68 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since President Bush went on the longest presidential vacation in 36 years on August 2nd.
The AP reported on August 2nd that at least 1,806 members of the U.S. military had died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003. As of this morning, at least 1,874 members of the U.S. military have died.
President Bush believes it’s time to “get on with his life,” but U.S. soldiers continue to make the ultimate sacrifice on a daily basis.
When you take a vacation from your vacation
August 24th, 2005 at 10:14 amdo you square those days (vacation of vacation days) ** 2
or what?
None of the lives lost in Iraq are in the Bush family or circle of friends, so why should or would he be concerned about them.
Remember, Bush is a draft dodger, no matter how Rove spins it.
August 24th, 2005 at 10:18 amJust goes to show you who is running this war. He could be gone for ever and it would make no diff. Only when Dick, Donald and Condi need someone to mouth the lies to the public.
August 24th, 2005 at 10:20 amCBS Radio News nailed him yesterday at the top of the 2PM EST hour: “Bush’s vacation from his vacation….”
Payback is a bitch.
August 24th, 2005 at 10:21 amThe man is a POS. He is mostly useless, except for his incoherent comments that provide humor in this very unhumorous time. Cheney just surfaces once in a while to claim “reconstituted” or “last throes” or any convenient slogan. Rice, who seems perpetually nervous in front of a microphone speaks in irrelevant platitudes. Rumsfeld is a cavalier, smug, senile man who should be bitch-slapped out of office. But Bush is a unique individual. A man who never had to earn an honest dollar – who never earned an honest grade – who never worked an honest day – devotes his time to improving his physical condition (on our dime) taking daily naps, and while taking his annual 5-week vacation (that few in America could ever afford to take in either time or money), he simply sticks it in the face of the average Joe. He seems to say, “Look at me! I am king! The rest of you can kiss my ass.”
August 24th, 2005 at 10:44 amI say we send him on a permanent vacation. Behind bars.
August 24th, 2005 at 10:44 amWe are like the monkey with his hand in the jar, holding the bannana, and cant get his hand out. We can’t let go of the bannana to free ourselves.
We stuck our hand into the garbage disposal to retrieve the gold ring and lost a finger – now we must sacrifice the hand to achieve the objective.
WE (those who know better) aren’t there for Iraqis.
We aren’t even there for the Oil.
We are there for American Hegemony.
World tyranny is upon us.
“We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order. ” –David Rockefeller
“Oil is much too important a commodity to be left in the hands of the Arabs.” –Henry Kissinger
We will have a world government whether you like it or not. The only question is whether that government will be achieved by conquest or consent.” Banker Paul Warburg, February 17, 1950, as he testified before the U.S. Senate
“The interests behind the Bush Administration, such as the CFR, The Trilateral Commission – founded by Brzezinski for David Rockefeller – and the Bilderberger Group, have prepared for and are now moving to implement open world dictatorship within the next five years. They are not fighting against terrorists. They are fighting against citizens.” – Dr. Johannes B. Koeppl, Ph.D., former German defense ministry official and advisor to former NATO Secretary General Manfred Werne
“Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.” — Henry Kissinger speaking at Evian, France, May 21, 1992 Bilderburgers meeting. Unbeknownst to Kissinger, his speech was taped by a Swiss delegate to the meeting
“Sarah, if the American people had ever known the truth about what we Bushes have done to this nation, we would be chased down in the streets and lynched.”
George Bush Senior speaking in an interview with reporter Sarah McClendon in December 1992 (Good idea. thanks poppy.)
Get the picture?
August 24th, 2005 at 10:51 amgood! Now lets ROLL!!
Each day I think it can’t possibly get worse and it does. I laugh at his stupidity to keep from crying. It is long past time for him to confront coffins and funerals, or at least send him to Iraq to the front lines to see the reality of his actions. He is truly a despicable man!
August 24th, 2005 at 10:51 amHe’s running scared from Camp Casey… he thought Cindy Sheehan was one person, and that he could airlift himself away from her..
But guess what, hundreds of Cindy Sheehans popped up in Idaho… goshdarn it!

August 24th, 2005 at 10:52 amThis is a real ‘Nero fiddles’ post isn’t it? Think about personal memories of Bush like this when you watch him on TV tonight: http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Aug05/Goldsmith0822.htm
And by the way, shouldn’t you all be at Disneyworld or the mall?
August 24th, 2005 at 10:53 amWE ARE ALL SHEEHAN!!!
August 24th, 2005 at 10:56 amHey Pablo, I wanted to get your take on Pat Robertson’s comment that the Monroe Doctrine was still in effect in the whole of the Western hemisphere. you must have logged off before seeing my question. Any thoughts?
August 24th, 2005 at 11:04 amBefore Bushy invaded Iraq, how many people protested over a single weekend around the world? What was it? Something like 12million? 20million? I forget the exact number. The world turned out for the Peace Rallys. Did Bushy listen?
We knew then that BushCo didn’t care for anyone’s ideas, thoughts, or feelings. All that mattered was that Bushy got his way. Well, Bushy got his way, and now he’s on vacation. I’m sure he said told the press as he boarded his aircraft bound for Texass that “I’m go’n to Disneyland!”
The CEO of the US is taking his leave. He has milked the treasury for all its worth. He’s off-shored as much as he can. He’s spent to the limits of good fiscal responsibility and well beyond. It’s got to be hard work. Hard work! He deserves a rest. A long rest. Behind bars, preferably.
I’m waiting for his mom to pop back into the MSM with her “beautiful mind” comment. :-(
August 24th, 2005 at 11:06 amDoes anybody else find it interesting that the MSM still refers to the deaths as “more than 1800 have died.” rather than the way we were all taught in school. You know anything higher than six means you round up. The MSM should be saying “almost 1900 have died.” I am wondering when the MSM will start saying it like they should. When we reach 1901 deaths?
August 24th, 2005 at 11:16 amI think it’s interesting that they’re always referred to as troops and not people.
Call them troopERs, soldiers, but not troops!
August 24th, 2005 at 11:20 am#13 – 30 million around the world, about 8-10 million in the U.S., half a million in NEW YORK ALONE. This was February 2003.
MSM doesn’t cover war protesters generally … they refered to the half million New Yorkers as “Tens of thousands”… but when those who have ’skin in the game’ join in, THAT’S when an impact is made. I’ll take it any day.
August 24th, 2005 at 11:34 amThe WItch,
You do have a point. They should be called people, because that is what they are. But, I was in the military and am used to calling military personel “troops” It is habit.
I think at a minimum, all those here that know the truth should call a duck a duck and say “almost 1900 ‘people’ have died” Because that is the truth.
August 24th, 2005 at 11:36 amWe should call them people or soldiers.
August 24th, 2005 at 11:43 amEven that tiny effort is more consideration than they are given by the boy/king.
Oh….wait, now everythings fixed. bushchimp is back working hard, and announcing on TV that not many of the military families agree with cindy Sheehan, and getting out of Iraq was ‘JUST PLAIN WRONG”. There, monkey-boy has spoke. Lets ignore the caravan of dummies that trail the protests of the Gold star Moms, and get on with it.
August 24th, 2005 at 11:46 amI always thought a troop was a group of soldiers anyway– if not, what’s a troopER?
But I digress. :-)
August 24th, 2005 at 11:54 amIn the corporate world, these “troops” would be called resources. It’s almost what these fallen Americans have become to BushCo…
Theresa
August 24th, 2005 at 12:02 pmNo, each individual soldier is a troop, but I can see the confusion and that is why the Bush administration uses it. It is a softer word than soldier or person.
When I was addressed by my drill seargent, he would say “Get over her troop.” Trooper is another way of saying it. Just like troops and troopers means the same thing.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:06 pm“In the corporate world, these “troops†would be called resources.”
Exactly.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:07 pmAs rush limburger said, what’s the big deal, we’ve all lost something. Some lost their lives. Jenna Bush lost her purse in a Georgetown bar. If there’s anything to learn from this, it’s that Daddy can always buy you a new purse.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:10 pmSo what’s the relation to “F-Troop?” Was that based on Bush’s national guard service?
August 24th, 2005 at 12:13 pmIt’s disgusting to see Gov. Kempthorne, aka Plastic Man, hanging around Georgie like a little puppy. Plastic Man wants to be president, too, except he has no personality. He’s going to need another vacation after this one. I think all the Cindys are getting to him. If there’s a god, thank you.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:47 pmBushie’s new war rationale while on vacation: “We will finish the task that they gave their lives for.” Great, honor the dead soldiers by creating more dead soldiers.
August 24th, 2005 at 12:51 pmWhat he meant to say is, “YOU will finish the task they gave their lives for. My daughter is busy on the homefront boosting the morale of the young drunk republicans.”
August 24th, 2005 at 1:41 pmGDM, I know, right? It sounds so foolish and some people just keep sopping it up like gravy. As long as this admin can keep thinking (an operative word) up any counter-argument, it really doesn’t make any difference how stupid it is. The sheeple will eat – the sheeple need to be fed.
They can say virtually anything and these “Stockholm Syndrome” drones will bite. Just think about it, they cannot admit they have ever been wrong under any circumstances no matter what. They can’t or their world will not make sense anymore. They have decided that they have an enemy (I see all of you repubs are reading your pocket version of The Art of War, which none of you understand anyway) and must squash the enemy. They need desperately a target. I find it pathological. It’s like a tick being pulled from the neck of a dog – it needs a host. And, so do the sheeple. They need a host like Hannity, Coulter, Limbaugh, etc.
I am still contemplating the reasons why the trolls come here. We know it’s not to get insight and definately not to sway us. Anyone? I’m trying to find the root of the repub pathology; call it an experiment.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:43 pmRummy says that we lose a lot more people than that in traffic accidents, so what’s the big deal?
August 24th, 2005 at 2:29 pmOn the same weekend that Boy George excitedly pedaled his shiny new bicycle with Lance Armstrong, seemingly oblivious (or at least indifferent) to events outside his Crawford playhouse, the following tragedy befell our troops, who unlike Bush WEREN’T AWOL:
“Reuters — FOUR American soldiers were killed and THREE others seriously injured Sunday when a roadside bomb exploded under their vehicle in southern Afghanistan…”
Pedal faster, lil’ George! Boy, look at him go, with those handlebar streamers flapping in the wind… Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
August 24th, 2005 at 2:45 pmPictures of W on vacation while the world burns evoke so many comparisons to the what it probably looked like for emperors such as Louis XVIth, Nero, Caligula, Czar Nicholas 2nd, Maximillian, and so forth. MisterB was on to something above. We are watching empire in its most ugliest demonstration of arrogant power. The legions are out dying for the glory while the princes and lords while away the hours lounging publicly and garishly in their decadance.
August 24th, 2005 at 4:44 pm#32 – Right on! Amen. Well said.
August 24th, 2005 at 6:31 pmWhen I was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta in early March of this year I did feel the ease of being carefree. I have to admit I did not think about the war, the economy, or much else connected to the good ole USA.
But, I am not the President of the United States of America the most powerful nation of the planet.
August 24th, 2005 at 11:56 pm[...] The truth hurts. More than 60 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since President Bush went on vacation. Iraq’s interim government has twice missed the deadline for presenting a constitution. The current draft of the constitution not only threatens to create an illiberal Shia theocracy that doesn’t respect the rights of women and religious minorities, but also risks intensifying the current undeclared sectarian civil war. And the president’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low of 36 percent – lower than Richard Nixon’s approval rating at the height of Watergate. Cindy Sheehan is not the only American who thinks that things aren’t going so well in Iraq. [...]
August 25th, 2005 at 2:29 pm[...] President Bush’s message on Iraq over the past few weeks has been consistent: don’t worry about the persistent violence because the political process in on track. Here’s Bush on August 11: I had a meeting with the defense team and earlier this morning with Condi Rice and Don Rumsfeld…We discussed recent developments in Iraq, including the political progress that is taking place in that country. Despite the acts of violence by the enemies of freedom, Iraq’s elected leaders are now finishing work on a democratic constitution. [...]

August 26th, 2005 at 10:23 ami just need this emailed to me to prove many morons wrong that still think he is fab
September 7th, 2005 at 7:38 pmYou liberal whiners can’t be serious. You lament about innocent lives being lost in wars but, you don’t mind killing babys when there’s a chance they may interfere with your lifestyle. We lose nearly 130 lives each and every day in the U.S.A. just from traffic accidents. This plus all of the gasoline being used by motor vehicles, I’m surprised you guys aren’t trying to ban the automobile and demand that every one ride bicycles. In reality, you’re not upset about lives being lost, you just don’t like it when the conservative Republicans are right and are helping the people in Iraq. I fully support our troups and their mission.
