Congressman Pushes 9/11-Saddam Myth

President Bush might continue to intimate that there was a link between Saddam Hussein and the September 11th attacks but Rep. Robin Hayes (R-NC), the vice chairman of the House subcommittee on terrorism, is stating it explicitly. In an interview on CNN, Hayes insisted, “Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11.” When confronted with the findings of the 9/11 commission — who definitively concluded there was no evidence of a link between Saddam and 9/11 — Hayes retorted, “I’m sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places.” Hayes then defended his position by asserting that “legislators have access to evidence others do not.”

We’re not sure what kind of evidence Hayes has access to but apparently he has higher clearance than U.S. weapons inspectors, CIA directors, counterterrorism experts, Secretaries of State, and even the President…because all those people have accepted the fact that Saddam was not connected to 9/11.

Good thing that we have know-it-all Congressmen to tell us what’s what in the world today. Why was he keeping this information under his hat for so long?

  2. Zwack says:

Perhaps, like some other politicians, God speaks directly to Robin Hayes and has told him the “truth” about Saddam and 9/11.

Or perhaps he is lying his butt off and refuses to admit it.

Your blog trackbacks do not appear to be working correctly. I don’t think that is a correct trasckback address there. I’ve linked to this post from here but the trackback sends back: “Ping ‘http://thinkprogress.org/ 2005/ 06/ 29/ congressman-pushes-911-saddam-myth/ trackback/’ failed: HTTP error: 404 Not Found”

that because someone is a member of congress they have a functioning brain? The sad part of this is that this neocon is probably going to have a whole group of people where he comes from nodding their heads and saying…”yup you done got that right!” Jeff Foxworth has given us the keys to understanding that all that interfamily marriage that some of the South has been famous for, does indeed breed the “yes” men and women clowns like this one depend on to get themselves elected.

  5. Brian says:

Rep. Robin Hayes must be experiencing a painful bout of cognitive dissonance. Perhaps testimony from the hemadrones contain some compelling evidence that is unavailable to the public. I would like to suggest his re-election campaign focus on the scourge of inadequate access to tin foil hats.

Why do the people of North Carolina Hate America so?

They must, the elect numbskulls like this guy to represent them in Congress. What would their mothers say?

Liars figure, but the figures ( facts) don’t lie.

  8. Searunner52 says:

Why do we and the media continue to let clowns like this continue to spew this tripe – It’s time to stop talking and time to start calling these jerks out to be held accountable for their words and actions in the media and in every public forum!

  9. Jim S says:

Not all of us do. Thankfully, Hayes doesn’t represent my district (NC-13). We have a good guy, Brad Miller. But maybe Hayes knows something that Walter Jones doesn’t. Maybe Jones is “out of the loop” not that he’s going against the Shrub. Y’all noticed that Mr Freedom Fries wasn’t on Air Farce Uno for the trip into Pope, right?

  10. Jeff F. says:

“We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 11 September attacks.” – President Bush, Sept., 2003

    FYI. Please stop the lies!

“We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 11 September attacks.â€? – President Bush, Sept., 2003

  12. Bei says:

He must have somehow gained access to the contents of that Top Secret “Wishful Thinking” file that so many in the Bush administration swear by.

  13. Marjorie L. Jennings says:

PLEASE SEND TO YOUR READERS THE LIST OF THE NAMES OF THE PERPETRATORS OF THE SEPTEMBER 11 ATTACKS, AND THE COUNTRY THEY CAME FROM.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEND THAT LIST TO PEOPLE I KNOW WHO STILL BELIEVE THE PRESIDENT WHEN HE CLAIMS THAT SADDAM HUSSEIN WAS BEHIND THE ATTACKS. I believe the president knows better, but since he wants America to remain in Iraq, he pretends otherwise. The truth is: Bush was planning the war in Iraq only ten days after he took the oath of office. This has been published again and again in books I have read.

  14. Mikey says:

I’m not surprised, I think he’s just a successful student of the administration’s brainwashing effort. It worked on 51% of the nation in 2004.

  15. larry says:

brainwashing…? As a North Carolian I can attest to the fact that Rep. Hayes has little material to work with on the brain washing front.

  16. Susan says:

    Marjorie #13,
You are absolutely correct. The most significant part of Bushies prewar plan was to gain public support to invade Iraq, that is why he along with the Saudi’s attacked America. See how well it worked? How many times does he recall/use 9-11?

Bin Laden gets the credit and the paycheck and we get nothing but lies and destruction from a traitor.

i just sent Congressman BirdBrain a letter thru congress.org calling him a knuckleheaded liar. Juvenile, perhaps, but AHHH, that feels better!!

  18. Blogarifica says:

Robin Hayes is a gelatinous boob.

Okay, I’m sorry but how absolutely stupid do you have to be to actually be to still believe that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11? Apparently Robin Hayes (vice chairman of the House subcommittee on terrorism) still believes this and actually said …

  19. RichM says:

I wish rep. Hayes would have made this revelation three years ago so I wouldn’t wasted all this time being distanced from my country and embarressed for the President. W when you read this and I know you do, I take it all back.

  21. mary f munson says:

robin hayes–put up or shut up!!!!!

  22. Skid says:

Perhaps thats the surprise evidence for the Saddam trial? Give him an extra scoop of raisins in his raisin bran and he’ll admit to anything.

  23. Andy says:

    Jesus – this is maddening.

  24. Newsguy says:

When I saw Hayes make this statment on CNN, I absolutely could not believe what I was hearing. For a member of Congress at this late date to continue to perpetrate this misinformation or even lie to advance his political agenda is just stunning. This has got to be one of the more cynical political statements any Congressman has made since the Schaivo case. Or is Hayes so ignorant, he acrtually believes Saddam was involved in /9 / 11? In either case, it demonstrates if this guy can be a Congressman, any moron can be a Congressman. Or president.
