The big problem with academic science and insider trading is that so many might do it, senior scientists with news at a meeting can act ahead of the public and Wall Street quite easily. The “Martha Stewart as example” case would be to charge someone who is on the board of a scientific/medical association – ideally, an expert on conflicts.
