It’s not an easy time to be a progressive in America. But things aren’t all bad, as a new study by the Center for Policy Alternatives called “Progress in the States” demonstrates:
Progress in the States describes 144 proactive, progressive measures that have become law, or will become law, in 2005. Overall, the study demonstrates the vitality and variety of progressive successes in the states.
The report documents successes at the state level on issues ranging from minimum wage to energy efficiency to prescription drug prices. Take a trip on the sunny side and check out the full report here.
Judd, how dare you post this! Don’t you know that everything sucks!
August 10th, 2005 at 4:40 pmThings are not as bad as they seem sometimes, and there is hope for the US. We just have to be persistant and keep up the good fight against those that would turn this into a fascist theocracy.
August 10th, 2005 at 4:53 pmI think it’s better that you realize. progressives could be Sweeping the elections in the years to come.

People are fed up with both the Republicons and the Republicons lite. The battle over issues among the growing number of Progressives should be interesting. I pledge to be civil in all discourse with people who declare a progressive agenda, no matter how much we may disagree of individual issues.
August 10th, 2005 at 4:59 pmMy very keen spider sense tells me we have more and more disaafected from the right visiting this site than have let on, for whatever reason; embarassed to admit it, afraid that Progressives are all Democrats or even “liberals”, not that there was ever anything wrong with being a liberal. Just as there is nothing wrong with being a conservative, but all the real conservatives are liberals now. This is good. I have hope for this country once again.
August 10th, 2005 at 5:04 pmHere here, Janitor; good progressive and positive thinking.
August 10th, 2005 at 5:26 pmAgree Janitor #4 on redefinition of terms, conservative and liberal.
We should start removing legislation rather than adding to the heap. Start with the Patriot Act (what a cynical title. It makes me sick!)
August 10th, 2005 at 6:31 pmMove on to prosecute and imprison the criminals enacting pork barrel legislation.
I might not be so ashamed of the Democrats, if most of them were like Paul Hackett. Iraq war vet who calls Bush a chickenhawk and worse, and soon to be the next Dem Senator from Ohio.
August 10th, 2005 at 8:04 pm[...] Montana recives an honorable mention inThink Progress’ highlight of a Center for Policy Alternatives’ report on progressive legislative victories in 2005. The piece seems to be consoling liberals that all is not lost. Fair enough, the national scence is ugly right now. Bolton, Roberts, CAFTA, and the Energy Bill to name a few problems. [...]
August 10th, 2005 at 9:45 pmBushCo passed a new bankruptcy bill and in my state of Illinois I am countering its effectiveness. I am petitioning the Governor to include debt education as a requirement for high school graduation. In addition to my petition many companies like National Legal Debt Centers have produced a program that works better than bankruptcy.
Bushie thought he was so smart by introducing legislation (not passed yet) that forces debt negotiation companies to be owned by lawyers. The lawyers are more than happy to do the job yet many wonder why Bushie would give lawyers more opportunity when he clearly stated in the Presidential Campaign that he hates lawyers. Guess he’s flip flopped on that statement.
Bushie can legislate all he wants but the progressive mindset takes action to counter his nonsense.
