Graham: Rove Critics Should “Shut Up”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had these kind words to share last night on Hannity & Colmes:

If you can prove a case against Karl Rove, let the legal system do it, otherwise just shut up, because you’re ruining a guy’s reputation before anything has happened.

This is how far we’ve come. Rove’s defenders are arguing that, as long as Rove hasn’t been convicted of a crime, he shouldn’t be subject to any criticism. Rove lied to the public when he said he had no involvement or knowledge of the leak. His critics aren’t ruining Rove’s reputation. Rove took care of that himself.

wasn’t he a case manager for impeachment of a President over a blow job?

  2. Jenny says:

It would be cool if the Bush administration applied the same reasoning to the prisoners at Guantanomo. In fact, I bet those guys would be happy without the shutting-up part: “If you can prove a case against me, let the legal system do it, otherwise just let me out of this cell, because you’ve imprisoned me for four years illegally.”

  3. Keith Patrick says:

Well, that’s a quote to keep in mind next time O’Reilly or Hannity calls for the head of Joran Van Der Sloot or the Surinam brothers.

  4. Jay says:

Hey Lindsey, what are you going to do about it….take your ball and go home? Oh how the hypocrites howl when their guy gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar of treason and corruption. Don’t you love how the rightwing talking point now is that the Dems are playing politics. A. What was being played when Plame was outed? B. Whaaaaaaa….too fvcking bad.

  5. SaniNation says:

What about the obvious response to an ignorant comment like this — someone ruined the Plame’s LIVES! Stop whining about someone piddly reputation.

  6. JD says:

Gee, Karl, the closeted gay, self-loathing homophobe, has been ruining reputations his entire political life. Fair game, eh?

  7. bnye says:

I hear you Senator Graham. Just let the legal system try this case. I’ll let Micheal Schiavo know how you feel.

  8. Darth Filibustrous says:

Lindsay Graham is a Republican, so this is just expected of him..

The absolute outrage is when the likes of Bob Woodward, David Gergen and other CNN supposedly non-partisan “experts” join Fox’s “no-big-deal” army..

And the idiot Wolf Blitzer lets Mehlman slide when his spin suddenly skids into stonewall.. unbelievable.

    Are they BLIND ?!!

  9. burro says:

The Karmic Wheel grinds relentlessly on. Whether it flattens Turdblossom completely or not, he’s earned The Full Weight of The Wheel’s Mighty Mass. Roadkill on The Great Cosmic Highway of Life!! Excellent.

Ummm, Senator Graham, you might want to step out of the way there.

  10. jip says:

Does Chubsey-Ubsey know how to play golf?

  11. portly says:

Graham is, of course, that sneering, sniveling little pissant that embodied the Republican slime machine carrying out the Rethugs campaign against Bill Clinton. Haven’t liked that self-righteous little twit ever since…never will…what goes around, comes around you numb-nutted little man.

  12. John S. says:

Since when are Republicans worried about ruining someone’s reputation?

Oh, since the one facing ruin is one of their own…

I missed that caveat in Graham’s snarl.

  13. bastid says:

Lindsey Graham should just STFU. He sounds like somebody’s grandma, or the Church Lady. Frankly, it’s embarassing.

  14. Ron says:

That’s politics. I remember Senator Lugar commenting about the farming business when it was against the ropes sometime back in the late eighties. He said,”That’s farming.” As if it was no big deal that farmers were having their share of problems and that was too bad for them. Senator Lugar had lots of compassion for farmers.

Well, too bad for Karl Rove. If he would have kept his mouth shut, he wouldn’t be in the predicament.

I’d defend his life, but not his politics. He’s on his own.

Fair is fair. All is fair in love and war.

Those high and mighty Republicans like to point with pride and view with alarm.

    Harumph

  15. Stephan says:

I think Rove’s reputation speaks for itself. There’s not much to spoil.

  16. GF says:

If Lindsey Graham doesn’t like hearing criticism about Rove, she can stuff toilet paper in her ears and get her facsist ass out of the USA.

  17. The Northeast Dilemma says:

This is wonderful. While Bush and Republicans talk about matters that mean something to people – like the falling deficit and the Supreme Court – you guys continue to waste your time attacking Rove.

I don’t know how to thank you all. You’re fighting an issue you will NEVER win! lol! But stop there – really.

  18. GF says:

Yeah, we’re wasting time showing the world the the White House does nothing but lie its ass off with a straight face. That’s never relevant. Especially when the president is a democrat – right?

  19. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – please stop. You people nominated the biggest liar in the history of politics last year. John Kerry was the biggest phony and partisan liar I have ever seen.

GF – the reason why you are losing is because you hatred for President Bush has seeped into the right. You wanna get in the mud – FINE. But, don’t cry when we come down on you like a ton of bricks. You asked for it!

  20. Susan says:

    Yeah Dilemma,

Why is Graham and the entire country talking about Plamegate?

Duh, cause we got Rove by the balls and lovin every minute of it!

I’m so happy I could pee my pants right here!

  21. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Susan – suit yourself. Bush is rubber, liberals are glue, whatever he seems to say, bounces of him and sticks to you.

People – I would get a platform other than hatred for the President. Conservatives will destroy you otherwise.

  22. GF says:

Don’t tell me the “reason I’m doing something” that’s the problem with YOU people. You can’t handle a topic so you start going off on sideways motivations in hopes people will forget about it, it’s not that important. Your punk Rove belongs in prison, get used to it.

As for Kerry – wise up. Bush would piss on you if you were in range.

Ton of bricks? :) You? LOL And why haven’t you signed up for your tour of duty in Iraq yet, yellophant?

  23. Susan says:

    Keep dreaming Dilemma,

You’ve lost and the entire country knows it.

Or are you trying to convince me that the majority of Americans approve of Bushco?

    LOL!

Your threats mean nothing, we’re not afraid of sissy’s.

Go to Iraq if you feel your so tough!

    And stop your whining already.

  24. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – how do you know I haven’t.

I am done arguing with people who are hellbent on self destruction. Rove did nothing wrong and you’re chasing a story without all the facts, sort of like Operation Fortunate Son.

Remember your hateful actions when Darth Bader Ginsberg and John Paul Stevens step down from the Court. I’m liking Janice Rogers Brown myself. lol!!!

  25. GF says:

“Rove did nothing wrong” – HA!! Good luck selling that lame horse.

As for “how do you know?” How about stating your unit, dates of your tour of duty, and anything else that might stop people from laughing at your baloney?

Here’s a helpful link, you who’d rather OTHER people fight your wars, support your idiot president, believe the nonstop CRAP coming out of the mouth of Scott (Me-Love-Gannon-Long-Time) McClellan and think everything’s hunky dory while the walls come crashing down. Your Bush hero isn’t worth a spit in his own eye.

Here’s a helpful link for you, chicken hawk.

  26. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – get some therapy. You’ll need it.

I really have to get back to work. I’m reading different profiles of the next Supreme Court justice – lol!!!!

    Liberal stupidity knows no bounds.

  27. Susan says:

Good bye sissy, (dilemma) you were never wanted here anyway.

Now go learn how to tie your own shoes.

  28. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Bye Susan – I guess it was only a matter of time before liberals resort to name calling. I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re fat!!!! You certainly stupid!

  29. Nareast Duh lamo says:

Karl is an American hero, and everything he does, he does for you. Stop playing the plame game. naaa

  30. GF says:

What’s that? You say Rove committed treason and you’re too chicken to fight the war you support, but apparently unethical enough to suggest that you did?

    Yeah, I knew that already.

I also knew you didn’t really leave – you just didn’t want to answer the questions about your OWN lies now. ;)

  31. PMF says:

If you’re not with us, you’re against us. If you don’t support judicial nominees, you’re not a christian. Now:

If you can prove a case against Karl Rove, let the legal system do it, otherwise just shut up, because you’re ruining a guy’s reputation before anything has happened.

Rove and the White House Press Secretary have lied to the American people. Let’s see…who’s reputation is it we’re ruining? The outed liar? Or the outed liar’s Press Secretary???

I’m against you I suppose, and I’m an Independent that voted for Bush (well, once)…But, I HATE liars. Especially liars that are supposedly working for me.

  32. Narc says:

Susan – suit yourself. Bush is rubber, liberals are glue, whatever he seems to say, bounces of him and sticks to you.

    Is this noron serious?

People – I would get a platform other than hatred for the President. Conservatives will destroy you otherwise.

    Comment by The Northeast Dilemma

Bullshit! Hate works and sells! You have been peddling hatred of liberals for years. Guess what? It’s time t reap what you have sown. We don’t just hate the president, we hate all of you, too. The whole freaking world does! Get a clue you delusional twit.

  33. Klatuu says:

The Earth would stand still if just one of these guys would admit to any wrongdoing.

  34. cynical ex-hippie says:

The trouble with folks like Dilemma. We say, “Don’t reveal the identity of CIA agents to our enemies.” They hear, “hate hate hate.” We say, “Terrorists are coming from Pakistan, not Iraq,” they hear, “hate hate hate.” We say, “Don’t give another $2 trillion in debt to our children,” they reply, “You just hate Bush.”

In the marketplace of ideas, Republicans are flooding the market with junk bonds. Very profitable in the short term, devestating in the long run.

  35. Susan says:

    Hey dilemma,
We are not sissy’s so name calling does not hurt us.

I’m glad to know that name calling hurts you though.

Now get to Iraq and meet some liberals fighting your war and see if you can handle the names your fellow soldiers will be calling you.

    Chicken.

  36. Wills says:

The right seems to think activism is the same as hatred unless it is them doing it. I do not have time in my life for hatred – it takes too much energy. Unfortunately the only way that the justice department Graham is putting so much trust in will act is if they are forced to act. That means Dems voicing their opinions-loudly. Freedom of speech has always been the American way. Of course the government has worked better when the people running it are representing all Americans.

  37. kindness says:

    All too common,

Bushies say something outrageous, over the top and untrue. We call them on it and tell them what we think of their ideas and them. They then think that gives them high moral ground to go about acting superior.

Trolls. Get a clue. There is a big karmic slate somewhere. What are you gonna do when you are confronted with your own words later?

  38. Susan says:

    I agree with you Wills.

We are haters when it was Graham that told us to shut up in the first place.

It’s okay for O’Rielly and the likes of him to hate but us “activists” should just shut up and crawl in hole.

    Who are the true “haters”?

Republicans, they have no problem killing innocent people.
They have no problem lying with every breath they exhale.

The list of their hatred and crimes against humanity goes on and on.

  39. John S. says:

I have yet to see any conservative post something of relevance to any of the discussions here…

    Here’s to hoping.

  40. progressive and proud says:

It looks like Northeast has to come to our sandbox to play becuase his is so dull. And I mean no disrespect, it just seems very boring over there. They repeat the same few phrases constantly. Bush himself said, “sometimes you have to say things over and over before people will believe them.” That really scares me. It is tantamount to brainwashing. Over at redstate, they have quickly come up with their “talking points.” It seems as though they are extremely clever with word games, but offer no solutions to current adminstrative problems. I would think, Northeast, that you would be over there helping that cause by coming up some new lines. Now I start thinking that neocons are coming here to get a handle on how to spin Rove into a good guy. You know, test the waters.

You, Northeast, have to know that you will not be changing minds here. You must certainly know that we will not agree with your viewpoint that this administration is righteous. You have to be here only to argue. Why?

I keep asking this question – has the current administration EVER made any mistake? If so, what? If this administration has never made any mistakes, please explain. I really don’t want to hear that the only mistake was not firing Wilson long ago – that is just too easy and evasive. I just want an honest answer. I mean, no one can go 5 years with absolutely no mistakes or missteps whatsoever; that is just common sense. I need to know what will be admitted to.

I finish with a couple of questions solely for my personal benefit. Why do you hate liberal thinking so? What scares/infuriates you? I am not being sarcastic, I am confused as to how we as Americans have become such a divided nation. This is rather upsetting to me and I want to understand what has gotten us here. I was raised liberal when it wasn’t a bad word. I believe in everybody getting their fair share and the rich supporting the poor. The idea of Americans taking care of each other makes good sense to me. If you have MORE than you need in life, why wouldn’t you want to help others? It seems so selfish to only give to others if you want to. Why not mandate some unselfish behavior. We are all on this nutty planet together. I am so confused that it makes my heart sick. I just cannot figure our why neocons hate us so darn much.

I just heard about Santorum and am so shocked that my mouth is still hanging open. And people vote for him. Do they hate gay people so much? Why? I need some answers and since you are over here in our playground, would you answer them for me? Let me see your viewpoint. Have we done something to make you hate us?

One final question, didn’t Bush Sr. fire Karl Rove long ago for questionable practices?

  41. Justin Orndorff says:

Rove’s credibilty is not a recent issue. Keep in mind, Rove was fired in 1992 by Bush I for leaking info to a journalist in attempts to smear Mosbacher during Bush’s re-election campaign.

  42. The Northeast Dilemma says:

    I’m back!!!

    Here’s to relevance:

Rove did NOT break the law as written. Joe Wilson has been discredited by a bipartisan senate committee. The notion that the Bush Admin should let someone dishonest attack them for political gain without responding is a nice try, but not reality in politics. AND here is the kicker people – Rove is NOT the target of the investigation. Shouldn’t you wait before you go on the attack? Judith Miller could have been working with a partisan operative on the left – wouldn’t that be something.

All of this being said, I beg you to stop. Are you that politically tone deaf that you think this story has legs? It will NEVER have legs with the GOP controlling the govt. AND the GOP will continue to control the govt as long liberals insist on these witch hunts.

I cannot re-debate the whole weapons issue – I simply refuse to. If you believe Bush lied and Kerry and Clinton didn’t, there’s nothing more to say. I will say this – Republicans will use left-wing invective to scare people away from voting for Democrats. Everything you people say is being noted – slandering the troops like Durbin did, Hillary’s third grade attacks and Howie’s screams are all being noted. AND we will use these baseless attacks to choke you with in the next election.

In all seriousness, Republicans rule. Take your own advice and Move on at least until the next election or you will continue to lose miserably.

  43. Darth Filibustrous says:

Have faith, Susan et al. The Empire will fall under its own weight. It’s inevitable. The force is with the rebellion.

Thanks, but no thanks. Most folks have no desire to see a bird brained, birds-eye view of the inside of their own rectum.

  47. progressive and proud says:

Northeast, I actually wanted to hear it from you, not more talking points and preconceived ideas. I want to hear from a human and not a billboard.

    Why do you hate us?

  48. Nareast Duh Lamo says:

If only you guys were as good at running things as you are at covering your own asses.

Hear that everyone? YOU ARE ALL ON REPORT and this WILL BE on your PERMANENT RECORD.
I PLACE YOU ON TRIPLE SECRET PROBATION.

  49. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Narc – you just proved my point. Do yourself a favor and think outside the box or resign to being a minority party forever.

When did liberals become so close minded?

  50. Narc says:

Narc – you just proved my point. Do yourself a favor and think outside the box or resign to being a minority party forever.

You are the one with your head up yer ass. My head is already outside that box. Need a crowbar?

  51. The Northeast Dilemma says:

Progressive – I don’t hate you, per say. I hate what you’ve done to this country. I don’t agree with you on politics. AND I’ll debate the issues, but I won’t sit back and watch liberals try to destroy everyone in the Bush Administration.

  52. Narc says:

I should amend that. I think he has his head up Chimpy’s ass. Maybe he has two heads. They are all freaks and mutants.

  53. Narc says:

but I won’t sit back and watch liberals try to destroy everyone in the Bush Administration.

LMA0! Like you have a choice!

  54. progressive and proud says:

Northeast – that was the scariest site I have ever seen and answered none of the questions that I posed.

  55. Narc says:

    per say? L0L!

Go away you goober! Bring back the editors, at least they were literate.

  56. The Northeast Dilemma says:

My site – scary! I should have warned you it’s not very friendly to liberals, but I would argue it’s no further right than site is left.

  57. progressive and proud says:

NE, what have we done to this country?

  58. Narc says:

  59. Narc says:

    Try per se

Did you know that was french?

    Goob!

  60. The Northeast Dilemma says:

P & P – there is not enough time in the day to go over that.

I’ll start with domestics – you have used the Supreme Court to take away debate in this country. You’re only for free speech if it seeks to deingrate our traditions, rather than celebrate them. (I.E. funding piss Christ art free speech, ok, 10 commandment displays bad). You have used the Courts to push a humanistic religion that most people disagree with.

  61. Narc says:

Shhh! Actually it’s latin, but let him think it’s french and he won’t try and sound intelligent a spell a fool out of himself.

  62. Narc says:

    deingrate our traditions

  63. Narc says:

  64. Narc says:

    I’ll start with domestics

He’ll start with domestics and work his way up through skilled labor and then professionals. Finally arriving at trust fund Republicans. Thanks for the laughs, goob. You are the best parody troll I’ve seen all week.

  65. Nareast Duh Lamo says:

I prefer the elephant dung Mother Mary piece myself.

  66. progressive and proud says:

What tradition do you mean? The ten commandments aren’t everyone’s tradition. If there is only one atheist or, conversely, only one catholic in the country, he/she should still have a right to be heard and respected, even if they are the only one to feel that way. Don’t we have to let the KKK exist so we all can?

How have we taken away debate? Who did that and when? We are debating now because we have free speech and don’t have to answer to the King or the Pope.

Help me, would you define Humanistic?

  67. Narc says:

I’ve got an idea Goob. It’s a free country. Why don’t you move? 0ut of it.

  68. Narc says:

Has anyone come into your church, or whatever cult you clowns are calling a church, and told you squat? N0! So STFU!

  69. GF says:

I see Dilemma is “back at work” now that he thinks he has successfully ducked the question about his OWN ethics. :) Which remains unanswered! What a surprise for someone who is openly attempting to defend Karl Rove!

    Conservative point of view =
    http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm

  70. The Northeast Dilemma says:

I disagree with you on the 10 commandments – if a Kentucky courthouse wants to display it, the Supreme Court has no business telling them they can’t. (Especially when they have their own!!)

Taking away debate through the Court – what liberals can’t legislate (which is pretty much everything), they’ve gotten the Courts to take care of.

Humanism might not be the best word. I think liberals have see most things as morally relevant. Too much gray. You’re entitled to that view, you’re not entitled to force that on people in South Dakota.

  71. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – I don’t understand what you want to debate.

Narc – why would I leave America. I love it and I love our President and the current govt!

  72. Nareast Duh Lamo says:

OUR? I thought I was us. 49% YOU. 51% US. OH.

  73. GF says:

Rove was trying to kill a story critical of the Bush Iraq policy—he was trying to undermine Ambassador Joe Wilson’s credibility. Now we know that Joe Wilson was telling the truth about Iraq and Rove did not want the world to know that. The best case scenario is that Rove acted recklessly; at worst, what he did was malicious. Either way, the result of his actions undermined our national security and he must either resign or be fired.

  74. GF says:

Dilemma – I want you to explain to the forum why it’s ok for you to SUGGEST YOU DEFENDED THIS COUNTRY when you DIDN’T.

  75. Susan says:

Dilemma can keep dreaming but that wont change the fact that Patrick Fitzgerald will tie the outing to the DSM.

What a brilliant move. Start at the top. Take out “Bushie’s Brain” (what little there is of it) and let Ramsey Clark take down the rest.

    Brilliant.

Patrick Fitzgerald will go down in history as the Best Prosecuter America has ever employed.

  76. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – Joe Wilson is a liar. The senate report which was bipartisan said as much. He was attacking Bush in hopes of helping the Democrats. We still don’t know who actually leaked her name so I’m willing to reserve judgment before we gas the guy.

I never said I was “DEFENDED THIS COUNTRY” – I said how do you know I didn’t. AND I didn’t realize that only the military were allowed opinions.

  77. ChristianLibrul says:

Following Graham’s example, FAUXNEWS, amtalkingheadradio will shut down, Coultergeist will cancel all appearances, recall all her books. No word yet from Falwell, Robertson or Dobson.

  78. Narc says:

Narc – why would I leave America. I love it and I love our President and the current govt!

Fine. Stay. We will warm up a prison cell for the both of you. All those cells will be freed up when we legalize medical marijuana. Can’t let them go to waste.

  79. GF says:

Dilemma, is that the kind of backwards nonsensical logic you employ in saying that Karl Rove isn’t a criminal who committed treason against his country for political revenge?

If so, suddenly I understand why you persist in defending this putz.

  80. The Northeast Dilemma says:

GF – you are making no sense. The only person I know in DC that has committed treason recently is Dick Durbin.

  81. GF says:

Dilemma’s using the same semantic nonsense to try to dig his own sorry ass out of trouble HERE that Rove is using to defend HIS sorry ass.

Do you know the difference between right and wrong? I would not be inclined to believe that you do from your shameful conduct here, attempting to tell people you WEREN’T trying to SUGGEST THAT YOU would actually put your own ass on the line – right there in comment #25 – to defend this sham of a war and the rotten scum you haplessly defend.

Don’t piss on me and tell me it’s raining.

  82. Narc says:

And Joe Wilson has no right to complain. And I think people like Tim Russert and the others, who gave this guy such a free ride and all the media, they’re the ones to be shot, not Karl Rove. Listen, maybe Karl Rove was not perfect. We live in an imperfect world. And I give him credit for having the guts.

Rep. King on Joe Scamborough last nite.

Buy guns. It’s going to be open season on conservatives soon.

  83. Narc says:

Lynching is too good for these pukes.

  84. Narc says:

The only person I know in DC that has committed treason recently is Dick Durbin.

Comment by The Northeast Dilemma —

I’ll agree with that. The next spinless DIN0 that apologizes to you pukes will get lynched by us.

  85. Susan says:

    Right on GF!

Seems that Dilemma is in bed with Rove.

Tell us Dilemma how big is it?

  86. kevin smith says:

To: all you democrat’s, liberal’s and progressive’s on this site, your fight a losing battle if you think that these right winger’s will ever think that this bush administration lie’s, corrupt’s, smear’s and breake the law time and time again, They dont wanna hear it all they want is too keep their power,no matter what CIA agent life is put in danger no matter, who’s hand’s WMD,s fall into, their power is the only concern and they prove that to you on a daily basis. They got caughtred handed so they are deverting attention form the tresonis’t rove and blamming wilson and his wife. They claim wilson had political motive’s, O.K. i’ll take the bait, was that a reason to out his wife and commit treason, in their eye’s yes it’s it, just look at some of the post’s on this site, they will defend these criminals to the end, making their action’s criminal as well. I really feel bad for these people, republican’s use to hold a set set of value’s which they lived and died by, but their leadership over the year’s brainwashed them into closed minded, follow the party line no matter what “sheepel”. I was watching c-span yesterday mornning and a bush supporter call in and said, that he support’s george bush, but if there was any wrong doing by this white house bush should rearange his entire cabinet, Now that’s what a republican use to look like, better take note’s. THANK YOU.

  87. progressive and proud says:

NE, Santorum recently used a Hitler reference as well. What is your stance on Mr. Santorum?

  88. John S. says:

I have still yet to see any conservative post something of relevance to any of the discussions here…

But I do aprreciate Northeast (perhaps Editors reincarnated? *L*) posting just the sort of mindless drivel that I have reluctantly come to expect from Bush apologists.

I encourage him – and others like him – to keep posting their brand of spewage, just so we can see the sort of “stuff” they are made of…

Baseless assertions, a constant rhetorical attack on anyone who doesn’t toe their line and a failure to respond to legitimate questions abound. They take their cues from the top.

  89. The Northeast Dilemma says:

P & P – Santorum didn’t slander the troops and doesn’t hate America like Durbin. I like him, actually.

    Yeah, Santorum only hates Boston.

Try posting something that isn’t an outright lie, or merely your own baseless opinion for a change. Just so you knwo, these do not count as valid intellectual points:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re fat!!!! You certainly stupid! (Can the bar even be lowered?)

Liberal stupidity knows no bounds.(I guess so.)

Joe Wilson has been discredited by a bipartisan senate committee.(Blatant lie. The committee’s findings were inconclusive. Look it up.)

AND I’ll debate the issues, but I won’t sit back and watch liberals try to destroy everyone in the Bush Administration.(They destroy themselves. And you may want to look up the term ‘debate’, since you have yet to do anything that even remotely resembles it.)

I’ll start with domestics – you have used the Supreme Court to take away debate in this country.(A court stacked with conservative appointees? Nice try.)

The only person I know in DC that has committed treason recently is Dick Durbin.(By what acceptable definition of treason? The one in your ‘mind’ doesn’t count.)

    Keep up the good work.

  96. GF says:

9/11? Inconclusive. Supposedly there were 19 hijackers, at least 15 of which were Saudi nationals. But I wouldn’t go so far as to blame Saudi Arabia.

It appears there are many unanswered questions about 9/11, including 3 steel support buildings which collapsed for apparently no reason. So we don’t have enough information to lay claim to a particular entity being responsible for 9/11.

I did find it interesting, however, that in less than a day, we had all 19 “suspected hikackers” by name – and that several of those names, it turned out, belonged to living people in the middle east.

One of the most peculiar traditions, if that is what it is (and not a tactic) is the genteelhabit of believing and saying that prominent people must be first in line among equals when it comes time to hand out the benefit of a doubt concerning wrongdoings. Monied men, socially well-connected malefactors, and international profiteers and go-betweens get more than their share of reasonable doubt, and in closer matches, such as the one here involving a
former ambassador and his CIA agent wife versus the POTUS and company, the preponderance of evidence matters less than the finely wrought hairsplitting over semantics: how could anyone be so base as to accuse a political strategist for the Bush clan, near-royalty by their own claim, of any perfidy? How could I doubt the veracity of a Senate committee like so many others, which has once again sen fit to be inconclusive on a matter of fact? No political shenanigans there, certainly. th ecourage of the Senate, esp. when led by the Honorable Lee Hamilton or one of his kind, is legendary. In order to achieve this aim, this political party has to keep much of the American populace preoccupied. How do they do this? Simple – they DIVIDE AND CONQUER. They spread race hatred, homophobia and xenophobia, stir up animosity among religious sects, call attention to trivial issues (flag burning, etc.) – all in a desperate attempt to keep DOLTS like “Dilemma” occupied. While “Dilemma” fulminates about “liberals,” Halliburton signs yet another lucrative contract with the armed forces. While “Dilemma” rants about “deviants,” arms manufacturers make millions (and innocents perish). Meanwhile, “Dilemma” goes further and further into debt, his family grows ever more dysfunctional, and his waistline continues to expand.

There is no “conservative viewpoint.” “Conservatism” is a diversion, and little else. The time has come for “Dilemma” and those like him to deal with empirical reality.

You could say that he was an "expert witness" as is Rove, et al. To see Karl Rove as a whistleblower is a far cry from the calls to dismiss him and lambaste the man as a traitor -- but I still would like answers...]

REVIEW & OUTLOOK – Karl Rove, Whistleblower He told the truth about Joe Wilson. http://opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110006955

    Wednesday, July 13, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT

Democrats and most of the Beltway press corps are baying for Karl Rove’s head over his role in exposing a case of CIA nepotism involving Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame. On the contrary, we’d say the White House political guru deserves a prize–perhaps the next iteration of the “Truth-Telling” award that The Nation magazine bestowed upon Mr. Wilson before the Senate Intelligence Committee exposed him as a fraud.

For Mr. Rove is turning out to be the real “whistleblower” in this whole sorry pseudo-scandal. He’s the one who warned Time’s Matthew Cooper and other reporters to be wary of Mr. Wilson’s credibility. He’s the one who told the press the truth that Mr. Wilson had been recommended for the CIA consulting gig by his wife, not by Vice President Dick Cheney as Mr. Wilson was asserting on the airwaves. In short, Mr. Rove provided important background so Americans could understand that Mr. Wilson wasn’t a whistleblower but was a partisan trying to discredit the Iraq War in an election campaign. Thank you, Mr. Rove.

Media chants aside, there’s no evidence that Mr. Rove broke any laws in telling reporters that Ms. Plame may have played a role in her husband’s selection for a 2002 mission to investigate reports that Iraq was seeking uranium ore in Niger. To be prosecuted under the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act, Mr. Rove would had to have deliberately and maliciously exposed Ms. Plame knowing that she was an undercover agent and using information he’d obtained in an official capacity. But it appears Mr. Rove didn’t even know Ms. Plame’s name and had only heard about her work at Langley from other journalists.

On the “no underlying crime” point, moreover, no less than the New York Times and Washington Post now agree. So do the 36 major news organizations that filed a legal brief in March aimed at keeping Mr. Cooper and the New York Times’s Judith Miller out of jail.
“While an investigation of the leak was justified, it is far from clear–at least on the public record–that a crime took place,” the Post noted the other day. Granted the media have come a bit late to this understanding, and then only to protect their own, but the logic of their argument is that Mr. Rove did nothing wrong either.

The same can’t be said for Mr. Wilson, who first “outed” himself as a CIA consultant in a melodramatic New York Times op-ed in July 2003. At the time he claimed to have thoroughly debunked the Iraq-Niger yellowcake uranium connection that President Bush had mentioned in his now famous “16 words” on the subject in that year’s State of the Union address.

Mr. Wilson also vehemently denied it when columnist Robert Novak first reported that his wife had played a role in selecting him for the Niger mission. He promptly signed up as adviser to the Kerry campaign and was feted almost everywhere in the media, including repeat appearances on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and a photo spread (with Valerie) in Vanity Fair.

But his day in the political sun was short-lived. The bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report last July cited the note that Ms. Plame had sent recommending her husband for the Niger mission. “Interviews and documents provided to the Committee indicate that his wife, a CPD [Counterproliferation Division] employee, suggested his name for the trip,” said the report.
The same bipartisan report also pointed out that the forged documents Mr. Wilson claimed to have discredited hadn’t even entered intelligence channels until eight months after his trip. And it said the CIA interpreted the information he provided in his debrief as mildly supportive of the suspicion that Iraq had been seeking uranium in Niger.

About the same time, another inquiry headed by Britain’s Lord Butler delivered its own verdict on the 16 words: “We conclude also that the statement in President Bush’s State of the Union Address of 28 January 2003 that ‘The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa’ was well-founded.”

In short, Joe Wilson hadn’t told the truth about what he’d discovered in Africa, how he’d discovered it, what he’d told the CIA about it, or even why he was sent on the mission. The media and the Kerry campaign promptly abandoned him, though the former never did give as much prominence to his debunking as they did to his original accusations. But if anyone can remember another public figure so entirely and thoroughly discredited, let us know.

If there’s any scandal at all here, it is that this entire episode has been allowed to waste so much government time and media attention, not to mention inspire a “special counsel” probe. The Bush Administration is also guilty on this count, since it went along with the appointment of prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in an election year in order to punt the issue down the road. But now Mr. Fitzgerald has become an unguided missile, holding reporters in contempt for not disclosing their sources even as it becomes clearer all the time that no underlying crime was at issue.

As for the press corps, rather than calling for Mr. Rove to be fired, they ought to be grateful to him for telling the truth.

[So, how do I argue with that? Is Mr. Wilson merely a publicity hound? Should Rove just press on, see if this media firestorm #277 in a series will simply blow over? Should Miss Miller just be let out of jail and subsequently be able to sue the pants off of Mr. Fitzgerald?

    ...TO BE CONTINUED, OF COURSE!]

  106. Kandiman says:

Rove will never be prosecuted. He’ll be pardoned by Bush. (Just like Tricky Dick’s pardon by Ford)

Before the pardon, Rove will officially resign from the White House but will still quietly provide Bush with political advice. Therefore his influence never goes away. He’ll be a quick Texas phone call away. “What do ahhh do KR?”

Rove is like herpes, we have him forever.

Anybody who believes Rove will do hard time can buy my bridge in Brooklyn. Hey, it’s cheap. Really.

  110. cynical ex-hippie says:

    Okay we’ll shut up now.

    ;)

OMG I just read the WSJ article. Let me see if I have this straight: Karl Rove is embroiled in a case of nepotism, as our hero the whistleblower, being so passionately against nepotism that he would risk his career to expose it.

Also, apparently, Saddam sought yellowcake from Niger. That was true after all. And those forged documents? Why the CIA didn’t even use them until after they were discredited. It was all investigated. If you can’t trust a guy named Lord Butler, who can you trust?

Meanwhile, Wilson was under the delusion that he was on a mission from Cheney. That must have drove his wife crazy, and she used her CIA connections to send him off to Niger. (note to anyone with ex-wife problems, be grateful!)

And the press should also be grateful for what he has done. Ungrateful press!

Now, children, let’s have no more curiosity about this bizarre cover-up.

Not a damn thing is going to happen to Rove. Downing street memo is what we CANNOT forget and keep on the Front burner people. Bush should and needs to be Impeached for the Iraq war.

  113. John S. says:

    Mike D:

Please tell us John, what is it you find relevant?

One need only refer to the topic of this thread, which is a Republican (Graham) wanting desperately to stifle critics.

Is there anything that you would deem relevant that disagrees with your orthodoxy?

If it has to do with the topic at hand, of course. Your insinuation otherwise is completely false, and thus far you have not offered a rationale argument as to why you think Graham’s comments are justified. Mostly, you fall in step with him or comment about other people’s comments:

It’s due to guys like you who cannot find relevency in anything but their own bs.

One more thing: To all Lefties: SHUT-UP!

Again, your opinion of my relevance is inconsequential and only further proves that your comments are without a doubt, of no relevance.

  114. John S. says:

    Sorry, that’s RATIONAL argument.

  115. Susan says:

    Pam R. #111,

This outing was a part of the “fixing of intelligence”…This investigation is in complete connection with the DSM.

Ramsey Clark is taking down Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Ashcroft at votetoimpeach.org.

Fitzgerald is taking down Rove with the charge of treason.

Today is a beautiful and wonderful day. The connection has been made.

BushCo is done, put a fork in it. I promise you.

  116. narc says:

Not a damn thing is going to happen to Rove. Downing street memo is what we CANNOT forget and keep on the Front burner people. Bush should and needs to be Impeached for the Iraq war.

It’s all the same issue. Conspiracy to falsify intelligence as justification for an illegal war. A war they knew was illegal without false intelligence. That is the crime, the conspiracy, no other crimes need to be committed or even proven.

United States v. Shabani, 513 U.S. 10 (1994) was a decision by the United States Supreme Court. The Court ruled: “…Congress intended to adopt the common law definition of conspiracy, which does not make the doing of any act other than the act of conspiring a condition of liability…” This ruling indicated that conspiracy alone can be criminal.

  120. The Oracle says:

    Just wondering.

Wasn’t it last year that some leaker in the Bush administration revealed that British intelligence was using a Pakistani double agent, who was an Al Qaeda computer expert in Pakistan, to track possible Al Qaeda sleeper cells around the world?

And when this Pakistani double agent’s identity was prematurely disclosed by some Bush loudmouth, British intelligence lost a very valuable intelligence resource which could have proved significant in interdicting any planned terrorist attacks, like the one last week in London?

Therefore, in matters of intelligence leaks, I believe the Bush administration has twice pulled stunts that have increased the chances that any planned Al Qaeda attacks will succeed. Or at least the two times that we are aware of…the Valerie Plame outing as a covert CIA agent and the outing of the Pakistani double agent as a secret British intelligence asset.

Just think if British intelligence had had several more months or even a year to mine that asset. Maybe that asset, through his e-mail messages to possible undercover Al Qaeda operatives, would have helped uncover the four Yorkshire Pakistanis before they got a chance to attack.

I think President Bush owes British citizens an apology.

And, to my knowledge, which is very limited I admit, I don’t think anyone has ever been named as the person responsible for the security breach over the Pakistani double agent. However, I believe it is long past time that we all found out.

Maybe the same person who outed Valerie Plame also outed the Pakistani double agent who was helping British intelligence track down possible religious terrorists before they had a chance to strike. Naww, that would be too much of a coincidence. Hmmmmm.

As Harry (Give ‘em hell) Truman said, “I just tell the truth, and they think it’s hell.” Amen.

That’s the Rush Limbaugh Approach to Dialogue: Shut up, shut up, shut up!
It’s all part of the (since November, 2000) Republican thuggery ‘tude, adopted by all the sissy chickenhawks as some kind of macho posturing, as opposed, of course, to joining the military. This appeals especially to young college and high school punks who couldn’t do a chin-up if they tried. Well, those and the ones who can and use that to physically intimidate others.
They see themselves as the “Hunks” and the Dems as the “Average Joes”, awaiting total humiliation.
Part of the drive to totally eliminate the Democratic Party, to silence it.
Some Democrat needs to use language in the same way, no prissy “After you, Alphonse” terms. Just reply, “Well, Sen. Graham, why don’t YOU just shut up?”

Sorry, as puerile as that sounds, that is what they understand.

  126. Laura says:

Joe Wilson’s a liar? You mean Saddam Husein was trying to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger?

  127. Dan Alter says:

Abbe Buck publicist. “the press ought to be grateful for him(Mr. Rove) for telling the truth.” Fascinating. He cites a discredited Bitish report that Saddam was seeking uranium from Niger, and then calls Rove a hero for slandering Ambassador Wilson while endangeing his wife and her intelligence network.

I served in the USMC, Mr. Rove is a piece of self-serving gargbage, who has endanged the people he has taken an oath to protect.

‘deliemma’ implies he served, never answers anyone who diusagrees with his facts, and just calls ‘Liberals” names.

There is one thing about all true statements on any subject; the facts contained within it or implied are ACCURATE, you liars.

As for liberals, A CRTICISM: Why don’t you try looking up the definition of a Political Liberal. It is not a hard word to defend. Its only seven words long; Concise Oxford English Dictionary “for democracy and the abolition of privelege”.

By inspection, Deliemma and Abbe Buck are not for either, are they? They are against democracy for that implies free, open to all, critical, debate conducted by people who respect the FACTS, and who seek the truth whereever the debate leads.

These people are pathological liars who only seek power over others.

‘abolition of privelege” implies no special breaks for ‘themselves’.

Now my ‘liberal’ friends, being willing to hear all sides of an arguement, only means you let these pathological creeps express their vicious lies so you can expose them for what they are; enemies of democracy and seekers of special priveleges for themselves = a new aristocracy.

  130. Dave G says:

Fellow Progressives: You have to excuse the conservatives. They are people to watch Faux news because they believe it is fair and balanced. They listen to O-Reilly, et. al. and believe every word they say. They don’t listen to NPR because they have been told it is “liberal” so, if they listened, they wouldn’t believe a word. They have apparently defined “liberal media” to mean anyone that reports anything critical of the government, if the government is run by republicans. They believe that the most important constitutional amendment is the 2nd (right to bear arms). They believe the NRA is out to protect that right, and is not just a front for the gun industry. They do not understand the 1st amendment, especially regarding free press. They don’t understand, or are not informed about, the implications of the recent FCC rulings that have allowed the big media companies to own as many outlets as they want. (Big media companies owned and operated by repubs, of course.) They still claim the media is liberal, even though the MSM is controlled by repubs (big business). They don’t understand that a “free press” means COMPLETELY independent of and uninfluenced by the government. They believe that the MSM is “free”. They can see that the MSM is current muzzled by the government.

Many of them are Christians. They have been taught to follow blindly their leaders (the Bible, Bush). They believe that the Earth is only ~6000 years old. They believe that the theory of evolution is completely contrary to the creation story in Genesis. Even though Genesis gives no details whatsoever, we should not be curious enough to try learn more about how God went about making the Earth and us. They believe we should just shut up and accept things the way we are told (by uneducated men 2000 years ago, or by Republican politicians today).

How can we argue with people who are not willing to listen to alternative points of view or learn different things that might conflict with their current view?

Saudi’s fly the planes into the buildings where a Bush reletive is involved in the security of said buildings… There is eveidence that “we” knew before-hand but somehow that doesn’t serve Bush admin purpose… The Bin Laden family is gathered and given safe passage out of the USA because “we don’t want them to become involved in this unfortunate situation” (Saudi Amb. to the USA’s words)… Instead of hunting down Osama, we turn and wage a war on a country that had nothing to do with WTC… The Bushies court the corporate and we end up with fixed drug prices, no jobs, a tax break for companies that go offshore, seemingly open borders, China wants to buy a major resouce and the Chairman for Int’l Advisory Board (who doubles as a lobbyist (J. C. Langdon Jr.)) and the WH is quiet… and a government that nobody in his/her right mind would trust with a pair of scissors. Lies, deception, gerrymandering, vote fixing… all good conservative republican ideals and morals. Pardon me while I try to wipe the taste from my mouth. Someone here stated it correctly… “Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining”. Northeast is in need of a severe reality check… and just by coincidence there’s one on the way.

  135. Jenesys says:

The President himself said he would fire anyone in his administration who had leaked Plame’s name. So, obviously even the President thinks it was wrong, theoretically. Since it has been proven that Karl Rove has done this, he has done something wrong. I always wonder how conservatives can sleep at night when all day long they are spinning and lying insisting the sky is green, then denying it, denying they said that, telling everyone they misunderstood what they said. I know I’d have a hard time sleeping if I had to constantly come up with ludicrous lies and deceptions. I have always wondered if they really believe the bullsh** they are pedaling or if they are conciously aware of what they are doing and are just reprehensible human beings.

  136. dschatt777 says:

exactly – these Bushies aren’t the conservatives they claim to be – they’re radicals. I really wish the true conservatives, in the mold of Eisenhower and Goldwater, would re-take the Republican party.

  137. Dave G says:

I think this is Bush’s plan:

I think all of Bush’s wars are related to gaining control over Middle Eastern oil reserves. Many people have accepted that we invaded Afghanistan for the right reasons, to oust the Taliban. I also am glad to see them gone. However, I’ve read some things that suggest Bush & Co had other motives.

Apparently, Clinton stopped a deal between Unocal (I think) and the Taliban to run a pipeline across Afghanistan to carry Caspian region oil. Apparently, the deal was blocked because of the Taliban’s human rights abuses. Can you imagine how angry the oil guys were? They had to elect a president who would do their bidding. Bush has proven to be the perfect guy.

Then, remember, Bush offered the Taliban $50M in aid, or something like that. I think it was spring 2001. I remember wondering why we would give these scoundrels any money. I don’t know if the aid ever went out. Then, after the Afghan war started, I read something about a book written by a couple of French guys. (Not in the US mainstream media. The French suck, after all.) In the book, they wrote about an oil pipeline deal between Bush and the Taliban that fell through. Bush told them either they take the deal or we will invade, or some such more inflamatory words. They told Bush to shove it. A couple of months later, 9/11 happened.

So, what do we do? We say that Osama was responsible, so we invaded Afghanistan where the Taliban were protecting him. A few months later, I read an article (from Britain?) that reported a new Unocal pipeline across Afghanistan. I have read nothing about this since. (Notice also that the Bushies never mention oil when they talk about these wars. How ridiculous to think that oil has nothing to do with the actions of this administration.)

Two years later we invade Iraq, which has the second largest known oil reserves.

Then, I saw a recent interview of Kenneth Timmerman on the Daily Show. He has written a book, stating that Osama met with the Iranians to plan the 9/11 attacks. I suspect that the Bushies had the same intelligence.

So, to sum up. Iran has lots of oil also. The US has hated Iran for a long time. Now, we have more reason to hate Iran. Iran is not an easy target. Iraq and Afganistan are easy targets, relatively. We are closing in on Iran, and if we can overtake them, we will have control over a large portion of Middle Eastern oil. The plan is coming together nicely. Eggcellent!

    Whattya think?

  138. Vinilo Suave says:

Fascism = Corporate wealth + Authoritarian government. All those other tags mislead us. And if you multiply that kind of rule with theocratic power it is not hard to see what the architects and engineers aim to build–a “shining city on the hill.” Of course, it will be a gated community and well patrolled by private security officers, and out here, beyond the walls the color of our skin will not matter at all, nor will the death of children. Jesus weeps.

  139. Dave G says:

Don’t get me started on fascism. The right wing in the US has redefined the word. O-Reilly even called the ACLU fascist. What an idiot! It’s the same old ploy by the Repugs. Accuse your opponents of doing the same thing you are doing. The Democrats are too timid, or supposedly, have too much decorum, to call the Repugs fascist and liars, but the Repugs are not afraid to say whatever they want. Then, if the Dems come back and call the Repugs the fascists they are, it looks like a childish “me too” kind of move. The Repugs are all over it. The Dems just need to start telling the truth about the bastards, up front and first. There is nothing left to lose at this point.

What do I think? I think this empire will go the way of past empires, only much more quickly. Damn shame we could not learn from the past and use our good fortune for better purposes.
Don’t forget this is not a movie or a sporting event. You live here and this is your future.

  142. Judy says:

I agree with Lindsey and echo his frustration although I do nto think anyone should shut up. I just think that we need to wait to destroy a man until we see who is really at fault. There was an original leak and it probably was not Mr. Rove. It has been reported that Mr. Bolton was a consistant source for Judith Miller. He could be the leak. We may be scapegoating Mr. Rove. The Grand Jury has also Questioned Mr. Libby, the Vice President’s Chief assistant.

There is an investigation going on. We need to see if there is an indictment filed and what crime it is for reguarding Mr. Rove. It may be only for perjury which should still be pubished, but it isnot the same as leaking classified information.

Let’s see what happens. I want the legal process to work. And with Mr. Fitzgerald as the prosecutor it will because he has already done wonders in Illinois. There have been several indictments against high ranmkii8ng officials in Mayor Daley’s administration. My point: If Rove or anyone else is wrong Fitzgerald will us and then we call for heads. Lindsey will support ouster if the legal process demands it. I have no reason to believe otherwise.

  143. Judy says:

Yes, He was an impeachment manager. I do think if there were enough evidence and a reason he would be supportive of impeachmetn for this president. He doesn’t like being lied to anymore than any of us do.
