And it doesn’t show signs of getting any cheaper. We are building a number of bases in Iraq. We are building a very large embassy in Iraq. We will not give the Iraqis the heavy weapons and equipment they need to take over their securing their own country, because we fear that they will turn the weapons on us – and rightly so. So, the Iraqis now realize they are under our military command and will be for the foreseeable future – that doesn’t bode too well in the Iraqi public opinion. Americans now realize that we are there for a lo-o-ng time, at a cost of billions of dollars (not to mention lives) and that doesn’t bode too well in the American public opinion.
Women in Iraq realize that their new Islamic constitution, if it doesn’t provoke civil war with the potential deaths of thousands, has taken away rights from them that they had under a secular government. Our soliders realize that they are undermanned and are playing whack-a-mole in Iraq. So it looks like there is enough misery, disappointment, frustration and anger to go around everywhere — thanks to Dubya and his unplanned, unjust, illegal invasion for oil and power in the region.
Expensive, ill-conceived, poorly executed….may the Bush administration burn in hell for this mess. The thought that my tax dollars funded “shock and awe”, the leveling of Fallujah, the deaths of 10’s of thousands of innocent Iraqi’s. I want a real refund!
It is great to see REAL Americans like Al Sharpton and Martin Sheen stand up for a brave patriot like Cindy Sheehan.
Meanwhile cowardly “Pro Bush” supporters, continue to betray thier country, (and their own children in some cases) defending a “War Dodging” President who has sent others kids to die for his own personal glory. People like Cindy Sheehan and the other anti-war protesters are anyhthing but Anti-War. As a former Marine, I know war is sometimes an unfortunate neccessity. It was in Kosovo to stop Genocide, and we did what we had to do in Sierra Leone to protect Americans from rebel Militias.
But, Iraq is a completely UNECCESSARY war. Like Vietnam, Iraq was a war waged by a cowardly President who has been held hostage by his own fear, and the neocons who have influenced him.
The only REAL patriot who was a member of the Bush administration was Powell, and he left because he could no longer stomach this administration.
Any current or former soldier who has seen war or been in a warzone, knows that war is a last resort not a first one.
Afghanistan is a REAL war, but because of the idiocy and incompetence of Bush, it has been ignored…and I fear what might result from George Bush’s failure to fight the REAL war on terror.
1. Of course it costs more, we’re substituting technology for soldiers, so it costs more but fewer are killed.
2. Of course it costs more, EVERYTHING costs more.
3. Of course it costs more, we’re rebuilding a country instead of leaving countries all cut up with trenches and stuff, like in WWI.
4. Of course it costs more, we’re using an all volunteer army.
5. Of course it costs more, in WWI we didn’t have to make Halliburton happy.
6. Of course it costs more, how in the world do you think we’re going to get the money to buy off the religious right?
7. Of course it costs more, how in the world do you think we’re going to get the money to pay back the religious right?
8. Of course it costs more, how else are we going to bankrupt the country so you’ll vote to cut federal programs?
9. Of course it costs more, but gosh darn it, it’s WORTH it!
10. Of course it costs more. Ask any economist worth his weight in predictions and he’ll tell you that you can’t use military spending to pull the country out of the economic state known as “the recession’s over” unless you spend at least a quarter of a billion.
11. Of course it costs more, where do you think we plan on getting the money to defend Abramoff, Norquist, DeLay, Rove. Libby, the Republican operative who jammed the Democrats’ phone lines in New Hampshire, and the entire hierarchy of the Ohio Republican Party?
I think it’s the pride that fuels the reason why Bush Jr. don’t want to leave Iraq. I think the money spent on the war should be spent on Health, education, and homeland security. Iraq war is not an important gesture to curb terrorism it just added fuel to a burning fire. Iraq is really a big trap and Osama is really grinning right now. He could thwart the truth by telling Muslims that the war in Iraq is not for democratic reforms but for the purpose of uNITED sTATES EXPANSIONsm! Moreover, Mr. Bush you should check your brains if its really works? Ok. How could you clean up the whole country of Iraq if you are almost caught empty handed on dealing with Hurricane Katrina. Better clean your backyard first than cleaning the whole mess of Iraq.
This is not war. It is nation building.
August 29th, 2005 at 4:17 pmNation building should be voted on locally.
August 29th, 2005 at 4:20 pmYeah, that’s it! When Roberts pushes to take SC out of the picture on hot topics, perhaps he can add nation building to the list…NOT!

August 29th, 2005 at 8:28 pmYes, the scumbag NeoCons only post when they have a talking point. There must not be one for this topic yet.
Let’s see, it will go something like this:
Well, stuff didn’t cost as much back then, so there is no comparrison.
Oh shit, I jsut gave them a talking point. Damn it!

well, Bush is going around shamelessly comparing the Iraq war with WW1, so i guess this adds to that argument.
