Goldberg’s Double Standard

Goldberg’s Double Standard

Jonah Goldberg of the National Review’s the Corner went after Cindy Sheehan, stating that, “She’s rallied the Nazis to her cause (obviously unintentionally, but it’s interesting how her message resonates in such quarters nonetheless).” And his so-called apology for the statement still likened her rhetoric to that of white supremacists.

In the same post, Jonah brings up (and defends) the Minuteman Project, a group that even President Bush labeled as vigilantes. The efforts of the Minuteman Project drew “major interest on White supremacist Web sites and in their chat rooms. An Aryan Nation site [linked] directly to the Minuteman Project home page with the words: “A call for action on part of ALL ARYAN SOLDIERS.” Jonah scolds Sheehan for using “rhetoric [that] is appealing to a wide range of groups who practice similar rhetoric” and yet claims the Minutemen “have been working hard to weed out the nuts and goons rhetorically and practically.”

He’s talking about the same Minutemen Project that absolutely used rhetoric laced with venom — claiming the nation is being “devoured and plundered by the menace of tens of millions of invading illegal aliens” and predicting “political, economic and social mayhem.”

Now that he’s received some critical email, Goldberg doesn’t want to talk about the issue anymore. This morning he announced that he’s “not going to spend the day discussing this whole thing any more.

Good call.

An excerpt from Goldberg’s most recent post: “Gather young fighters around you and tell the womenfolk you will feed and protect any female who agrees to participate without question in your plans to repopulate the earth with a race of gilled-supermen. It’s never too soon to be prepared. ” This guy is a real gem.

  2. PETE says:

In truth, Goldberg is the best one over there. That’s not saying too too much.

  3. Platypus says:

I get this all the time. For example, just a couple of days ago I took someone to task for trying to attribute motive with regard to a recent Supreme Court decision. After the obligatory couple of rounds of excuses (it wasn’t a statement about motive, it was about a different motive, you must be talking about someone else, yadda yadda) my interlocutor ran out of wiggle room so he just pulled the “this is silly” maneuver and stopped responding. I guess it’s only silly when you’re caught, but I’d rather be silly than obnoxious or stupid. Like all the others, Goldberg isn’t comfortable when he’s the one sitting in the harsh glare of the spotlight. Accountability is for other people.

  4. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

I liked Cindy’s response to the ProWar crowds (posted on her blog on Mr.Moore’s site):

“…My friend said that the speakers [at the ProWar Rally] were whipping up the crowd into a frenzy of hatred for me (like they already didn’t hate me?) and for the peace movement. My friend said that the entire theme of the rally was: “Cindy is killing American troops by her anti-American protest.” Oh really, isn’t George Bush killing innocent Americans and Iraqis by sending them to fight in an illegal and immoral war for power and greed? I think the real culprit is my neighbor: George.

I am really sad that there are still people in America who think that someone exercising her freedom of speech is anti-American. People who say we DON’T have the right to dissent are un-patriotic and un-American. My friend said that the rally was really the scariest thing he had ever seen. Except for one funny part when some people were walking through the crowd with a “Say No to War—except when a Democrat is President” (whatever that means???) sign…”

What’s amazing to me is that the ReichWingNuts tell the world that its the Peace and Justice Movement that hates sooooooo much. Its such a projection on their part. And it looks like the ReichWingNuts have started handing out boots and brown shirts (from reading about the ProWar supporters in Crawfish, Texass). These are grim times. All they want is blood.

  10. KJ Lovell says:

Goldberg got his weenie caught in the wringer, so now he won’t talk about it anymore.

    Never stopped dumbya.

So, if some idiot makes Sheehan the bride of Osamma BEEN FORGOTTEN, does that mean she TOO IS NOW A GOOD FRIEND OF DUMBYA’S FAMILY?????

  11. Ralph Malph says:

If Cindy is the bride of Bin Laden does that mean Bush and Co. will finally leave her alone just like they’ve left Bin Laden alone for the past couple of years?

  12. Bonnie says:

Regarding the comment “claiming the nation is being ‘devoured and plundered by the menace of tens of millions of invading illegal aliens” and predicting “political, economic and social mayhem.’”

That’s just exactly how the American Indian feels. Goldberg can feel free to go back where his ancestors came from.

  13. mighty aphrodite says:

#4 – We applaud Cindy’s freedom of speech – but we do not applaud squishy, sensitive, New Age cosmic cowards. Explanation of Demo war statement – it WAS complex – where were all of you anti- war protestors during Bosnia?

  14. Mark says:

I love it. Keep pounding on the pundits. They are so yesterday. Oh, how the times are a changin’ on the internet!

What was the “word” of the day, is now the scrutiny over the many. Funny what happens when people are forced to tell the truth and if they don’t, they are picked off one by one.

Beware republicans, the top down message is falling apart. Piece by piece. Oh, how I love reading it everyday.

Keep spreading the word!!!! We are coming to your back yards and we are going to pick a fight with all those people who are just windbags with no real facts, numbers or statistics. Talking points from the white house just aren’t going to cut it any longer.

  15. Blue State Red says:

“The fact that many Republicans agreed with him is not the fault of Democrats.”

The fact that one of the so-called progressives on this site would make this assertion demonstrates that Jonah Goldberg is right: it IS of considerable interest, to both the left and right, who tries to make common cause with the extremist elements on both sides.

David Duke tried to pass himself off as a Republican, and the GOP went out of its way to disavow any support for his views.

White supremacists have tried to pass themselves off as supporting Cindy Sheehan’s anti-Israel views, and she has gone out of her way – - to do what, exactly?

    The ball’s in Cindy’s court.

  16. KJ Lovell says:

B.S. dRED – If you speak out for the truth, people will join you, as they did with Ms. Sheehan. It is not her fault that the repugnicans encouraged the whities to seize on the spin of the Israel comments just to TRY to discredit her.

You should just give it up, BE GONE- YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE!

  17. KJ Lovell says:

Here are facts, not theory, part of the historical record — things we can see with our own eyes and feel with our own hands:

    Business as Usual, Redemption

The American Axis: Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh, and the Rise of the Third Reich

    EXCERPT…

If Edsel Ford violated federal laws by continuing to do business with the Nazis after Pearl Harbor, he was not alone. In a small box housed among the U.S. National Archives Trading With the Enemy files sits an explosive series of documents implicating another prominent American family in this serious crime. On October 20, 1942, ten months after the United States entered the Second World War, the U.S. Alien Property Custodian, Leo T Crowley, issued Vesting Order 248 under the Trading With the Enemy Act, seizing all assets of the Union Banking Corporation of New York, which was being operated as a front for “enemy nationals.” According to a federal government investigation, Union Banking was not a bank at all, but a cloak operation, laundering money for Germany’s powerful Thyssen family. The Thyssens were instrumental in financing Hitler’s rise to power and had supplied the Nazi regime with much of the steel it needed to prosecute the war.

One of the partners of the Union Banking Corporation, the man who oversaw all investments on behalf of the Nazi-affiliated owners, happened to be Prescott Bush, grandfather of the American president George W Bush. Through the connections of his father-in-law, Bert Walker (George W’s maternal great-grandfather), who has been described by a U.S. Justice Department investigator as “one of Hitler’s most powerful financial supporters in the United States. Prescott Bush specialized in managing the investments for a number of German companies, many with extensive Nazi ties. These included the North American operations of another Nazi front, the Hamburg-Amerika Line, which was directly linked to a network set up by IG Farben to smuggle agents, money and propaganda for Germany.’° According to a 1934 Congressional investigation, the Hamburg-Amerika line “subsidized a wide range of pro-Nazi propaganda efforts both in Germany and the United States.” Both Walker and Bush were directors of a holding company, the Harriman Fifteen Corporation, that directly financed the line.

Shortly before the government seized the assets of the Union Banking Corporation, in fact, it had also seized American-held assets of the Hamburg-Amerika Line under the Trading With the Enemy Act. A few weeks after the government seized Bush’s shares in Union Banking, it seized the assets of three other Nazi front companies whose investments were handled by Bush-the Holland-American Trading Corporation, the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation, and the Silesian-American Corporation. The paper trail indicated that the bulk of Prescott Bush’s financial empire was being operated on behalf of Nazi Germany.

According to former United States Justice Department Nazi war crimes investigator John Loftus, who has investigated the Bush family’s considerable ties to the Third Reich, Prescott Bush’s investment prowess helped make millions of dollars for various Nazi-front holding companies, and he was well paid for his efforts. “The Bush family fortune that helped put two members of the family in the White House can be traced directly to the Third Reich,” says Loftus, who is currently president of the Florida Holocaust museum.

In his own investigation, Loftus discovered a disturbing trail connecting the Bush family’s money laundering efforts to the Thyssens and their role in building up the Nazi war machine. He believes these connections deserve more scrutiny: “There are six million skeletons in the Thyssen family closet, and a myriad of criminal and historical questions to be answered about the Bush family’s complicity.”

  18. fugmo says:

The Bushes sell young American lives for oil and no-bid contract profits. The fact that they’re willing to launder money for the Nazis doesn’t strike me as that big of a surprise. They have taken the moniker Merchants of Death to a whole new level.

  20. dement says:

I know this is off subject but I heard something at work today. Maybe some of you know some facts. I heard that the military is moving gravely injured soldiers out of country (Iraq) before they die so as to alter the war death toll. Talk was about war deaths in the 7,000 to 8,000 range.

    And disfavor.

They point out Africans’ failed attempts to domesticate the elephant and zebra, the latter being an animal they illustrate that had utmost importance for it’s applicability in transformation from a hunting/gathering to agrarian-based civilization.

The roots of racism are not of this earth.

    Austrailia, aboriginals:::No domesticable animals.

The North American continent had none. Now 99% of that population is gone.

  23. Exploited3 says:

Our society gives clues to the system in place. We all have heard the saying “He has more money than god.” There is also an episode of the Simpsons where god meets Hom\er and says “I’m too old and rich for this.”

This is the system on earth because this is the system everywhere.

god is evil because of money.

I don’t want to suggest the upper eschelons are evil and good is the fringe.

Sony got shit all over by good for a reason. Billions were invested in DAT and betamax.

Their evil was being punished. Perhaps they were SURE the mafia was in charge like so many others. Whatever their sin.

But they have made it abundantly clear that doing business with evil won’t help me. They say only good would have the ear, and therefore only they could help me.

The clues are there which companies are good and which are evil, but they conceal it very hard because it is so crucial.

I offer an example of historical proportions:::

People point to Walmart and cry “anti-union”.

Unions enable disfavored people to live satisfactorly without addressing their disfavor. This way their family’s problems are never resolved. Without the union they would have to accept the heirarchy, their own inferiority.

    Unions serve to empower.

Yes, there are many implications here, from the 60s to civil rights (which got ugly thereafter), music, movements, etc.

Walmart is anti-union because they are good. They try to help people address and resolve their problems.

  24. Exploited3 says:

    Why is that important?
    Because there’s a cutoff date.
And it may have been 2000.

  25. Exploited3 says:

Amercia is a country of castoffs, rejects. “Italy sent its criminals.” “Malcontents.”
The between the thrones, the klans and kindred, they “decided” who they didn’t want and acted, creating discontent and/or starvation.
The u.s. is full of disfavored rejects. As far as the Rockafellers, Waltons and Fords go, I suspect these aren’t their real names. I suspect they were chosen to go and head this new empire.

Jesus Christ is a religious figure of evil. These seperatist churches formed so they could still capture the rest of the white people, keeping them worshipping the wrong god.
And now they do it to people of color, latinos and Asians. “Only disfavored Asians.”
