A newly-released Zogby poll indicates that 42 percent of voters say that “if it is found that President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should hold him accountable through impeachment.”
That is a stunningly high number when you consider that only 41 percent of the American public supported Congress proceeding with impeachment hearings against President Clinton in late September 1998. This was after President Clinton’s grand jury testimony was made public and just before the House Judiciary Committee approved a resolution recommending an impeachment inquiry.

Hammer on!
June 30th, 2005 at 5:11 pmmaybe good news but would like to see more about the poll.

June 30th, 2005 at 5:21 pmIf this president isn’t impeachable, nobody is or ever will be. And the vice president.
June 30th, 2005 at 5:23 pmIf Bush is impeached, and Cheney dies (something’s up with his visit to the Vail hospital) who’s next in line? Speaker of the House?
June 30th, 2005 at 5:42 pmLee Powell’s comment is probably the best reason why impeaching Bush is essential. If we fail to do it now, we lose the right to impeach anyone ever again. It would be extremely difficult to dream up a situation that better fits the “high crimes and misdemeanors” claus in the Constitution, so either we do it now, or forever forget it. (Unless, of course, someone else gets a bj while President.)
June 30th, 2005 at 5:43 pmGreat, I’ll ask the Speaker of the House. I’m sure he’ll put the procedings right on the docket. Or have me detained indefinitely as an illegal combatant.
June 30th, 2005 at 5:50 pmALthough he may not be impeached, he may be declared a war criminal by the international community and be unable to travel without risk of arrest. Too bad for us though - it means he’ll never leave, except to go to Jupiter Island, Florida home of numerous American billionaire criminals of war and other enterprises.
June 30th, 2005 at 5:53 pmI’m against this, not because I don’t believe that Bush intetionally misled the nation and committed it to war, but for strategic reasons the Dems shouldn’t do it.
First, this monolithic Congress is too tightly controlled by the Repubs, and no impeachment will actually succeed. Second, I think the issue (if worked wisely) can be a strong card for the Dems in 2006–with possible change of power in the House.
The best approach is to maintain the heat on the White House. This in combination with the Social Security screw up, and the horrible situation in Iraq are great issues, and the Dems should own them and use them to victory in ‘06 & ‘08.
Besides, supposedly, Bush was made to resign…. Hello Dick!
June 30th, 2005 at 5:55 pmI find it depressing that fully 58% of those surveyed are opposed or unsure about when it comes to whether a president should be impeached for lying us into war.
June 30th, 2005 at 6:12 pmSo we shouldn’t try to impeach BushCo. because it’ll be hard work to do so, Andros? Instead wait for ‘06 or ‘08? Sorry, but I heard that in ‘04 and look what happened.
June 30th, 2005 at 6:36 pmSurprising support for the use of empeachment powers. Don’t tease me, I love the idea!
If the Dems use this topic wisely, and somehow get around the electronic vote stealing, to win the House, the Dems MUST work with moderate Republicans to make empeachment work.
This could stand in nice contrast to the way the Repugs railroaded a closet tryst and a stained dress into a full blown, um, empeachment.
Elsewhere outside of the US, I know from personal experience and conversation that the World Court would love to get its hands on Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, Wolfowitz, etc. But these criminals have too much money, power, control, and might be able to avoid arrest. :-(
June 30th, 2005 at 6:38 pmThere are so many grounds to impeach him on, why has this taken so long I have to ask. Ignoring the evidence like the memo entitled “al queda intends to use airplanes as weapons” should have been grounds enough for impeachment itself…
I’m just glad that more and more americans are finally waking up to the reality of exactly how incompetent and deceitful this administration is.
June 30th, 2005 at 6:39 pmWanting and getting it are two different things….
June 30th, 2005 at 7:06 pmAndros, I’m all for being smart about the politics and picking your battles but I see the current situation as unique and extreme. I think that Lee Powell is exactly right in that no President in the history of this nation is more impeachable than George W. Bush. Perhaps it’s politically improbable, but nothing is impossible. As much as I think the fat lady has started to warm up on our Great Democratic Experiment, I think that the citizens, unified and relentless, have a shot. If we can get organized and let it be known that we DEMAND impeachment (in tremendous numbers), the body politic could not ignore it lest they agree that democracy is dead. We run this country, we pay the bills. Lets light this candle!
June 30th, 2005 at 7:26 pm…please substitute “political leadership” for “body politic” in that last post.
June 30th, 2005 at 7:34 pmI would think it important to not only call for the impeachment of Bush, but of Cheney as well. After all he is the one who, not only runs this administration, but (all the b.s. to contrary not withstanding,) has profited through Haliburton. No intelligent person (neocons are obviously exempted)really believes that he is not going to reap benefits from all the corruption that his company has profited from, unless his heart gives out and he is thereby denied the fruits of these no bid contracts which I am certain he had a hand in arranging.
June 30th, 2005 at 8:12 pmWouldn’t that be “Divine Irony”?
June 30th, 2005 at 8:29 pmJay,
I think the demand for impeachment has to climb many points up from what the zogby poll measured. Also, the INTENSITY of the impeachment attitude has to strengthen. It may change, but I doubt that if most people were asked today whether they’d support a prolonged and bitter fight to impeach Bush would agree to do so.
Even if you had a majority wanting impeachment, the Repubs control Congress, and I can’t see them allowing this to happen…. short of a social revolution!
I have contempt for the current administration, I’m very critical, I talk & write about it, but I’m also a pragmatist and a student of politics. I worked for Kerry’04 in Ohio and experienced first hand the Repubs dirty tricks. I can’t wait for the day they’re booted out of office…
By the way, OK, say that impeaching Bush & Cheney (two people that won’t be running again) is done, do you know who takes over after them?…… (Clue: another Repub)
June 30th, 2005 at 8:46 pmWell, I love my country and I’m sure that all of you guys do too. Does congress love this country?? Do Republicans love this country??? Does Georgy-boy love this country???? I think not! I don’t know, but I saw all that evidence and had the power to impeach him, he would have been gone a long time ago.
June 30th, 2005 at 8:50 pmAndros, I would hope that the pragmatic reaction to what the Bush administration has subjected this country to would be a frantic effort to impeach, but I do agree that the Republican majority stands as a huge hurdle. Social revolution sounds about right. I just caught John Zogby on Keith Olberman’s show and one of the interesting poiints about this impeachment poll was that 25% of Republicans agreed that impeachment would be appropriate if Bush lied us to war (which we all know he and his administration did). So of course the trick is not letting the idea die at the hands of our supine MSM. The fact that such a significant number of Republicans would consider it is, at least, encouraging.
I understand that Dennis Hastert would be next in line, but you have to admit that impeachment would do many things to right the ship. It would give all of us hope that th country is not lost. It would certainly bring us one step closer to ending this ill-gotten war and bringing our soldiers home. Having read some of the opinions posted on this site from foreigners (that the US has been that beacon of hope for so many citizes of the world) I think it would restore much of the credibility as well as our overall standing as a great democracy. Sure it’s wishful thinking, but millions of us are ready for something dramatic. At the very least, it’s being talked about at long last.
I’d love to hear some of the first-hand stories regarding Republican dirty tricks in the runup to the election….when you’ve got some time.

It’s not going to happen until a good number of Republicans believe it should happen. That’s not going to happen. Democrats need to keep pounding the issue of Bush’s honesty to the point that it’s conventional wisdom that he mislead us to war.
OTOH, Democrats also need a good, positive story on withdrawal. I took a shot at writing one. Let me know what you think:

July 1st, 2005 at 9:14 amC’mon guys, this is shockingly great news! Be a little optimistic now…
July 1st, 2005 at 10:14 amWould a President Cheney really be so bad? You know, if he were disgraced and humiliated, effectively neutered, he would become another Gerald Ford, and be defeated for re-election by another Jimmy Carter.
July 1st, 2005 at 11:35 amIt is not surprising that the only majority support for DUHbya is from those same Red-neck Bible-thumping States that elected him. I believe the Dems should start now to get the job done on January 21, 2007. We could have a Dem President two years sooner, or only six years too late
July 1st, 2005 at 11:54 amThese are the same people who believe their backwoods wal mart is the next terrorist target and have never been to the middle east but think they learned all about it from fox news.
July 1st, 2005 at 12:11 pmAbsolutely, Geo. W. Bush should be impeached. Sending our kids to be killed in a war of his own choosing can not be tolerated! Presidents do not have that power! He lied! And he is maintaining that lie in spite of overwhelming evidence that he created the excuse to make war on Iraq. Impeachment now!!! No more killing!!! He has squandered the good will sent to us by the rest of the world after the tower bombings. We have no friends in the world anymore….because of Geo. W. Bush. We must show the world that we do not back his arrogance by impeaching him now!!
July 1st, 2005 at 12:38 pmI don’t think impeachment will work yet. Not while there are troops in harm’s way. No matter how heinous the crimes, Congress will never be able to stand up and impeach a “commander-in-chief.”
How could you defend yourself to the American people that you have the troops best interests in mind when you want to impeach their leader? Congress as a whole doesn’t have the guts. I’m willing to bet that even if we get Democratic control in 2006, it still can’t be done.
The REAL POWER in Congress right now lies in moderate or (be there such a thing) liberal Republicans. They are the only ones who can stand up to the hardline right-wing. And they must, then, have the support and backing of the Democrats.
Think about the shift away from “things are getting better” to the old “it’s hard work” and “we’re not leaving until the job’s done”. “Patience!” AND “We have to stay the course and win the war against terrorism (now headquartered in Iraq).” the President said the other night! And now we have TWO tracks; if things are going wrong on one, we can talk about the other.
Also the phrase “Not on my watch!” should be a chiller. If the war drags out, or troops are stationed permanently in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. and the insurgents are still active, by definition, we are still at war! If Bush can manage to keep troops in harm’s way until the end of his term, he wins. And there are no successors waiting in the wings to reign him in. In fact, I have a hunch, they don’t care who wins 2008. If a Republican, they just keep up the same winning strategy. If a Democrat, they’ll have fun watching him sink.
Depressing! So what realistically could lead to the downfall? Here are a couple of thoughts:
(1) The troops really start to rebel in the field. Not unrealistic - especially if the outsourced, out-dated food, supplies and support keep getting worse. We need more returning vets to speak out and a few more whistle-blowers. If the commander-in-chief isn’t taking care of his troops, he loses his command. It’s a tough act but it might happen in the next year or so.
(2) The American people, by some miracle, REALLY do start getting agitated about what’s being perpetrated in their name!
But we’re talking MASSIVE REVOLT, across the nation. Peaceful would be nice, but we’re probably talking riots akin the the civil rights movement of the 60’s — dogs and fire-hoses, tasers and tear-gas.
(3) The rest of the world isolates the US politically. But that’s pretty far fetched. They can’t wish our downfall economically because we’re too tied together. But if they refuse to go along with us on anything (like Iraq), insist we join the rest of the world (like Kyoto), cancel visits to the US and discourage visits by our ilk (or fob them off on underlings) it could help.
Something has to generate the political will of the “silent majority” in Congress or nothing will happen. The detainee issue might help. The people speaking out will help. God help us we don’t have another attack in the US (I’m almost cynically waiting for one), unless it’s smack into the White House during a cabinet meeting, But I’m not sure even that will get us out of this. It may come down to the “streets and barricades.” ANY IDEAS OUT THERE?
Waiting until 2006 and hopefully getting control of the Senate back on our side might be helpful. But then the Republicans have much more reason to be united. Right now they have reason to divide. Also, if we wait, there’s every chance well end up with a new Chief Justice who would be presiding over the Senate.
AND WE HAVE TO GET THE MEDIA BACK ON THE SIDE OF THE PEOPLE!
July 1st, 2005 at 1:19 pmNikki - I don’t have any lofty ideas as to how to turn this thing around.. but let’s start with Congress.
We have a good shot at winning back Congress in 2006, but we have to be bold and work hard. Go to https://www.moveonpac.org/give/05.html and help defeat Delay, Santorum and Katherine Harris. There are substantial reasons why these people don’t deserve to hold public office, but we need to get the message out.
July 1st, 2005 at 1:54 pmnot only do we need to impeach bush but we need to help skippy reach a million hits (ok, mea culpa, off topic and bad segue)…
listen to skippy the bush kangaroo’s radio interview on wrfl, the univ. of kentucky’s station, by ben carter of bluegrassroots.org.
skippy waxes befuddled on a number of subjects, including but not limited to, a mangled explanation of the downing street memos, ayn rand, putting christ back into christianity, half a masturbation joke, why blogging is important but not as important as the information itself (same goes for the main stream press), gov. ah-nold, black box voting, and the site’s co-bloggers!
help skippy reach a million visitors by his third blogiversary on july 10! click away today!
July 1st, 2005 at 2:56 pmDarth - you are so right!
I found MoveOn last spring and recommend it (even if I am a Republican). The other thing we need to do is praise, commend, slather-up and even give money to ANY member of Congress who stands up against the administration. Be it ever so humble, or even if it’s self-serving, if they take a stand away from the herd, let ‘em know you appreciate them. Start with the “gang of 14.” I’m not sure if that was a good idea or not, but they stood up!
Especially communicate with moderate Republicans, they have the most to lose. They not only get pressure from their own leadership but they stand to lose party funding in their next election. And they suffer the wrath of the administration even more than the Democrats.
There is so little publicity on those who are trying to expose what’s happening. John Conyers Jr., Henry Waxman, Byron Dorgan and several others REALLY shine in the House.
They are trying to provide information on the shenannigans. What a thankless job! They need our support and input from people who can help.
And we need to keep the pressure on local media. Most local outlets have websites, local and national columnists have email addresses. I was talking to a local columnist and he welcomes ideas and information, especially with backup resources. He says it isn’t easy writing 3-6 columns a week. Even important hot topics need fresh angles. So it’s a way we can help. If we get involved, maybe we can get back a media that isn’t scared of its own shadow.
I agree on Santorum, et al. Harris, Ralph Reed in GA, and the Secretary of State in Ohio — all running for office with the full faith and credit of the right wing behind them. DeLay should be forced to resign. And he’s got some new pals that need to talk to the Ethics Committee: Robert Ney and Randy Cunningham.
There are some days when I feel like “duck and cover” should be brought back! It’s coming in from all sides!
July 1st, 2005 at 3:30 pmNow who says Republicans and Democrats can’t see eye-to-eye? Thanks for the honesty Nikki.
July 1st, 2005 at 6:46 pmATTENTION NAY SAYERS! ATTENTION NAY SAYERS!

July 2nd, 2005 at 12:11 amGroup Calls For Bush Impeachment, Cites Poll
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A nationwide group opposed to President Bush’s policies cites a new poll as showing that it is time for a serious national dialogue on the impeachment of Bush and other top officials.
The Zogby International poll found that 42% would support impeachment, while 50% would oppose. Even 25% of Republicans would now support impeaching Bush. Support was never so great for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Shortly prior to his impeachment, an NBC poll found that only 27% favored impeachment while 69% opposed. Even after Clinton admitted lying and was impeached, a USA Today poll found only 36% supported convicting Clinton in the Senate, while 60% opposed.
ImpeachCentral.com is calling on Congress to open investigations of possible crimes committed by top officials by passing a Resolution of Inquiry into the charges that would be the first step to a possible impeachment. Sophie G. de Vries, co-founder of ImpeachCentral.com, noted that “for 42% to support impeachment when public discussion of impeachment has not really even started is astonishing. We expect support to grow substantially once people begin hearing more about it. Even in the Bush states in the South and Midwest, there is a significant fraction of people who would support impeachment.”
It is a felony to mislead Congress or any federal investigators such as the 9/11 Commission. “If Bush misled Congress when he gave them the State of the Union speech, he committed a serious impeachable offense,” said Bob Fertik, president of Democrats.com, an affiliate of ImpeachCentral.com. “There is ample evidence suggesting that he should have known that what he said was not true.”
Richard M. Mathews, the Southern California Director of ImpeachCentral.com, said, “We impeached Clinton for lying about sex. It seems that Bush has lied about national security.” Echoing O.J. Simpson’s lawyer, Johnny Cochran, he added, “If Bush lied in the speech, we must impeach.”
“The Downing Street Memo corroborates statements made by ‘deep throats’ with access inside the White House, including Richard Clarke, Paul O’Neill, and Bob Woodward,” according to Mathews. “A credible case has been made that laws were broken by Bush and his top people. To block an investigation of these felony charges is to cover-up criminal actions. As we learned from Watergate, the cover-up can be as dangerous as the original crime.”
The so-called Downing Street Memo was written by the head of British intelligence. It is the official minutes of a British Prime Minster’s meeting before the Iraq War, and it reports on meetings with White House officials. The memo declared, “Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.”
As we move into the Independence Day holiday, the group noted the similarities to our Founding Fathers’ fight against King George III. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that “when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
“We now face a fight against President George II,” says de Vries. “Protecting the laws of the country is as patriotic as you can get.”
“If Nixon taught us anything,” said, Fertik, “it is that the President is not above the law. Congress wrote these laws for all of us.”
ImpeachCentral.com is a nationwide organization of thousands of activists dedicated to the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for violating the laws of the United States. While the Bush administration has violated the Constitution on numerous occasions, the group is focusing on the lies they told the American people and Congress which led the country into the disastrous Iraq War. These lies were confirmed when the Times of London published the secret Downing Street Memo.

Please . . . you liberals are becoming more pathetic every day. “Kerry lost because of the Christians!” - “Karl Rove is an evil genius . . . that’s why Bush won!” - “people who live in red states are stupid!”
It’s no wonder John Kerry is sitting at home with his dick in his hand rather than sitting in the white house. The hysterics and exagerations of the left repelled the middle. Oh sure . . . . like typical liberals, you refuse to take any responsibility for your loss. But face it . . . you LOST. You lost because of your own stupidity. I mean, my god, you lost against Bush . . . he’s a dope . . . how much you must have sucked in your strategy and execution to lose against Bush.
You guys are the losers of all time losers!!!! And you won’t learn . . . you keep adhering to your self-indulgent loser ways - you will lose again, because you won’t learn from your mistakes. You won’t even acknowledge responsibility for your loss. You want Bush to acknowledge his mistakes in Iraq . . . why? He won - you lost. How ’bout acknowledging that you couldn’t even win against a dope!! I feel sorry for you . . .a little.
July 5th, 2005 at 7:43 pmIts difficult to be optimistic about the obvious. What I find most interesting is that 41 percent in favor of clinton vrs 42 in favor of Bush. And this is with a 6 year constant compaign by the right to “get” Clinton, vrs a free ride by the press. If the Press were doing its job, I think the Bush would be hoping for a 42%. The press has given the administration a free ride on the following subjects: (hopefully this will change)..
Jeff Gannon’s sexcapades in the white house (Roves special friend??? perhaps)
Illegal War
Misleading the American public about the connection between Iraw and 9/11, a shameful offense.
Leaking the name of a CIA agent to press
etc etc
Non of these things have been given the attention they deserve by the media. What incentive do they have? If they report anything negative against this administration, they lose their access to “news”.
This administration talks alot about the founding fathers. Each of the FF must rolling in their graves. The irony, ohhhh the irony..
Suggestion for the Democrats in 2008. Run on a campaign of bring decency back into the white house. Looking very forward to how this Jeff gannon thing plays out. There are very few in the white house who could have authorized his access.
Back to being pessimistic. Do I expect the media to do their jobs…. NO. Don’t be surprised if we do get 4 more years of bush in 2008, and all that that implies.
July 6th, 2005 at 9:39 amJim: You forgot to mention that Clinton admitted lying to a grand jury (after his DNA was found on Monica’s dress) and to date their is no evidence President Bush misled the nation. In God we trust , all others must have proof.
July 7th, 2005 at 7:15 pm[…] Already, 42% of Americans believe that Bush should be impeached if (a charge for which the evidence is plentiful, and which is already the belief of the majority) he lied about the reasons for going to war. That’s about as many as tell pollsters that the President is doing a good job, and more than support Congress. Times is tough for the Bushists. So, as PGL notes and as we have already seen, all that can be done is to hope that irrelevent (and, as far as I care to tell, baseless) smears of Joseph Wilson can distract and confuse - which was, after all, the whole point of the White House’s leaking of Plame’s identity in the first place. It can’t be allowed to work. […]
July 11th, 2005 at 6:54 pmTo those liberals who believe Bush should be impeached for “lying” about Iraq’s WMD, do you believe Bill Clinton should be sanctioned in any way for “lying” to the American people about Iraq’s WMD, the threat Iraq posed to the U.S., and Iraq’s ties to al Qaeda? Would you support retroactive impeachment as a means to demonstrate your call for impeaching Bush is motivated by justice rather than partisan politics?

August 7th, 2005 at 3:19 pmWhy? Why did our government under the Bush Administration failed the people of the USA AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA? — I strongly believe that we should start an impeachment proceedings to get him out of office FOR NOT ACTING QUICK ENOUGH TO SAVE LIVES IF A DOCTOR WAITED FOUR DAYS TO ADMINISTER CARE, WE WOULD CONSIDER THAT AN ACT OF COMMITING MURDER/MAN SLAUGHTER AND PUT HIM IN JAIL. THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA HAD THAT POWER IN HIS HANDS TO ADMINISTER IMMEDIATE CARE TO THE DYING PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THIS HURRICANE AND DID NOTHING. HE SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE AND BE SUBJECTED TO CRIMINAL CHARGES FOR THIS FAILURE. THIS is the only way Mr. Bush would get the message that he must protect the people of USA FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WILL SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO FUTURE PRESIDENTS. WE ARE CRIMINIALLY CHARGING OTHER PRESIDENTS OF DIFFERENT NATIONS FOR MISUSE OF POWER AND COMMITING WRONGFULLY ACTS UPON THEIR PEOPLE. HOW CAN WE LOOK THESE PRESIDENTS OF OTHER NATIONS IN THE FACE AND SAY TO THEM IT IS ALLRIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY TO TREAT THEIR PEOPLE WRONGLY BUT YOU CANNOT. WE MUST DO THE SAME TO OUR PRESIDENT - HOLD HIM ACCOUNTIBLE FOR THIS MISUSE OF POWER AND WRONGFULLY ACT UPON OUR PEOPLE.
September 6th, 2005 at 7:52 amoh and i want to know what saddam has on that goober that we never get to hear in an interview–or hear anything about –I WANT TO SEE INTERVIEWS ON TV WITH SADDAM –I WANT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY–to bad bush is a dog –they shoot dogs 4 less
September 14th, 2005 at 3:56 pmCheryl:
You’re assigining blame to the wrong person. Mayor Nagin had 2,000+ buses at his disposal to use to evacuate the people of NOLA. That’s what NOLA’s evacuation plan called for. However, those buses were left sitting idle in parking lots that eventually became flooded. At 50 people per bus, Nagin could have evacuated 100,000 people BEFORE Katrina hit. Let’s not blame Bush for the corruption and incompetence found amongst Democrats in Louisiana.
September 15th, 2005 at 10:00 amwhere do you start. The war that never should have been. the relief that never came in time for thousands. the people that are out of work because the economy is dying before our eyes. a president that won’t recognize and the failure to help his own people. the price of gas thats causing our children to shiver in the classrooms.I have a newspaper in front of me and the jobs that are listed require at least 4 years of education or training in the field of nursing. This was a automotive town with 7000 workers at its best. now we see 1500 and possible closing of plants. wake up before its to late.
December 20th, 2005 at 4:37 pmTo Kevin Groenhagen,
December 22nd, 2005 at 7:04 pmClinton didn’t take this country into a full scale invasion of Iraq. No, he shouldn’t be impeached for that reason. Last but not least, the nation of Iraq will be better off of the new government ends up better than Saddam’s… I see no evidence that suports this happening, the new Shia led majority will want their revenge on the Sunnis, Muquada al-Sadar and Sistani have just been waiting for the US troops to leave. Then the real Iraq government will take control-it will mirroe the Iraninan government and it will hat the US like Saddam’s regime only dreamed of. THAT is why we were against going to war-That is why Clinton never attacked. Athens8
I meant it will mirror the Iranian government and it will hate the US like Saddam’s regime never dreamed of.
December 22nd, 2005 at 7:06 pmIt doesn’t take much to see that many things are wrong wtih the leadership of this country. I don’t understand why there is even a debate over the need for Impeachment of Bush and Cheney. It seems pretty clear that there was a terrible mistake in allowing Bush to be Pres. a secong time. America just didn’t get enough abuse the first time around? I have never liked Bush or anything that he seems to stand for as a man. Recently I read a newspaper article that led me to an online Petition To Repatriate Geronimo’s Skull. I don’t see how anyone could read this and not know that the Bush family line is just sick. People like this should not be running our country. Impeach Bush!
January 3rd, 2006 at 10:50 pmOK, Impeach Bush! He lied! He is a sucker!
He is all that!
You sound like a bunch of frustrated losers.
I hear “smart” liberals talk about how dumb Bush is -compared to their smart selves, presumably.
But you don’t realise this:
1 Folk wanted to impeach Clinton for a clear cut case of outright lying- backed by indubitable evidence.
Contrast that to
2 Bush believed Iraq was a threat, and had WMD’s etc which turned out not to be true.
Are you going to aduce dna evidence that he sincerely knew otherwise but deliberately misled? - I guess smart
liberals should be able to adduce such evidence.
3. NSA taps’s legality is debatable.
Consider the fact that this are warrants on (possible) citizens communicating with al-qeada operatives (presumably) not citizens.
In the that case one- and that is just one of several- line of argument is this:
“We were tapping the communication of the al-qaeda operative. It is the foreing party whose communication we are interested in”
The laws you folk are brandishing about are laws about “domestic” spying. These are not “domestic” taps in a very technical sense of the word.
It is more of an “international” tap
Do my smart “higher-than-Bush’s-IQ-possesing” liberals see the fact that this is not a “clear-cut-matter-of-fact” issue of wrong doing as in the Clinton case? Don’t tell me Clinton’s sexual escapades do not warrant all the hullabaloo because that is not the argument here. Argument is about how you “smart” liberals think this is a forgone conclusion a la impeachment of GW.
January 7th, 2006 at 8:20 pmTo quote a recent draft for impeachment:
1. Providing misinformation to the United Nations Security Council, Congress, and the American people overstating the offensive capabilities of Iraq, including weapons of mass destruction, as justification for military action against Iraq.
2. Repeatedly manipulating the sentiments of the American people by erroneously linking Iraq with the terrorist attacks of September 11th by Al-Qaeda.
3. Repeatedly claiming that satellite photos of sites in Iraq depicted factories for weapons of mass destruction in contradiction with the results of ground inspections by United Nations teams.
4. Stating that “Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa” in his State of the Union Address after being told by the CIA that this was untrue and that the supporting documents were forged.
5. Influencing, manipulating and distorting intelligence related to Iraq with the intention of using that intelligence to support his goal of invading Iraq.
6. Invading Iraq with United States military forces.
7. Sacrificing the lives of thousands of American soldiers.
8. Killing tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians and conscripts.
9. Rejecting peaceful resolution by acts of UN compliance by Saddam Hussein.
10. Violating the Geneva Convention by abducting and transporting human beings to prisons in foreign countries where they can be subjected to inhumane treatment.
Need any more reasons?
