Karl Rove, source of the leak. The phony weapons of mass destruction. The cost and duration of the war in Iraq. The over-hyped Social Security crisis. The price tag of the Medicare legislation. The list of White House deceptions grows longer with each passing day. And it’s catching up to them.
According to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, only 41 percent of Americans say they think President Bush is “honest and straightforward” (that’s down nine points since just January.)
At the same time, people who say they don’t think he’s honest or trustworthy rose nine points, up to 45 per cent.
You really can’t fool all the people all the time.
Add to the list:
– tort reform will lower medical costs,
– bankruptcy reform will ensure personal fiscal responsibility,
– repealing the “death tax” with save the family farm.
Lies. Lies. And more lies.
July 14th, 2005 at 9:54 amI have never found Bush to be honest or trustworthy starting back in 2000. Hopefully this is indicating the pendelum swing back to a progressive government.
I have to say also that if it wasn’t for bush’s family connections he would have been a swing shift assistant manager at a taco bell, and a not so trustworthy one.
July 14th, 2005 at 10:00 amI wouldn’t trust any of them as far as I could throw them.
July 14th, 2005 at 10:23 amAnd related to the theft of Social Security I think all
anyone has to do is ask themselves one question.
What makes you think this a##hole wants to help YOU?
He is not your friend, and he doesn’t need your vote.
Getting ever so close to that ~30% who will stand by their man no matter how much he screws ‘em. Bush has got to be getting worried – this re-flare up of the Plame case could not have come at a worse time for him (Downing Street Memos get play, controversy over which justice he’s going to pick to replace O’Connor, London gets bombed making his flypaper theory look like so much doggie-doo, no new missing white women to distract the media, sharks showing an initial propensity to bite suddenly falling by the wayside, etc.)
The sharks in the media love a good controversy, and the White House has thrown them about 3 in the last couple of months (if you include O’Connor’s replacement, which I do). A focus on the controversies around a President rarely make that President look good, and when the controversies relate to national security, well that makes things so much worse for the President. ( I mean, its not like he was messing around with an intern or something – we’re at war after all).
He may still bounce back – he may come out of this smelling like a rose. I suppose it depends on what happens to Rove and company when the Grand Jury ends in October.
July 14th, 2005 at 10:24 amStill, anything in the 40s is high enough support for Bush. It also depends on how the questions of a poll are phrased, the sample used, etc. Bush wasn’t credible way before the last election, and it was for everyone to see–provided they used some basic critical skills and a little time look around for the information.
The polls before the election showed very bad numbers for the incumbent president…. on direction of country, consumer confidence, economy, whether to re-elect, Iraq policy, approval rating, etc, etc, etc. We all know what happened.
What I’m saying is that there is a hard-core conservative base and a larger-than-appropriate block of voters who are easily swayed by impressions, emotions, fear, etc. These are the same people who after having two very different candidates last Fall couldn’t make up their minds until that Tuesday…. We’ll see in 2006 whether the voters will keep the Republican one-party rule in Congress.
Of course, we must keep hammering Bush on all fronts, but it’s still amazing that he commands such numbers! In any other country in the West, he’d be drawing in the 20s, if that!
July 14th, 2005 at 10:25 amPretty ironic that Bush and Brain claim to be victims of a smear campaign, when they’ve honed the craft.
To the end of exponentially increasing on this awareness, let’s not forget: While Bush could have been a statesman traveling to meet with world leaders to discuss handling the surge in international terrorism and it’s causes, he was instead bouncing around the US flapping his gums about privatizing social security, so that his corporate cronies can have more chips to toss back and forth in the markets.
July 14th, 2005 at 10:26 amBeware of anyone who has a “We gotta kill it, to save it” mentality. Anything that out of balance has got to boomerang back on you.
July 14th, 2005 at 11:39 amDealing with BushCo is like dealing with the mob. And who liked dealing with the mob?
July 14th, 2005 at 11:43 amCan we start feeling superior to red state yokels again? Or is it too soon?
July 14th, 2005 at 12:19 pmRemember the Pinky and the Brain cartoons? That’s Bush and Rove.
July 14th, 2005 at 12:20 pmHang on those to polls gang – that’s all you got! Meanwhile, Republicans have every branch of govt snugly under control.
Liberalism is dying and you fools are leading the charge!
July 14th, 2005 at 1:02 pmAmerica was founded on liberal values, some of which are: democratic government, freedom of choice, thought & action, and equal opportunity!
Those ignoramuses who are happy that liberalism is dying because of Republican gains are only supporting those who attack traditional American values and want to turn the country back to the Dark Ages.
Fool is the one who isn’t aware of the consequences of his actions.

July 14th, 2005 at 1:23 pmI’ll feed you today . How bout some monkeychow? You are nothing but a sucker front-runner, aligning yourself with what you think is the winner(today). 1 1/2% is not enough to be that uppity. Bet you gain nothing out this admin.
Andros – partial birth abortion, 24/7 slandering of our military over Gitmo, removing anything remotely religious (unless it denigrates it) from the public sphere, and Kelo ARE NOT what this country was founded on.
Tyrone 51% is larger than the 49% Clinton got (and higher turnout). You people keep drinking the kool aid – the GOP thanks you!! lol!!!
July 14th, 2005 at 1:29 pmtnd
July 14th, 2005 at 1:36 pmSerious question. Is this your job? or are you just bone idle?
Tyrone – I find liberals entertaining. You bring it on yourselves. You folks are not dealing in reality and it amuses me.
July 14th, 2005 at 1:43 pmAnd you are some paragon of thought? You are one sorry deluded person. We’ll all have a party the day they finally 86 you.
July 14th, 2005 at 2:02 pmTND
51% would be a winning number, if it wasn’t gained vote tampering.
Go suck an egg.
July 14th, 2005 at 2:09 pmNED:
Meanwhile, Republicans have every branch of govt snugly under control.
Absolute power isn’t what this country was founded on, either. Not that I would expect you to know that, though, since every post of yours is a constant re-write of facts and history.
You folks are not dealing in reality and it amuses me.
We feel the same way. Please keep entertaining us with your “emlightened” posts.
July 14th, 2005 at 2:27 pmJohn S. – our country was founded on elections, something liberals have trouble winning. But, go ahead and propogate the lie that Bush stole the election Spudge boy. It just makes you look more extreme.
Not a single post has a rewrite of fact and history. Today, I posted about how Republicans control the govt. They do – it’s a fact. Yesterday, I said Rove was not the target of the investigation and it has yet to come out that he broke the law. Another fact.
July 14th, 2005 at 2:41 pmGet connected N.E.D.
July 14th, 2005 at 2:46 pmHere’s a fact for ya.
Repubs. are now seeing Rove as a credibility problem for
your Dictator.
We know how the GOP won the last election with control of the E vote machines and rigged to count in Ohio and Florida. I said a year ago that Bush was trying to make a lier out Abe about fooling people. I’m hoping Bush is a dead duck and not just a lame duck after the 06 election. It’s up to the voters to get this mess back on track. Hope springs eternal.
July 14th, 2005 at 3:16 pmKeith – the AP (who hates America) had to travel to Arkansas to get a Republican on record asking Rove to resign. Wait til all the facts are out – less egg on your face that way.
July 14th, 2005 at 3:44 pmMan, that Northeast Dilemma guy can really marshall his facts to make a convincing argument. I’m changing my registration to Republican tomorrow!
July 14th, 2005 at 3:57 pmYes, let’s all vote republican so we can be with the winners.
July 14th, 2005 at 4:15 pmNED:
Never a truthful word from you…
But, go ahead and propogate the lie that Bush stole the election Spudge boy.
Where pray tell did I even remotely suggest or insinuate such a thing? Yor canned responses are showing…
Not a single post has a rewrite of fact and history.
Do you remember these little gems?
Rove did NOT break the law as written. This has yet to be proven one way or another, despite your “feeling” otherwise.
Joe Wilson has been discredited by a bipartisan senate committee. The committee’s findings were inconclusive, as Wolf Blitzer had to repeatedly point out to Ken Mehlman the other day.
You have used the Supreme Court to take away debate in this country. Blatant lie.
That’s three posts of yours that clearly show otherwise. Care to keep playing this little game with me?
July 14th, 2005 at 4:37 pmI retract my statement of Never a truthful word from you. That should read as Rarely a truthful word from you.
Just in case you decide to get hung up on semantics.
July 14th, 2005 at 4:40 pmJohn S – someone else said Bush stole the election – spudge boy did. The senate committee did conclude that Wilson was NOT sent by VP Cheney (or JR Ewing as he’s known to liberals).
AND saying the Supreme Court took away debate in this country is my opinion. I believe that and so does at least 40% of this country. I hate what they’ve done, but I appreciate the election gains we made.
Coming soon from Barbara Bush: “You know Matt, the real story here, for anyone willing to write about it, is this VAST left-wing conspiracy that’s been conspiring against my son since the day he took office.”
Thank God Democrats never demanded accountability from Clinton. Wonderful precedent!
July 14th, 2005 at 5:05 pmWe know how the GOP won the last election with control of the E vote machines and rigged to count in Ohio and Florida.
I live in currently and voted in Ohio for the last election. First of all, Ohio was one of those states along with Florida to have all of the lawyers present to ensure there was no voter fraud. Secondly, not all voting in Ohio or Florida was on electronic machines. Thirdly, and you didn’t mention this but I figured you will anyway, that only the polling places with long lines affected only democrats and not republicans so Kerry would have received more votes had people not given up. I say to all of this for your own good, get over this. Get over the 2000 election. Harboring this hate is hurting your party. Thanks for listening.
July 14th, 2005 at 5:07 pmSettin’ up your twisted P.O.V. again? Shame, shame.
July 14th, 2005 at 5:19 pmN.E.D.
All of the facts being out are not necessary to create
the credibility problem that Junior is developing today.
The (2) facts required are:
(1) The White House has stated in the past that K.R. was not involved in the leak.
(2) It is now fact that K.R. was involved.
The key word here is ‘involved’. Not ‘commited a crime’.
July 14th, 2005 at 5:26 pmCan you see that there need not be a crime committed for
Junior to develop a credibility problem in this particular
situation?
NED:
What are you rambling about now? Elections? Please, that’s old news, but a nice little diversion…
No matter, there is only one relevant voice on this matter, and he has made a very clear statement:
Prosecutor Fitzgerald has insisted: “This case is not about a whistle-blower. It’s about a potential retaliation against a whistle-blower.”
And don’t count on Barbara Bush rushing to sonny boy’s aid any time soon by smearing Wilson. After all, her husband not only employed Wilson (faithfully), but he also wrote him a letter stating:
“Your courageous leadership during this period of great danger for American interests and American citizens has my admiration and respect. I salute, too, your skillful conduct of our tense dealings with the government of Iraq,” President Bush wrote Wilson in a letter. “The courage and tenacity you have exhibited throughout this ordeal prove that you are the right person for the job.”
But I’ll defer back to Prosecutor Fitzgerald. This isn’t about Wilson. It’s about the treasonous scumbags that outed his wife.
July 14th, 2005 at 5:31 pmBush I is not material – I was just making a point. Point being – Republicans will not abandon Bush because of liar Clinton and his party’s precendece during the impeachment saga.
No matter what, Rove gets off. The senate is now debating an amendment to Harry Reid’s amendment that says any Senator who uses classified info on the Senate floor to denigrate our troops is committing a crime!!! lol!! John S – if you want a nasty fight, you’ll get one. AND you will lose. We will destroy Senate Democrats for lying about Wilson. We can play in the mud too.
Remember trashing Bush over his guard record? What happened – we came back with sticks and pointed out that your boy was an admitted war criminal.
As usual – you people don’t learn. Trust me this will leave a welt.
July 14th, 2005 at 6:03 pmNED:
Your desperation is showing, and this makes me very happy. As your ramblings deviate more and more from your pseudo-reality, you run the risk of divorcing yourself from your talking points.
Point being – Republicans will not abandon Bush because of liar Clinton and his party’s precendece during the impeachment saga.
Care to explain how this has anything to do with Clinton? Or will you just thorw out another anti-Democratic invective?
No matter what, Rove gets off.
Why do you hate our country? Why do you prefer to stand by a man who may have committed treason and put our country in harms way? Why do you want Americans to die?
if you want a nasty fight, you’ll get one. AND you will lose. We will destroy Senate Democrats for lying about Wilson. We can play in the mud too.
You’ve already GOT a nasty fight. Pre-supposing victory underestimates your enemy, and practically hands him victory. Thanks. We already know you play in the mud. You LIVE in the stuff. But why would you threaten Senate Democrats for lying about Wilson when you want to kiss Seante Republicans for lying about Wilson? An interesting “logic” you have there.
As usual – you people don’t learn. Trust me this will leave a welt.
Bend over and prepare for corporal punishment like you’ve never received since Nixon. You Republicons were pretty high and mighty then, too. Which is where we want you to be.
The higher you are, the bigger your fall. And from as high up as you are now, there is no doubt your neck will break upon impact. We can’t wait.
July 14th, 2005 at 6:23 pmJohn S – I love America. I’m sorry that Joe Wilson splattered himself all over tv so he could boost your war criminal President, but Rove did not out her. Read up on the law.
As for the fight – remember the GOP didn’t have the House and Senate in 1974. AND God love him, Nixon fell apart at the seams with the Sat night massacre or whatever that was. Bush is much smarter and so is the modern day GOP. If we need to investigate Kerry outing a CIA agent at Bolten’s hearing, Leaky Leahy or anyone else on your hateful side – WE WILL.
You are powerless. Having David Gregory attack the White House ain’t the same as haivign it!!
July 14th, 2005 at 6:28 pm“Having David Gregory attack the White House ain’t the same as haivign it!! ”
1,700 dead soldiers cannot attest to the fact, but 10,000 maimed can.
Or are we still looking for that uranium in Iraq?
July 14th, 2005 at 7:46 pmNED:
Since you support one well known traitor (Nixon) and a possible traitor (Rove) “no matter what”, then you clearly do not love this country or any of the principles it was founded on.
You love the Republican party and its conservative ideology, and nothing more.
May God have mercy on your diseased soul.
July 15th, 2005 at 9:13 amThe lies are too numerous to list. Bush claimed to be a uniter, he is not. He said that the congress giving him a vote of confidence vis-a-vi Iraq was a vote for “peace”. The DSM shows that to be a lie. He said that he would deal with anybody who leaked Plames name, that is a lie. He said that Iraq’s would pay for the reconstruction of their country, we are now spending 8 billion per month in Iraq. My state spends 7 billion per YEAR to cover its cost. He said that we would be greeted as “liberators”. Perhaps he should ask our soldiers how that is going?
July 15th, 2005 at 11:00 amSo the trolls around here are admitting they are the minority.
Wonderful.
The freak from the northeast says liberalism is dying yet it admits its the minority.
Thats the mental defect that makes me laugh, they contradict themselves when the facts are presented.
LOL. Trolls. You are the one’s who are entertaining.
I particularly like the three wheel bikes with the basket in the back that you ride so proudly thru town.
You crack me up every time…HAA…HAAAA!
July 15th, 2005 at 12:19 pmThese are the very same political hacks that toiled tirelessly trying to destroy President Clinton. Even while he was embroiled in that pressure cooker he managed to balance the budget and produce a surplus, create over 22 million jobs for Americans from the time he took office and for you super right-wing religious screamers, abortions declined 17% during his tenure as president.
July 26th, 2005 at 10:43 pmNow tell me, what in the hell tangible benefits has President Bush brought to the American people during his tenure in office that can compare to just those 3 accomplishments?
Oh… I’m sorry, I’m criticizing him. I must be a liberal, America hating, tree hugger wacko. Nah, not really. I just have this problem with preferring truth over lies, results over failures, vision over shortsightedness. Most importantly, changing the rules to suit you as you go is just plain childish.
Republicans hate America, the constitution and especially the bill of rights.
