Like Mother, Like Son

Why doesn’t President Bush feel obligated to meet with Cindy Sheehan during his vacation?

Remember this statement by his mother, Barbara Bush, on Good Morning America in March 2003:

Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it’s gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?

The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

waste my beautiful mind? is that verbatim?

  2. Judd Says:

    yeah, it's verbatim

  3. lee Says:

That's outrageous. What was Barbara thinking?

  4. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

Babs and her son, King George, are truely sick people. For them to think they are so much better than anybody else and that they can get away with thinking that all that matters in their small little worlds are their "minds" or "health"... gads. Its sickening.

  5. Nostradammit Says:

If you read Kitty Kelley's book again, or for the first time, you will begin to understand why she and Michael Moore are so feared by the Bush crime family. Everything they say in their books and his film is pretty spot on. Time tends to bear out most of their allegations and assertions. They way they try to portray Hillary in the media, that's the way Bar Bush is.

  6. GreatNate Says:

I wish the left would at least admit the truth -- that they don't really want President Bush to meet with Sheehan. They'd rather be able to criticize him for being "heartless" than have him actually talk to her. After all, that would show him for what he is, a reasonable person (who has met with several families of war dead). Like him or not, he just doesn't want to fall into a political trap of a long-time activist. He'd rather use his time to meet with families who don't want to tear down his presidency.

  7. Bob Says:

Ya all gotta recall that this is not a "ah sucks" family. The Texas affiliation is recent and for financial and political reasons. This is a NE family of wealth and privilege. They have been insulated from the realities of the world they are screwing over. Of course, Barbara has a "beautiful mind," she's lived in a beautiful world.

The son did not fall far from the family tree. This prez, due to his family history has never had to deal with the reality of the world. Heck, just look at how he stages his press conferences and "town meetings." They are all designed to keep the prez's world beautiful. No reason to let muck and bad stuff confront a man of his status.

  8. Xavier Says:

A friend of mine once made a comment about Barbara Bush that says it all: "A face doesn't get like that overnight."

  9. Citizen80203 Says:

    GreatNate

We on "left" had really no stake in dear leader meeting with Mrs. Sheehan. We only watched with amazement as idiot boy started bleeding like Dan Aykroyd's impersonation of Julia Child on STL, "only a small flesh wound" as now is bleeding out. Some trap he avoided, eh?

Furthermore, dear leader and puppet master dick are draft dodgers whose knowledge of "the troops" are par with yours; don't know shit. Go and serve and become a man/woman.

  10. Dartanyon Says:

Cackling Granny Babs and a beautiful mind somehow just don't go together. Try, Cackling Granny Babs and a breakfast martini instead.

  11. Ross Says:

Bar Bush and her evil uterus need to be tried at the Hague for the horrors they have uneashed on this earth. She is the poster child for retroactive sterilization.

  12. Jim Figgins III Says:

Wow, he's met with SEVERAL familes of the war dead. How big of him, considering he IS the Commander-in-Chief. I love these specious arguments: the left supports Cindy in her desire to meet with Bush because ... we DON'T want her to meet with Bush. in fact, up is down. Black is white. War is peace. Jesus, where the hell did you learn how to think, clown school? if Bush was reasonable, he WOULD meet with her, because it would most certainly be in private and then the White House could spin it to their hearts' desire and get back on message. But they won't. It's would almost be hilarious how W's pigheadedness and callousness is seen as resolve by the right, if it weren't for the fact that our soldiers are dying every day for a state that is probably about to become a pro-Iran theocracy. Congratulations W. You wanted Armageddon? you got it.

  13. Gary Kleppe Says:

I wish the left would at least admit the truth — that they don’t really want President Bush to meet with Sheehan. They’d rather be able to criticize him for being “heartless” than have him actually talk to her.

Arguments are so much easier when you get to assign your opponents' positions instead of arguing against their real ones.

So that's the truth, is it? Well, then, wouldn't the thing to do be to try to push the Bushies into actually setting up a meeting. If you're right, then that'll make your side look noble and ours look like utter fools when we pull back and suddenly aren't interested in a meeting anymore.

So how about it, hero? Call our bluff, because I'm calling yours.

After all, that would show him for what he is, a reasonable person

    HA HA HA HA HA!

Sorry, I can't read something like that and keep a straight face.

(who has met with several families of war dead). Like him or not, he just doesn’t want to fall into a political trap of a long-time activist. He’d rather use his time to meet with families who don’t want to tear down his presidency.

Where "tear down the presidency" is defined as "make him think twice about using our young people as cannon fodder in an illegal and immoral resources and power grab."

  14. Nostradammit Says:

Collected on the internet by Snopes in June 2005 Status: Incomplete.

I'm calling it Bushit. This paragraph tipped me off. Can anyone else see why? They way these people work is amazing, but understandable. Remember, Poppy learned all these tricks, including how to influence and steal elections (real democratic, eh?) as chief spook at the CIA for a number of years.

The information below is accurate. Former Pres. Bush Sr. and the current president Bush make it a point to thank and take care of the aircrews who fly them around [When the president flies, there are several planes that also go -- one carries the armored limo, another the security detail, plus usually a press aircraft] and both Bush's made it a point to stay home on holidays, so these Air Force and security people could have a day with their families.

    It's definitely "us and them".

  17. kindness Says:

Who here has read Al Franken's "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them"? Funny as all hell. But in it he has a chapter devoted to Barbara Bush. It is so funny! He talks about having met her on a flight and talking with her until she decides he's one of the little people and doesn't deserve her time. I laughed SO HARD!

This story isn't that far removed. If you haven't read the book, go buy it (go ahead, give Al the royalty money, he deserves it) or if you're a bushie type, go with Abbie Hoffman's advice & steal it. But read it & weep funny tears. Well, OK, you bushies will probably rip more of your hair out reading it, but hey, then we can laugh at you!

  18. Brian Says:

"Lies" is hilarious. If it is as honest as Franken, then Mama Bush is quite a C*NT.

  19. Zookeeper Says:

Barbara Bush's beautiful mind is apparently a festering, pus-filled, dripping horror. Like mother, like son...

    GreatNate:
Just like Galloway skewered Coleman with the truth about the war, Sheehan would skewer Bush with the truth, too. So you're wrong - we'd dearly love to see Great Leader meet with an articulate person who knows the truth, just to see his bloated house of cards come tumbling down.

  22. Keith H. Says:

    zookeeper,
    That's funny as hell, lmfao!

  23. Brian Says:

Somewhat related to this is the subject of prez. Bush's accent. It is a stark contrast to these remarks. I'm born and raised in Dallas, and that is not how people speak. Much less educated people. Not even people in Le Grange talk like that. Bush's accent is an imitation of someone imitating a Texan. That boy is lost. And it's no f*ckin' wonder.
    These people are nuckin futs.

  24. cynical ex-hippie Says:

  29. t Says:

I would like to thank all you idiots for proving that you don't know shit. Manufactured outrage aside; you morons just don't seem to get it. Americans support the troops and the war effort.

Cindy Sheehan has suffered a tragic loss and the left has been quick to take advantage of that loss for political gain. Fortunately, this stunt will backfire just like all the other ones. This is a losing prospect. I wonder why all your so called leaders on the left haven’t called for the President to do a repeat meeting with Cindy? Perhaps they know a little something that you don’t.

Isn't it strange how Cindy Sheehan gets this big megaphone; yet we don't hear shit from you assholes about all the parents and relatives who lost loved ones in Iraq and actually support the war? There are far more of people in this category; but they don’t fit your agenda. It is not transparent to those who live outside of the lefts little circle-jerk of Vietnam throwbacks. In fact everybody gets it but you.

Something else the left seems not be able to do is even be honest with themselves.

Before you start reciting the AP-IPSOS opinion poll on the change in numbers for the president and the war let me point out the following numbers that take the veil off the agenda driven results:

Here's the demographic data from the polls Top Line Results. Source http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/

2a. Do you consider yourself a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent or none of these? *

    REGISTERED
    VOTERS
    Strongly Republican .......................... 19
    Moderately Republican ..................... 20
    Definitely Independent/neither........... 11
    Moderately Democrat........................ 27
    Strongly Democrat ............................ 21
    Refused/not sure............................. 2
    Total Republican ............................ 39
    Total Democrat ............................... 49

    * Half the respondents were asked party identification in this location, the other half were asked at the end of the survey with the
other demographic questions. Results for the respondents who were asked the question early were 41% Republican, 47%
Democrat. For the respondents asked later in the survey, the results were 37% Republican, 50% Democrat.

Hmm, perhaps the move in numbers isn't quite as big as you think. But that's ok; keep fooling yourself. It's not as if your ignorance has helped the Republican Party up until now. Oh wait, it has! That really is progress!

You may now return to your regularly manufactured outrage.

  30. unkle adolf Says:

The Bushites are totally disconnected from reality. Georgie has recently been described as being "psychotic" (from an article on CommonDreams.com) and having no concept of empathy for others. This can be seen in his speeches - where Georgie jokes and laughs about "how hard it is" fighting this "War on Terror." This is the attitude of the so-called elite wealthy of America. Look at the attitude of Ken Lay (Enron) who can't believe that he has been charged with criminal acts - he keeps trying to push it off on others at that thieving company. The Bushes are simple souls - what they can't get by trading with the enemy (Prescot Bush and the Nazi's in 1942-'42) they take by other means (Georgie HW and the Contras). Georgie W is simply following in the footsteps of his forefathers - thieves all. By refusing to meet with Cindy Sheehan, he can avoid having to face reality. This is true of ALL Neo-Cons - not one can face the realities of the world without wondering how they can exploit the masses. Time to throw the lot of them out - including the Democrat Neos like Liberman, Biden, et al. Time to hold some new Nuremburg trials to punish the warmongers and clean house.

Georgie W is the arch-typical spoiled rich brat who has always had everything given to him and has not done a single day's lick of work. Witness his machinations with the Texas Rangers Baseball team. He was supposed to put up $50,000. He never put up a dime, but came out of it with $14 million. Not bad, huh? Too bad none of us will ever have that kind of luck. Time to go back to the true meaning of "with equality for all" and get rid of the mega-wealthy thieves that are stealing America.

  33. TruthToPower Says:

We shall not rest until everyone of theees treasonous lying bastards is behind bars for war crimes. Never give up, the truth and the entire world is on our side.

  34. SF_undeclared Says:

The scary thing about Barbara's comment is that it shows how the Bush family wants to accomplish their goal at all cost!!

Body bags and death toll are of course relevant. They are called Cost of doing business (I didn't mean it to be cold) and they are very relevant to any decision making. You can't just keep you eyes on the Revenue and ignored the cost!! I hope our first MBA "p"resident would at least understand that!!! Oh, I forgot, he ran several failed business!!

  35. Audrey Says:

I remember very well that when Babs made her "beautiful mind" statement, the media said very little about it. When Bill Clinton's brother Roger said or did stupid things and when Jimmy Carter's brother Billy was indiscreet, the mass media jumped gleefully on the stories. Perhaps the teflon Bushes will finally get their comeuppence. The cracks are beginning to show.

  36. JNo Says:

  39. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Lay off Barb. She rocks and she makes a great point.

Rather than say you oppose war - liberals have called Bush a liar even though Gore claimed that Hussein had WMD in 2002. You have exploited deaths, insisted on showing the coffins come home and gleefully cheered whenever the insurgents strike.

So if you are against war, just say it. Like Cindy Sheehan, you people don't want to get to the point. If you had you're way, this country would have never been founded.

Second, typical connie suck and shallow on your data. Search and search like a lost child, for something anything to make your arguments appear sound. Well weasel, they ain't. Consistently, all the polls show American's don't support the clusterfuck called Iraqi Nation Building.

True, there are families of the fallen in Iraq who believe in the mission. Finding meaning in death is always unimaginably difficult, and that's how they deal with it.

But SHAME on Bush and you right-wing chickenhawks who have LIED to those families to gain their support every step of the way.

  43. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

I am against the occupation of Iraq. Happy? People have been saying this for years now. Many protested before the tanks rolled into Baghdad.

  45. big dave from queens Says:

Not one child or grandchild of Barbara Bush ever served. (I don't count Georgie's AWOL Champagne unit)

Like all chickenhawks, they care only about power and money. They have such an elitist attitude that they think it's okay to use American troops as cheap labor solely to enrich the pockets of their buddies.

  46. Darth Filibustrous Says:

#40 - "Insisted on showing the coffins"

So you chicken-hawk right-wingers will sacrifice our sons in a war that makes us LESS safe, but you can't pay respects to them? Why is looking at the coffins making you guilty? It should if there's any humanity left in you.

  47. MisterB Says:

The Bush worship in this thread is nauseating. The usual nitwits are here, fawning at the feet of Mammon –mindless and frothing.
I won’t directly address them. It is an exercise in futility to try to convert the fanatics. If Bush were to tell them face-to-face, that he was the Devil, they wouldn’t care.

  48. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#45 - it's much better if you serve in the military, commit war crimes, come back home to slander you fellow soldiers inf front of a camera so you can jumpstart your political career. That's much better.

  49. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#46 - did you support Kerry? How could you support an admitted war criminal.

You people are such liars and hypocrites.

  50. Gary Kleppe Says:

Lay off Barb. She rocks and she makes a great point.

For some reason I can't picture Barbara Bush rocking. At least not this soon after lunch.

Rather than say you oppose war - liberals have called Bush a liar even though Gore claimed that Hussein had WMD in 2002.

Yet another brilliant wingnut argument. Neddy, even if this is true -- given your track record, I wouldn't bet the rent on it -- so freeping what? If Gore said this then he was either wrong or lying, depending on whether he had access to correct information. We know Bush had such access, so there's no doubt he was lying. What's more, Gore didn't give the orders to launch an invasion and occupation of Iraq. It's like the difference between saying that XXX is an SOB who deserves to be killed, and actually going out and killing XXX. The first may or may not be a crime, but it's certainly not the same magnitude of crime the second is, and the first certainly doesn't excuse the second.

You have exploited deaths, insisted on showing the coffins come home and gleefully cheered whenever the insurgents strike.

Cite any instance where we cheered when the resistance struck, you lying sack of shit.

So if you are against war, just say it. Like Cindy Sheehan, you people don’t want to get to the point. If you had you’re [SIC] way, this country would have never been founded.

If you had your way, this country would be run by an unelected fascist junta.

  51. Nostradammit Says:

The latest DSM V is about to be published. I don't think there will be a diagnosis in this one covering the delusional state poster "t" presents here and exhibits so illustratively in his comment #30, but I hope it is included in the DSM V R. Many lives could be saved the next time. God and science forbid there actually is a next time. Uncommon sense dictates that there must be.

  52. Matthew Says:

    T:

I'm truly sorry to tell you this, as you seem to need the illusion of great crowds of people at your back to feel comfortable with your opinion, but in fact it's not just the Associated Press that is tracking growing discontent with Bush's invasion of Iraq. Even the Rasmussen Poll, a GOP outfit, puts Bush's favorability number at 43% and support for the "war" in Iraq at 38%. That means that a healthy majority of the country is against both Bush and his little misbegotten adventure. So it turns out that the crowd at your back shrinks more every day, like an ice cube in the August sun.

Yep, echoes of Vietnam sound ever louder, but that's not because we want it so. It's just that the parallels are so eerie ... going in without a clear strategy and completely mis-reading the native population; a massive American army unable to subdue, much less defeat, the local opposition (in Vietnam, the Vietnamese weapon of choice was shit-smeared pointed sticks and in Iraq it's egg-timer and garage-door-opener-remote-control bombs); American swagger and optimistic predictions shown to be groundless ("light at the end of the tunnel" then and "last throes" now); and a slow but steady turning away by the American people from supporting the bloodshed. Now you can sneer at all this, but it's called history. Some people study history to learn. Some just sneer. But I guess you young people will have to learn the sad truth sometime.

By the way, kid ... since you "support" this adventure so much, how come you ain't over there? (As if I didn't know ....)

  53. Nostradammit Says:

  54. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Gary - no, if you had you're way some unelected fascist would run this country.

Bush was elected with 51% of the vote, 55 senators from his party and 233 House members. That was a historic feat and a direct result of the lying propoganda that you people were spewing last year. Issues matter less when your opponents are so unglued they would imply Bush knowingly allowed 9/11 to happen.

Remember this when the Supreme Court is packed with right wing ideologues. You helped make it happen.

  55. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Matthew - it's like you want us to lose the war. You HATE America! It's sick and disgusting.

  56. Nostradammit Says:

Let's behead NED. I think he already lost his head, so it's just a symbolic gesture.

  57. Nostradammit Says:

  58. Gary Kleppe Says:

I want the bad guys to lose. I always root for the good guys, whoever they are.

    Who are they?

  59. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#58 - in your eyes, the bad guys are the ones who favor democracy and freedom.

  60. Nostradammit Says:

This is what I mean about NED having lost his head already. When the very people you went to war to liberate (not the reason we were sold on, but that's besides the point) are the same people who are now killing you, you have become the bad guys. You are no longer a foreign army and liberating force, you are a foreign army and occupying and oppressing force. This is about looking tough and being a winner to you and Bush and people like you. That's a shame, because that went out the window when we went into Iraq. Should have stood pat in Afghanistan.

  61. MisterB Says:

    Facts - who needs em?

  62. Gary Kleppe Says:

Bush was elected with 51% of the vote, 55 senators from his party and 233 House members. That was a historic feat and a direct result of the lying propoganda that you people were spewing last year.

Nope. It was the direct result of rigged voting machines, disenfranchisement of minority voters, and other Republican cheating. No matter how many times you repeat your little lie, Neddy, we know the truth.

Still waiting for you to cite any instance where we cheered because the resistance struck. Put up or shut up, liar.

  63. Ellis Says:

Hey, righties ... if the shrub was so compassionate, empathetic, and in touch, how come he didn't utter a single word about the nut who trashed the Camp Crawford crosses? Without even meeting with Sheehan, he could have weighed in on the issue, shown he stands for peaceful protests, and displayed some human-ness. That would have been harrrrrrd work, though, since he has no compassion or even a clue. Besides, naps and bike riding are so tough.

  64. Nostradammit Says:

We are the bad guys now, Gary. Probably because the truth is we were only after the oil. Not our troops, but all of us as a nation, for allowing this slime to come to power and commit these crimes against humanity. We should all be ashamed.

  65. Keith H. Says:

    NED believes MSM.

  66. Nostradammit Says:

The oil and permanent bases, to protect and control the oil, after the Saudis kicked us out. Asked us to leave, whatever. It was never about the Iraqi people. They know that.

  67. Nostradammit Says:

Eat it NED. Kerry was right, Americans commit terrible war crimes. They did it in Nam. They are doing it today in Iraq, and there is nothing you can do to hide that fact from the world. America is the "bad guy" in this. OBL played old chickenhawk George just like a fiddle.

  68. Nostradammit Says:

    http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=SRTIGERFORCE

Read it NED, you little chickenhawk pussy bitch.

  69. Matthew Says:

    Dear Dilemma:

It's irrelevant whether I want the United States to lose the war or not. It's already lost. Bush is afraid to send more troops (the country would REALLY explode if that happened) and he says he can't pull the troops out. So the undermanned force that's there just keeps getting picked off 4 or 5 or 12 at a time. Another 5 killed today by another egg-timer-remote-controlled bomb. Bush has pissed off any and all allies who might once have helped. So it's all downhill from here.

That's what Cindy Sheehan is fighting against ... the tragic deaths and dismemberment of more young people. It doesn't have to happen, if you won't let it. C'mon, join the majority of Americans in standing against this madness.

  70. A Says:

NED said:Issues matter less when your opponents are so unglued they would imply Bush knowingly allowed 9/11 to happen. NED,it could be that you are so naive to the geopolitical situation of the world today to think they didnt know what was coming and that they would benefit greatly from it in their eyes.ignorance is bliss, i wish i was as blissfully happy as you.

  71. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#52 is wetting himself just thinking about Iraq turning into another Vietnam.

Gary - the only fraud and voter shennigans that took place on election day was done by Democrats. Partisan liar Christine Greg-whore got the true base (the dead and felons) of the Democratic party to vote in Washington state, a democratic operatives son slashed tires in Wisconsin to keep Repulbicans from polls and liberals were giving out crack in Ohio to get people to vote.

Gary - you are truly not dealing in reality if you think the election was "stolen." With the all the left-wing thuggery in the world, you still couldn't win.

  72. A Says:

NED is a disinfo expert. i hope his corrupt government is paying him well for having to comprimise his integrity and self respect.you righties all sound like sheep to me for some reason.

  73. CO Says:

ever hear of diebold and the people that own it? or do you close your little sheep-like eyes to that reality as well?

  74. Don Says:

And Rummy has recently said that KIAs are no more important than traffic accident victims or school openings.

"And I look at the situation and I -- in my mind, I think of the number of people who are lost to traffic accidents in the United States in a given year. I think of any one of our major cities, where two or three hundred people are killed by homicides. And you ask how long will we tolerate it? Now, if there were a daily report about the number of traffic deaths and if the television and the press were reporting these things and photographing them and the homicides, I don't know if -- Washington, D.C. had something like 230 homicides last year -- and if that were reported daily every single day, one would think that the effect might be that it would reduce the number of homicides or reduce the number of traffic deaths. But what's being reported is the fact -- not the fact that the schools are open, not the fact that the hospitals and clinics are open, not the fact that Iraq's got a stock exchange and that their oil and energy circumstances are proceeding apace, not the fact that tens of thousands of people are lined up to join the Iraqi security forces, not the fact that there's hundreds and hundreds of people running for public office and that there were something like 8 million people who voted in the last election on January 30th. Those kinds of things get relatively modest attention, and what gets the attention is the death of Iraqis and the death of coalition forces."

  75. Dave The Wave Says:

    Ode to a Beautiful Mind

Don’t tell me how many, what day, or when it’s gonna happen
who did this, that, the other and the body bag wrapping
to me it all sounds like one hand clapping
Such thoughts don’t trouble my beautiful mind.

Should I suffer just because their lives are in danger?
Do you suppose that I would care about a bunch of strangers?
Praise the lord, wave the flag, and pass the channel changer.
Ugly thoughts don’t trouble my beautiful mind.

  76. CO Says:

Dilemma said-and liberals were giving out crack in Ohio to get people to vote.
hey NED, did you hear the one about Reagan putting crack into Compton?

  77. Zookeeper Says:

#23 - Thanks, Keith H, I was going for the visual on Mama B.

  78. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#77 - actually, I thought it was Bush who dumped crack in South Central LA in 1990. Then, he put a gun to their head and made them do it.

All of what I said is true. Tire slashing, crack and Christine Greg-liar. You're Die-bold sh*t is something Ter-e-Zah came up when she was hungover from drinking her gin soaked raisins because she realized how much everyone hated her.

  79. Gary Kleppe Says:

#52 is wetting himself just thinking about Iraq turning into another Vietnam.

#52 may be an "I told you so," but not cheering. Nothing there indicates that the commenter is happy about the resistance killing American soldiers. You're a liar, Neddy.

As for the election, I tell you what. Let's change the law so that all ballots are on paper, and counted by hand, in public. Does that sound like a PLAN, sport? Write your Congressman and state lege to demand it. If you're so sure that your junta will win anyway, what have you got to lose?

  80. crazy much? Says:

    your a conspiracy theorist NED.

  81. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Gary - why would I want to change anything? By your standard, Republicans will win no matter what. That's comforting since Bush is vulnerable right now. At least I can count on Republicans to steal to stay in power.

  82. John Says:

Love B.B.'s tude . The "help" always enters unseen through the back door of the estate house.

  83. Gary Kleppe Says:

Gary - why would I want to change anything?

Because the integrity of the democratic process is more important to you than which candidates win? *snort* Sorry, I couldn't say that with a straight face. Okay, how about this: to prove me wrong and remove any doubt that Emperor Chimpy is a legitimate ruler.

By your standard, Republicans will win no matter what.

They won't win if we have honest elections. Obviously you're well aware of this.

That’s comforting since Bush is vulnerable right now. At least I can count on Republicans to steal to stay in power.

This is a case of what Al Franken termed "kidding on the square."

Thanks for the rare bit of honesty, Neddy. But you're still a liar until you can cite an instance of us cheering over dead American soldiers, or you retract the comment.

  84. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

I'll retract the comment. It was an expression, not a point of fact.

Gary, I am just trying to sum up the left's lunacy. If Bush stole the election, what good does it do to cheer when his polls fall and hold out false hope. AND if we didn't have honest elections in 2000, 2002, and 2004, why would we have them next year? Basically, you can't hold out hope to take back Congress and call Bush a thief in the same sentence.

  85. The Crapture Says:

It's typical of right-wing spin to conflate the target of criticism with something generally above reproach

i.e. if you aren't among the masses of kool-aid drinkers who lovingly and fanatically fellate Bush and the GOP, then you "hate America," if you question the administrations rationales for initiating the war then you aren't "supporting the troops" even though the right-wing idea of "supporting the troops" just means waving your flags and slapping on your yellow ribbons as opposed to stepping anywhere beyond hollow sentiment and actually DOING something or GIVING something

sorry, but in the really real world where actions have consequences and people i know are genuinely in harm's way because of some guy pretending to be a Texan, I'm not about to accept some bullshit notion that somehow George W. Bush is the literal, divinely appointed and infallible embodiment of America itself, and if you think those of us on the left in general are "cheering every time the insurgenst strike" then go f**k yourself with s rusty chainsaw, because simply pointing out that we told you so does not constitute "cheering" and if you actually had to worry about friends or acquaintencaes who are out there in the field, being right about the insurgency is a reason to cringe and wonder and worry about them.

  86. Matthew Says:

An "expression"? An expression of what? Sheer lies and filth, spewed out because you can't actually win an argument using facts?

That's why the Raving Right is so morally bankrupt right now. You folks can only spout propaganda, falsehoods, and smear. What you've tried to do to Cindy Sheehan has back-fired mightily. Calling a grieving mom an "opportunist" and other vile names has only caused her support to grow. But hey, keep it up ... it only helps our cause in the long run.

  87. Gary Kleppe Says:

    I’ll retract the comment.

    Thank you.

It was an expression, not a point of fact.

Now there's a line worth remembering.

If Bush stole the election, what good does it do to cheer when his polls fall and hold out false hope. AND if we didn’t have honest elections in 2000, 2002, and 2004, why would we have them next year? Basically, you can’t hold out hope to take back Congress and call Bush a thief in the same sentence.

Those are actually very good questions. I know that commenters here have been cheering over Bush's abysmal ratings and what it means for the Democrats' chances in '06. I've not been one of those people. I have in fact urged caution in some of those threads, that if we don't reform the electoral process then we could be out of luck once again.

That said, there are a couple of reasons for hope:

    1) States are slowly waking up to the dangers of unauditable voting machines. While nobody right now is going to the best solution, hand-counted paper ballots, a lot of them are at least demanding paper copies of the electronic ballots be printed.

    2) There's a limit to how much one party can cheat before it becomes too obvious. While the Republican leadership has no scruples about doing anything to win, the same isn't true of a good portion of the rank and file. If they get unpopular enough, they may need to let go of power to prevent out-and-out rebellion or even civil war.

  88. Alexa Says:

I felt terribly sorry for Cindy Sheehan until she somehow convinced herself that stepping all over her poor Casey's grave would somehow release him from his second enlistment. And if she's so damned concerned about not wanting another mother's son to "die for oil or US imperialism" let's drill in ANWR and every other American field until we can get ethanol (or vegan oil) up and running. Since "you the compassionate" are so superficial about BAR BUSH - do you think Cindy's evermounting, carefully orchestrated (not that a progressive isn't always spontaneous! HA!) public mourning/spectacle drove Mom to a stroke and Hubby to divorce court? NAH!

  89. Skid Says:

Congratulation Alexa, you jut posted the second most ignorant comment I've read all day!

ANWR will do NOTHING in regards to our consumption of oil for at least SEVEN years!

Mr. Sheehan has publicly stated that he supports Cindy's vigil and cause. People have strokes, especially elderly people. You should run that theory by Rushama Oxy Cotin though, if that's not where you got it.

  90. Matthew Says:

    Alexa:

As your senile old pal R. Reagan once said, "There you go again" ... confusing the messenger with the message. Cindy wants the answers to two questions: 1)what exactly is the "noble cause" in Iraq that Dear Leader is always going on about? 2) If the cause is so all-fired "noble," howcum your lovely early-20s daughters aren't over there taking the place of two stop-lossed soldiers who don't want to be there any more?

Cindy was devastated by the loss of her dear Eagle Scout, alter-boy son. In many such cases where a couple loses a child, the marriage founders. 78-year-old people frequently suffer strokes. But even if - IF! - Cindy's vigil directly contributed to those two events, it's still beside the point. Which is, Dear Leader has time for softball games and bike riding and endless fund-raising, but no time to meet with a grieving mom to answer two very important questions. (See above.)

Keep yer eye on the ball, not the propaganda.

  91. Skid Says:

Oh yeah, corn for oil alternative grows seasonally, as opposed to oil.

  92. twoplustwoisfour Says:

    #89:

Stop trying to change the subject. Do you have anything to say about Barbara's quote? Did you like it?

    Non-trolls:

Classic how they ALWAYS try to change the subject. Why give the initiative just because we have the perfect response? We will never convince them anyway. The rest of us know better.

  93. MisterB Says:

The quintessential Right-Wing answer to everything -

And the follow-up: "Oh yeah? Well, fork you!"

  95. Terrytheturtle Says:

I'm surprised Alexa hasn't called anyone an anti-semite yet.

  96. Dallas Gal Says:

#36 and #39. Neil Bush is in China working at a bank -- probably the one that was going to finance the company going to take over our oil company (can't remember the company's name) that was turned down.
REMEMBER -- HAVE TO KEEP THE OIL PROFITS IN THE FAMILY.

[01]09:43:54 FORMER FIRST LADY BARBARA BUSH, UNITED STATES
I watch none [TV]. He [Bush Sr.] sits and listens and I read books, because I know perfectly well that, don't take offense, that 90 percent of what I hear on television is supposition, when we're talking about the news. And he's not, not as understanding of my pettiness about that.

But why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that.

And watch him suffer. [Emphasis added.]

    - ABC/Good Morning America, March 18, 2003"

  98. Skid Says:

Its a power-stance disconnect from reality. Babs probably reads Mein Kamph or Lynn Cheney's American history books for children (which scare the crap out of me for their revisionism).

  99. Nostradammit! Says:

NED and Alexa, as bad as Saddam. They approve of rape and beheadings of innocent children

  100. Nostradammit! Says:

John Kerry doesn't approve of rapes and beheadings of innocent children. John kerry, better than Bush. Not saying much, almost anyone is better than Bush.

  101. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Gary - I don't think you have evidence that Republicans cheated. We do have evidence that Democrats did. Definitive evidence in Wisconsin.

I just don't get it. The "we wuz robbed" talking point is a proven loser for Democrats. In typical liberal fashion, you convince a segment of the population that they are being "held down" so they'll vote Democrat. THAT is a divisive strategy. And if there's problems in Ohio's inner cities - who's fault is that? They are run by Democrats.

A more realistic view might be that both parties are probably not completely honest on election day. Die-bold masterminding Bush's win is just a little too Oliver Stone for me considering the lengths I've seen Democrats go to in an effort to destroy Bush.

  102. sohei Says:

Rather than say you oppose war - liberals have called Bush a liar even though Gore claimed that Hussein had WMD in 2002.

So if you are against war, just say it. Like Cindy Sheehan, you people don’t want to get to the point. If you had you’re way, this country would have never been founded.

I oppose war - all war. I don't care who lied about what. I don't care if Saddam had 500 ICBMs and 1000 gallons of nerve agent. I don't care if he was the worse tyrant since Hitler. I don't care if he and OBL were f--k buddies on the weekend. War does not solve problems - it creates them. Violence poisons even the most worthy struggles.

If the Iraqi's wanted freedom, let them rise up and claim it for themselves - preferrably by following the example of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. What would America be like if the French had driven out the British for us in 1776, occupied us, written our constitution, and selected our first representatives? "Democracy" has to be earned and won by the people. "Freedom" can't be bestowed upon the worthy by Emperor George. But all that talk is just BS anyway, because Republicans are only interested in spreading their Empire and could give a damn about real freedom and real justice.

You have exploited deaths, insisted on showing the coffins come home and gleefully cheered whenever the insurgents strike.

You mean like holding our political convention in New York and mentioning 9/11 every chance we can get, complete with cheesy video "memorial?" Oh wait... that wasn't liberals. You're just aping Rush with this exploitation of death garbage - be original, at least.

  103. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#103 - Kerry admitted to war crimes - remember? Winter Soldier - the movie liberals with held from the public because they knew it would destroy Kerry.

At least Bush was just getting drunk somewhere. How bad does that bother you that he is our President? lol!

  104. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#105 - at least you can admit you oppose all wars. Fortunate for us, FDR and Truman didn't feel the same way.

  105. Peppy LaPue Says:

But why shouldn't the Queen Mother be allowed to let her beautiful mind drift off into wonderful places of blissful make-believe? It's not like she was using it back when it really mattered, i.e. while she was raising her son. Why should she have to think with it now? Cut the old broad some slack.

  106. Marie Says:

My god! I had forgotten that quuote by the mother witch. It has been often said GW is more like Mama and doesn't that comment prove it? I recall the horror I felt when I first heard it, but there have been so many outrageous comments coming from the Bush family that I had apparently forgotten that one from the irrelevant mother... of the past.

  107. Alexa Says:

Matthew, what IS beside the point is that we have an ALL VOLUNTEER military. My brother, Casey Sheehan and countless others chose to join - some join more than others. You may not like their choices - so what - they don't care what you think. If Babette and Jenna don't volunteer that's their choice - isn't choice what you guys are all about?? He met with Cindy once -should he have her move in with them? As for vaca, he's always on call - that should scare you to death - and don't you just love the Euro model of all play and no work - hypocrites!!! I get my daily dose of propaganda with the BBC EVERY day - it's soooooo negative I'm surprised you faithful adherents to government funded media aren't slitting your wrists in droves.

  108. sohei Says:

#107 - at least you can admit you oppose all wars. Fortunate for us, FDR and Truman didn’t feel the same way.

Yes, yes. Because Iraq is exactly like World War II... whatever, wingnut!

But what about my comment on the American Revolution? Do you think America would be as well off today if the French had liberated us from the tyrant King George instead of us doing the hard work ourselves? Don't you see that you can't simply grant democracy to people through horrific violence, like we've tried to do in Iraq? It doesn't work. Which is why this war is already lost. You, and other gung-ho armchair warriors like you, just don't know it yet.

I also notice you didn't comment on your party's exploitation of September 11th? Care to compare that to the left's "exploitation" of Cindy Sheehan?

Typical "pick-and-choose" troll argument style. Do you like abuse, or do you troll liberal Web sites because there's that little lingering doubt in your mind that says, "Maybe this war isn't such a good thing?"

  109. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

Marie - you must hate the fact that the two most popular modern day first ladies were Bushes. You must HATE that. It must bother you that the American public always rejects Democratic first ladies like b*tchy drunk Ter-e-Zah and divisive Hillary.

Barbara Bush is loved regardless of what you moonbats think.

  110. Terrytheturtle Says:

Nedster there's the RNC supported companies destroying Democratic voter registrations here: http://www.klas-tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=2421595&nav=168XRvNe

The illegal 'caging' of voters in Florida to add to the illegal purge of 93,000 black voters in 2000 http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Oct04/Palast1026.htm

Breaking in and stealing papers and computers from the Democratic offices in Toledo. Speaking of Toledo, have you heard of Mr Noe - add illegal campaign finance to the Bush-Cheney campaign.

Diebold - Black Box Voting and Howard Dean proved how easy it was to change the votes on a 'Topic with Tina Brown' on CNBC just before the election. Even you could do it Neddy. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/1106-30.htm

Anyway, if you were a dead soldier coming back from Iraq (hypothetically, since you a member of the 101st Fighting Keyboards) how would you feel if Babs didn't want to bother her 'beautiful mind' with your mangled corpse.

  111. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#111 - Democrats started the exploitation by prancing out the 9/11 Jersey girls and giving that liar Kristen "I voted for Bush in 2000, but oppose the Afghani war" Bretweister to attack the President on a daily basis. We responded and won and as usual, you can't deal.

  112. Nostradammit! Says:

    NED = Saddam. Neddam.

  113. Terrytheturtle Says:

Alexa, do you think Chimpy read the August 6th PDB "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US" or did he blow it off and ride his bike that day in 2001?

And do you think Babs will bother her 'beautiful mind' much if god forbid, you someday have something in common with Cindy Sheehan?

  114. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#115 - you're a digital brown shirt. Is that the right term?

I am sure some moonbat in here knows the exact hitler slur.

  115. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#116 - Cindy Sheehan is a liar and she's exploiting her son's death. Her family wants her to stop. Her unfavorability rating is at 50% among military families. Why are schilling for her?

  116. Terrytheturtle Says:

So the end justifies the means for you always Neddy, spoken like a true fascist.

  117. Nostradammit! Says:

#103 - Kerry admitted to war crimes - remember? Winter Soldier - the movie liberals with held from the public because they knew it would destroy Kerry.

So you admit the US commits atrocities and war crimes? Make up your mind.
At least Kerry was there to commit them in person. I wonder why he wasn't ever charged? Committing them from the safety of the White House is for chickenhawks and cowards. Denying it happens and is, in fact, directed by policy, is for idiots it like you.

  118. Nostradammit! Says:

    NEDDAM!

  119. sohei Says:

Democrats started the exploitation by prancing out the 9/11 Jersey girls and giving that liar Kristen “I voted for Bush in 2000, but oppose the Afghani war” Bretweister to attack the President on a daily basis. We responded and won and as usual, you can’t deal.

Are you saying it's okay to exploit death if someone else did it first? How juvenile! "Well he started it, mommy!" What f'ing difference does it make? Besides, Republicans were exploiting 9/11 way before the Democratic primaries - it's pretty much how they dragged an unwilling public into this war.

  120. Nostradammit! Says:

    NEDDAM INSANE!

  121. MisterB Says:

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DIGNIFYING THESE WINGNUT COMMENTS WITH A RESPONSE?

Sheesh! sorry for shouting but, if you'd just ignore them they might go away. They never listen to reason or care about facts. They always divert. It's just not worth engaging them at all.

  122. Nostradammit! Says:

    NEDDAM INSANE SPEAKS!

#116 - Cindy Sheehan is a liar and she’s exploiting her son’s death. Her family wants her to stop. Her unfavorability rating is at 50% among military families. Why are schilling for her?

  123. Nostradammit! Says:

We aren't dignifying them, we are mocking them. Reasoned debate is not an option.

  124. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#119 - you've got it wrong. You guys are fascist. You brought all this invective into politics after Bush "stole" the 2000 election. Conservatives just responded. AND as usual, liberal cry babies scream Hitler when they lose.

#120 - Kerry claims he committed war crimes, but he's such a liar you can never tell. Unfortunately, the nature of war can be ugly.

  125. MisterB Says:

Nostradammit! - I believe they cannot tell the difference. :)

  126. Nostradammit! Says:

Actually MisterB, I am trying, in my own limited way, to demonstrate, by parody and satire, that they are no different than the enemy they claim exists, that they may in fact have imagined and/or created.

  127. The Northeast Dilemma Says:

#122 - aside from your "unwilling public" swipe, it's called politics. Democrat "IT" boy of 2004, Michael Moore, claimed Bush had prior knowledge of 9/11. NO politics there, right. You gotta get a thicker skin than that if you are goint to dish it out!

  128. Nostradammit! Says:

Oh yeah, and with a few actual facts thrown in for good measure. NEDDAM! Address Tiger Force!

  129. Nostradammit! Says:

Michael Moore claimed Bush ignored warnings. I love the way these guys work, don't you?

  130. Nostradammit! Says:

NEDDAM INSANE! Did you see the movie!

  131. Nostradammit! Says:

NEDDAM INSANE! DON'T WASTE YOUR BEAUTIFUL MIND HERE! GO BACK TO LGF!

  132. John Q in FL Says:

    #39

Neil Bush, last I heard, was raking over the taxpayers of Florida with his software company that's selling test preparation software to the school districts of Florida. They "help" students prepare for a test mandated by his governor brother that has totally destroyed how the schools in this state teach, and keeps kids from learning anything except how to take the stupid test. So while he's raking in the bucks, all the school kids of FL are being left way waaay behind.

  133. MisterB Says:

I am afraid that many of them are in for a very rude awakening. I can't say I won't enjoy watching them squirm. I know I have over the last 5 years.

  134. David B Says:

Talk about irrelevant! Bob Dole and Barbara Bush in the same week. Nancy Reagan would make it a hat trick. Is that all you republicans have to offer is comments by your has been oldsters? Is Mimi still around for a sound bite?

  135. Nostradammit! Says:

If you are referring to Maimie Eisenhower, she would be a liberal democrat today, like Ike.

  136. MisterB Says:

Mimi Eisenhower might actually make sense and behave like a human being. Morality has gone straight out the window with Repugnicans. Torture? Mmm good! Depleted Uranium? MMm Good! Perpetural War? Mmm good! Financial ruin? Mmm good!

I'm making a beeline for Liberty, NeoCons. Join up or get the hell out of my way, else I will knock your asses down.

  137. Bushie Says:

I'm a Bushie and proud of it. I have a great big flag outside my door and 24 yellow ribbons on the back of my SUV -- that's how I support the troops. Quite honestly, I really don't care if they show coffins coming back from Iraq. Hell, if you volunteer in the military, that's the price you just might have to pay, and I couldn't care less if it upsets some liberals to see them. As far as dead Iraqis, I yawn. I'm a proud white American Christian, and I listen to Billy Graham's kid. Their religion is evil, and God is on our side. I really don't give a rat's ass if Bush lied about the whole damn WMD situation because the Iraqi people are getting what they deserve! They aren't reborn in the blood of Christ like I am and America is always right! Bush supports my viewpoint, and so I love him, and I'm devoted to him. I'll support him no matter what he does because he's a godly man. End times are coming anyway! You liberals just preach about girlie stuff like peace and love and miss the point. Might does make right! Just thinking about it makes my balls double in size! I hope Bush does use nukes on the diaper heads as he wants to do. Oh, just one thing, don't ask me or my kid to join!!!

  138. Nostradammit! Says:

What do you think Ike would think of Bush and the GOP?

But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything--even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.

  139. Robert M. Thacker Says:

If the war in Iraq is justified, why aren’t George W. Bush’s children over there fighting along side of their contemporaries? Perhaps the fruit does not fall far from the tree, and they are cowards just like their father, when he used his father’s political connection to get him into the Texas Air National Guard, and avoid serving in Vietnam.

You may say that this is the way things have been forever, the rich and privileged never serve; it is the way life is! I say, enough is enough. The only reason this war goes on is because the “privileged” in this country a hide behind an “All Voluntary Armed Forces”, and have no one at risk in this war. Perhaps we should bring back the draft or lottery, I am sure that would end this war one way or the other, in short order.

Please remember, Folks, the Vietnam War did not end because of the protests, but only when the military lottery exposed everybody equally to the fact that they too could come back in a body-bag. It was amazing how mothers and fathers with “privilege and influence” were soon on the phone to their congressional representatives demanding that the war end. God forbid my little Johnny could become a casualty of war, just like Clyde of the hills of Tennessee and Leroy of the Bed Sty!

Oops, sorry King George to disturb your vacation and “balanced” life style, but there are 1,862 U.S. Military Fatalities in Iraq (thru today), 13,877 U.S. Military Maimed in Iraq (Last DoD Update: 06-Aug-05) and 26,705 Iraqis Reported Killed (thru today), all for your lies, incompetence, and arrogance.

But Momma Bush taught you well, remember what she said on Good Morning America on March 2003?

"Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it’s gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?" Barbara Bush

Problem is George, you have no “mind”, or morals, or scruples, or values, or conscience, or courage. You, Sir, are a God damn coward, who will send others to war to fight and die for your lies, and you won’t even face the mother of one of your victims.

As for Laura, she may be a bit better because she has to deal with her motherinlaw, but she married the jerk - that stupid moron and she used to be a Democrat until she learned which side her bred was buttered. 153. ranting angel Says:

The rightwing warmongering chickenhawks have been wearing thin their welcome with the rest of America and are running out of plausible excuses and time for this bungled war of choice. Since it was not a war of necessity, for some time, thinking people have raised questions as to the reasons for it and as to how much should be sacrificed in lives and treasure for it as well. However, anyone questioning the war and/or Junior was ridiculed, punished, and called a traitor. But with the continued bloody mess grinding on and on, more and more people are growing concerned, including Republicans, and the pressure is mounting about the validity of this quagmire. The warmongers are bearing their teeth and lashing out and have stooped so low that out of desperation they have ganged up and attempted to slime the mother of a fallen soldier in an attempt to defend their bogus war, demonstrating once again their lack of honor and decency. Shall we call them the Swift Boaters Against Moms of Fallen Soldiers? Wow! They do our nation proud, don't they?

Their leader, Junior, could have wisely given up a few minutes of his time, which is being spent napping, biking, reading, and clearing brush to meet with Mrs. Sheehan and diffuse the situation. She'd be home now, and the story would be over. Imagine the photo op if he had a picture of himself giving her a great big bear hug and sitting down to speak with her. But, like his mother, babs, he is unable and unwilling to think about what is happening to real flesh and blood people and what sacrifices are being made on his behalf, and he cannot look people in the eye and defend his war of choice when someone's child has perished in it even if strategically it would help his war position and standing in the eyes of Americans, simply because there are no meaningful reasons for it and he lied to bring it about. On top of that, Junior is unable to think on his feet, especially if cornered, as is obviously the case when you think back to his staged town hall meetings or how he dodged the debates and then wore a wire.

So, out from his mouth, Junior, who once proclaimed he was a "compassionate conservative" to win votes, utters the hateful and repulsive statement that he must "get on with his life," and he hides from a mom who lost her son in his war. It's just too bad Casey Sheehan and the other dead troops cannot get on with their lives, right? Too bad they died for a pack of lies or some shifting/vague reasons that no one is certain or clear about, right?

If Bush is so certain the troops died for a "noble cause" and we are winning in Iraq, then it should not be too difficult to explain exactly how he came to that conclusion and to show the numbers that back him up, even in his limited capacity. Our young people died to stop terrorism? Where are the numbers that show that is working? They seem to be the exact opposite. They died because Saddam had nukes? Where are those nukes and why did he knowingly lie about the yellow cake? They died to free the Iraqi people? Then why is Iraq becoming a restrictive Islamic republic and friend to Iran? If we're winning in Iraq, why isn't even the road to Baghdad secured? Since everything is failing, should more of our kids give their lives on Iraqi soil?

So, watch Junior's numbers continue to spiral downward as Americans grow increasingly weary of this unnecessary blood lust and lunatic defenses of the war, and watch for those bullying, ignorant chickenhawks to become either more vicious and blackhearted or jump ship in the weeks and months to come. Hopefully, when the bullies bail out, they take the screaming meanies Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Leilly with them.

#93 2+2 - "Did I like what Barbara Bush had to say?" What a stupid question - until one considers how clever Progressives think they are. I have no opinion about her comment BUT I do UNDERSTAND it - before you hyper-ventilate -I will explain - slooowllllyyyy for some. This is a woman who lived through WWII. Like most of the young women of the day, she had friends, relatives and neighbors "over there". (I'm sure she worried about her fiancee, George I.) They saw the horror of those amputees or those otherwise horribly wounded. They do not need to see each horrible thing regarding war to understand it - because they HAVE SEEN IT! Perhaps you enjoy gory movies - I don't - but I know such things depicted in bloody scenes are apart of life and always has been. Some things are worth what you are not willing to pay - yet you enjoy the benefits purchased by the blood and sacrifice of others - opportunists!

#116 And, Terry the Ostrich, I could care less if Barbara Bush gave me her sympathy or not!! (I guess I'm not as emotionally crippled as some people who need constant strokes and LOTS of KUDOS.) SOME INSIGHT INTO THE BUSH MIND...
    http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7218.shtml

"Buy beleaguered, overworked White House aides enough drinks and they tell a sordid tale of an administration under siege, beset by bitter staff infighting and led by a man whose mood swings suggest paranoia bordering on schizophrenia. They describe a President whose public persona masks an angry, obscenity-spouting man who berates staff, unleashes tirades against those who disagree with him and ends meetings in the Oval Office with 'Get out of here!'

In fact, George W. Bush's mood swings have become so drastic that White House emails often contain 'weather reports' to warn of the President's demeanor. 'Calm seas' means Bush is calm while 'tornado alert' is a warning that he is pissed at the world.

Decreasing job approval ratings and increased criticism within his own party drives the President's paranoia even higher. Bush, in a meeting with senior advisors, called Senator Majority Leader Bill Frist a 'god-damned traitor' for opposing him on stem-cell research. 'There's real concern in the West Wing that the President is losing it,' a high-level aide told me recently.

'I was really very unsettled by him and I started watching everything he did and reading what he wrote and watching him on videotape. I felt he was disturbed,' (psychiatrist) Dr. Justin Frank said. 'He fits the profile of a former drinker whose alcoholism has been arrested but not treated.' Dr. Frank's conclusions have been praised by other prominent psychiatrists, including Dr. James Grotstein, Professor at UCLA Medical Center, and Dr. Irvin Yalom, MD, Professor Emeritus at Stanford University Medical School."

There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our overextended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"

  173. Kate Says:

just read through all the comments here - excellent discourse, even the back & forth with the trolls. nicely done, all. i'm a bit edgy today - i've had fighter planes flying not so far above me for hours today for the air & water show in town. at least they're not up there because they're being used for fighting, but, still, it's gotten on my nerves.

reading zinn's "the people's history of the united states" lately, thinking about how people like NED and alexa think they are the "winning" side. yet for all the foaming-at-the-mouth support of the right, they fail to see that the division they perceive is not a vertical one between left and right – it's horizontal, based on class. either you have wealth (thus power), or you do not. it's top or bottom, not left or right.

let's face it - ideologically, there is no difference between republicans and democrats. if there were, the democrats would have already taken hardcore, radical action against the war and other heinous actions of the bush administration, which they did not. in human terms, the people most personally affected by this war and by the recent dismantling of various social welfare programs are lower income people. where's their representation in washington? oh, right - THEY DON'T GET ANY, not when it costs millions and millions of dollars to run a campaign and wealthy billionaires simply need to buy their way into government offices. thus, everyone in those offices today, no matter whether identified with an -R or a -D after their name, is representing one segment of our society: government by the rich, for the rich, of the rich.

the middle class is an invention of the ruling class, designed to keep the poor folks from really getting down with a revolution and cleaning house like needs to be done. if the ruling class throws the poor folks a bone every once in a while and makes them think things are getting better for them, they're more complacent and less likely to rock the boat. the truth is that the middle class only serves as a barrier between the haves and the have nots, and the human beings that comprise it are totally expendible - illustrated by how callously the elites of this country are dismissing their relevance, a la momma bush's "beautiful mind" theory.

this is why cindy sheehan's steadfastness resonates with both those that vote red and those that vote blue - because it's not about party politics, it's about forcing the ruling class to verbalize the philosophy they have been acting upon for years. why did cindy's son die, and george bush's daughters not? it's because casey's options were limited by his income bracket, leaving the military as an attractive option for him, and the bush twins can do whatever they want because they have the financial support to do so.

everytime i hear a bush supporter gloat over "our side", i fucking crack up. alexa, NED - YOUR side? don't think for a second the people in power give a shit about YOU. your support of "our side" is nothing to them. YOUR side? REALITY CHECK: *YOU* DON'T EXIST TO THEM. think of it like this - just because you're a fan of the yankees, doesn't mean you play for the team. you're not a member of the ruling class just because you support them. you are just fodder for the machine, spreading their messages for them and helping make sure that the system we operate under right now in the u.s., supporting the opulent lifestyles of a few at the expense of the many, continues.

if that sounds like a good idea, i hope the responsibility of that choice falls on you. the rest of us are going to work on figuring out another way, because we're tired of it being our problem to keep these selfish fucks in business, and because our children deserve just as good as barb & jenna bush do.

  177. peacemaker Says:

Alexa, people that have God's true love in their heart, can't hate the way that you do. Jesus warned us that many will come in his name, and will deceive many. Because someone calls themselves a Christian does not mean that they are. Actions speak louder than words. Bush has shown nothing to me to indicate that he is a true Christian.

I believe that God is using Cindy Sheehan to remind us of his message - To remind us "blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God." To remind us that evil is all around us, in those that kill or condone killing and use their power and money to gain more rathen than to help those in need:

Matthew 5:31 - Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” 37Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” 40And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,* you did it to me.” 41Then he will say to those at his left hand, “You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.” 44Then they also will answer, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?” 45Then he will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.” 46And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.’

  179. afraidforamerica Says:

I have noticed that their is a major difference between the posts and the party the authors associate with. Let's not confuse two separate emotions/ behavior. The left reacts with anger in their heart; the right reacts with hatred in their heart. Anger is a legitimate response for one that feels wronged. Hatred is an irrational, fear-based, learned behavior that strikes out at anything or anyone whom they (those with hate) perceive to be a threat to them.

Why is there so much hate as opposed to anger projected from the right? Why do they live in so much fear? Why do they accept and tolerate their government's lies - is winning at all costs more important than the truth? It is a very frightening time in America. We're watching our rights being taken away, watching our fellow right-wing citizens blindly assimilate the propoganda being fed to all of us.

What happened to the real Republican party? Remember, the principles of less government, more state rights, conservativism (not radicalism), controlled spending?

Fear drives the right-wing, as it is the underlying evil that drives all bigotry, hate, intolerance, racism and all other irrationally-based beliefs.

    Goering said it best:

"Naturally, the common people don’t want war…but after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." --Herman Goering, at the Nuremberg Trials

  180. anothermomofasoldier Says:

Alexa, alexa, alexa...*sigh* another ignorant, white, racist, "christian," middle-class, uneducated person. You choose to believe solely what you want based on lies and hatred rather than truth and love.

Denoucing Cindy as unpatriotic, stating that her son would be ashamed - how dare you. If your child was killed because your commander-in-chief sent your child to die based on nothing but lies, would you not be outraged? Or would you just "get over it" because your adoration and sick love for this man you call our president is greater than your love for your innocent child and for the truth?

Cindy Sheehan is a hero, and she will go down in history as the woman, the mother, who stood up to the president, the one who sparked America out of its complacency and apathy and is instrumental in beginning to bring our troops home. She has done everything our elected leaders in Congress have failed to do. Americans have expressed their extreme displeasure with our government leaders - Congress' approval rating is less than 20% favorable. Why is that? Is it because our leaders are more worried about getting re-elected and staying in power than demanding truth, integrity and accountability of all those who represent the American people? Cindy has done more for our country than the combined lot of them.

Cindy is showing that one person CAN make a difference. As the right continues to smear Cindy, the majority of Americans will continue to be outraged. Outraged by your insensitivity, your hypocrisy, your ignorance and hatred.

Cindy's divorce has nothing to do with her anti-war stance if you must know. It has everything to do with the grief of losing a child, and of the pain so immense that you cannot possibly understand. Instead of bringing couples together, the loss of a child can tear them apart. I never understood how that could happen, until it happened to me.

God Bless Cindy Sheehan and all those who are standing up and truly supporting our troops by revealing the truth and bringing them home. Cindy is a patriot. Real patriots don't allow their leaders to lie and get away with it. I think you need to ask yourself, "who's the real patriot." If you answer that question honestly, you'll have to come to terms with the enlightening fact, that it isn't you.

  182. a friend of Cindy Says:

I just wanted to state that many on the right use Cindy's "supposed" family statement opposing what Cindy is doing as justification for their own beliefs.

Let's set this straight. The "supposed" family is not Cindy's family, but that of her soon to be ex-husband (and we all know how nasty people and their families can be in divorce situations).

    From Cindy's own words:

"Those are on my husband's side of the family. And we've always been politically on different sides of the fence...and another thing about that side of the family, they barely knew Casey. They barely had a relationship with him."

This is a woman who first lost her beloved child, is in the midst of a divorce, and who's mother recently had a stroke. Has Cindy wavered in her convictions? Not one bit. She's forging on because she's living what she knows to be true.

Ah, the right continues to reveal their hypocrisy and continue to show what willing, good sheep they are by believing everything O'Reilly, Rush, Hannigan and Faux News tells them. Its a tragedy for our country.

  183. Alexa Says:

#183 - Thank you for your colorful adjectives and suppositions, but describing me as "Christian" would come as a shock to my recently deceased Jewish mother. "Uneducated" - perhaps "poorly educated" is a more apt description as I attended a public "propaganda" university. Oh well, I respect your right to be stupid, just as you respect my right to be "ignorant".

I sympathize with Cindy Sheehan's loss of her beloved (and BRAVE) son, Casey. I have read accounts that he died trying to save others, and for that I hold his memory in the highest esteem. I also acknowledge that Casey re-enlisted, knowing what terrible dangers he faced and for THAT I rebuke his dear mother for not honoring the choices of her son. She should be able to meet with Casey's commander-in-chief again (!) when she can scream in the face of Saddam Hussein - or dig up the graves of his vicious spawn and spit on them. I lost a child in 2001 - my heart will be forever broken; yet, I bring no dishonor to my child's memory by blaming everyone BUT the killer of my child.

  184. Susan Says:

Alexa, please answer this question for me...if your criminal in charge has so much support for the war then why is he campaigning for support? I'm sure you've heard he is going on a 5 day tour to gain support.

When you have support for something there is no need to campaign, your criminal in charge has admitted defeat.

  185. Ian Crossley Says:

It makes me glad to see so many people realising what this Bush family has been doing to America. I would like to point out an often overlooked fact about George HW Bush. Back before the first Gulf war George Bush sent the ambassador to Iraq to meet with Saddam Hussein. Iraq was angry with Q8 because they were slant drilling oil. This is an action whereby Q8 stole Iraqi oil in huge quantities. Iraq also had a beef with Q8 due to the belief that the borders set up by the British and French after the fall of the Ottoman Empire wronged Iraq, Q8 belonged with Iraq.
Saddam was ready to take Q8 back and to punish those getting rich with Iraqi oil. This is what happened.... The US ambassador went to meet with Hussein and told him: "We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960's, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America".
The rest, as they say is history. Saddam invaded Kuwait and Bush said "This aggression will not stand". He read Saddam well enough to know that it was not too late for him to pull back the troops, it would be a mark of shame. Does anyone realise the imorality of what took place here? It could have been so easy to avoid war by letting Saddam know America would go to war to protect Kuwait. War could have easilly been prevented, instead war was hatched. If Bush was a real statesman he might have offered to broker a peace by applying pressure upon Kuwait to stop slant drilling. He might have further advanced our intrests by befriending Saddam and by becoming business partners encourage him to treat people in a humaine manner. We will never know what Iraq might be like but one thing is for sure, Iraq would be a happier and more prosperous place and America would not have spilled so much blood and lost so much national trasure. Why did the poorly equiped and trained Iraqi soldiers have to die in such numbers? Why did so many children and innocents have to die in such numbers. Why did so much of Iraq's infrastructure and historical places have to be demolishe by our superior forces?
    Ian

  186. cynanne Says:

i have nothing but sympathy for ms. sheehan , and a far colder feeling for those that would attack her for grieving her son . i suppose these same people would have spoken kinder words had she just ' gone away ' , like all those other fallen soldiers families ...

  187. Arliss Says:

George W. definately gets his heartless attirude from his mother. Even his father, George H.W., is NOT as heartless as the mother and sons.
GHW had more respect for the CIA too.

  188. Susan Says:

What kills me about the chickenhawks is they always say that Cindy is dishonoring her son.

Cindy knew her son, the chickenhawks can't even begin to understand what it is to be a soldier.

Find a new rant chickenhawks, you didn't know Casey and you have no clue what a soldier does or feels as you are too chicken to fight a war.

  189. Alexa Says:

Susan, My brother returned 10 days ago from his third tour since 9/11 - once to Afganistan - twice to Iraq. He knew what he was getting into. I'm also thrilled you weren't in charge of news transmission during WWII. War is not a field sport to be analyzed play by play like a football game. (The continous loss of battles during the first year of WWII might have forced the faint of heart to throw in the towel - those men had moms, too.) I know lefties love everyone except conservatives - but is there anything you consider worth dying for? Anything bigger than you?

  190. rallypoint Says:

one of the reasons that the crawford vigil has gone on for as long as it has is because w's advisors are unable to handle this. The situation has passed the point where a face to face would have had any credibility. The mavens in the white house lost their chance for great pr on this...but none of this matters anyway.world events are sweeping us all to a vortex that cant be stopped.think of the internet as a massive tower of babel, and if you all dont know what happened there, thats like way too bad.....but at least it gives everyone a chance to vent, huh?

  191. Sandy Says:

Iam stupified and numb by their crass pomposity!! The whole bush family is truely demented and sadly we must put up w/them..I only hope and pray that he and the whole bunch is put out on the street real soon.Their wake up call is waaaaaaay overdue. It is depressing for me to see, read and live thru all of this real bad stuff.I hope Cindy Sheehan can muster up Americans to finally cause some shakeup in the WH; but I doubt it, they seem to be inpenetrable. SAD SAD SAD day at black rock!!!!

  192. nokneejerk Says:

I got this link from Daily Kos.
I was expecting someone to put this quote in context, but knee-jerk reactions are all I've found.

She was talking about punditry and pre-war analysis, not her feelings or empathy with the citizens of a country during war. The war wasn't an issue for her, it was a given. It was a misquotable but fairl direct answer to a question about how much television she watched during the build-up to the war.

  193. CalBear Says:

Isnt it funny how those who support the Iraq power grab are quick to label anyone who opposes it "the left" and "liberal".
Sounds exactly like a dittohead who was educated by Fox "news".

For those who explicitly condemn the Bush family, does it occur to you that the Bush family is a cog in a bigger wheel. The same ones that got us into Vietnam are the same ones who are making the $Billion$ mysteriously disappear from Iraqi funds.
How many billions of our tax dollars are "missing" now?

  194. Mimi Schaeffer Says:

    Yep, like mother like son.

    Barbara is a "disassembler."

What's supposition about actual body bags and actual dead soldiers...?

  195. KJ Lovell Says:

I loved it when Bill Clinton, after being called "son" by that mother of a shrub told her a joke about

---"the bushes will DO ANYTHING TO GET ANOTHER PRESEDENT in the family"...

He is ALL CLASS. I love the man. Tells them to go to hell and they actually look forward to the trip.

As far as bab's "beautiful mind", pleezeee! They tell America lies, soldiers die and she says that "is not relivent"....

Goes to show how much contempt they have for the American People!

  196. KJ Lovell Says:

    #63- KUDOS!

    Rigged voting machines and

As the REPUG-nican's won't talk about... the Felon List from all across the nation that disenfranchised thousands of voters if their name even resembled a name on the list.

Come one people, I own a business that was watching the 2000 election and ALL WERE SUPRISED (PUGS AND SMARTIES) when Dumbya started squalking IMMEDIATELY AFTER Florida was called for GORE!.... EVERYONE, EVERYONE SAID THAT SOUNDED like he KNEW SOMETHING.

  197. KJ Lovell Says:

p.s.: Who exactly was it at FAUX that "corrected the call"?????

    DUMBYA'S COUSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

COME ON PEOPLE... IT IS BUSH-IT!

The very state in question is governed (sic) by his bro., and the station that calls the state for dumbya is run by his cuz????

If one person calls you a horse, pay no attention.
If everyone you meet calls you a horse, LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

  198. KJ Lovell Says:

Off the point.... Did you ever notice that Babs looks like the quaker oat man?

  199. KJ Lovell Says:

#45 - it’s much better if you serve in the military, commit war crimes, come back home to slander you fellow soldiers inf front of a camera so you can jumpstart your political career. That’s much better.

    Comment by The Northeast Dilemma

Are you making an observation about DUMBYA? Because he NEVER SAW ACTION MUCH LESS RESERVE ACTIVITY... BOYS AND GIRLS CAN YOU SAY AWOL?

  200. KJ Lovell Says:

ACTUALLY, it is MUCH BETTER if you tell America the truth.....

MY FAMILY STANDS TO MAKE GREAT MONEY FROM A WAR, YOU'LL BACK A WAR IN AFGANISTAN, BUT NOT IN IRAQ, BUT WE NEED TO TAKE OUT OUR DADDY'S SADAM TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD'S SECOND LARGEST OIL RESERVES. SO, I WANT TO KILL THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS TO FIGHT AN ILLEGAL WAR, I LOVE TORTURE, SO I WILL DETAIN DISSIDANTS AND SEND THEM TO COUNTRIES THAT TORTURE. WE ALSO STAND TO MAKE BILLIONS FOR MY FAMILY AND CRONIES BY THIS WAR SO PLEASE BACK US.

MY DADDY'S COMPANY AND THE BIN LADENS THANK YOU FOR THIS WAR. AND P.S., IT REALLY PISSES US OFF IF YOU TALK ABOUT OUR CRIMES.....

IT JUST ISN'T DONE, AS MY GRAND PAPPY FINANCED AND BACKED HITLER AND MANAGED THE COMPANY WITH SLAVE LABOR FROM CONCENTRATION CAMPS TO WORK IN FACTORIES IN GERMANY, WE JUST DON'T WANT IT TALKED ABOUT. AND THE MEDIA COMPLY. WHY CAN'T YOU?

  201. KJ Lovell Says:

of course, that little monkey boy that tortured animals as a child won't ever tell the TRUTH.

Let's face it, most little boys that torture animals don't grow up to be p-RESIDENT,

THEY USUALLY GROW UP TO BE SERIAL KILLERS...

    food for thought.

  202. scullygrrrl Says:

To afraidforamerica, I understand what you're saying and I know most libs don't hate these chickenhawk scumbags, but I DO!!!! I hate them with every fiber of my being. I wish them all into the deepest pit of their own hell!

We libs NEVER wanted this war. We knew it was war for empire and profit. These vile, rightwing pussbags screamed for war, creamed their pants at "shock and awe," then cowered in their BARCALOUNGERS while letting the children of the poor and lower middle class do the actual fighting. Cowards! Traitors!

May they suffer like the innocent Iraqi families do for supporting these criminals.

I hope all you rightwing bastards pay for what you've unleashed on the world.

    I'm NOT kidding!

  203. Death Says:

    Death to the Bushes!!

  204. dracula Says:

WHY SOME PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION TO BARBARA BUSH?
SHE IS NOT LESS NOT MORE THAN A FARTHING SENILE.....

  205. jurassicpork Says:

"I miss my beautiful mind." - The Girl With Gold Boots.

    Mystery Science Theater 3000 ref.

  206. bill Says:

Barbara Bush has always been a sarcastic, snarling windbag who doesn't give a rat's rump about anyone or anyting outside her sychophantic circle. Her children are losers, and even her grandchildren share the family's substance abuse genes. If you want to understand the personality defects and intellectual shortcomings of her son, the president, you have to look no further than the bitter matriarch herself. Geoge senior must rue the day he decided to sell out his life for marriage to that woman.

  207. Jacques Graber Says:

"So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
    Barbara Bush
    "Let them eat cake."
    Marie Antoinette.
We know what happened to Mme Marie don't we?

  208. DBW Says:

    Wake Up Americans:

    1. We went to war with a country for a reason that did no exist. Even the after the fact reasons were corrected when challenged.

    2. We paid xxx Billion dollars to support the war.

    3. How much is gasoline today in your neighborhood? Mine is up about $1.25 - $2.50 (per gallon)

Now count what the war costs in dollars...

Yep, that is just a daily cost.

And now add that up for the length of this excursion into Vietnam-Baghdad-Pakistan soon to be IRAN WAR on Terror a.k.a. The Bush Wars...

    What we got left...

Oh yes, those young people who die every day on Televison (the ones we whould be seeing every day so that we can rembenmber as a country what this war actually DOES COST us).

Now - How many Americans who supported the war to "Free" the Iraqi people from terrorism have kept up with the number of Iraqi's that have died so far since this war was begun...

    How many give a damn?

Now, I tend to think that we are at war because most of the honest god-fearing people in the great country of ours honestly don't know a thing about the world outside their immediate neighborhood, but they do feel informed when they read an article or adopt a child in a foreign land who they will never see.

But again, how many of these people have thought about the number of souls they have collectively sent to meet their maker?

    Think about it...

  209. Pierre Says:

Funny, Mother Bush should add insult to injury in such a painful context - no, tragic.
This kind of attitude and statement clearly show how scum the rest of the Americans are to the Bush monarchy. We, the people.......

Never has the word democracy has been used so much in vain by this administration, never are the poor and helpless citizen of this country have felt left-out, never have the neo con made so much money on an illegal war that has killed over 2000 US servicemen and women, never have I seen such arrogance in pursuing such a criminal act.

Al-Quaida is no match for Bush. Bush shall however be punished in due time by the American citizens who will use American laws.

This administration has been a disgrace to the human race. Hell cannot burn long enough for the damned.

  210. Stephen Says:

    Hello!
I hate war, I hate peace. I hate yelling, I hate crying. I hate sitting, I hate watching.
He is our president. Do you think he wanted this on his shoulders upon election? I know we all loved 9/11, right? Stand behind someone - take your place.

  211. bill Says:

    Stephen,

To carry out his own neocon-influenced agenda US President George W. Bush deliberately set our own house on fire, assuming that we would have no choice but to help him put out the flames. He did this in order to destroy the current American way of life and to build a new house - a conservative, commercial, WASP one dominated by the love of money, power, and self-promotion - and the more profit he and his friends can make along the way the better he likes it. They are laughing all the way to the bank. He would also not hesitate to set the entire world on fire for the very same reasons; he smirks at the rest of the world. This delusional, bible-reading, church-going demagogue is no less the enemy than the criminals who attacked the World Trade Center - only your fellow citizens elected this one to do what he's doing. Bush got the US into this mess, and I'm content to let him dangle slowly in the wind even if he tries to get us out of it. If he wants help and pity let him turn to his mother. As you sow, so shall you reap. And goofy, supercilious, condescending Bush is the Grim Reaper. Stephen, did he want this burden on his shoulders? You bet he did. Unless I'm mistaken he bit, clawed, and scratched for years to achieve just that. Now let him enjoy every horrible morsel of this bitter meal he's concocted. According to his doctors his health is fantastic, so he appears actually to thrive on what he's done.

  212. ts Says:

"waste my beautiful mind? is that verbatim?"

What cave do people live in?

"That’s outrageous. What was Barbara thinking?"

What were Marie Antoinette or Hitler thinking? What can you expect of a woman who kicks dogs and raised scumballs like George, Jeb, and Neil?

"I wish the left would at least admit the truth — that they don’t really want President Bush to meet with Sheehan. They’d rather be able to criticize him for being “heartless” than have him actually talk to her. After all, that would show him for what he is, a reasonable person (who has met with several families of war dead)."

Well, moron, then since he DIDN'T meet with her, it shows that he isn't reasonable. And he DID meet with Sheehan and her family, and called her "mom" and generally acted like the asshole he is.

"He is our president. Do you think he wanted this on his shoulders upon election?"

Yes, Stephen, Bush wanted to invade Iraq since BEFORE he was Resident; 9/11 just gave him the opportunity -- that's the word Condi Rice used at the first NSA meeting after 9/11: "opportunity".

  213. ts Says:

"I also acknowledge that Casey re-enlisted, knowing what terrible dangers he faced and for THAT I rebuke his dear mother for not honoring the choices of her son."

Fvck you, you monstrously disgusting ignoramus. If Casey were still here and it was some other mother's son, he would have been on the line with her, right next to Cindy.

"I bring no dishonor to my child’s memory by blaming everyone BUT the killer of my child."

Saddam didn't kill Casey, Bush and Rumsfeld did by creating this war and sending Casey into a fire zone. More immediately, he was killed by the followers of Muqtada Sadr, who were unleashed after privatizer-in-chief Paul Bremer called for Sadr's arrest because he wasn't toeing the invaders' line. Sadr is a Shi’ite cleric; Saddam was a Ba'athist. I know that means nothing to you, because like most of Bush's drooling felchsuckers, you're an ignorant cretin.

  214. Phyllis Says:

Bush told his biographer in 1999" If I ever get the opportunity to invade, I will use the political capital I gain from it to accomplish everything I ever wanted to accomplish" Well, he got his invasion, he and Condi orchestrated it. He got his power, and he got his way. The Bush minds have never been troubled by reality, insulated as they are by all their wealth and privilege.Barb's grandchildren will not suffer from this war[and even if they did, Im not convinced the cow would care]Bush's twins will not die for his"honorable cause". And he wont talk to Cindy because he is a coward.

  215. Bill shanks Says:

Why ! Oh! Why do these supporters or should I say fanatics who support Burnin Bush think that everyone who objects to his way of doing things is a Lefy?? thats all I read these days if you object to W ur a Lefty's this the Lefty's that. Well the sooner the right wing neo nazi jerks should realise the only reason and the only reason America went to war was the Almighty Dollar!! Mr Busy boy Bush who could'nt run whore house seen the Oil Patch and just about dropped his drawers Like Yale days!!!!. George why oh why can you not admit your buddys who have financially backed you all your miserable life told you to be a good old boy and get us that oil!! How many company's did he run into bankrupcy 4 5 6 we foget these things but then we elect him or we sit back and let him steal the Presidency. I just dont know folks its time for a change in American politics and I think its time it happened quickly.. PS. how many of the Bush 19 or 20 grand kids are in the army or Iraq?? just curious ..Billy D

  216. woody Says:

I feel the loss of all the soldiers and how families are having to deal with that. Me lossing a father to war has been tough. Here are the issues that we must confront first.

    1. The middle east and how dictatorships/fundelmentislm effect the world today and 20 years from now. If you do alot of research on the middle east, the present form was created by the colonial powers of France, Britian, the Dutch, and Italy. This was due to the breaking of the Ottoman Empire ( a European dominated Muslim Empire) after WWI. By getting the breakouts each country setup a seperate group to be in charge. Alot of these were Monarchies ie Kings and Sultans. These countries were forced and I mean forced to include tribes and sects that don't even have ethnic workings. The Ottoman Empire was controlled by fear and that has been the way the mideast has been controlled since. Anyway we all know that Isreal was created by the UK at the end of WWII and many of the other countries were set free to there present governments.
Then came Nassar- and Pan Arabism- this was influenced mainly by the Soviet Union but Egypt, Syria, (Jordan to a certain extent), and Iraq. What they believed was a big country of sorts that would be all Arab. Again Arab doesn't mean Muslim. Baathism is an outgrowth of that movement. The major defeats of the Isreali Wars were big blows to this and fractionalism has been big because of that. Baathism is a Stalinistic society very similar to old Red China and present day NK. Terrorism was being funded by Iraq and Syria as it is done today. With the advent of a new fundamentalism that was produced by Iran and even sponsored by the US in places like Afganistan this has been very interesting. Once people get to talk to individuals who live over in places like Iran and such they start to understand that power that the top of governments have and the people don't is really becoming difficult to deal with.

    2. How do we move them on- Interesting delimas will start to spring up for many of the Arab non-democratic nations. They know they have been fostering negative societies and putting much of the blame on there economies (Egypt), social plight(Iran), and lack of democracy (SA) on the US. The US has dealt with each nation as a chip rather than as partner. China is doing that right now in what is described as Oilnomics. If we push for more freedom or equality the countries throw out that wouldn't work or you don't want Iran. So we just did business as usual. Then sept 11th came. We had to take a look. We can destroy any country and kill every inhabitant in that country without one Nuke. We don't do that because we believe that people are descent and freedom loving and if we give them a chance it will turn out all right. What we don't have hear is the domination and subjigation of different groups over time. If we can help these people in Iraq power share, develope true systems of law, and give them equality and hope you will see things start to change.

That is the goal and it is a very important one. Oil and natural gas are going to be more and more important in the future. The only way you can: A) make people share that wealth is a free society and B) make sure that money is not used for terrorism (like it is in SA right now by some of the shieks and princes) is to get these countries moveing the right way.

So how do you knock a guy off the top if he doesn't want too and he has the power to stay there.

    You go to WAR.

    That is it.

    Good night.

  217. AdonVenegas Says:

    What a crock of sh--.

Y'all liberals are so twisted that you lie without any thought about it.

Americans are catching onto you...that's why you got yourselves booted out of office (ala Daschle) last time around!

  218. Bill Says:

Barbara Bush is a ninny and a half. Tonight, 6 September 2005, she has just said about those suffering from the Hurricaine Katrina disaster and who now living in stadiums and shelters that "they were underprivileged anyway, so this is working out really well for them."

I have nothing but contempt for that old woman and nothing but pity for her husband. Now you see where her son's idiocy comes from.

  219. Alexandra Castle Says:

Did you all ever notice that when W is talking about death and dying he has a smirk on his face. I have watched it for years. As for BB, she even says W is her spawn and gets his vacant mind from her. I don't think we'll ever get to impeachment but I have to say that I am ashamed that he is President of the US and I don't think history will be kind to him.

  220. WhatThe Says:

If I remember correctly, during that same interview Bush senior said of the impending Iraq situation something like...
"We've gone to war before, like Vietnam, and everything has turned out alright."
I am paraphrasing but the jist of his comment was unmistakable.
At some level, you have to think that these are deeply ambivalent and somewhat evil people. Evil becuase of the inhumanity exhibited towards the everyday folks who have to make sacrifices at their whim.

  221. suzette Says:

Your soviet propagana simply amazes my common sense. Why not take this bull poop back to your sweet MOTHER russia. Buy land over there and see how far you get.

  222. Rayilyn Brown Says:

It is long past time to impeach chickenhawks Bush and Cheney. Bush is stupid and Cheney is evil.

High crimes: Lying about WMD, preemptive war, biggest national debt ever, tax cuts to wealthy, torture of prisoners, thievery with Enron, no-bid conracts Halliburton, outing Valerie Plame, warrantless wiretapping, Arab nation running our ports, incompetence Katrina, stifling stem cell research on faith based notion cells are people, violation of church and state, promoting creationism in science classes, bigotry against gays, disregard of environment because the rapture is coming.

    What does it take?

  223. Sam B. Laden Says:

You liberals really are destroying this country. I thank GOD that people like Sean Hannity have the guts to stand up and speak his mind the way he does. Finally, someone has come along in the media to tell the truth. Some people have labelled Sean Hannity as a liberal because if we wasn't, he'd have a "real job." I don't agree with this because what Hannity does is a service to America and GOD bless him for doing it.

Stop picking on Bush's mother. That is tasteless and rude. My Christian upbringing taught me to treat other people with decency, but it's quite apparent that you liberals have no moral backbone and fling hurtful, ugly words at people without any forthought. You should be ashamed of yourself.

And stop picking on Rush Limbaugh just because he had a drug habit. Its very stressful doing what he does for a living because he's constantly harrassed by liberals like you, just for speaking the truth about black people and Jews and gays.

If you can't take the heat, then don't dish it out.

    -Sam
