Today, at approximately 12:45PM, State Department spokesperson Scott McCormack said this about John Bolton:
Mr. Bolton, as part of the nomination process, supplied answers, supplied an answer to the question. They’d asked whether or not the nominee has been interviewed or asked to supply any information in connection with any administrative, including an Inspector General, congressional or grand jury investigation within the past five years, except routine Congressional testimony. Mr. Bolton, in his response on the written paperwork, was to say no. And that answer was truthful then and it remains the case now.
Josh Marshall points to an AP story that just hit the wire. Apparently, before the day was out, the State Department has completely changed it’s story:
John Bolton, the nominee for U.N. ambassador, inaccurately told Congress he had not been interviewed or testified in any investigation over the past five years, the State Department said Thursday When Bolton filled out a Senate questionnaire in connection with his nomination, “he didn’t recall being interviewed by the State Department’s inspector general. Therefore, his form, as submitted, was inaccurate,” [State Department spokesperson Noel] Clay said. “He will correct it.”
What a difference a few hours makes.

Bushco: A pattern of mendacity
July 28th, 2005 at 10:00 pmum um um um um look over there —–>
July 28th, 2005 at 10:08 pmFor the Dems––Don’t stroke, don’t choke, just get the facts, and poke the bloke!
July 28th, 2005 at 10:26 pmFrank did a good job on “Softball” tonight. Let’s say we commend him on his push for hearings into the leak.

July 28th, 2005 at 10:49 pmThese horrendous people running this Government can only be likened to about the worst Nightmare America ever had. The Revolution had real people with real principles. These Bush people are not people at all. They are hardened criminals and thugs with absolutely ZERO Principles.
July 28th, 2005 at 11:05 pmYeah well don’t give up unless you’re willing to live with it. Wars don’t end in a day.
A Democrat, obviously being obstructionist, felt he had to point this out explicitly. When was the last time you had to tell someone, “Excuse me, I don’t mean to correct you, but you were interviewed as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Remember? All those questions the Inspector General had for you? About that one crime?”
It’s not Bolton’s fault if he can’t remember something just because it happened. Sounds like sloppy research, or maybe he lost his daybook. Classic Reaganite Liar’s Loophole. It’s not a lie if you believe it at the time. Bravo Bolton! Well played! If we applaud loudly, perchance we’ll see a lamp-throwing encore.
At the very least, he’s getting a show on Fox News out of this (move over Ollie!). Though it’s looking more and more like an ensemble cast.
July 29th, 2005 at 12:27 amMaybe this Administration will shift our focus back to Rove to deflect it from Bolton. It worked Roberts over Rove… it should work Rove over Bolton right?! Heck, if they then send it back to Roberts, just as he receives nomination, we may even forget we are at war! Or at least get a cheap high from being dizzy.
*ugh*
July 29th, 2005 at 7:07 amAhh yes, Bolton. Brought to you by the same team that had such hits as “Kerik and the nanny”, “Gonzales and the quaint Geneva Conventions”, and of course “Mr. AWOL and the man-smooching in the gardens”
July 29th, 2005 at 9:22 amIt will shift the focus back to Bolton when Bush places him in power over the congressional recess. One way or another, this fascist administration gets what it wants.
July 29th, 2005 at 9:24 amMore of the same b.s. from this administration. He “forgot” his interview — shades of Ronald Reagan!
July 29th, 2005 at 9:41 amWhy cannot everyone see that no one in this cabal of criminals can tell the truth — their memories are so very convenient.
They are fascists. If you don’t believe so, look up the definition.
Look at quotes from Nazi German leaders. See if they don’t apply to this administration.
Read Orwell’s “1984″ and see if it doesn’t appear to be the playbook for Bush and Company.
If he didn’t own (through purchase, extortion and bribery) the entire congress, and were not aided and abetted by the corporate ownership of the media (supported by the FCC)he would have been impeached long ago. He is by far the worst president in history — thousands have died, billions have been lost, and the costs keep rising.
When Bush appoints Bolton to the UN next week, we will have an uncontrollable liar reporesenting the U.S. to the world. Between him and Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, we are doomed.
Ronnie had a valid excuse. He had Alzenheimers. The current crop doesn’t have the same excuse. They are just arrogant and greedy bastards.
What I can’t fathom for the life of me is all the little people, the hard working men and women who are middle class who still think bushco is out trying to help them. Maybe self delusion is comforting to them. I just don’t get it.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:27 amState Dept. spokesliar Sean McCormack, only appointed on 6/2/05, claims Bolton “did not recall being interviewed by the inspector general” when filling out forms for his Senate confirmation hearings.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:45 amIf, for some reason, you don’t believe McCormack, call him directly at his office. I just did.

I think these red state people are still under some kind of fantasy that Bush would actually lower himself to come over for a backyard barbecue with any of us.
Hate to break it to all the NASCAR folks, but if you don’t own a mansion in Kennebunkport, you’re won’t be hanging out with George.
Heck, he looks like a freindly guy. In fact, I’d like to buy him a drink. Whiskey. Tall one. Suck it down.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:47 am“Ongoing Investigation.”
Still #1 on this week’s Billboard Top 10 Bush Sound Bites.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:58 amCall John Bolton and remind him never to forget to remember not to lie to the Senate:
Bolton, John R. (202) 647-1049 7208 S HST
July 29th, 2005 at 11:02 amHere’s an interesting (ok, i wrote it — it’s a joke, anyway!) explanation of the Bolton nomination….
July 29th, 2005 at 11:42 amFrom #11: “What I can’t fathom for the life of me is all the little people, the hard working men and women who are middle class who still think bushco is out trying to help them. Maybe self delusion is comforting to them. I just don’t get it.”
Kindness, I feel your pain. I asked this question on another thread to NED, Lyle, and their kind, but as I expected, the question was ignored. I’ve never heard anyone give a coherent explanation as to why they follow this so-called “leader” or voted for him in the first place, especially for the second term. I remain dumbfounded.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:05 pmI work around people like that, and to them (my coworkers) it is almost like religion, a matter of faith. Now honestly, these very same people hate democrats with every fiber of their being. We get along professionally, but no one would come over after work. When I ask them what they think, they knee jerk defend bushco and will literally say anyone critisizing this administration during times of war borders on treason. I kid you not.
They don’t know how close the are to the German people just prior to Hitlers rise. Good people who are unwilling to admit they may be seriously wrong and culpable in the rise of totalitarionism.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:16 pm[…] Actually, that’s completely wrong. It was Sen. Joe Biden who pointed out that Bolton provided inaccurate information to the Senate in a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday afternoon. It wasn’t until several hours later that John Bolton fessed up through a State Department spokesperson. […]
July 29th, 2005 at 1:22 pmFalsified docs?
Hmmmmmmm, shouldn’t that be an automatic deal breaker?
. . .
July 29th, 2005 at 1:24 pmIf I falsified my resume, I’d be kicked out, why not John ‘I always wear a brownshirt’ Bolton?
July 29th, 2005 at 1:30 pmEver notice what happens after Bush calls someone “a good man”? They usually turn out to be scum.
Bolton, detested by people who had the misfortune to work around him, has the Bushco “selective memory”. I doubt very much he ever forgot any incident, or anyone he wanted revenge against.
His sole use seems to be that he is willing to try to dismantle the U.N. for Bushco. Are they really under the illusion that they can rule the whole world and create an empire that “will last for a thousand years”.
John Roberts forgot that he was a member of the Federalist Society. Rove couldn’t remember which member of the press gave him the info to “out Valerie Plame”. Do we really need people in power with such impaired memories?!! That is, of course, apart from the other million reasons we don’t need them.
