Apparently you can’t even pay TV networks to cover genocide.
American Progress created a television advertisement for BeAWitness.org, our netroots campaign that calls out the television news media for their deplorable coverage of the genocide in Darfur. Over the last few days, three Washington DC television affiliates, NBC-4, CBS-9, and ABC-7, informed us that they refuse to air the ad.
Since the major networks seem to have their hands full covering stories like Natalee Holloway and the Runaway Bride, the ad does what the media won’t — puts the spotlight on Darfur, and suggests that genocide warrants increased coverage.
ABC News broadcast just 18 minutes of Darfur coverage in its nightly newscasts in all of 2004 — “and that turns out to be a credit to Peter Jennings,” as Nicholas Kristof pointed out. NBC News featured 5 minutes, and CBS only had three, “about a minute of coverage for every 100,000 deaths.” Now they won’t allow us to pay for 30 seconds to urge better coverage of the genocide.
Send a message to NBC, CBS and ABC demanding that the stations air the ad.
Here are the official responses from the networks:
NBC: WRC-TV has chosen not to accept the submitted commercial advertisement, “Genocide is News,” sponsored by BeAWitness.org.
CBS: Management did not approve the airing of the “Beawitness.org” spot.
ABC: I just got word that WJLA-TV will not be able to accept the creative for Be a Witness.org. Please let me know if there may be any alternative creative that we may run.

BushCo owns and runs the airwaves of America. The EVIL EMPIRE dictates what it wants its proles to see and hear.
August 23rd, 2005 at 12:58 pmI fully agree with this one. The MSM is a disgrace in this sense. I’ll send an email. I am also sick of hearing about this CT gambling drunk on his honeymoon. I feel bad for him, but come on. The media shouldn’t be so narrowly focused on human tragedy. Darfur is a much better story to follow.
#1 - get a grip for god’s sake!!! It’s not always Bush. God, you people are unglued!
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:11 pmThe group producing this ad are affiliated with Center for American Progress, which I have a problem with. I don’t have a problem with the ad itself and the horror of the Darfur genocide. I have a problem with the Center for American Progress. This is a quote from their website, which does not mention Iraq on main page. I had to do a site search on the word Iraq to find this quote.
“Today we face a crisis with grave implications for our national security and the future of the Iraqi people. The Bush administration’s mismanagement of post-war Iraq has left the United States unprepared for the instability that continues to grow. We can still succeed in Iraq and fulfill our commitments to the Iraqi people, but it will require shifts in policy to better manage the political, security, and economic aspects of Iraq’s transition to sovereignty.”
This is what I can’t support. The idea that the Iraq war is a problem because we just need to do more fighting there. The neo-colonial view that we can “..better manage the policial, security, and economic aspects…”
is mispeak for we should own the world, we deserve to own the world, and Bush just hasn’t done the job right.
This makes me hurl almost more than the Bushies.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:16 pmMy suggestion would be either to contact John Conyers or Cindy Sheehan about this…see if either of them will at least make a statement about it.
The media has learned that to ignore either of them…usually means that they’ll regret it later.
Just a suggestion.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:16 pmWow, I’m agreeing with Ned too, both points. I’m looking out my window for the airborne farm creatures. I prefer SCLM instead of MSM, but there you go…
Last week, I understand Bob Costas refused to do a Larry King fill-in because it was on “missing white girl” last week. Bob, I hear Peter Jennings’s slot is open…
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:18 pmAnybody catch the latest missing white girl story? Here’s the twist, it is a guy. So, now we have a “missing white boy” case.
When will this shit stop?
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:18 pmThere’s a missing white boy from Crawford texas. He’s up in them thar hills of Ideho
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:20 pmDave - lol!!! Yeah, John Conyers - known partisan liar and race-baiter and Cindy “anti-Israel” should be followed with a microphone wherever they go. Conservatives can only hope so.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:21 pmCMW - I clearly see your point, but I can disagree with them on that and still work with them on the other. The Holloway story is out of control. I couldn’t even watch Hannity for weeks because of it. It’s plain nonsense if you ask me.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:23 pmOK, now Ned’s gone off the rails. Normal service is resumed. How did a charge of anti-semitism get into a discussion of the news media? Let the record show Ned started the ad-hominem insults first.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:24 pmI would agree with the above statement. The MSM has become obsessed with the Holloway, Honeymoon Murder, Runaway etc. Those really aren’t news stories after awhile. I think we need to rethink some of the standards of what news really is. I think that genocide, where ever it is taking place, deserves to get out.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:24 pmYou couldn’t watch Hannity? Gee i’m so… sorry?… for you.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:25 pm“and Cindy “anti-Israel—
This is a bold face lie that the right wingers continue to promote. NED, everytime you post that, you look a little more stupid. But, we all know that the right wingers love those NAZIs. “If you tell a lie enough times people will start to believe it.” That is exactly what NED is trying to do. Good little NAZI. I find it interesting that you put anti-israel in quotes, implying that you don’t believe it. Was that a Freudian slip?
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:29 pmSue the bastards.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:30 pmI’m sorry - did she not say Israel leaving Palestine would stop terror?
I was responding to Dave’s crazy comment that the more you hear from Cindy and Conyers, the better it is. Sure …. for conservatives!!! lol!!
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:31 pmYeah Ned, those poll numbers have been shooting sky-high for bush and his policies since Cindy started her vigil.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:38 pmAnd why is suggesting that Israel leave Palestine anti-Semetic?
Ned… BushCo does own and run the airwaves!
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:41 pmNed’s gone off to Israel, I’m not going there in this thread. I somewhat agree that Dave’s comment doesn’t help much: why should Conyers and Sheehan have anything to do with the media’s idiocy? Write to them yourself and tell them to cut the crap or you’ll stop buying loans from Ditech, or whoever else is advertising on their site. Ned’s probably right that “missing white girl” is doing Hannity no good: Hannity, Blow Reilly and all of those clowns are seeing their ratings drop like a brick in middle Amurka http://startribune.com/stories/462/5569938.html
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:41 pmNED go over to some asswipe blog like powerline..you aren’t welcome here scumbag….
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:46 pmAh come on headxray, was that necessary? At least he is here reading it and debating it, rather then glued to fox. The more he reads, the more he’ll learn.
“All we need to do, is make sure, we keep talking.”
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:51 pmNED:
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:52 pmA: that e-mail “from Cindy” is an unverifiable third or fourth party copy, so it very well could be (and most likely is) a forgery. She claims not to have written it and the person who brought it to the public arena, amazingly, can’t find the original. What a coincidence!
B: Saying that Israel should give Palestinians their land back is not anti-Semitic. I happen to agree and my name is Rottenstein. Does that make me an anti-semite? Get your head out of your ass!
C: John Conyers is not a race baiter any more than Cindy Sheehan is an anti-semite!. Again, your head is in a very dark place and appears to be there by your own free will and design.
Mack, you need to back that up with some facts or you are just another Ned and I know you don’t want to be like him/her. Why is Darfur not on the waves and Greta Van Susteren in Aruba all summer?
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:53 pmNed agreed with me, and that’s scary. Hopefully he misunderstood my point.
August 23rd, 2005 at 1:57 pmOh, yea, the original post was about Darfur and the lack of coverage. That right-wing trick of diversion nearly worked again. We really do need to target the networks and, more specifically, their sponsors to demand that they cover the atrocities. Enough with the phoney human interest stories already. If we are truly interested in humanity, this has to be addressed immediately.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:00 pmDemand that they cover Iraq. Darfur is genocide, but so is Iraq. We get nothing about what’s going on in IRaq from mainstream. And the group behind the ad is all for more troops in Iraq. So be careful. All is not what is seems.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:02 pmFalluja was genocide. Where is the Center for American Progress regarding Falluja. Nowhere. Silent. They want more of that. More troops so we can establish security in IRaq. Spare me. I don’t trust this group and their concerns with Darfur. There’s something darker behind it. No pun intended.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:04 pmTurtle,
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:05 pmBushCo is in power because of the corporations that helped put them there… it’s not like they won even one election, more like gerrymandered two of them. They are all feeding from the same trough.
If anyone else out there has “On Demand” there is a great documentary in the Discovery Channel link called “Promises 1″ and “2″ about kids in Israel/Palestine. It was fascinating to watch and very informative about the issues.
Just thought I’d pass it on.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:07 pm“did she not say Israel leaving Palestine would stop terror”
That doesn’t make her anti-isreal you stupid fuck.
“Ah come on headxray, was that necessary? At least he is here reading it and debating it, rather then glued to fox. The more he reads, the more he’ll learn.”
Actually no Elvis. NED never has learned a damn thing. His head is so far up the NeoCon ass that he doesn’t comprehend reality. He is a worthless piece of shit. He should be put out of his misery.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:08 pm#18
Ned… BushCo does own and run the airwaves!
What? So that is why the MSM is so nice to him all the time? Who are you kidding and what koolaid are you drinking?
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:11 pmWe whouldn’t be surprised tht the MSM can’t take the heat. They prefer to run the sensational, the sympathetic, and the stupid stories of the day rather than something important.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:14 pmThe networks will have to hear from the public (i.e. hit them where it hurts) before they will change their mode of operation.
I agree with CMW. Not that the Iraq thing means CfAP should be discounted completely, but it is something they need to account for, and be held accountable for.
As for Neddy once again going off the deep end, I think he was making “an expression, not a point of fact.” Which was his own euphemism for his being full of you-know-what.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:17 pmThe major broadcast networks are in business primarily to make money. They do that by selling time to advertisers, the rates based on viewership.
Negative news may put some people in a funk, a negative mood. When they are in such a mood they are less inclined to buy the advertisers’ wares, and there’s a good chance they will change channels because they want to be entertained, not saddened.
Therefore it is in the advertisers’ financial interest to discourage networks from carrying negative news, and they rule.
The result is that we don’t see people bleeding and dying in Iraq, and we don’t see the genocide in Darfur.
It would be shocking if we did see it because it is not in the newtworks best interest to aggravate their advertisers by doing so.
Complaining will get us nowhere. We’re up against a financial reality. The only rational coarse of action is to throw out you teevee. The only real news is on the internet.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:20 pm[…] critical of news coverage. There’s nothing to criticize the networks about, people! We’ve got Missing! White! Wimmin! and Shark! Attacks! to cover! And our own culpability in the Iraq fiasco to ignore. Continuing genocide in Darfur is totally unnewsworthy and we are above reproach. […]
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:23 pmThat’s MSM for you. Is ThinkProgress surprised?
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:26 pm#29, OK Mack, but I still don’t see the linkage between the SCLM and Bush and why this is relevant to Darfur? What does Bush benefit from the SCLM keeping Darfur off the waves? Your statement implies that Bushco (define please) is telling the SCLM exactly what to put on day in and day out. Now I grant you Fox is a Murdoch comnay and Murdoch does pick a side and run with them every day.
Red you can see has bought the SCLM stuff. Red doesn’t agree that starting with disgustingly shoddy coverage of Election 2000, the SCLM has handed Bush a near free ride thanks to 9-11 for nearly five years now. Red does not wonder why instead of asking the tough questions prior to the Iraq war, they let distortions, lies, shoody intelligence and deceipt have a free pass in the cause of ‘patriotism’. Judy Miller and her awful WMD reporting - New York Times unapologetic. Wall Street Journal op-eds vitriolic about anything remotely anti-Bush. Dan Rather - nailed to a cross for crap reporting, but the story itself never investigated. Swift Boat distortions. It could go on, but I suggest you read some Alterman who is much smarter than I. http://www.whatliberalmedia.com/
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:28 pmTHis focus on Darfur is another distraction away from IRaq. Not to deny Darfur. But it’s being used by Center for American Progress to draw attention away from Iraq debacle.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:52 pmThat’s how Bush benefits. Criticism of msm over Darfur distracts from msm and Iraq debacle.
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:54 pmWhile most of the blame goes to the networks rejecting the spot, I wish they had used “fake” newscasts rather than actual footage of Brian Williams, etc. — maybe it wouldn’t have made the difference, but I wouldn’t have expected the networks to run ads directly criticizing their own.
crnw — explain to me again why I’m supposed to be more concerned about Iraq than Darfur? Because the civilians in the latter are not fully human (seeing how more of them are dying? Because the blood of Americans and Iraqis is more valuable? I think that quip you made about skin color might be more telling than you care to admit.
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:12 pmJake, I feel that Americans, whatever color, are more important than anybody from another country. Then after Americans it is anybody else who is in need, such as Darfur.
But, we are at war in a couple of countries right now, so I am more concerned with these places more.
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:23 pmJake
I didn’t say be more concerned.
But I will explain it to you in two words - my son. I’ll add two more words Casey Sheehan, and another name Sherwood. There are 1800 names for you to care about. Don’t preach your love of humanity to me. I don’t believe it.
Nough said
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:46 pmand jake
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:49 pmI mean what i say. When i said no pun intended i meant it. Read what you like into it if it serves your purposes. You want to make a point. Make it. Do you think Darfur is more important than Iraq?
Why not re-edit the spot MINUS the sarcasm about MSM, despite the fact that we know they are braindead? Our goal is to raise awareness about Darfur isn’t it? I would ask CAP to be noble, re-edit the spot and resubmit.
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:50 pmBe noble? Have you gone to the CAP website. THere is no mention of Iraq unless you search for it. They are for more troops, to bring democracy, security, economic stability yada yada yada
August 23rd, 2005 at 3:53 pmWhy are we surprised that these stations would not air such a truthful commercial? It is bad marketing on their part and because the news is business to them, running this commericial would be bad for business. Why would they want to educate people on real news when they can educate us about how they havn’t found Natalee Holloway and how the Runaway Bride is mowing lawns for her community service. These are the news stories that sell! That we can all talk about around the water cooler with no real controversy. Isn’t that what news is all about? *Smile!*
News is a business and as long as it makes money they are only going to have tabloid type stories dominating the airwaves. Darfur is not sexy enough to be on the “news”, now Michael Jackson. . .that’s sexy.
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:10 pm[…] There was a time when liberals (like those that grew up and now run the MSM) were the ones that highlighted humanitarian crisis’. Those days are no more. The MSM is interested only in stories that tell the story it wants you to know. Read this report to find out what ABC, CBS and NBC think about Muslims slaughtering Muslims in Africa. […]
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:17 pmSpudgeBoy,
No kidding. And Olivia Newton-John’s boyfriend is now missing.
Oh wait…he’s been missing for almost TWO MONTHS! Now it’s headlines?
ooof
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:19 pmnow Michael Jackson. . .that’s sexy.
Urp. Lunch… coming… up….
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:23 pmI can understand the “mainstream” media not airing anything negative on BushCo. They are competing with Faux News, you know, on ass kissing. The stations in Salt Lake City yesterday refused to air an ad by Cindy Sheehan.
But, hey! They got plenty of room for his vacation pics and speeches up here at Tamarack Lodge, Donnelly, in good ol’ rightwing Idaho. They even noted that his bike was carried up here on Air Force One to Boise from SLC. He was here in the capital only 5 minutes, though, just long enough to get into his helicopter with Gov. Kempthorne.
The news media notes that his bike was not on the helicopter, but was being transported up north in a black SUV.
I guess there just wasn’t enough room for coverage of Dufar, genocide, and the dead or dying soldiers in Iraq.
Pass the taters.
a helicopter
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:24 pmJust watch Hotel Rwanda to get an idea of why the US isn’t interested. “You’re not even a *explicative*, you’re an African.” The First world leaders couldn’t care less what happens over in African nations with no oil. Sad but true. Can we pressure them to tell us important world events? We can’t even get them to tell us about important events right here in America. The only solution is to call up your cable company kill the connection and let them know why.
August 23rd, 2005 at 4:26 pmcrnw, yes, CAP is a *liberal* think tank. It sounds like you’d be happier with the moral ‘purity’ (and utter irrelevance) of a group like International ANSWER. But trashing CAP for not being sufficiently radical is as pointless as trashing the Democrats for not being truly “left.” CAP is the Democratic Party, and neither have any possible reason to want to “distract” people from Iraq.
If us progressives keep agonizing and in-fighting over differences, instead of focusing on our commonalities, we’ll keep losing.
August 23rd, 2005 at 5:34 pm[…] Network affiliates refuse to run ads critical of their coverage of the crisis in Darfur. […]
August 23rd, 2005 at 5:43 pmI gave up on broadcast news a long time ago. They don’t care all that much if we don’t watch their packs of lies.
August 23rd, 2005 at 5:58 pmWhy is everybody so upset about the Bush twins not enlisting? They can’t - they’re felons.
August 23rd, 2005 at 7:01 pmNED thinks he is a great wit–LOL, lol, lol, after every other lame, predictable outburst. If this is the humor of the right wing, I’ll gladly stick with Maron and Franken, etc.
Also, please acknowledge how this weasel managed to divert discussion away from Darfur and onto the well-worn subject of the media’s complete triviality and irresponsibility. Oh, and John Conyers is a ‘liar’??? Compared to Limbaugh, Bush, Perle, Cheney? NED relies on party line regurgitations and sophistry. He has nothing else to offer.
August 23rd, 2005 at 9:02 pm“If us progressives keep agonizing and in-fighting over differences, instead of focusing on our commonalities, we’ll keep losing.”

Couldn’t have said it better.
August 23rd, 2005 at 9:20 pmsome jackass said:I couldn’t even watch Hannity for weeks because of it. wow, because of just the Holloway case? not because of the sheep like qualitys of the hosts?
August 23rd, 2005 at 9:40 pmWhy are you doing the Evangelicals dirty work for them?
In point of fact, the situation in the DR Congo (Congo-Kinshasa) is worse than in Sudan.
Now, be terribly, terribly real with yourselves.
Why do you think Sudan is more important than Congo-Kinshasa?
==
Answer? The Evangelicals and oil-men and the anti-Arabists and the remember-UBL-was-in-Sudan folks are in agreement that Sudan is bad, and they have convinced you, even though DRC is worse.
Don’t be a stooge for the man.
August 23rd, 2005 at 9:48 pmWhy the media is spoiled?
August 23rd, 2005 at 10:50 pm1) all major newsmedia–controlled by zionist Jews-owners and most reporters
Cure—TAKE AND THIN IT OUT
2) 2 parties-fund the media ,with election $
Cure—-only 3rd parties can advertise
3) Major network–owned by Military supplier
Cure–roast the ceo and hand it over Cindy Sheehan
No more kidding folks–AmeriKaKa will not change–state of Israel. Those Stars of David on our faded, tittered flag-sure needs replacing–how about wih yellow bannanas!
We cannot allow this to continue.
Major changes to TV are coming soon so we must act fast to adopt a concrete plan if we want to control some of the spectrum. Anything less than getting a Fair Media Act passed will be a failure to gain equal footing in the public forum of mass media for the average American. see: http://www.fairmedia.org/
We cannot allow this to continue.
August 23rd, 2005 at 11:11 pmWe are going to miss an opportunity to actually change the situation if we don’t move fast.
The airwaves are going to be digitized, we could establish a few new TV channels that are totally controlled by the general public if we act fast but we must act.

Bread & circuses for the pleb!!!

“God” promised Israel to the Israelites in Exudous. He also turned Lots wife into a pillar of salt, spoke to Moses through a shrub, created man and earth in seven days, and on and on and on. The old testiment is ***ALL*** a farce, including the part about Israel. Technicially the orgy loving Canaanites have got an older “historical claim to the land” too.

Why stop at the “old testament?” How is the “new testament” any less of a farce? It’s got virgins being implanted with an immortal god’s son, water turning into wine, a guy walking on water, and a disappearing corpse. Tell me how that is any more rational or believable than the “old testament.”
August 24th, 2005 at 1:25 am“ABC: I just got word that WJLA-TV will not be able to accept the creative for Be a Witness.org. Please let me know if there may be any alternative creative that we may run.”
Have we given ABC an alternative creative? One that doesn’t directly attack them?
Also, I have a Darfur fundraising project (poker tournament with sponsors as the buy-in) that I would like some media attention for. Who do I contact?

August 24th, 2005 at 4:15 am“Since the major networks seem to have their hands full covering stories like Natalee Holloway and the Runaway Bride, the ad does what the media won’t…”
Don’t stretch it to far guys. Neither of the two topics are taking up time on news stations. Certainly not to the extent that your are implying.
True though, that it is sick that the stations won’t devote a little of their “workd news” hour to the horrors in Africa!
August 24th, 2005 at 7:07 amI see all the problems America has in it’s own country and it would be best if you tend to your own high crimes within your own communities before pushing your own type of justice down others throats. No point in going into the long and short of it all but your very corrupt government is the last choice should make for a fine example for delivering order and fairness. Half of your own bought and paid for administration should be standing beside Saddam at the world courts and not your Bush’s Bank Inc. mobile justice system.
August 24th, 2005 at 9:08 amCheney’s Oil Shop is still open for bidness I see.
The corporate controlled media has zero credibility. The best thing to do with thier garbage is to throw it out. Take your TV to Goodwill and be done with it!
August 24th, 2005 at 11:14 amLet’s be truthful. The Big Four are bought and paid for by the Bush Administration. Where was the Fallujah Massacre coverage, ongoing Rove coverage of major federal traitorism, the 2004 Presidential vote scandal, the ongoing John Roberts background truths, the lies about the reasons to fight in Iraq, the ongoing losses of our Constitutional Rights, the 911 coverup(s), just for a few of the daily sins of this Administration and their crony news networks. The Big Four show all sorts of daily Bush vacationing but refuse to even investigate the lead-up to an Iranian invasion that will affect the entire world. Shame on them for making news totally suspect, unbelievable, and forcing Americans to use the Web for getting at the truth. They should fold up their tents and just go home. Their circuses are out of season. After well over 400 years of news, they have managed to ruin their reputation(s) in just under four years. And no one in any of the four organizations dare openly complain for fear of losing their careers.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:41 pmI speak, of course, of CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox.
God help America, we are losing damn near everything.
I will inform if this free speech statement is met with federal interference.
Tom
I am not aiming to deviate from the subject, so please excuse me for pointing out the obvious lack of knowledge regarding Old/New Covenants. If you paid any effort to study the matters for yourself, you would find that almost all of the events written - I believe it is the most exact written history in existence - have been proved by archaelogists, and almost all of the prophesies that have been completed have been verified [the truth of which is also partly covered by archaelogical findings, also proving facts that the prophesies are indeed prophesies, and not later-on written history], and with further deduction and study, one will come to the conclusion that there is not one lie in the books. Thank-you. Do the math yourself, or don’t blame/critisise something you have no knowledge about. True science works that way.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:22 pmThe MSM has been jingoistic since the 1980 Olympics. Try, e.g., to find a story on foreign athletes/teams by NBC if there is NO connection to a U.S. athlete/state/university, etc.
IOW, Natalee is American. Florida sharks attack Americans. Laci Peterson was an American. The Runaway Bride is an American.
American Human Interest Stories rule the U.S. airwaves.
So be careful what you wish for. The MAIN reason the MSM has focused on Cindy Sheehan is that she is, can you guess, AN AMERICAN HUMAN INTEREST STORY.
Darfur, alas, is not.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:44 pmThe old and new testament are both ancient fairy tales that have more holes than the worst plot of the worst hollywood movie.
Religion is false and dangerous and is what is fueling modern warfare. Without religion, the greedy have a much harder time selling the gullible on sending their kids to die to enrich already rich men.
Without religion there is peace. The sooner people realize that there is no god, we can all begin to get along and live in a peaceful world.

Kalle,
Of course you are right, they dug up Noahs ark on top of mount siani just last … no, wait, there was nothing there. But the centuries of written Egyptian history fully record the Exudous and, wait, strike that, there is almost no mention at all. Perhaps you could help me find this archaeological evidence? I think all of mine were shredded when the coptic church edited the old egyptian legends to fit into the new christian frame work, and thus keep control of egypt for a wee bit longer. Lol, part the red sea baby, yeah!
August 24th, 2005 at 8:30 pmCannot we finance international terrorism at less then a billion a week?
August 24th, 2005 at 8:39 pmWell, the LMSM (lying main stream media) are for the most part owned by companies such as GE and Disney. They used to be indepentent companies, and they used to assume that the news was a “loss leader”, as the marketing biz jargon would have it. The entertainment shows were meant to create the profits, if the news shows did not, that was not seen as a problem. What has happened in the last 25 years or so is both consolidation of the media and ownership by companies that regard the news programming as just another “profit center”. If the news shows don’t make money, then change them until they do. The result is a convergence on infotainment because no network wants to lose market share to another, the which loss would lower their ad revenue on the news shows. It’s a kind of “race to the bottom”.
August 24th, 2005 at 8:53 pmKalle,
One of the founders of the country looked into the prophesies of the Bible in great length. Check out what he found, here:

August 25th, 2005 at 2:39 amDear T, to put it straight: Even just at the first look I found a distortion in “paine_essay03.htm” of facts by mis-quoting the text in Isaiah. I shall not bring a debate up here - let those who have eyes see, and those who have ears hear. In Isaiah 7:12 on, it clearly states that it was not Ahaz who asked for a sign, and it was not for him, but for the House of David. How blind can one be? The author of those texts does not even read, or is so blinded, that he sees what he wants to see. Plain English is not difficult to read. P.S. King James Authorised Version is free of distortions, which occurred to me that I forgot to note. Lunatics have made many faulty translations. Most of the so-called “religious” people in the world are insane. So are the ones who blaspheme and distort facts. The so-called critisisers of the Bible are nothing more than anti-God people, who distort and take things out of context. Peace be onto you.
August 25th, 2005 at 8:54 amIf we all lived by the “Golden Rule” (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) this world would be a much better place. Instea.d, we must play a game to see who has the most toys when they die. It is utterly deplorable that the News(?)Networks will not cover the real important news of the world but rather the sophmoric news of Runaway brides, Michael Jackson, or pretty white girls that are missing. Yes these are stories and should get brief coverage while the real world stories should get the bulk of the news time. What ever happened to “Doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do”? We should be seeing much more investigative reporting on the genocide in Africa and also finding out who leaked the CIA agents identity to the press. Why hasn’t the people responsible been brought up on charges of Treason?
August 25th, 2005 at 12:01 pmThere’s a reason our nation is going right, theocratic and fascist. It’s not an accident nor the product of the free market of ideas.
I agree, let those that have eyes see….

Without religion there is peace. The sooner people realize that there is no god, we can all begin to get along and live in a peaceful world.”
And yet there have been Wars between completely atheistic societies. I find your optimism quaint, but I think that even if there were no religion men and women would still find excuses to kill each other.

So it’s the Moonies that control the MSM and therefore the Sheeple? Archers-IsraeOil said it was the “zionist Jews-owners” back in post #61.
So which is it the moonies or the zionist Jews?
And what does any of that have to do with the MSM Ignoring Dafur?
Or are Aunt Maddie and Archers-IsraeOil typical right wing distractors like FastMovingCloud spoke of in post #26? They dont sound very right wing, or even right to me.
August 25th, 2005 at 6:59 pmFirst off, everyone on here, this is not a place to vent your frustrations about religion. If you really want to help the people in Darfur, as well as other regions that need our attention, then you’d realize that we need the help of every person, no matter what faith.
Second of all, everyone should know that in the Washington, DC television market, only NBC-4 (WRC) is actually owned and operated by NBC. ABC-7(WJLA) is owned and operated by Albritton Communications, and CBS-9 (WUSA) is owned and operated by Gannett (the same company that publishes USA Today). So, to be fair, the title “NBC, CBS, ABC Reject Ad Criticizing Their News Coverage,” is wrong because three individual stations, only one of which was owned by a network, refused to air the spot.
It’s okay though, those stations don’t reach as many people as FOX-5 (WTTG) anyway, which is on cable in Virginia, West Virginia, DC, Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, and southern Delaware. Now I know what you’re thinking, FOX would never air it, and WTTG is owned by FOX, but in the corporate structure, they are independent of Fox News Channel. Maybe if your nice enough in a letter to them then they may give you a chance. I’ve always found their coverage to be fair ground for both sides. There’s a good chance they’d reject it, but hey, it never hurts to try.
Other suggestions would be WBAL-TV in Baltimore, they’re the NBC affiliate owned and operated by Hearst. They reach good portions of MD, PA, and DE. They air the least amount of irrelevant stories, and that’s why their the most trusted source for news in Baltimore. They’ve busted companies that dump in the Chesapeake Bay, among other stories. If you show this to them, they might see breaking this story as another way to be ahead of the game.
Last but not least, try WBAL-AM 1090. This radio station is Baltimore’s best, also owned by Hearst. Though they are sometimes seen to have a republican slant, I find even their conservative hosts, like Ron Smith, to be refreshingly different. Just contact Ron Smith, he’ll mosre than likely talk to you on the air, he’s got nothing to lose.
-Good luck to all, and quit bashing republicans and religious people,
Nick R.
August 25th, 2005 at 7:10 pmSo the runaway bride isn’t more important than Darfur. Not long ago I would have agreed with this campaign, but I’ve given up on the slanted media. I have turned to foreign news sources long ago. Even if NBC,CBS,ABC covered the story they would fuck it up.
August 26th, 2005 at 9:46 amBack on Track: There is no news stations anymore, merely MSM-WH spin machines.

August 26th, 2005 at 11:55 amAs an electrical engineer, I understand what Bush says when he is getting positive feedback. That’s the high pitched wail you hear when a microphone is amplified via a speaker system. Unless you lower the volume, it will never go away. How does the sacrifice of more souls justify the sacrifices of the past? It’s as if we are a Stone Age society.
August 26th, 2005 at 10:00 pmMore stations that reject ads they don’t “agree with”. Apparently there is not enough evidence that WMD’s were not found in Iraq to run this ad.

60 Minutes,CBS, did a segment on the suffering in Sudan on Aug. 28th. It seemed to me that I had seen this coverage before. There needs to be ongoing coverage of the problems and the relief efforts there.

I would just like to say that as a 17 year old Junior in high school who has started a club at my school to help the Sudanese people, I am disgusted by the partner site. I really like the actual site to help the sudanese people, but find the partner site to be a “trouble-maker” site that can spew nothing but criticism.

and to this guy, in a recent poll of the media:
91% consider themselves to be democrats
5% are moderates
4% consider themselves to be republicans
READ…THEN THINK
September 8th, 2005 at 8:45 pmOur nation relies on democracy (public opinion) and capitalism (money). Darfur is poor and doesn’t impact our capital markets and our people have little interest in Africa. However, this business argument in no way defeats the human rights imperitive to stop genocide. Shame on the networks.
September 18th, 2005 at 5:06 amSome of you accuse George Bush of “owning” the mainstream media. Take a good look at what the media in America and elsewhere do. They do not promote George Bush, they are vehemently anti-Bush. That, and the failure to take issue with Darfur, not to mention other problems in various parts of the world are for the benefit of the United Nations as an organization. Think about that for just a minute, and many things shall come to you as a revelation. Sorry about the bibical sounding pronouncement, but that best describes the way it is.
September 18th, 2005 at 8:35 amThe TV networks should try the true ‘reality show’,
September 18th, 2005 at 3:33 pmre: Genocide in Darfur, Sudan! Now that’s for real!
I guess they don’t want to make Americans feel bad do they?
Mean while, the Americans continue to get really involved with “NON-REALITY”!
TV should NOT become a ‘vast wasteland’ as it is heading towards but, an INFORMED communication form.
You guys give Bush way too much credit. Honestly, he is not that smart. Bush does not own an empire, and he is not in control of the media. Look at the coverage of Hurricane Katrina (not very pro-Bush, now is it?). Now I am wondering why no one has answered my comments; everyone’s so busy spewing criticism on Bush that we’ve lost sight of the real problem. Of course the media didn’t air the ad, are you people really that ignorant? Why would anyone air an ad that attacks them?
So, why haven’t we sent another creative? One that does not attack the media?
I agree with Melissa on Post #93. We need to focus on the problem and stop socializing by finding unity in whining. There still is hope. There are other news stations out there and radio shows. Melissa, I am curious to know what your program is; I am working on a contest-style poker tournament fundraiser at Mira Costa High School, and need more support. Please, anyone contact me if you want to talk ideas for changing what already has happened.

September 19th, 2005 at 8:14 pmI’m sorry about my unorginal name but that’s irrelevant. My comment concerns the same reality that everyone seems to claim the news stations don’t really care for (which I adamantly agree with). If in this reality news stations will not air an ad that criticizes their integrity, how can we as people who care get coverage of a story to that effect. What can we do to break the media-imposed silence regarding the genocide in the Sudan? This is not a retorical question and it is certainly not intended to discourage. If anyone has a valid suggestion please let me know.
September 22nd, 2005 at 8:24 pmOk, you are doing a great job describing the problem and getting the message out, but how about giving credit to the media and politicians who have tried to expose the genocide in Sudan.
I hope your patrons check out Vatican Radio. They have done extensive coverage on their daily 10 minute news program. Here is the link for english - USA.

Also I was surprised our own Sen. Joe Biden from Delaware has sponsored legislation for financial assistance for the victims in Sudan. This reminds me of the inspirational leadership we used to have during the Camelot days of JFK.
September 29th, 2005 at 5:22 amGeorge W. Bush is the defender of freedom.
September 30th, 2005 at 11:53 am^^^^^Rotf Lmao. DEFENDER OF FREEDOM?!?! How can you think that what he is doing involves this? Is Al-Qaeda planning a coup against the U.S. government? And while were at it, “There ought to be limits to freedom” was said by your beloved Commander while commenting on a satirical website made during his 2000 campaign.
January 13th, 2006 at 4:44 pmWhy do these major news media not focus on the brutal and uncivilized killings of innocent people by the Taliban and other insurgents? These are mostly ordinary people like them and like us who just want to work, take care of their families and have as free a life as possible. Killing them wontonly is so horrible and inhumane but the media is so full of political agendas, they don’t have time to help fight terrorism by informing in detail and criticism about the real problems.
I get sick to death of hearing their social and political agenda in almost everything they broadcast and produce. They often appear like battleaxes so ready to attack with their crisp and harsh commentary and questions.
