Happy Birthday President Bush

Happy Birthday President Bush

Today is President Bush’s 59th birthday. You’re probably wondering what the President would like to receive on this grand occassion. So, based on what Bush has said in the past, here are his birthday “wishes”:

A Magic Wand

Bush: “I wish I could simply wave a magic wand and lower gas prices tomorrow.” [4/20/05]

More Free Time to Workout

Bush: “I wish I had time for a workout.” [11/13/03]

Questions Written Out In Advance

Bush: “I wish you’d have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it.” [4/13/04]

More Time to Fish

Bush: “Gosh, I wish we were fishing.” [7/30/04]

More Love For One Another

Bush: “I like to remind people, you know, that — I wish government could make people love one another. I would sign the piece of legislation.” [10/8/03]

A War With A Timetable

Bush: “I wish I could tell you that — what the timetable is going to be.” [4/29/02]

A War Without Troops

Bush: “You know, I wish I never had to commit troops.” [10/11/04]

A War Without a President

Bush: “I wish I wasn’t the war President. Who in the heck wants to be a war President? I don’t.” [8/6/04]

    And then there’s this:

“I’m a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasn’t true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and it’s important for us to deal with them.”

I don’t have a link or date, but my personal favorite is the “I wish I were a dictator, it would be easier” comment.

Who gets to spank him? He’s been a very naughty little boy.

I’ll skip Georgie’s birthday party and instead celebrate the Dalai Lama’s birthday, a much more positive result of the union of sperm and egg.

I wish he had plenty of time to fish and work out also. Maybe he could just resign.

  8. Kyle says:

Incidentally, I wish all of those things for the big lug too (except maybe for the questions written out beforehand). I wish he weren’t a wartime president, too. I wish he didn’t sent troops to war. Heck, I even wish he had more time to fish, if that would mean him not running the country.

It’s amazing how we all want the same things.

  9. Joe Reilly says:

Oh, let him have the questions submitted beforehand. Even when he’s supposedly prepared, he makes a mockery of the language. He’s living out a childhood fantasy and we need not rain on his parade. I’m convinced that the only reason his dad entered politics was to ensure that George Jr. got to be President. Who could refuse an 8-year-old George asking daddy if he could be President of the United States someday? It’s really too bad that he still thinks he’s blowing up army men in the backyard.

Ha! Great list! Don’t you think it’s funny that Bush is spending the week of his birthday with the leaders of the richest eight nations in the world? Talk about fishing for gifts.

  11. Ted says:

This is great. I wish he’d stay in Gleneagles and not come back.

  12. Ben says:

Here’s another one: “I wish I could bring back your loved one to replace the hole in your heart.” [June/2004]

This comes from an interview with Cindy Sheehan last week on Democracy Now!, though the words were directed to Sheehan’s oldest daughter, who replied to Bush, “So do we.” Sheehan’s son Casey was killed in Iraq on 04/04/04. Her description of her personal encounter with the “War president” is chilling: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/29/1434216

  13. Jane E. Schneider says:

Ben, thanks for the link to the Cindy Sheehan interview. I had seen her on CSpan at John Conyers’ forum, but I had not heard or read about her family’s meeting with Bush. That man is absolutely dispicable and inhuman, with no spark of empathy whatsoever. And to call Cindy “Mom” throughout their visit! Does Bush EVER think about ANYTHING he says or does?

It’s his birthday? I’d like to buy him a drink.

    Whiskey. A nice tall one.

  15. Susan says:

I’m just glad to know that he did what he does best on his birthday: FALL OFF HIS BIKE!

  16. Ben says:

Jane, you’re quite welcome. Cindy Sheehan has appeared more and more on my radar lately. Each time, I hear a little more of her family’s story. It’s sad but I’m glad she’s out there telling it and that she’s actually getting some air time. CNN even had her on for a few minutes last week after Bush’s speech. I just found this blog of sorts where Cindy posts: http://sacramentofordemocracy.org/?q=tracker/171

A month ago DN also interviewed Minnesota State Senator Becky Lourey. I was impressed at how calm and clear she was in the interview given that her son had just died in Iraq two weeks priot. She too was against the war from the start: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/06/1328251

While it’s great that these people are telling their stories, I wish we (more importantly, the rest of America) would hear more from people who once supported the invasion but have since changed their minds because that is the realization that more people will need to have before our occupation will end. I think it is inevitible, but as long as the most vocal people calling for withdrawal are the ones who were against the war from the start, the apologists will just continue to dismiss them because they were always against it. I mean, how long can people continue to just reject the word “quagmire” out of hand? One year? Two? Twelve? And how are we going to feel after god knows how many more Americans and Iraqis have died. It’s just nuts.
