Would one of our GOP prowlers spell out for me what this Administration is doing to take care of this crisis? Rather than try to crash Social Security–maybe Bush and the neocons should take care of this issue–it is certainly more urgent and impacts more people NOW, not 40 years in the future.

  2. mjs says:

I am curious to know how the population has increased over the same period. I would not be surprised if the number of un-insured is growing faster than the rate of the population. Does anyone have any numbers?

  3. Hank says:

We don’t want health insurance. If we did we would have voted for Kerry instead of that smirky puppet in the White House…or Crawford…or Idaho…or wherever he is.

  4. Marie says:

What? Health insurance for the citizens? No no no,
that will never do. That doesn’t fit in with the Republican slash and burn attack on domestic issues.

Health insurance is the devil’s tool. By accepting a government hand-out when you get sick, you are thwarting God’s plan to punish you with sickness and death. Only a communistic, atheistic government would provide “health insurance” – or should I say, “sin insurance.”

Lightning-rods are also sins against His will. And seat belts. And child-proof medicine bottles. I could go on.

  8. kindness says:

Health insurance is very expensive, even the HMO’s. I don’t know that you can cap the price per say. Some “agreement” has to be made with the pharmacological companies. One way to make it cheaper is to increase the pool of people in it. Some form of National Health insurance is a good idea but it’s a political 3rd rail.

Who remembers how Bill and Hillary got the crap beaten out of ‘em for bringing it up in ‘93? I think it’s one of the big reasons the Democrats got beat by the Ginrich machine.

Figure out how to pay for it, then tell folks. They may listen better that way.

  9. Don says:

Gee, I guess people will have to start exercising some personal responsibility: eat healthier food, stop smoking, get more exercise and plenty of rest, and lose some weight.

    Translation:

“Gee, I guess that the slave society being created by the Bush adminstartion, should work hard at bulking up their muscle mass, so they can work hard, with longer hours, so they can continue to enjoy giving money to their superiors.”

Or better yet, we could stop having HMOs and PPOs gouge us for money.

What happened to Faiz’s thread on Saudis?

  12. Brian says:

Sorry, Faiz’s thread on Bush speech and Bin Laden?

  13. Susan says:

Who cares at this point. Our government sucks and the response to Katrina proves it. Our National Guard is
busy killing babies in Iraq instead of taking care of our own devastated citizens.

  14. progressive and proud says:

#9 – Brilliant – just stay fit and no doctors needed. Tell that to Lance Armstrong. Jeebus I hate stupid people.

  15. Red says:

    Susan,

Your impeachment campaign is getting old…No one is listening to you. Also, just exactly how would John Kerry have handled Katrina? I am sick and tired of reading the negative posts here. You all think that if Kerry or another of your liberal buddies were in the White House, everything would be just fine. Well, I’m here to tell you that unless you change your attitude, no one is going to buy what you are selling. Better yet, keep going down this path, its better for our side as we keep winning more elections!

  16. kindness says:

Actually red, you aren’t listening. We’ve all listened and signed the petitions.

But red, if you were to have said that other points and topics need coverage, I’d have agreed with you. You didn’t. You just went about trying to slag a liberal. Too bad no one is paying attention to you as you would like them to (ie-they aren’t taking you seriously. You’re just another unhappy redstater).

Boo Hoo. See my crocodile tears….

Susan – Health Care/Insurance/Coverage is important.

  17. progressive and proud says:

#15 – I suggest Red leaves. Red and the other trolls have nothing but the same five talking points. They contribute nothing and are a real snore. I know some think we should totally ignore the trolls, but then they cry even louder for some attention. I have made a decision not to address idiots directly.

I figure they come here because people like this can’t engage in face to face conversations and spew their ignorance anymore; folks are starting to catch on and, really, when spoken out loud it sounds pretty dumb. There are a few in the office that probably think the way the trolls do (I can tell by their W stickers on their SUVs) but never do they billow forth their venom in public. It’s telling how just a little over a year ago, they were all giddy about their victory and now they are silent. What have you won anyway?

  18. Red says:

    Kindness,

Those petitions and about $3.75 might get you a latte at Starbucks. National healthcare will not sell in this country. Do you really want to wait six months to several years if you need a life-saving operation? I don’t think the government should be involved in health care. You seem to think the government is this bottomless money pit that we can just take and take and take. Well, we can’t afford what we are spending now. And don’t bring up “well if we didn’t attack Iraq we’d have plenty of money” because the health care crisis would eclipse that spending in an instant if we were to move to a national health care plan.

  19. jessica says:

No one should be without insurance. Countries like Sweden and Holland have the right idea. America needs to follow suit.

  20. progressive and proud says:

#18 – How astute of Red. Another idiot shreaking how the government isn’t a money pit. What ever happened to small government, fiscal responsibility and state’s rights? All gone now with the un-Patriot Act and (all) No Child Left Behind. State’s are quickly losing rights and the budget is ridiculous. This argument that the repubs used to spew is tired and disconnected. The sole reason healthcare is in such a shambles is because insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies make disgusting profits and we are a corporation before we are a country. We load them with tax breaks and their CEOs make 400 times what the employees make. That is obvious to anyone with a brain.

Waiting six months for an operation – how stupid. Like Canada? They are all dying at astronomical rates because no one can find any good doctors. STUPID. I can’t stand to hear the arguments of uneducated and ignorant drones. Have these idiots crunched the numbers? They all seem to be quite savvy on the perils of socialized healthcare; the geniouses they are. Actually, they just spew the same garbage they hear from other morons. It would be a much better nation if these folks could/would think for themselves.

  21. Red says:

    P and P,

Here you go – why don’t you win the next election or two and then you can have your nationalized health care! I can’t give any better advice than that.

  22. Mary Popsin says:

(Red) We will win the next election then you can cry in your beer. Bush is nothing but a liar. Him and his cronine friends were behind 9/11.

The Republican don’t care about the american people. They only care about the rich and the corporation that fund their campaign.

Everyone needs health insurance. Only the insurance and pharmaceutical companies are making all the profits.

We need to impeach this man and his adminstration. You will see on September 24,2005 we will have a antiwar rally in Washington D.C. and the american people will be listening then.

  23. progressive and proud says:

I agree that Red cannot give any better advice. We won you lost; very smart.

  24. wisedup says:

Health insurance is very important. they lack health insurance cause they haven’t understood it yet and try to save.

  29. Vicky says:

Health savings Accounts seem to be part of a solution. I went to Healthia.com and got several quotes and they all were cheaper than my current health plan. I got one and so far love it. I am saving money and putting the money away into an interest bearing account.
