It’s Not the Crime, It’s The Cover-Up

Hello, Washington Press Corps. What is the thirty year rule that has defined every White House scandal since Watergate? It is not the crime, it’s the cover-up that gets you in trouble. And this White House has been actively covering up Karl Rove’s role in the Plame leak since 2003.

Karl Rove and Scott McClellan have been lying to you for two years about Rove’s involvement in the Plame leak. Okay? Lying. For two years.

Scott McClellan said “the president knows that Karl Rove wasn’t involved.” Not that “the president knows Karl Rove told Matt Cooper that Ambassador Wilson’s wife was a CIA agent working on weapons of mass destruction but slyly didn’t tell Cooper Plame’s name” — he said “the president knows that Karl Rove wasn’t involved.” That is not true.

Scott McClellan said “There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, brought to our attention to suggest any White House involvement.” He said it was a “ridiculous suggestion” to say that Rove had any involvement in the leak.

In 2003, Karl Rove denied to ABC news about even having any knowledge about the leak. Later he told CNN that “I didn’t know her name and didn’t leak her name.”

Those are statements that would make Lanny Davis blush. Are you really going to let Rove get away with that?

Leave the legalities of whether not actually saying Plame’s name saves Karl Rove from having committed a crime to Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.

In the meantime — do your part and hold the White House accountable for the fact that they have actively tried to cover up Rove’s role in this matter for two years.

Fitzgerald is a respected prosecutor. I think we should wait to see what he concludes before freaking out.

It is a matter of definition that all Confidential material is Classified but not all Classified material is Confidential. The information Rove provided was not Confidential as his lawer states. It was of a higher classification, probably Secret.

It’s easy to be anxious about having BushCo exposed, prosecuted, tried, shamed, and thrown from office.

I thought/hoped that exposing the lies around invading Iraq would be enough. Then it was no-bid contracts with Cheney/Halliburton. Then it was DSM.

Is this real blood in the water? Hope springs eternal.

the press’ll get their dander up right about the time of a new Democratic president.

  5. Bush Jr. says:

When are liberals going to start to use a new playbook? Like enlightening us with their grand vision instead of trying to take down the current administration. Probably because there just isn’t one. Same old, same old. They may have been able to bring down Nixon, but there is not a snowball’s chance in hell, they will bring down Bush.

    Try staying on topic.

Do you disagree that the White House’s previous statements about Rove’s involvement are incongruous with reality? Do you disagree that the White house has been covering up Rove’s involvement for the past two years? If you disagree on bot these points, what exactly do you disagree with?

These are the only topics relevant to this forum. Your entire post is nothing but a red herring to attempt to goad people into discussing an irrelevant topic and ignore the issue at hand.

I eagerly await your response to my questions.

    Perhaps a better titie:

“It’s Not **JUST** the Crime, It’s The Cover-Up”

  8. Bush Jr. says:

What exactly are you hoping to accomplish?

  9. Bush Jr. says:

I believe that Carl Rove will emerge from these accusations free of charges. This is only an attempt to bring down one of the men responsible for the defeat of John Kerry last year and who will play a key role in the election of the next president!

And I also believe that women can make their breasts grow larger by coating them with chocolate and dipping them into a tureen of pumpkin soup.

    Thanks for proving that:

    1. You cannot answer a simple question
    2. You are irrelevant to this discussion

Thanks for being more straightforward than Scott McClellan.

    To Everyone: Perspective!
Remember when someone in the White House lied back in the ’90s? About illicit sex? How persecuted that person was! And compare it to what some in the White House are lying about today…national security! And mum’s the word???? Jeez! Come on!

A crime I can accept, because there are ways justice can work her objective ways, but Double Standard has no rules…

When is the American public going to wise up and put an end to this fiasco referred to as the “Bush Administration?â€? This administration has lied to the public about WMD, it then lied about Hussein’s connections to al Qaeda, it has plunged the country into an almost insurmountable deficit while preaching fiscal responsibility, it is destroying Social Security nest eggs for American workers who have toiled all their lives just to get by, and it has not lived up to one single promise it made to its evangelical base. Worse yet, it has willingly associated itself with the likes of Karl Rove, an individual who seems to be proud of his unethical political games he has been playing since he was the president of his College Republican organization. More over, it would not be surprising to find out that it was Karl Rove who coached GW on how to use libelous individuals and organizations—like Swiftvote—to slander his political opponents.

I am not a Clinton-lover by any means and I am a registered Republican, but I do think it is high time the American public should take a stand and impeach those responsible for our current state of the union. I am talking about those who push through bad policy while using “Remember 9/11! as a crutch (or a jar of Vaseline, which ever you prefer). At least Clinton’s liaisons with Lewinski did not send 1,300+ soldiers to their death, bankrupt the poorest people in our nation, nor did it take away any individual’s personal liberties as do the Patriot Act and “free speech zones at presidential presentations. While what he did may not epitomize the wisest of personal choices, but it definitely did not destroy the entire country’s credibility with the governments of other nations.

I know my rant has been slightly off topic, but just remember who the administration’s lead political advisor is…
