Why did Rafael Palmerio take steroids? It’s Bill Clinton’s fault!
Emmett Tyrrell, editor of the right-wing American Spectator, explains:
President Bill Clinton executed his presidential tasks exuberantly day in and day out while retaining subpoenaed documents from prosecutors, coaching witnesses to deceive and lying brazenly to his staff and the public. He compartmentalized, and to this day, there are public figures who admire his sang-froid…
Palmeiro is one of Clinton’s finest students. Under oath before a Congressional Committee on March 17, he declared: “I have never used steroids. Period. I do not know how to say it more clearly than that. Never.” He too glared and pointed his finger emphatically. Now that he is suspended after that failed test, he argues with Clintonian indefatigability: “I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period.”
It’s odd that Tyrrell tries to connect Palmeiro to Clinton. After all, Palmeiro and his wife gave George W. Bush $8,000 for his 2004 campaign. And it’s Bush, who, even after Palmerio tested positive, still believes Palmerio never took steriods.
Good Gawd do these Right Wingers ever take responsibility for anything? I’ve been keeping a general list of all purpose Right Wing Excuses:
1. “It’s Clinton or Clinton Administration’s fault.”
August 4th, 2005 at 3:08 pm2. “The Clinton Administration did it or said it too.” or “Democrats did it too”
3. “9/11 Changed everything.”
4. “We are at war.”
5. “We are doing this to protect you”
6. The media for reporting aggravating things called facts.
7. Supposed media bias.
8. “Activists” Judges
9. On a case by case, blame one or more of the following: Immigrants, minorities, the UN, the French, non Judeo-Christian religions, atheists, Hollywood, public schools, the ACLU, MoveOn.Org, Michael Moore. George Soros, Jane Fonda, Barbara Streisand.
Can he get any more outlandish?
August 4th, 2005 at 3:08 pmPalmeiro is taking lessons from Clinton’s playbook? Was it in his playbook to contribute to Bush’s campaign? The RightWingNuts (RWNs) will go to any extreme — Palmeiro is not responsible – Clinton is! The dog ate my homework! The CIA gave me the wrong intelligence — Clinton told them! Saddam told us he didn’t have WMD but he couldn’t prove the negative – it’s Clinton’s fault! The trillions in budget surplus were imaginary – the trillions in deficit are Clinton’s fault! These whining SOBs are making me sick with their lack of accountability and lack of integrity, lack of responsibility and lack of brains.
Clinton is responsible for global warming! Global warming is a leftist myth but it’s Clinton’s fault anyway!
August 4th, 2005 at 3:13 pm#1, you forgot blaming John Podesta.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:16 pmWhatever DilEnema.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:18 pmJohn Podesta caused global warming, but he did it by rubbing Bill and Hill together. Of course, global warming is a myth. So are the Clintons. They don’t exist. So Podesta could not cause it by rubbing the Clintons together. Therefore, Global warming is a myth.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:19 pmIgnorance is rampant on the far right.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:22 pmNeD you almost sounded like a satirical lefty there for a second.
maybe your finally coming around.
I think even ned has to admit blaming clinton for palmerro’s steroid use is pretty far fetched.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:23 pmI am.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:30 pmbut I’m not NED, and as long as I’m not NED, neither is he…
August 4th, 2005 at 3:30 pmCome Again?
Think Progres mentions an article where Bill Clinton is blamed for teaching Rafael Palmeiro how to lie. Sure Bush is the one positive that Raffy hasn’t, and he did donate money to the Bush campaign, but those seem to side-step…
August 4th, 2005 at 3:38 pmI guess the lies that dubya has stated weren’t his. He was just repeating lies others told him. Yea, that’s the ticket….
God is wearing glasses now.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:45 pmPalmeiro actually followed this October 2003 script from the George W. Bush White House Honor and Dignity Watch, Valerie Plame Edition:
I don’t know if we’re going to find out the senior administration official. Now, this is a large administration, and there’s a lot of senior officials.
August 4th, 2005 at 3:49 pmCome to think of it, Palmeiro would have done well to read the ethics primer:
“What Would Jesus Do? An Ethical Guide for George W. Bush.”
August 4th, 2005 at 3:50 pmRumsfeld takes the cake on ‘how to lie’, I mean how else do you justify attacking Iraq when you’re the idiot who supplied the same dictator with WMDs? And how to you act ’surprised and appalled’ that Saddam used WMDs on his own people when you’re the same politician who ‘granted him permission’ to do so as long as he attacked Iran?
The CONservative spin machine is the biggest lie factory ever created!
August 4th, 2005 at 4:18 pmYes Ryan, J. Goebbels would be proud.
August 4th, 2005 at 4:20 pmEvery other letter in my last name spells S H I T!
August 4th, 2005 at 4:28 pmThe Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming!
http://mediamatters.org/items/200508030007
August 4th, 2005 at 4:34 pmWell of course its Clinton’s fault! Its always Clinton’s fault, no matter what the problem is. Right-wing conspiracy monger Jack Cashill has it all tied together too: TWA 800, 9-11, Ron Brown – you name it – as long as its bad, its Clinton’s fault.
(Except for the stuff Bush is responsible for: http://www.hairytruth.blogspot.com)
August 4th, 2005 at 4:34 pmClinton’s willy is the cause of all the evil in the world!
August 4th, 2005 at 4:48 pmI don’t know if we’re going to find out the senior administration official. Now, this is a large administration, and there’s a lot of senior officials.
Wow. That’s the basic Archie Bunker defense. “I got a lotta best friends. Some I don’t hardly even know.”
August 4th, 2005 at 4:48 pmIf clinton were half as powerful as the CONservatives claimed, we’d have warp drives by now and be watching intergallactic porn.
August 4th, 2005 at 4:49 pmThe person to blame is Raffy and only Raffy. He lied under oath to congress and he lied about not knowing how the steroids got in his body. He did this to himeslef. End of story. It doesn’t get any more simple than that.
August 4th, 2005 at 5:08 pmThis whole issue is just another reason for me to dislike sports and everything the industry has become. What kind of role models are these guys when they are parsing words to make excuses, beating their wives, drinking, using drugs, etc.. What a waste of time and money baseball and football have become.
Anyway I was thinking, and this might sound a little paranoid, but could this be part of a plan to get the government involved in regulating supplements? It’s a big market and currently unregulated. If all the coaches and players complain that they don’t know what’s in the supplements therefore it could have been a mistake that steriods got in their supplements by accident, the next logical step is for congress to propose that FDA regulates supplements. Many of them will fold under the beauracracy of the new regs, and soon pharms will offer FDA approved supplements. Or is this loony?
August 4th, 2005 at 5:20 pmFor a group that makes personal responsibilty sound like a big deal the repblicans sure are quick to blame everyone (clinton, democrats) for everything.
August 4th, 2005 at 5:52 pmThey are both are obsessed with their bats, other than that,no connection.
August 4th, 2005 at 6:42 pmKrazny,
That’s because they want you to be personally responsible and to pay for all of their failures and corporate welfare. When they talk about having personal responsibility – they aren’t referring to themselves, they’re referring to their belief that they should blame and make democrats responsible for all things, so they don’t have to feel guilty for all of their failures…
Nixon: Support Fascist overthrows of democratic governments in Chile and Argentina
Ford: Sell Plutonium Nuclear plants to Iran
Reagan: Sell crack in LA in order to fund Fascist thugs in central america
Reagan: Sell WMDs to Iraq, then secretly authorize their use by agreeing not to block UN interference
Reagan/BushI: Train and Fund what was to become AlQueda hoping they would only fight the russians
BushI: Put troops in Saudia Arabia, and leave them there – inflaming an already intense distrust of the US in the arab world
BushII: Invade Iraq, even though it was an illegal act based on international law – and was clearly done with fabricated evidence and an intent to deceive
And of course ALL adminstrations (unfortunately Dems qualify for this failure as well) continue to REFUSE to enforce the UN regulation requiring the partition of Israel into 2 separate states. And thereby proving to the arab world that in our eyes the arab interests are second to those of christians and jews. This perpetuates the belief that the US is a nation of hypocrisies (and unfortunately it is).
August 4th, 2005 at 9:08 pmwe have come to expect mind numbing stupidity from North East Dilemma, did I miss something or did someone usurp his handle?
August 4th, 2005 at 11:41 pmdicky,
NED has multiplied. There are at least 3 other posters who are just as ridiculously checked out… They all spout propaganda, ignore it when you prove them wrong, say the opposite of the facts directly in front of them, and then repeat the same lies a few threads away like they never heard a word.
It’s obvious that like all primitive brained creatures, their cognitive regions of their brain are disengaged in order to keep safe from the irrational fears that the truth brings!
August 4th, 2005 at 11:53 pmrn,
you missed my snarkiness.
If you check out the link ned provided, it takes you to the media matters. There is a piece on the evil bastard Dobson equating stem cell research with Nazi experiments.
It is not complimentary to the dumbshit Dobson, so it was out of neds character.
Anyway I have to agree that the wingnuts are masters at repeating the talking points and tone deaf at the same time. it is like a cult.
August 5th, 2005 at 12:12 amdicky,
Considering that the nazis were anti-abortionist right wing christian zealots, he would be the expert. Ironically like most freaks, he can’t recognize that he’s the sicko he sees in the mirror.
August 5th, 2005 at 12:53 amDesperation is a stinky cologne.
The right wingers are bathing in it right now. They just can’t let go the Clinton Diversion in their attempts to divert attention from that dimwit in the White House.
“Bill Clinton killed Wolfman Jack with a trident. I once saw Bill Clinton scissor-kick Angela Lansbury. Bill Clinton drives an ice cream truck covered in human skulls. Bill Clinton once hosted the Grammys and gave every award to Corey Hart. Bill Clinton’s family crest is a picture of a barracuda eating Neil Armstrong. Bill Clinton framed Roger Rabbit. Bill Clinton thought that “The Princess Diaries” was both a charming and sweet depiction of one girl’s emergence from youth into womanhood. Bill Clinton’s favorite movie is “One On One”, starring Robbie Benson.”
August 5th, 2005 at 11:19 am“I got a lotta best friends. Some I don’t hardly even know.
August 5th, 2005 at 11:40 amThat sounds more like Yogi Berra than Archie Bunker.
Let’s see:
1989-1993: Rafael Palmeiro’s slugging average balloons from .374 to .554 and number of home runs goes from 8 to 37 while playing for the Texas Rangers.
1989-1993: George W. Bush is General Managing Partner for the Texas Rangers.
August 5th, 2005 at 3:42 pmSarcasto, This is not the first time I have heard the connection between steroids and Bush. Recall when – out of the blue – he mentioned steroids in his SOU speech? That’s when I began hearing the connection — thanks for reminding me.
August 5th, 2005 at 7:33 pmRafael Palmeiro is an ultra right wing, fascist dirtbag. Like all right wingers, his only morality is simply that which advances his own cause.
For the first 9 years of his career, Palmeiro averaged 13.5 HRS, After age 30 (which is your prime for a bASeball athlete) Palmeiro averaged 43 hrs for 9 consecutive seasons. Duhhhhh He obviously took steroids.
Palmeiro is such dirt that even former teammates like Will Clark and Mark Grace will tell you that he’s a liar and a lousy person. And I’ve never heard anyone describe will clark and mark grace as liberal.
Palmeiro’s case is one of greed. He took steroids to make money and thus received contracts AVERAGING 5-7 million dollars more than his natural ability PER YEAR for AT LEAST TEN YEARS. That means he stole 50-70 million dollars.
Now that Palmeiro has been caught, he’ll continue to lie.
August 6th, 2005 at 12:47 pmSo we’re to believe that nobody ever committed perjury before Bill Clinton? That seems to be the logic here, just like nobody ever got blowjobs or had an affair before he was in the Oval Office.
August 6th, 2005 at 1:06 pmGawd, I read sensible posts like this, and the equally profound replies, and I fear that everyone else in the country, in the world, thinks Texas is a state full of nothing but birdbrains. And maybe we are, virtually speaking. Look at the absolute trash we have representing us in Washington. Bush, DeLay, Joe Barton, Cornyn, et al ad naseum. How frigging embarrassing for us.
August 6th, 2005 at 4:36 pmGeorge Bush hired Palmerio for the Rangers first…then
August 6th, 2005 at 6:49 pmhe said the other day…that Rafael swore that he did
not take them….and George believes him…so there!
Lol…what is Emmet Tyrell still doing even trying
to make sense…this man is about as evil as they come.
Oh come on, why are your JoBoxers even in a wad over this? If you knew the slightest thing about Emmett Tyrell, you could easily visualize the man, schnockered to the gills and emanating flammable breath, sitting in front of his CRT, looking at his deadline, and going, “Now whut kinneye write ’bout, hah? Whus’ the lates’? Oh yeah.. Rafuy… yell… Pomma… er, whatever. What the hell. Clinton did it! HAH HAH HAH! That oughta hold the little bastards for the night!”
Believe me, even they know they’re goofing at this point. Next tsunami…. volcano… whatever… “Clinton did it”. It’s one of their fave golden oldies, and no good performer will ever disappoint the crowd.
August 6th, 2005 at 9:20 pmQuote from Albert Swietzer: I am absolutely not saying that all Republicans are stupid people, but I am absolutely saying all stupid people are Republicans. A good Republican is going to believe what he wants to or is told to and they won’t let anything like the truth stand in their way. The American Taliban is alive and well in the Republican Party
August 7th, 2005 at 7:05 pmYou can expect this to happen in 2008 as well. Basically, they know that President Clinton has had high approval ratings (despite the scandal with Monica).
So they are trying to tarnish him so that he won’t be a good backer for any Democrats running for office.
Think about it, Bloomberg had Giullani back him for his run for NY Mayor which definitely helped him win the election.
If Clinton sans Monica scandal had backed Al Gore for President in 2000 (and I’m sure sans Monica scandal Al would have let him), we would have had President Gore in the White House.
That’s what the whole Monica scandal was about. Screwing things up for the NEXT Democrat running for President.
