What is it with Bush and his ilk that they think they can lie through their teeth and no one will call them on it? Could this be because our wonderful press never does? There is tape of Robertson using the word assassination, for Pete’s sake.
Ho ho, hey hey, how many Commandments you break today?
If we listen to Pat that is at least three:
1. Thou shalt not kill
2. Thou shalt not bear false witness
3. Thou shalt not covert thy neighbour’s possessions
4. Thou shalt not steal
Besides that does the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean know the Monroe Doctrine (”we can do with you what we like when we like”) is still in effect? I didn’t see the news or anyof Chavez neighbors pick that one up.
Today he just said the Chavez is trying to get Nukes from IRAN!!! He asked his guest if Venezuela poses a “Clear and Present Danger” to the United States.
I thought his show was about religion! What’s all this politics???? What’s all this CRAZY???
Day by day, the gap between the reality of Pat Robertson and his characterization on South Park gets smaller and smaller. Shouldn’t Pat/Marion (his real name) be worrying about doing Jesus’work and feeding the poor in Darfur, Niger, and here in the United States?
Power man, it is all about power.
Robertson is mad with it.
What is that expression about people who
want power being the last ones who should have it?
MONDAY: “You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of ASSASSINATION, but if he thinks we’re trying to ASSASSINATE him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and DO IT. It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war.”
TUESDAY: “Wait a minute, I DIDN’T SAY ‘ASSASSINATION.’ I said our special forces should, quote, ‘take him out,’ and ‘take him out’ can be a number of things including kidnapping. There are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP, but that happens all the time.”
**************************************
“Mr. Robertson, we’ve had our 700 Club executive staff brainstorm on damage control, and we’ve come up with the following plan”:
MONDAY: Who would Jesus assassinate?
TUESDAY: Who would Jesus kidnap?
WEDNESDAY: Who would Jesus ‘take out’?
THURSDAY: Who would Jesus take out on a date?
FRIDAY: Who would Jesus marry?
SATURDAY: Which televangelist would newlywed Jesus support?
SUNDAY: Please send your 700 Club donations here…
MONDAY: “What? I have no idea what you’re talking about. Never happened!”
TUESDAY: “I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the 2008 presidential election.”
And further to his “I didn’t say Assasinate him” he continues to say he is a dictactor. Now Chavez may not be the best leader in the world but he was elected more than once. His opposition is the rich and powerful and he is a little more in touch with the poor and downtrodden.
‘ANOTHER ANGLE ON ROBERTSON. Is it just me, or was Pat Robertson’s call to break out the hit squad something of a subtle dig at the Bush Iraq policy?
“We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”
As you may recall, Robertson claims he was assured by the president before the Iraq War that the invasion wouldn’t cause any casualties, a prediction that didn’t turn out so well. Clearly that experience has caused Robertson to rethink his views somewhat on the general desirability of invading and occupying medium-sized, oil-rich nations, something I can only wish more people would do. Of course, it’s hard to see what actually assassinating Hugo Chavez would accomplish. Nor does it seem wise for the United States to be engaged in removing democratically elected leaders from power, even when they turn out to be apostles of the dread “illiberal democracy.” And Robertson’s loose talk is going to be a boon to Chavez and, therefore, a fiasco for American interests in South America. Besides which, advising people to kill other people is an odd thing for a Christian to be doing.’
Robertson just issued a written apology. He admits now that he did say assassination. Let’s say – first he said it, then he said he was misinterpreted, then he said he was misquoted, then he said he didn’t say it – now he apologizes.
I think he has crossed over into Neverland. I think his ship has left the port. I think he has proven that he is an old, crazy fool, and the kindest thing would be to force him to resign. He is a menace to society. He is an inflammatory person who uses his pulpit to advocate his causes. He must be kept out of the public.

After channel surfing for a short time last night it occured to me that Robertson’s whacko comments served two purposes. One was to whip up the base against Chavez and the other to steal some of the media thunder from Cindy Sheehan. I’m pretty sure that he succeeded on both counts, phony retraction be damned.
Looks like our friend Pat got himself into a little bit of trouble that he can’t quite get out of.
Advice: Maybe next time instead of just calling yourself a Christian maybe you should really act like one.
As Bill O’Reilly said last night on the “Factor” “If Jesus wanted Chavez dead he could have done it himself without Roberston’s help”.
I don’t think Jesus actually wants Chavez dead, I think O’Reilly was just proving a point. A man of faith should not go around spewing out things such as the one’s Pat Roberston yesterday.
The beauty of having a loose cannon like Robertson around is that he thinks he is so powerful he can say whatever he wants, forgetting that the central Idaho survivalist holed up with thousands of rounds of ammunition and a two year supply of canned peaches isn’t the only one who listening to his bloviation. Additional less serious thoughts on Rev. Pat at my blog listed here somewhere.
Gee, I think the bible says something about LYING also you hypocritical piece of sh*t.

August 24th, 2005 at 1:47 pmI get it. Robertson actually wanted to take Chavez out on a date! That sly dog.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:48 pmRobertson meant he wanted to “take him out” for an evening of dinner, movie and dancing.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:48 pmLike minds, Gary.
August 24th, 2005 at 1:49 pmGood work Think Progress. Keep pounding on the hypocrites and liars.
There is only so many ways you can twist things before they come back to bite you in the ass!
Needless to say, it would seem that it is becoming more difficult for some to actually sit down…..

August 24th, 2005 at 2:00 pmHey, Robertson, you hypocrite: the word “assassination” has the word “ASS” in it…twice.

August 24th, 2005 at 3:11 pm^^ An interesting take on quite the ridiculous comment (and denial) by Pat.

a kook! I get it.
