will train Iraqi security forces so they can defend their freedom and protect their people, and then our troops will return home…
The White House won’t estimate how long that will take. That’s probably because, according to Americans on the ground in Iraq, it will be a very long time. The New York Times reports:
Despite the Bush administration’s insistent optimism, Americans working with the Iraqis in the field believe it could be several years, at least, before the new Iraqi forces will be ready to stand alone against the insurgents.
Remember before the war started, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said he doubted the conflict would last six months.
Basically Bushie is saying that if we do not want to fight his oil war, our only option is to impeach him.

June 25th, 2005 at 1:47 pmImpeachment is the means by which We The People of the United States and our elected representatives in Congress can prevent further crimes by the President and the human catastrophe they threaten and force accountability for crimes committed.
Congressional proceedings for impeachment can bring about open, fearless consideration of the most dangerous acts and threats ever committed by an American President. If courageously pursued, they can save our Constitution, the United Nations, the rule of law, the lives of countless people and leave open the possibility of peace on earth. Each of us must take a stand on impeachment now, or bear the burden of having failed to speak in this hour of maximum peril.

June 25th, 2005 at 2:07 pmIt will take years to pump 400 billion barrels of oil from the ground in Iraq. Might as well have Irans, Syrias, Sudans, Afghanistans, Saudi Arabias, et al total amount of oil in the ground.
The US owns it all.

June 25th, 2005 at 2:24 pmAmen, there’s the strategy.
June 25th, 2005 at 3:16 pmHow about this lame statement: “Our military strategy is clear: We will train Iraqi security forces so they can defend their freedom and protect their people, and then our troops will return home”.
Does Bushie not read or listen to the news?
The Iraqi police and security forces are being killed faster than we can train them.
I guess that never is the exit strategy Bushie has in mind.
June 25th, 2005 at 5:04 pmNot just return home, but return home with the honor that they deserve.
As if they will shame themselves if they fail.
Can this CS stoop any lower?
June 25th, 2005 at 9:23 pmwhoops… I almost forgot:
And while we’re at it, don’t forget to cut $1,000,000,000 out of the VA benefits budget and blame it on an accounting error when it becomes obvious we can no longer afford to give proper care to those fine, fine amputees.

June 25th, 2005 at 11:41 pmThose of us who have been paying attention can tell you, there are no plans for the withdrawal of US troops — absolutely none.
We all know that Halliburton, KBR, et al have thousands of construction personnel in Iraq. Are they rebuilding Baghdad and other cities that were blown apart during the shock’n'awe phase of the Iraq invasion? Well, no.
Are they rebuilding the electric power grids and urban plumbing (both in dire need of repair)? Well, no, not exactly.
Well, what are they building? They are (maestro: a drum roll, please) building military bases for US military personnel, that’s what they’re building.
You won’t see this on the corporate news since fewer and fewer of those folks are daring to step outside the ‘green zone’. You’ll catch glimpses of this construction from our military personnel when they send photos home to their family and friends.
This has been the plan all along. Ever since the US military wore out its welcome in the land of Saud, the plan has been to relocate our military presence to the ‘Raq.
Meanwhile, our fearless leader maintains that our forces will return home once the Iraqi military and police forces are up and running. Yeah, right.

June 26th, 2005 at 11:44 amit’s time to really start hitting the republicans where it hurts. here’s something for the progressive leadership.
point out to karl rove the greatest military actions of the last 100 years that republican administrations have mustered (with vietnam really being both):
grenada
panama
iraq 1
iraq 2
while democratic administrations can offer:
ww i
ww ii
korea
really, there’s no comparison. all you have to do is tell the truth. and HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS.
(by the way, i’m a writer & available for hire :) — hey, it can’t hurt!).
June 26th, 2005 at 2:47 pm“Return with the honor that they deserve…”
Hmmm…sounds awfully familiar…maybe because it’s almost identical to Richard Nixon’s slogan, “Peace with Honor”! Of course, Nixon probably deserves more credit than Bush on that level, as he at least wasn’t personally responsible for starting the Viet Nam War!
The fact is, Bush lied and manipulated to start this war to divert attention away from the fact that his incompetency had driven his approval ratings down the toilet! Indeed, the only time I can recall when Bush actually had high approval ratings was the period following 9/11, when a rattled and frightened American public which had just been declared war on rallied ’round its President, as would be expected.
Obviously having learned his lesson from “Daddy’s” experience, he not only purposely misled Congress and the American public into an intractable quagmire, he also saw to it that his mess would continue right through the 2004 campaign and beyond, lest anyone dare to focus on his incompetent performance, dismal results, utter disregard for our laws and Constitution and abuse of office — after all (as he was so quick to claim), he’s a “wartime President!”
June 26th, 2005 at 4:46 pmIs it any wonder that the Iraqi RAHOWA is quickly becoming a serious quagmire for the Americans as much as for the British?
June 27th, 2005 at 10:26 amAs Pete Seeger said during the Vietnam War “Waist deep in the Big Muddy and the Big Fool says to push on” Impeachment is an Impossible Dream with both Houses of Congress controlled by Republicans.
June 27th, 2005 at 12:14 pm12 years is a hard concept.
try this…
If you have, or know someone who has, a 6 year old child — that child will probably be facing the prospect of dying in Iraq when he/she turns 18.
does this help?
