At today’s White House press briefing, Scott McClellan was asked about the inaccurate information Bolton provided to the Senate:
QUESTION:…Is the president concerned about the apparent error on Mr. Bolton’s questionnaire to the Senate in which he said that he had not been questioned in a federal investigation in the preceding five years when now it has been revealed that, in fact, he was at least interviewed in the context of the inspector general’s CIA investigation of the uranium potential sale from Niger to Iraq?
MCCLELLAN: I think the State Department addressed that last night, and it was John Bolton who pointed that out.
Actually, that’s completely wrong. It was Sen. Joe Biden who pointed out that Bolton provided inaccurate information to the Senate in a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday afternoon. It wasn’t until several hours later that John Bolton fessed up through a State Department spokesperson.

ROFLMAO!!!
Poor Scotty. Scotty=loser.
. . .
July 29th, 2005 at 1:24 pmOne of these days Scotty is going to get so dizzy from spinning up there that he will puke all across the press corps.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:35 pm[…] Scott McClellan is beginning to look like the Tasmanian Devil as he has spun so much in the last couple of weeks in the Press Room. Isn’t he dizzy yet? […]
July 29th, 2005 at 1:35 pmAt this point I think McClellan would prefer to have a leg amputated than have to keep getting up in front of the media each day (and the WH press core is loaded with stenographers…imagine if they were actual journalists??). I have to believe he’ll be exiting stage left any day now.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:39 pmScott is just following the GOP handbook. It says that, when caught in a lie, just make up another lie to cover it up. If that lie is discovered, just repeat until press/Democrats/sane people just throw up their hands and leave. Once they have left, the hanbook advises making up a final lie to indicate that the press/Democrats/sane people were the ones lying all along. Then close with an evil grin and do that finger thing that Mr. Burns on the Simpsons does. If possible, vanish in a poof of evil black smoke.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:45 pmAnd it was the Bush administration who first discovered that Saddam was not involved in 9/11.
July 29th, 2005 at 1:48 pmScott should just set up a tape recorded loop at the podium saying, “I think the White House has made its position clear on this issue” and “That issue has been thoroughly addressed”.
http://www.hairytruth.blogspot.com
July 29th, 2005 at 1:57 pmLying and utter disregard for the truth are two different things, the latter being the more dangerous. These guys lie so much that the public is almost immunized from outrage.
The media has lost credibility as well, so there’s pretty much no one besides the blogs who call these liars on their lies. So kudos to thinkprogress.org
July 29th, 2005 at 1:58 pmThe Repugs are spinning so fast and lying so much that they can’t keep it all straight. It’s sad yet humorous to see them tripping over each other’s spin/lies.
Just think, within 24 hours we could have Bolton in place via recess appointment. The “perfect candidate” will have completed his journey, and be powerless since all his peers will know he has zero Congressional backing and a limited term. Isn’t blind power great?
July 29th, 2005 at 2:05 pmTruth4achange, re your post on 29 July 2005 @ 1:57 pm:
“Scott should just set up a tape recorded loop at the podium saying, ‘I think the White House has made its position clear on this issue’ and ‘That issue has been thoroughly addressed’.”
Better still if an enterprising journalist would set the recorder up with a note addressing redundency before Scott enters the room so that Scott’s incompetence and mendacity gets driven home. What could little Scottie say besides, “Gee, thanks.”? As an American taxpayer, I want to know why Scott still receives a salary since the position is completely unnecessary at this point.
July 29th, 2005 at 2:11 pmIt’s not just the lies, but we must pay attention to the core issue that the lies, leaks, and cover-ups point to, that is, the false case the administration made for the Iraq war. What did Bolton lie about? His lie of omission was about his interview as part of a State Department-CIA joint investigation on intelligence lapses that led to the Bush administration’s pre-Iraq war claim that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger. Why did he omit that particular information? In the unraveling of Nixon’s Watergate, the operative motto was “follow the money.â€? Here the motto should be “follow the lies.â€? They all point to the same core issue.
July 29th, 2005 at 2:43 pmDo you think Scott McClellan had an idea that things would get this hot for him as press sec’y?
July 29th, 2005 at 2:43 pmHe continues to use the same phrasing in his answers — there is nothing more to be said — what choice does he have when his bosses treat him like a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed s–t) or they deliberately lie to him and he stands there like a goalie at a hockey game. One could almost feel sorry for him until one remembers that he is one of them — the corrupt, contemptible, sleazy, squinty-eyed snobs.
Marie thank you and I appreciate your question. We all want to get to the bottom of this, I assure you. I cannot answer your question during the ongoing investigation, but once the investigation is completed, I’ll be happy to talk about it at that time.
July 29th, 2005 at 3:18 pmWhy can’t someone in the WH press corps have the “guts” or spine to stand up before the cameras and say to McClellan in the face of his lying…”Scotty that is a lie!” Sure you would be barred, but at the very least you would have shown some integrity. Forget that McClellan is “just doing his job, and his one of us,” and do your job and expose this pack of liars before the American people for who they are. You will certainly make the evening news except on CNN and Faux which are mouthpieces for the WH. It is about time the WH press corps lost the yellow stripe down their backs.
July 29th, 2005 at 3:25 pmOl’ Scotty is spun so far to the right
July 29th, 2005 at 3:39 pmyou couldn’t turn him left with a
four foot pipe on an 18″ breaker bar.
All the latest PlameGate documents are available in the Rove Scandal HQ.
July 29th, 2005 at 4:09 pmJon, call it TreasonGate - that’s what it is. Its nothing to do with the Wilsons. Take a leaf out of the repubs book - the message framing is important too. Thanks for the update, its on my ‘to read’ list.
July 29th, 2005 at 4:30 pmSo now we know where Bagdad Bob is hiding out.
July 29th, 2005 at 5:01 pmAnd the press lets Scotty get away with telling more lies!!!!
Scotty Lied!
Scotty Lied!
Scotty Lied!
Scotty Lied!
Scotty Lied!
Scotty Lied!
Burn the son of a bitc… Why am I degrading that group?
July 29th, 2005 at 5:28 pmMcClellan must be a masochist to take the beating, but it makes sense with the sadists in the BushCo administration.
July 29th, 2005 at 5:37 pmWho forged the false reports of uranium in Niger in the first place? My bet is on Cheney, with perhaps an assist by Bolton.
July 29th, 2005 at 6:05 pmI dream of being there. I want to ask Scott how he sleeps at night. What would your question be?
July 29th, 2005 at 6:14 pmScott is only following the very malicious agenda of the people in power. Do something that doesn’t represent the American people, or any people for that matter, do something to hurt us and continue the move towards globalisation, then lie and cover up your tracks, and feel free to fabricate any story you like. We’re all idots right? Unfortunately McClellan is such a dork that clearly anyone can see he is a liar and a “spinner”.
July 29th, 2005 at 6:24 pmJohn The Elder is right. But who will be the willing media sacrifice on the cross of Truth?
If that person comes forward, we had all be ready to support her/him, elsewise we are no better than the mob bidding for clothes on the path to Calvary.
We will abandon our media sacrifice and the media will get back in their SUVs and drive home knowing that, again, someone else was their stand-in, their shield, and deny, deny, deny that it was the correct thing to do…like the cowards they are.
July 29th, 2005 at 6:27 pmHere they go again! These guys couldn’t shoot straight if their lives depended on it. It seem as those McClellan doesn’t care if he has any creditability at all. They accused Clinton of shading the truth, but they wrote the book on it. He could learn a thing or two or three from them.
I guess if the truth hurts then tell a lie and get it over with, right? Then you get all of these right wing pin-heads coming out to make excuses for Bolton and any other lying bonehead they name to a position. I don’t know about them (Rightwingers), but the last time I checked their hero Ronald Reagan, believed in telling the truth. http://WWW.Plainnews.blogspot.com
July 29th, 2005 at 6:46 pmDoes anyone remember “Bagdad Bob”? That guy that the Iraqui Ministry of Propaganda or Press or whatever trotted out to refute the obvious disaster that was happening in his country? “There is no invasion! The Americans are not here…they are cowering in holes! We will butcher them!” It was widely accepted that this guy was spouting all this because of fear of reprisal from Saddam if he said anything other than the agreed upon script. Any paralells here to Scott McLellan? Anyone? Anyone? Oh wait…I just re-read the posts. Sorry, Roscoe.
July 29th, 2005 at 6:51 pmA couple weeks ago there was a lot of cheering about the press making scott squirm a little over the rove leak, weeks (months?) after it was confimed that karl was involved. Ever wonder how and where and by whom it gets decided that the press corpses may now be “allowed” to ask questions about what you would assume to be such a damaging scandal? I’m left to assume that it wouldn’t have come up at all if the WH didn’t have a slick “exit strategy”. Karl may be laughing as he waits to be appointed to a newly created senate ethics comittee chair position.
July 29th, 2005 at 7:31 pmWhen will the people wake up and smell the stench emanaaing from the White House. The Rove gang have no honesty in their bones.
July 29th, 2005 at 7:38 pmI don’t understand these comments, everything the dubya does is right so everything scott says must also be right
July 29th, 2005 at 7:43 pmScott McClellan is the undiscovered son of Baghdad Bob! (”Tanks?! WHAT tanks??? Our President > is in complete control > of the situation >.”
July 29th, 2005 at 7:52 pmWell, I can understanding the moaning about the WH and the lying liars that tell lies and all that, and yes I’m outraged by these despicable people; but arent these people able to do these things because the US people voted for them? And even if the media don’t do their job then isn’t it still the voters responsibility to not be taken in by these sippery people? So can’t we simply say the US people have got the goverment they deserve, and the one they wanted? So, if you live in the US then why not just leave and go to a country less insane.
July 29th, 2005 at 8:05 pmRepeat your lies often enough and people will believe it…that’s how he got re-elected (or elected for the first time in 2004. Daddy’s friends in the Supreme Court got him in office the first time, NOT THE PEOPLE).
July 29th, 2005 at 8:21 pmI thought the election fraud was well established.
July 29th, 2005 at 8:23 pmThe republithugs said Clinton lied, impeach him. It was over a bj.
Democrats are saying Bush/Rove/Cheeney/Libby…etc. lied - are lying will lie. It is over treason, obstruction of justice, an illegal war, protecting war criminals….etc.
WHICH IS HARDER TO SWALLOW?
July 29th, 2005 at 8:28 pmScotty died.
July 29th, 2005 at 8:51 pmScotty died.
Scotty died.
Scotty di….Ooops!Wrong Scotty.
i am always wondering how hard it is to each chowder with that mustache….
July 29th, 2005 at 8:51 pmBoobey-boobey, hiney-ho…I’m jerking off…ah-hah!….look at me, look at me….ha ha…ahhhh….I’m bleeding, bleeding…look at me …look at the blisters…ah-hah!
July 29th, 2005 at 9:57 pmAs the saying goes, “give them enough rope to hang themselves.” So let the Bush/Neocons get everything they want: Bolton in the UN, Roberts in the supreme court, Roe v Wade overturned, more Halliburton no-bid contracts, environmental resources ravaged, etc. And just like Nixon riding high during his second-term win: great tragedy and disgrace (his humiliating resignation). For the Bushies, what goes around will run’em over like a steamroller.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:22 pmAs this administration governs by spreading fear and using intimidation it should come as no surprise that truth is the first casualty and secrecy is the order of the day. Sad part is that after doing this for a while, it becomes part of the DNA and the doer does not even realize he/she is doing it.
July 29th, 2005 at 11:32 pmThese are days you remember… 10K maniacs.
GEORGE BUSH RULES!! MAY ALL YOU LIBS GET A LIFE AND PLEASE, MOVE OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!!
July 29th, 2005 at 11:43 pmre #40,
Darryel sounds like he just found Jesus. Nope, just bush.
BTW, #40, it is NOT your country….it belongs to Rove and he just lets bush speak to make you feel NOT SO DUMB.
If you bible thumpers would stick to the O’reilley show and stay off our websites the world would be better too.
Also, make sure your trailer house is tied down, I hear there is GUNNA BE A BIG DRAFT.
July 30th, 2005 at 12:23 amIf the press had any cajones they would boycott these press briefing on the grounds that Scotty has no credibility left and they would refuse to cover the White Briefings until he was gone and another more credible press secrtary was in place.
July 30th, 2005 at 1:11 amTo Daryl,
July 30th, 2005 at 1:23 amAs an Indigenous person of this land (Navajo), why dont YOU get out of my country.
Lesson’s From History…
The doctrine that Might is Right, though it is true, is an unprofitable doctrine, for it is true only in so broad and simple a sense that no one would dream of denying it. If a single nation can conquer, depress, and destroy all the other nations of the earth and acquire for itself a sole dominion, there may be matter for question whether God approves that dominion; what is certain is that He permits it. No earthly governor who is conscious of his power will waste time in listening to arguments concerning what his power ought to be. His right to wield the sword can be challenged only by the sword. An all-powerful governor who feared no assault would never trouble himself to assert that Might is Right. He would smile and sit still. The doctrine, when it is propounded by weak humanity, is never a statement of abstract truth; it is a declaration of intention, a threat, a boast, an advertisement. It has no value except when there is some one to be frightened. But it is a very dangerous doctrine when it becomes the creed of a stupid people, for it flatters their self-sufficiency, and distracts their attention from the difficult, subtle, frail, and wavering conditions of human power. The tragic question for Germany to-day is what she can do, not whether it is right for her to do it. The buffaloes, it must be allowed, had a perfect right to dominate the prairie of America, till the hunters came. They moved in herds, they practised shock-tactics, they were violent, and very cunning. There are but few of them now. A nation of men who mistake violence for strength, and cunning for wisdom, may conceivably suffer the fate of the buffaloes and perish without knowing why.
Sir Walter Raleigh in reference to the Germans
July 30th, 2005 at 1:27 amin WW1 (1914)
THE WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING HAS LOST MY ATTENTION. SCOTT KNEW WHAT HE WAS GETTING INTO WHEN HE GOT THE JOB, I’M SURE.
OUR COUNTRY NEEDS COURAGES LEADERS WHO HAVE THE COURAGE TO TELL THE TRUTH.
NOT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS WHO WOULD THROW A ROCK AT A HORNETS NEST LIKE WE DID IN IRAQ. AND LIE ABOUT IT.
I’M AFRAID WE HAVE A BUNCH OF BULLIES AND COWARDS RUNNING OUR COUNTRY, WHY IS IT TAKING US SO LONG TO IMPEACH THEM ????
IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG TO IMPEACH CLINTON.
WAKE UP AMERICA!
July 30th, 2005 at 1:38 amrepublicans are proffesional liars
July 30th, 2005 at 2:10 amTrog, you are right there dude: try this from Alterman today, from an idea by Gibbon:
“There is nothing perhaps more adverse to nature and reason than to
hold in obedience remote countries and foreign nations in opposition to their inclination and interest.”  Edward Gibbon, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter XLIX
QED, good night, god bless, thank you for playing.
July 30th, 2005 at 3:05 amI did leave the country, but I am still American and care what happens to the US and the world. Dubya and his gang are destroying it all.
July 30th, 2005 at 4:37 amTo #34: Which is harder to swallow? HHMMMMMM….let me think a moment…
I agree with the Baghdad Bob comments also. Actually, the comparison(s) have a lot of merit.
To the person who believes America got the government we deserve cause we re-elected GW…..I didn’t vote for him and I do NOT deserve what he is dishing out to me and the American people…the loss of our integrity, the bilking of American tax payers $$$, the killing of American military, of Iraqi civilians. I do not deserve Cheney or Rove or Bolton or Rice or any of the other “homeboys” of this administration……
July 30th, 2005 at 6:46 amIt’s true the outing of Wilson’s wife by the White House damaged Mr.Wilson’s wife, but has any one taken a longer view of this matter. This is just the tip of this administration’s iceburg. Duh!, could this leak by the White House caused any of our soldiers to die? You can’t reveal information from secret documents without producing a domino effect in our intelligence. This outing is an act of treason against our country. What are the republicans waiting for to start an investigation?
July 30th, 2005 at 7:49 amDaryl
July 30th, 2005 at 10:08 amYou only think it’s your country. You have given it over to the modern-day Nazi party, run by Cheney, Rove, Bush and company.
Poor Scotty. It’s all so confusing. Joe Biden, John Bolton, James Brown, Jim Baker, Jeb Bush, … How can anyone be expected to keep them all straight?
July 30th, 2005 at 10:49 amFirst RoveGate, then Libby Gate, now Bolton Gate — somebody needs to close the gate, as the lies keep getting ot.
July 30th, 2005 at 11:33 amDoes McClellan have a direct email address? If he does I would suggest bombarding him with emails telling him…”we know you are lying through your teeth everytime you step up to the microphone, as we know that the CinC is a born-again liar. So know that none of us who know what you are doing are paying any attention to you and your boss. Sorry Scotty that you are willing to sell your own integrity for so cheap a price. What a lousy example you are setting for your kids. Shame on you!” Maybe enough emails tying him up, will push him out of the job, or cause him to change his email address. Then we will have to find the new one, and continue the campaign.
July 30th, 2005 at 12:43 pmMembers of the working class can be fired (constructively or otherwise) for being tardy, whistleblowing, using profanity etc.. Convicts can’t even get a job because of their record, however, elected and appointed officials can have a history of lying, cheating and stealing, be nominated for a post and then be appointed. Exposing classified secrets to all our enemies, playing favorites with lobbyists for campaign contributions, allowing nominees that devolve civil rights to be appointed to the bench is the fault of the corporate branches of government that aren’t held accountable by “We the People”. If there’s a third party that refuses to campaign on corporate contributions, this is a party we should listen to attentively.
July 30th, 2005 at 12:53 pmGood news! The latest poll suggests that 51% or American’s believe that Bushie misled the country into war. (Grounds for Impeachment) It’s hard to believe that there are still morons out there but we are making progress.

July 30th, 2005 at 1:11 pmNothing about Bush and his band of crooks surprises me. What surprises me is that there are so many people who can’t think for themselves and think Bush is a great president.
The idea that these people are pro creating in record numbers terrifies me.
July 30th, 2005 at 8:35 pmTake heart everyone, just like Hitler’s last days in the bunker….
bush, cheeney, rove, libbey and all the rats know the end is near. They think their bunker mentality will rub off on the dumb Americans…but it won’t.
Hell, even Hitler had the good sense to kill himself in spite of Prescott Bush and George (the smarter one) telling him they could get him out of Germany with the REST of the war criminals.
July 30th, 2005 at 8:58 pmI miss Baghdad Bob. Where could he be hiding? Under the desk with the WMD’s? Or maybe being interviewed for a recess appointment.
July 30th, 2005 at 9:19 pm[…] (via ThinkProgress.org) […]
July 30th, 2005 at 10:22 pmHey, wanna move scotty down the road????
Just find ANOTHER PAID REPORTER in the press corps…
Remember Gannon - then no more Ari…..
Poof! Be gone, you have no power…..
July 30th, 2005 at 11:21 pmThe White House Press could ask why Scotty, How does it feel to be “Bagdad Bobâ€?? ”
Or Perhaps, just start addressing Scotty as “Bagdad Bobâ€? instead of “I have a question Scott.”
If everyone calls him “Bagdad Bob what are they going to do that they have not done already?
July 31st, 2005 at 1:29 amThe current BushCo is just the puppets for the real Modernday Nazi party in America.
Why do you think Bush had a communications device under his suit for the 9/11 commission “chat” (not under any oath) and during the debates?
His masters were in the background making hard work for the chimp.
July 31st, 2005 at 1:36 amSpeaking of 9/11 Bush’s story is that a camera crew of middle-easterners showed up on the morning of 9/11 and asked for an unscheduled interview before Bush left for the school photo op.
Why have we not seen any video of that crew if they really existed? Would not the Secret Service have survelliance of all locations where the President of the United States stays overnight? Would they not record all who attempt to see the President?
Another lie to enhance President Bush’s imagine of why he ran until Cheney had control everything?
It is funny that they infer that it was an attempted assination, like that in Aftganisan two days before, and they have never been able to find anyone. For that matter not finding the 9/11 terrorist supporters yet. But the British can get the 2nd terrorist cell within a couple of weeks.
Are other DOJ, FBI, and CIA personnel that imcompetent or has the Bush adminstration doctored the evidence so much that the real events and screwups with not be made public.
I remember a CBS reporter stay next to a landstrip as a plane take off on Sept 12 or 13. THe FBI spokeman said they were collecting or move stranded citizens around. I think they even showed a radar screen. That was the bin Ladens being collected and sent home by Bush. This before U.S. Citizens were again allowed to fly.
Yet in the 9/11 report they could not find evidence that this happen. An FBI agent said it never happened. But it was on TV news why was this lied about and the evidence destroyed? If it was not destroyed why didn’t the 9/11 commission find it?
Bush and the adminstration has a lot to hide. They have a lot that they have lied about. The Republican Congress is in it with them and there will never be charges brought against Bush. There will not be an investigation into the lies Bush has created and used against America.
July 31st, 2005 at 1:58 amhave you noticed one thing in common between the bush mob and the tasmanian devil they all have bedi eyes and spin at incredible rate dont they say bedi eyed people lie
July 31st, 2005 at 8:00 amTasmanian Scotty, lol love it #3
July 31st, 2005 at 9:50 amThese Nazi scumbags will pay. They are responsible for 9/11. They used 9/11 just as Hitler used the Reichstag fire to goad his people into an illegal war. They take away our freedoms daily. They stage fake terror events, exactly as depicted in ‘1984′. The Proletariots must rise to defeat this evil.
July 31st, 2005 at 11:21 amI don’t believe there is ANYTHING that the Bushies can truthfully claim on a list of their accomplishments that have been good for America.
July 31st, 2005 at 12:15 pmOn the other hand, it would be an unfair monololization of space here to list all that they have accomplished that has not been good for America, or worse, directly harmful to America and the world. Lemmings believe what he says and never check back to see what he does.
They are a rotten-to-the-core group, an embarrassment at best and dangerously deadly at worst - nearly 1800 soldiers dead and still counting.
It completely amazes me how the American public does not stand up to the spin and lies of this Administration. Some people like to be duped as long as they have their piece of the economic pie; I for one, do not. Just think, Clinton lied about his girlfriend(who he was trying to protect); and this character lied to the American public about the reason to go to war, and now several thousand will have died and many more injured an maimed, with no impeachment for a President and his friends who duped the Country.
July 31st, 2005 at 2:20 pmSay, since the monkeyboy stole 2 elections and was never elected….
Can he run for president again??
July 31st, 2005 at 8:01 pmWhen will the national emergency be declared and Bush remain in office?
July 31st, 2005 at 8:30 pmFor you interested boys and girls that don’t know how the shrubs got their fortune, how this is not even the second time they have profited from war (yes boys and girls I am speaking about their overt support of Hitler in WWII) do a search for Chris Floyd - CounterPunch.
It is the reader’s digest version of the shrub perversion!
August 1st, 2005 at 1:44 amWell, the wonderful shrubya just did another underhanded trick to get Rove off the front page.
In yet another “in your face, im the presiden” move he appointed the biggot bully bolton to the UN. Imagine, the guy that wants to dismantle the UN, as our representative there.
Boys and girls can you say NEW WORLD ORDER?
