Bush Prepared To Exploit 9/11

Bush Prepared To Exploit 9/11

It’s a known fact. Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with Osama bin Laden. Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11. There is no connection.

Yet, according to excerpts of his speech , which have just been released, President Bush will try to distract Americans from his lack of an Iraq strategy by invoking 9/11:

They are trying to shake our will in Iraq – just as they tried to shake our will on September 11, 2001.

The only way our enemies can succeed is if we forget the lessons of September 11 … if we abandon the Iraqi people to men like Zarqawi … and if we yield the future of the Middle East to men like Bin Laden.

Another predictably pathetic attempt to play on our emotions. This time, the American people aren’t buying it.

The really sad thing is, it’ll probably work.

Do you think “Dufus” will talk about how great the elections in Iran went? I heard they were a smashing success. “Freedom is spreading!”

    Oh, perhaps not.

  4. P O'Neill says:

It’s predictable and sickening. But there could be a second strategy behind it — to narrow the scope of the GWoT to just al Qaeda so as to lay the table for a cut-and-run from Iraq with a declaration that al Qaeda has been defeated. By which they will specifically mean foreign fighters. Thus a full scale civil war won’t threaten the GWoT as long as it’s just Iraqis duking it out.

    1744 US military deaths

    12855 wounded

    It’s all been worth it.

Thirteen more deaths today in Afghanistan.

    It’s not that bad.

Critics slam exploitation of non-existent connection… “the American people aren’t buying it”…

  7. Susan says:

All I know is that if my man was afraid of terrorists coming after us, I’d kick him to the curb. Sissy’s and I just dont mix well.

Afterall, we have the Department of Homeland Security to protect us. Whats all the fuss?

  8. Angelo says:

spinning spinning spinning..so sick of our leaders lying, distorting, covering up..But wait..look at Iraq…really accomplishing something there aren’t we Mr Bush, Mr Cheney, Mr Rove, Mr Wolfritz and can we cannot forget Rummie..wow..what a team

George W. Bush = creator of thousands of terrorists since 3/19/03.

  10. Kathy says:

Of course he will, how could anyone one expect anything more from him or the rest of his administration. This is how they function and they will not change. It seems at this time people are starting to wake up, hopefull the trend will continue.

  11. mark says:

Wow!! I can’t believe they had the balls to bring up 911 again in connection with Iraq!! Is that all he can say?? It’s like a broken record…this time it ain’t gonna work…

Even the American people aren’t that stupid!!!!!

  12. SkyWriter says:

    G’Day All:

As I’ve written elsewhere, playing the nine-eleven card causes a highly predictible Pavlovian response — sadness and rage. Expect this adminstration to play that card whenever the stench of this unwarranted war begins to leave a foul taste in our mouths.

The Iraqi resistance caught the US and its coalition of bullied and bribed nations completely flat footed. It’s been more than two years since we read the ‘mission accomplished’ banner and still, venturing outside the green zone is what you might call suicidal.

So far, in spite of all the snafu and tacfu sit-reps we get from the ‘Raq day after day, and all that equally dire pre-war intelligence (NOTHING was right — no WMD, no OBL-Saddam connection, no chemo-bio labs, no yellow cake — NOTHING!) not a single member of this administration has admitted a single mistake on their part of the equation. It’s laughable, but oh, so tragic.

Karl Rove LOVES the 9/11 stuff. He thinks it energizes his base. Well yea, it probably does, but doesn’t he see that his base is shrinking mightily lately.

The Emperor – he ain’t wearin’ any clothes….

  14. Andros says:

    Christy,
Can you tell us what percentage of Americans still believe in the Iraq/Osama/911/WMD connection? There are a few polls out there…

I’d say IF the percentage is still high, then how you’d explain it?

Of course, Bush has to play this card, appeal to the emotional…. it won him the election! Hot-button politics and a bumper sticker mentality obviously moves/convinces many Americans, not to mention that repeating falsehoods gives a figleaf cover to those who want to believe him.

Fear is a great motivator. I don’t see why Bush should abandon this strategy. The question is how do we expose him for what he is: a dangerous leader who has made America less safe, and at a great cost!

Yet, I haven’t heard a consice, comprehensive plan on Iraq from the Democrats! Why are they afraid to say they want the troops out, sooner than later? In a way, they too give ammunition to Bush by not opposing his policies more vigorously.

I bet you, the Dems response tonight will be a confusing, long-winded effort to appeal to everybody and cover everything under the sun… Oh, and giving the impression they’re walking on eggshells…..

  15. Mark in Mexico says:

The Associated Press has me confused.

What day is this? Tuesday, right? Late afternoon? The AP is reporting that President Bush gave a speech on Tuesday evening about the situation in Iraq. Except that it’s not yet Tuesday evening. And he hasn’t given the speech, yet.

  16. TonyC says:

Hey! Is anyone else playing the “9/11″ Drinking Game tonight? You take a shot every time one of the RepubliTaliban mentions 9/11!
Man, it took me days to sober up after their Convention!!

  18. Ralph says:

It was a given that junior would invoke 911. What’s really tragic is that he’s not offering anything new. No additional troops, no exit strategy, no time table, nothing. Same old shit… will America buy it?

  19. Susan Nial says:

The president who supports the troops cuts their benefits and forgets to send them the arms and protection they need. The president who believes in democracy and freedom allows our own reporters to face prison. The president who believes in free elections allows his own party to take away the votes of minority voters. The president who believes in America sells America to the Chinese. This guy is a liar.

By the way–if 911 is so important to him why isn’t Osama’s head on a pike in front of the White House. I guess we went to war with the President we had not the president we hoped to have.

  20. LL says:

Bush really doesn’t care what we think…. He just doesn’t want to be impeached or investigated!

  21. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

If Bush-it lied during his speech, and I lie about what he lied about in his lying speech, does that make my lie the truth?

Anyway, let’s do a bit of “historical revision” on Bush-it’s speech:

“The work in Iraq of stealing their oil and U.S. tax dollars is difficult and dangerous because D!ck and I have to hide the truth from the world. Like most Americans, I see the images of violence and bloodshed. Every picture is horrifying – and the suffering is real. Amid all this violence, I know Americans ask the question: Is the sacrifice worth it, especially since learning I lied to start a war? It is worth it, and it is vital to the future security of our country now that the whole world hates us? And tonight I will lie again when I explain the reasons why.”

    (Fake clapping)

“The terrorists can kill the innocent but they are not in Iraq, they are in Saudi Arabia — but Iraqis cannot stop our advance to free their oil to Halliburton. Too bad we stopped the real war on terrorism to start a bogus war in Iraq and turned ordinary peace loving Iraqi citizens into insurgents bent on killing U.S. soldiers and Halliburton employees until we leave their country. The only way our enemies can succeed is if we keep killing and torturing innocent Iraqis. Forget the lessons of September 11 and the hunt for Osama bin Laden … if we abandon the Iraqi oil fields to men like Zarqawi … and if we yield the future of the all Middle East oil to to the citizens of those countries, Halliburton won’t be able to steal their oil anymore.”

    (More fake clapping)

“We have more disgusting unethical work to do, if you find out what we are doing, there will be tough moments that test America’s revulsion with it all. We are the fighting men with blind hatred — and armed with lethal weapons — we are capable of any atrocity against an unarmed and innocent Iraqi population. They wear no uniform; they respect no laws of Halliburton or Bechtel. Therefore, we take innocent lives to create chaos for the cameras. They are trying to shake our will in Iraq because we are imperialistic invaders — so we accuse them unjustly as being responsible for September 11, 2001. They will not fail. We have become terrorists in their country and do not understand Iraq. The Iraqi people do not falter under our threats — and they will not allow their future to be determined by a corrupt administration.”

    (Even more fake clapping)

  22. Lenore says:

Just when did “we the people” of these United States become so dumb? Were all those people in the red states sleeping the first four years of this president’s term? Now his popularity is going down? I can’t believe that many states put this man back in the White House. (including my own dumb state of Ohio) I think if the truth ever came out of that man’s mouth Barbara Bush would wash it out with soap!

  23. Barbara Minich says:

The speech I saw was given by a war criminal trying to cover his tracks. Loved the way he toned down the arrogant smirk and strut and acted all subdued and serious. Yeh, we need patience – to keep from marching down to the White House and dragging him out by his lying tongue.

  24. Frank says:

Why are so many guard units deployed in Iraq? Mr. Bush needs his regular army at home to support his speeches. Could also be used for purposes of martial law.

  25. betty chase says:

I sat and listened to that a hole say the same thing over and over again. He truly thinks all of us are going to believe in him after all we get is lie after lie. I’m totally in favor of impeaching his whole administration once and for all. Hes worse than Nixon in my opinion. John McCain should be thrown in with the bunch as hes turned into a turncoat and talks out of both sides of his mouth. He said he would be extremely proud if his son was sent to Iraq, so why not send him along with the Bush dtrs, and Cheneys 2 dtrs. Not!!!!!!!!!

  26. TWF says:

I am really surprised that the 9/11 families, who know that their tragic losses have been used as an excuse for crimes we could not have imagined, over and over again, haven’t gone absolutley ballistic over last nights 11 mentions of 9/11 in commection with the war in Iraq.

We say, if they want to start yapping about 9/11 again, like it had anything at all to with Saddam, then let’s talk about 9/11 and the truth of the events of that day, and the Anthrax-Letters which followed (only addressed, as I recall, to Democratic Leaders, who were out of power. There are so many unanswered questions, 151 errors and/or out-right lies in the 9/11 Commission Report.

So lets talk aboit 9/11 and keep talking about it!

  27. Greg says:

What is perhaps even more disgusting is that 9/11 was the Bush/Cheney junta’s Reichstag fire. Do you get this all you
well intention progressives? 9/11 was a U.S. Attack!

Why don’t more peopleknow this? Because the “leftgatekeepers
at Phony publications like Nation, Progressive, Buzzflash,Truthout, Common Dreams are all coopted cowardly scum that are ALL indirectly SUPPORTING FASCISM by not talking about the smoking gun 9/11 was an INSIDE JOB

    WAKE THE F–K UP!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Anne says:

How dare this man stand in the midst of troops and talk about how honorable it is to serve in the military! He who evaded VietNam, lost his right to fly, and did not have the strength of character to finish his evasion commitment – he was thumbing his nose at the American public even then.

Why was he talking about Iraq and the political capital he would have “when I am president” in 1997? What did he know even then, or is he psychic?

We know now for sure that this was an illegal war. Why were American businesses being given contracts to establish themselves in Iraq at the onset of the war – even McDonald’s, for crying out loud. Why are we building permanent bases in Iraq if we intend to turn the country back to the Iraqis?

Under the rules of war, which GW ignored, natural resources are to be returned to the invaded country. Who do you see taking over Iraqi oil resources? Not the Iraqis!

We have created a morass in Iraq, which probably will take years to clean up. We cannot leave the Iraqi people to the fate of civil war, but we should be allowing the Iraqi govt, such as it is, to be making their own decisions and not vetoing anything the Bush admin does not like. They have already proved that they don’t know what they’re talking about!

What a sham, all because the Admin egos are so huge that they ignored all the warnings they were given about the consequences of invasion. They thought they knew better that the experts. They absolutely have blood on their hands.

Incidentally, while 9/11 was a horror almost beyond comprehension, does anyone care that in the same year more people died from starvation in this United States? (govt stats).

The speech was nothing more that GW in C.Y.A. mode, and just another example of “repeat the lie until it becomes truth” – the Rove Doctrine.

  29. ocanada says:

IF and I do say IF Osama Bin Ladin had anything to do with 9-11-01, and IF he was the leader of “Al-Queda” and IF he was involved in “Iraq, the latest battlefront in the war on terror” and IF he even exists, why would he not be back on TV (last time was wow, 2 days before the “election” of king George when he was talkng about Michael Moore), yes TV asking for a million angry radical followers to go to Iraq with the intent to overrun, defeat and humiliate the United States? Osama where are you? In makeup at an undisclosed CIA video studio? In a cave, charging the battery of your video camera? Oh, that’s right George said you are not important anymore. Mission Accomplished!

  30. i h8 W, a lot says:

the emporor aint wearing any clothes.never has. I liken dubya and our situation to captain Ahab and moby dick. i think he really believes his own bullshit. he’s chasing around an enemy that didnt exist, not too much, before he created them. He is a big recruiting poster in the middle east. his very existence creates terrorism. And hes taking the ship down with him.

And yes the people are too stupid to notice.when i argue with right wingers, they repeat what bush says word for word. and they tell me that fox news is the only trusted name in news because it is fair and balanced. What is disturbing is they use the marketing slogan word for word, everytime i debate this, they beg the question everytime. [me] why r we n iraq? [they] because the terrorists r there. [me] our presence brought them there [they] its because they hate freedom

like anyone could possibly hate freedom.thats like saying men despise oral sex

Im really tired of this stalinesque propaganda crap.

I SAY WE TAR AND FEATHER THIS SON OF A BITCH!

“President” Bush is right! We are making progress in Iraq!
A press release in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution states
that (drum roll please) Coca-Cola is launching a comeback in Iraq. The press release says “it (Iraq) has 26 million people and is ripe with potential soft drink buyers”. “Coca-Cola declined to comment on the deal”. Salute the flag! Iraqis can’t have the basics for modern survival like water and electricity, but BY GEORGE they’ll have their Coke and probably can’t wait for the first Pizza Hut outside the Green Zone! The terrorists must be getting word of these milestones of progress…..Come for the jihad, stay for the refreshments!!

  33. charlie says:

You Dems hate Bush so much it has unhinged your thinking about national security, but you have stumbled on a winning issue as far as this Republican is concerned: Get Bin Laden! It would be too much to expect me to vote Democrat because of all the other foolishness you espouse, but I’m with you all the way on this one issue. It’s a winner.
    Charlie

  34. i h8 W, a lot says:

THATS WHAT THIS WHOLE THING IS ABOUT. THE HOUSE VOTED LIKE 434-1 TO INVADE AFGHANISTAN, US LIBERALS WANT OSAMA. THIS IRAQ THING HAS BEFUDDLED US. WE WANT THE GUY WHO ATTACKED US ON 9-11 AND NO ONE ELSE. WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THAT. IRAQ IS A DISTRACTION FROM US GETTING THE GUY WE WANT AND BRINGING HIM TO JUSTICE.

  35. charlie says:

    Hey H8,
Don’t forget that Congress — including Dems — voted overwhelmingly to go into Iraq.
    Charlie

  36. phoenix says:

Just coz a bunch of dumb idiots voted to go to war does not mean that we follow em like blind men. Dont we have our own brains? Where are the weapons of mass deception?

  37. Anne says:

Charlie, The Congress voted to authorize GW to go to war if no other avenue was open. They did not vote to invade and occupy Iraq. Since Iraq was already being bombed, the war had started – BEFORE the congressional vote.
I know repubs sneer at diplomacy and call it weak, but it is one of the ways we avoid war and its devastation.

Also, Congress voted based on false “intelligence” – the Big Lie!

You are right about Bin Laden. GW said we’d hunt until we got him, dead or alive, now he says he doesn’t really care where he is. Ever wonder why the Twin Towers imploded instead of toppling? Could it just be that Bin Laden had nothing to do with 9/11 and that is why GW doesn’t care where he is?

  38. charlie says:

    Anne,
I remember when all the wacko conspiracy theorists were on the right. When Bush-hatred is the underlying motivation, it leads to eye-popping silliness like your comments about the World Trade Center and Bin Laden. As far as the Big Lie, how many times does it have to be reiterated that everyone was fooled. Bush, Clinton, Kerry, the UN, Britain, France, Germany — everyone was convinced that Saddam had WMDs. It was only after the fact that the left twisted reality to suit its political purposes.
    Charlie

  39. charlie says:

  42. Elaine N. Ramey says:

Just after the 9/11 attacks, Bush said he wanted bin Laden DEAD OR ALIVE! A year later Bush said he’s forgetting about bin Laden. Apparently this means that bin Laden was NOT GUILTY and connected to Bush like the rest of the bin Laden family who have been friends with the Bushes for years. Why did Bush & Cheney make separate calls to Sen. Daschle and tell him NOT TO INVESTIGATE THE 9/11 ATTACKS? Why did Bush try to silence the families about questions into 9/11? While everyone else was grounded, why were the bin Laden family allowed to fly out of the country with no questioning? Why did Bush pay the 9/11 families those who would accept millions of dollars to not investigate 9/11? And why did Bush & Cheney insist on appearing together before the 9/11 Commission and REFUSE TO TESTIFY UNDER OATH concerning an event that involved the murder of 3000 people while Clinton was forced to testify UNDER OATH ABOUT SEX? Why did the 9/11 Commission allow this? THE U.S. IS CURRENTLY IN DISGRACE AND MURDERERS ARE LEADING US TO HELL!.
