Bush Repeatedly Exploits Troops

President Bush’s speech tonight at Fort Bragg, North Carolina is an effort to bolster plummeting support for the war in Iraq. It’s not the first time Bush has exploited troops for political purposes. According to a story that just came over the AP wire, Bush has done it five times already this year:

Already this year, Bush has visited Fort Hood, Texas, twice; has spoken to U.S. troops returning from Iraq at Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany; has stood with armed forces members in a Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery; and has delivered the commencement address to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

The President’s policies should stand on their on two feet — not on the backs of American troops.

Oh, and P.S. Check out the fall out from real GIs at (no, I have no connection to this location. I just like it a whole lot): http://takeittokarl.blogspot.com/

Bush can’t make a speech without the proper backdrop or props. Tonight, he travels to a military base to use the troops as props. If not sufficiently threatened with discipline, the troops should boo him off the stage.

I totally agree! As a Vetran, I never remember any president who stood on the backs of the men and women who have chosen to defend this country with their lives, to prop up their lagging popularity! The Truth is exposing the white house and all its lies and is now beginning to be heard despite the efforts of the bush administration and all the media they control to cover it up. The bodies can be covered over with dirt but the smell will rise up from the graves and penetrate the nostrils of all nearby!

I cannot agree more with these other comments. Smirk only feels comfortable when he is totally safe from probable harm. Sad to know ahead of time that he will not be boo’d because of military disipline. And that’s another reason he only speaks in front of military and investers, no one would dare boo him.
On the positive side it is most likely cheaper to put a guy like smirk on a military base than to fly him into Boston to talk to a college crowd or NGO. So there will be more money left over for “Rods from God”..and stuff like that ….i will not be watching tonight…..nothing will ever change with this guy….only the lies will spin upon themselves and the attack on the progressives will ensue……

    He’s exploiting seniors too.
Remember how he smoozed them into voting for him?
Starting January 1st Medicare will no longer cover anti-anxiety medication….
Go figure, scare the seniors into believing that we are under attack and then refuse to help with their anxiety.
17 million seniors will be affected by this Medicare cut.

Now thats hitting below the belt!

Yes, he has visited all the bases with living breathing soldiers to play Commander in Chief. He has not gone to the funeral of one of the soldiers whose death he has caused. I believe he is the only leader who has not honored the dead of his war. Some leader. I wouldn’t follow him anywhere, let alone a war.

  7. Dick (no, not that one) says:

It’s simple. aWol is a coward and a moron. When he had achance to be a real soldier, not just play one on an aircraft carrier, he ran and his daddy covered for him. He can’t stand people asking him questions because he knows that he truly is dumber than the box the rocks came in.

And he doesn’t have the balls to go to the funeral of one of the youngsters that he sent to die. Remember how he said it was hard work having to tell a family it’s too bad their son died? Of course, he was promptly put into his place by a real mother who wrote that, no, hard work is burying your son.

He has shown himself to be a man that truly has no character whatsoever. It’s why he and Rove get along so well. For aWol, it’s no different than playing video games.

He probably truly thinks that as long as he doesn’t see pictures of flag draped coffins, they didn’t really die.

Bush speaking to the troops is also a huge morale booster to them. I know from personal experience since I am an active duty service member. I don’t agree with everything he says and does but I respect him for the tough job he is doing and I have seen up close the face of the enemy in Iraq.

It would be nice to not have to ever go to war, but we are fighting the lowest form of evil over there.. regardless of whether they were involved in 9-11 or had WMD.

Until we get politicians who have rejected irrationality and altruism we must do the best we can with what we have.
