I suppose it is easy to sideline Robertson as simply a lunatic with his own TV station, except when you see stuff like this. Can anyone describe how influential he is with the current administration? And what does this call to break one of God’s Commandments have to do with Christianity?

“In his 1986 presidential campaign, Robertson claimed that he was a ‘combat Marine’ who had served in combat during the Korean War. This claim was a lie, typical of others told by Robertson. However, this was one lie that he could not get away with — there were Marines who knew Robertson and who knew the truth.
The following is a chapter from the book The Taking of Hill 610 And Other Essays on Friendship, by Paul N. McCloskey, Jr. (1992; Eaglet Books, 580 Mountain Home Road, Woodside, CA 94062). In this chapter, the author lays out the facts of Robertson’s Marine Corps service. Pat Robertson’s father was a US senator who intervened with the Marine Corps to have his son assigned to duty in the rear, away from combat. Robertson served in Korea as the ‘liquor officer’ — responsible for keeping the officers’ clubs supplied with liquor. There he also was known to drink himself and to frequent prostitutes — he even feared that he had contracted gonorrhea.”

August 23rd, 2005 at 1:34 pmThe spanish language is full of words with many meanings depending on the context in which they are said. What Chavez said was a manace: Bush, no sea usted tan pendejo! There is difficulty in translating this to the english, since pendejo, in Venezuela, generally means “retarded”, “slow witted”. When said in this context it would mean something like: Man: Give me all your money and I will make sure you are treated well at the hotel. Other: What? Do you consider me a moron? See? There is a difference in that the attitude in this case was menacing. That is why everybody has translated the phrase as asshole, which would convey the meaning better.
In the case of Saddam, he went to the Bagdad airport and drived the Mercedes Benz himself to pick up Chavez. The photos are there. maybe he didn`t call him brother, but he treated him like a lady. Or, like my friend says: Saddams does not let just anybody board with him in his Mercedes Benz!

August 25th, 2005 at 3:48 amI have read and listened to some of the comments to PR’s comment. I need to familarize myself more with the “Chavez” situation but…I, too, thought “we” used “this” method if needed. I remember thinking, before the war started, “why couldn’t the CIA just go in and take out bin Laden and whomever, and save the lives of the young men that will have to die a war. Now when I read some of these comments, I wonder if I’ve had evil thoughts! I do consider myself of at least, average common sense” while acknowledging that there are many situations going on that I probably have more opinions on than facts (like many) I have about come to the conclusion that a huge part of our society are just “Drama Queens” so to speak. Oh my goodness, Pat Robertson said this, Hilary Clinton stands by her man, Bill Clinton did this, and on and on and on we go…do you think this is because we, as a whole, are so stupid that the media has to sink to our level or is it vice versa?

If we were back in Old Testament times it would be a rightous thing to kill a king giving away the land, but were not. We are in a Spiritual relm. Christ was a contract, when the nails were pounded into him we entered into this Spiritual contract. Under the old law he birthed himself in a literal woman, now he births himself Spiritualy in us and we fight the good fight against our own flesh every day. It’s not about literal land, when Jesus said befor Pilot, if my people were of this land then would they fight. I know that all Jews now days are not like the Old Testament Jews and some have gotten alot worse like the ones praying for the death of the priministers.
