Biden: Did Bolton Testify In Leak Investigation?»

The following is a text of a letter from Sen. Joseph Biden asking the Bush administration to clarify whether John Bolton has testified before the grand jury investigating the Valerie Plame leak:

July 27, 2005

The Honorable Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of State
Washington, DC 20520

Dear Madame Secretary,

I write in connection with the nomination of John R. Bolton to be Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

On July 21, 2005, MSNBC reported that Under Secretary Bolton testified before the federal grand jury in Washington that is investigating the leak of the identity of Valerie Plame as an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency.

I write to request that you or the nominee inform the Committee whether Mr. Bolton did, in fact, appear before the grand jury, or whether he has been interviewed or otherwise asked to provide information by the special prosecutor or his staff in connection with this matter, and if so, when that occurred. As you know, the Committee questionnaire, which the nominee completed in March, requires all nominees to inform the Committee whether they have been “interviewed or asked to supply any information in connection with any administrative (including an inspector general), Congressional or grand jury investigation within the past 5 years, except routine Congressional testimony.”

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
Ranking Minority Member

Bolton must be Judith Miller’s source. And here I thought it was Chalibri’s buddy, Dick Cheney! John Stewart was right about Bush giving Rove and Libby awards for being traitors. Rove and Libby were recetly given pay raises on top of Bush giving Rumsfeld, Tenet metals and Rice and Hadley promotions! We are all now living in some parallel universe I fear.

  2. cynical ex-hippie Says:

You mean Bush’s nominees are supposed to say whether they’ve been before a grand jury? And these Dems want to know whether Bush’s nominees are part of an ongoing criminal investigation? Obstructionists!

Just ask the nominee about her figure skating, complement her pretty hair, and give her a pass. That’s the proper way to govern.

  3. Brian Says:

    Bolton looks like Ned Flanders.

  4. Ryan Neat Says:

Ned Flanders with a penchant for swinger parties and ‘dirty sex’…

  5. bling Says:

Good to see Biden finally getting some cojones.

  6. Ryan Neat Says:

CONservatives care less about genuine national security than they do about protecting their friends and maintaining their political dominance.

It’s a classic Fascist approach of centralized incompetence, self preservation, myopic narrow views of the world and their place in the world, constrained sensibilities of right and wrong that only project outwards, and a complete detachment from reality…

  7. Brian Says:

    Scrum-diddly-icious! mmm…sex parties…

  8. Flamethrower Says:

man, you guys are the ones that deserve a raise, not Rove and the Felonious 3.

Tell Podesta I told you so.

  9. Brian Says:

Hopefully, Biden has been reading the blogs and learning alittle about himself. He’s still a wierdo.

  10. Christopher Says:

    Biden is such a moron.

Is he a member of the Judiciary Committee? Will he look at John Roberts and say, “I love ya’ man, I really do, but you must tell us where you stand on choice.”

    Biden=MBNA. He’s a DINO.

    . . .

  11. Political Forecast » Blog Archive » Did Bolton testify? Says:

[…] That is a question that Steve Clemons has been trying to find out. Now Sen. Biden has joined the mix, asking secretary of State Condi Rice in a letter if John Bolton testified in the leak investigation or not. Nico at Think Progress has the details. […]

  12. Terrytheturtle Says:

Bolton has means, motive and opportunity to be involved as I pointed out last week: http://www.tompaine.com/ articles/ 20050511/ boltons_yellowcake.php

Otherwise, I think Biden is a self-important waffler.

  13. Gee Duuuhh Beeyah Says:

Biden is a pussy and an egomaniac… he’s just following instructions posed by numerous journalists and bloggers…and he’d like to get his mug in front of a camera on this issue.

John Bolton’s problems run much deeper than whether or not he testified before the grand jury…

  14. Ryan Neat Says:

Biden is a product of Delaware and the twisted control the financial and pharmaceutical industries have over the state. You can’t get elected from there unless you’re a stupid schill, irrespective of your political party. Biden is a great example of why campaign finance reform is critical if we’re ever to restore democracy!

  15. Mr Blifil Says:

Wow. Biden wrote a letter. Wonder which secret service bodyguard Condosleeza will run over with an SUV in her haste to hurry home and fashion a reply.

  16. javajake Says:

granted, none of the Dems are making enough noise on this, but, at least he wrote the letter. this could be an important step in derailing what was rumored to be a recess appointment for Flanders. at least someone stepped up to the plate.

  17. KEVIN SCHMIDT Says:

Biden wants to run for President in 2008. He is fully supported by PACs and their money, but not by Democrats.

    OUr worst nightmare, Clinton/Biden 08.

If that happens, I WILL vote for Nader!

  18. Terrytheturtle Says:

Biden is hopeless. His recent voting record is sound, but he strikes me as a publicity hound and a lightweight. http://www.bushwatch.com/demwatch.htm

Give him a reality TV show and get someone with a bit of fire in there.

  19. Ahmad Chalabi Says:

Aren’t there more important things to think about? Like where those ‘missing WMD are’? Or perhaps how my Judith is doing in lock up?

Here’s another point, one my lady pointed out to me recently: it seems hard to believe that Karen Hughes –

Biden has been bought with GOOD money by the credit card companies, big pharma and who know who else.He ran a few years back but they busted him for plagiarism.

  22. Susan Says:

Biden is this years Zell Miller. Useless to the advancement of democracy in America.

#21, We got the play by play (and still do) about Martha’s incarceration. I do expect the same play by play from Judith’s cell.

  23. cynical ex-hippie Says:

You know what this country really needs? Another celebrity sex scandal. Take our minds off that piddling war and economy stuff.

  24. Willy Riot Says:

How about Karl Rove’s extra-marital affair? Did you know his wife was a hard core liberal? No wonder he don’t get no love at home.

  25. kindness Says:

Is Karl married? I didn’t think he was.

  26. Red Ruffian Says:

Biden is to be complimented. I do not agree with his stands on a number of issues like the banking bill. But face it, the media does not give face time to real left wingers. When he is on the talk circuit he does try to shove the discourse back to the middle or left. His letter is another clear shot across the bow to point out the crooked and dangerous nature of the radical right that rules the country. If guys like him get knifed in the back when they show some spine how do you encourage others to show some backbone when their time comes?

  27. Jesse Etelson Says:

Talk about stabbing ourselves in the back. It’s hard to believe that the reaction to this story is overwhelmingly anti-Biden instead of focusing on the non-sex scandal that prompted his action. I see Nader’s name surfacing again. How badly do these folks crave defeat and disaster at the hands of the bandits within the real enemies of progress?
