NYT Editoral:

“George W. Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday…”

  1. C says:

look at NYT trying to make up for its pathetic war coverage(judy miller). how cute.

  2. Andrew says:

I could only stomach the first 30 seconds of his speech and then I had to turn it off or I would have thrown up all over myself. I don’t know how he really feels inside or what he thinks. I can only judge him by what he says in front of microphones. So far I not been convinced that what he says about “compassionate conservatism” is anything more than a shell game designed to pacify the raging right minority. It’s a shame really. All that money spent sending a young man to Yale and this is what you end up with. :(

  3. progressive and proud says:

Just someone tell me why he is always smirking? As he speaks of New Orleans and how it will be great someday, he is smiling the whole time with Diane “dingbat” Sawyer. Argggghhh

  4. Gary Kleppe says:

“George W. Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday…”

…and that’s up against some pretty strong competition.

  5. Andrew says:

It’s a nervous laughter thing. I do it too sometimes but then… I’m not the leader of the free world so it doesn’t really matter. If I get elected (Silly Party) I will have to get shock therapy, botox or something else to make me stop with the smirk thing. I think it makes him look like an idiot, personally.

  6. Ron says:

  7. George "ANDRES SEGOVIA" Bush says:

Stay the course, fight ‘em there, war on terra, what mommy? learnin’ is the basics, mission accomplished, what mommy?, last throes,HUH?,where’s my guitar?,what mommy?, stop looters,HUH?

  8. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

You mean someone in the MSM noticed how bad King George is? Wow. I’m sure Fox will post it’s rebuttal shortly.

  9. NED IS DED says:

Comment by Ron = brainded idiot.

  10. Theresa says:

Unless BushCo is talking about destroying the terrarists (death and war), the man is completely incapable of speaking with any ounce of compassion. I was listening from the kitchen and had to turn him off when he started stammering. The man is complete idiot.

  11. NED IS DED says:

I’m sorry ron, you are just a brainded moron. Bush and the head of FEMA are the brainded idiots.

  12. George "IKE TURNER" Bush says:

This one’s for you, RON! SHOUT OUT!:(”1,2,3,4, Rollin’ on the River-Proud Mary)

  13. Cdad says:

It is quite difficult to top the ‘we are going to get the folks who did this’ but he did succeed yesterday in showing what a nincompoop he can be. On the other hand he only had a day to rehearse so who can blame him.

BTW to whoever is signing “JC the God of WAR” please be aware that there are many Christians who dislike the Bush Adm. (me for example). Not everyone who claims to be a person of faith is necessarily one so please could you tone down the rhetoric. IMHO Bush’s Christianity is a matter of convenience because he certainly doesn’t show the fruits of Christianity.

  14. spyder says:

What struck me was his comment about pursuing the lawless, hunting down and stopping the looters and the criminals. This coming from a man whose high crimes and misdemeanors are listed, sourced, indexed and clearly available to anyone interested. The criminal mindset in our nation starts at the top, not at the bottom. This Administration, more than any other in our history, has demonstrated that lawlessness in the pursuit of procuring and consolidating economic and political power is the only way to function. When Bushco is telling the poorest of the poor that their criminal activities will not be tolerated, they are also telling the rich that theirs will be. Haley Barbour wants to shoot looters, but do you think he wants to shoot those who price gouge, intentionally creating more human suffering–theft is theft is it not?

  15. Ron says:

The idiocy around here is the interminable bush bashing. We all know his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top; constant reminders also is as moronic.

    sticks and stones…

If the citizens of New Orleans were warned and didn’t heed the warning, who is then to blame?

idiots and morons, one and all. You all can jump onto the bush bashing wagon and ride it over the cliff. If that’s progress, go ahead.

You don’t have to like George Bush nor do you have to hate George Bush. Everybody makes mistakes. Those who stayed and partied made a mistake. Don’t call me an idiot for someone else’s miscalculation.

How does that start out? “Left a good job in the city…” BTW, that was CCR, idiot.

  16. progressive and proud says:

Uneducated, or at least ignorant, people like Ron are the reason our country is in such a terrible state. The Rons of the world are so stupid that they don’t seem to put 2 and 2 together. It is as plain as day who stayed – the poor people. The impoverished and the handicapped and the elderly – that is who stayed. Oh and of course, the hospitalized. Scumbags like Ron should be taken out and shot – in both knees. What a creepy selfish piece of shit.

  17. wisedup says:

…notice the price on the sign behind bushie…gas was $2.46 …..http://money.cnn.com/2005/09/01/news/bush_gas.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

  18. Ron says:

Progressive and foolishly proud, sticks and stones…

  19. progressive and proud says:

I must address you, Ron. You have no sympathy, no mercy and no sense. You are cold and calculating and very pathological. You talk just like a serial killer – just ruthless. It makes me cry to “hear” you say the people there are starving because they wanted to party. You deserve all the negativity that you will get back. You are hurtful and mean. You are the epitomy of evil and the fact that you admit Bushco is an idiot but that you don’t care, makes you as hardcore as they come. I just can’t believe you – shameful!!! You will get yours in due time – all in due time.

  20. progressive and proud says:

    Sticks and stones??? Grow up.

  21. George"JOHN FOGERTY" Bush says:

Proud Mary was written and performed by Ike and Tina Turner. SO…But since you mentioned it. SHOUT OUT! RON!:(
“1,2,3,4, when I was just a little boy…Born on the Bayou”)

  22. Ron says:

    ‘uneducated’ ‘ignorant’

Those aren’t hurtful and mean-spirited words towards another human being?

    You’ve gone beyond the pale.

  23. Ron says:

    George, you are correct, sir.

  24. George says:

Actually, John Fogerty did write Proud Mary. My mistake. SO….

  25. Jon says:

It is now official. President George W. Bush, Mr. Compassionate Conservative, has a Compassion Deficit. And as I predicted yesterday, he is turning to conservative uber-villain Bill Clinton to save him from it.

    For the full story, see:

“Bush’s Compassion Deficit: Clinton to the Rescue.”

  26. mondo says:

Can the guy ever give a speech without cue-cards? When I heard he was going to talk to the nation, I knew it wouldn’t be for hours. And I was right. He didn’t give the speech until the early evening. He is so completely narcissitic and out of touch with ‘the people’. The guy is seriously retarded.

Did you all know he was playing golf in California the day after Katrina had passed New Orleans? While the levee was starting to leak, Bush said, “watch this drive!”

  27. Zookeeper says:

#18 – Amen, progressive and proud. Ron, I hope you don’t count on people like you if are ever poor, elderly, mentally ill, physically ill or homeless, and need to get the hell out of town. You are a sick f*ck.

  28. Brian says:

Death in New Orleans due to the failure of the levies is squarely the fault of Bush and the entire congress.

  29. Creamy Goodness says:

“Scumbags like Ron should be taken out and shot – in both knees. What a creepy selfish piece of shit.”
Proud and liberal sounds like Pat Robertson.

  30. Dartanyon says:

    ROFLMAO!!!

Good for Little Judy Warmonnger’s employer.

  31. The Northeast Dilemma says:

#27 – shut up. You know nothing. It might be the state of La’s fault – ever think of that, loser.

  32. mondo says:

Have any of you noticed how coked out Bush has been this month? Ever since that first day in Crawford when Columbia’s president came to visit and drop off a few pounds of Bolivian flake, his jaw has been going ‘tweak, tweak’.

  33. Gary Kleppe says:

Hm. Neddy and Bill O’Reilly. Separated at birth?

  34. mondo says:

Great article and great point. I have been scanning all the morning news shows and I do not see any anchors talking about the Bush blunders. Why isn’t anyone mentioning his morning golf game in California? Even here in LA, our local morning show with Steve Edwards and Jillian Barbiere censored its hosts this morning from talking about Bush’s ’slow as molasses’ response. When the two hosts started pointing this out, they were silenced by the shows producers. Jillian even argued with the off-camera producer. They cut her off mid-sentence, with a commercial. She responded to something the producer said with “no, we ARE going to talk about it!” Then she got cut.

Speaking of the media, did you all see the disgusting racism displayed by Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night? Check out the article that discusses exactly this over at Counterpoint.
    http://www.counterpunch.org/newbury08312005.html

And this is from the usually very rightwing Chicago Tribune. The NWO owned paper of the globalists…

Despite continuous warnings that a catastrophic hurricane could hit New Orleans, the Bush administration and Congress in recent years have repeatedly denied full funding for hurricane preparation and flood control.

That has delayed construction of levees around the city and stymied an ambitious project to improve drainage in New Orleans’ neighborhoods.

For instance, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requested $27 million for this fiscal year to pay for hurricane-protection projects around Lake Pontchartrain. The Bush administration countered with $3.9 million, and Congress eventually provided $5.7 million, according to figures provided by the office of U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.).

Because of the shortfalls, which were caused in part by the rising costs of the war in Iraq, the corps delayed seven contracts that included enlarging the levees, according to corps documents.

Similarly, the Army Corps requested $78 million for this fiscal year for projects that would improve draining and prevent flooding in New Orleans. The Bush administration’s budget provided $30 million for the projects, and Congress ultimately approved $36.5 million, according to Landrieu’s office.

And we have the NY times…

Eyewitness: Sec of State Condi Rice laughs it up at ‘Spamalot’ while Gulf Coast lays in tatters. Theater goers on New York’ City’s Great White Way were shocked to see the President’s former National Security Advisor at the Monty Python farce last night — as the rest of the cabinet responds to Hurricane Katrina…

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/01/opinion/01brooks.html?ei=5090&en=1424045a250b03fc&ex=1283227200&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=print

Then of course, we have the usual hate mongerers rising to the surface, Michelle Malkin blames Hollywood.

  35. Brian says:

    NED,
Get off yer computer and go make yer husband a sandwich. Get him a beer while yer at it you dumb b*tch.

  36. mondo says:

Bush is a complete retard. Why can’t you bushbots think for yourselves? Are you that scared of reality? Are you so thick and easily manipulated to where you view this as some kind of Yankees(democrats) vs. Red Sox(republicans) game? I suggest you start getting your news from honest sources and then maybe you might grow a sac.

  37. Kesh says:

Ron, perhaps you forgot that a large number of people were unable to leave? Or, do you consider being poor / unemployed to be a sign of “idiocy?”

  38. Creamy Goodness says:

Liberals are showing their true colors here. Not one mention of donations, charity groups, volunteering to help. One of the worst natural disasters and human tragedies in U.S. history and they see it as an opportunity to express their hatred for Bush. Surprised? No. Disgusting and pathetic.

  39. cynical ex-hippie says:

Ron can’t imagine that not everyone owns a car. He thinks we need storms like this to clean out the weaklings. That’s why the burden of storm protection must be put on the states, and local governments. So we can get our tax cuts. So we can party like Jenna.

  40. Justin says:

Ron, Anything we say here pales in comparison to what is effectively ‘they’re stupid and thus deserve death’.

  41. cynical ex-hippie says:

Creamy, read previous posts. Lots of links to donations. Most people here have donated time and/or money already.

I turned on talk radio yesterday morning. Air America was talking about all the ways you can help (have a private plane? Call Texas Children’s Hospital). The right wing station was complaining about illegal immigrants. Should I draw a conclusion from that?

  42. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

For a short moment I mused… what would a compassionate King George look/speak/act like? Then I snapped out of it. We’ll never know. George is not compassionate. He was bred only with aristocrasy genes.

BushCo is good at two things: Yelling about war and pulling a draft of piss-poor beer for his frat house buddies.

As for his speeches, I can’t understand what he’s saying 3/4 the time.

  43. Brian says:

    #37
Killin’ the cancer AND treatin’ the symptoms, creamy.
And what’s with “CREAMY”? Is that the name your pimp gave you?

  44. H. victims says:

W set himself up as “daddy the protector” and now we are holding him to it.

  45. Creamy Goodness says:

Brian, you must never take the time for some laughs if you don’t know who Creamy Goodness is. He’s America’s favorite news anchor.

    Ex-hippie,
Where is the thread about charities, donations, etc? Can’t seem to find it. But I applaud any individual who has taken time out of their bashing to post ways we can help. Right on. I was once a hippie, too.

  46. Ron says:

So now I am an incompassionate cad like George Bush, eh?

I have stood on the street as homeless as the bum standing next to me with 54 dollars to my name. I have given a ride to a black man hitchhiking in the middle of nowhere on an interstate highway. I didn’t know him from Adam. He could have killed me but I took my chances. He was in desperate need for a ride. When he entered the car he said, “Praise the Lord.” I knew I was in good hands. 500 miles later, with my help, he reached his destination. Nothing wrong with that.

I’ve been at the bottom. I know what it is like. I didn’t meet very many compassionate people while I was there. You don’t want to be standing on the street with no job, not much money and in an asphalt jungle. It’s not a pretty place.

If you want to hate me, go ahead. It’s your choice. The gangs roaming the streets of New Orleans shooting and looting should know better. They don’t.

Everyone here should know better than to constantly bash George Bush. However, you don’t. Your true colors are showing through the muck.

Mother Nature’s fury takes its toll. George Bush nor anyone else can really do a thing about it.

In January of 1999 twenty thousand Venezuelans were swept out to sea from 20 inches of rain that deluged that country. They couldn’t flee. What can anybody do to prevent that?

So it is with the New Orleans and the officials there did what they could; they maybe were shortsighted, but I can’t really fault them. They were all taken by surprise.

Not only are the people in New Orleans victims, we all are. We all might be standing on the street one day.

Nowadays, I am sorry for us all.

The war in Iraq has become a cruel joke on us all, Americans and Iraqis alike.

  47. Massachusetts Liberal says:

Hey CG! Wake up! They’re bashing Bush because he has failed miserably. What are they supposed to do, praise him for flying low over New Orleans? The cutting of funds for the levee repairs is going to become an issue. Experts saw this coming, the governor of La. saw it coming. Lose the word “bashing”, Creamy, it’s lost its meaning. You callous blowhards on the right use it whenever there is criticism of your side. You also love to use it to refer to a precious right that is not recognized by the Bush Administration: DISSENT.

It’s impossible to describe his actions and words this week as anything but out of touch, insensitive and confused.

  48. KRJ says:

Ron, we live in the United States of America! not Venezuela. We’re suppose to be the best. And I would think that a white man could have easily killed you, too. Give me a break.

  49. Darth Filibustrous says:

    #5 – Ron

Yet you say that those who couldn’t evacuate because oh, let’s say, they were in a nursing home and had no car, deserved to die? You’re one of the creepiest human beings I’ve encountered…

  50. Vinilo Suave says:

re: #1, No need for dismay on those accounts. The Bushes sprout money instead of leaves, so cost was no issue, and young Porgie was a legacy. Yale had to take him even tho he would have failed an entrance exam if he had not been a legacy. His family game and Yale’s shame covers it for me.

  51. Vinilo Suave says:

re #2, He is always smirking because his face reflects his cognitive reach, which is very short. His only other face is the one he wears when he is sleeping or passed out.

  52. Darth Filibustrous says:

BTW Bush grinned during the speech. Has he no sense of SHAME? And yes, I WILL “bash” him for that.

  53. Brian says:

    Creamy Goodness,
Oh, you’re one of those. Social criticism does not good satire make.

  54. Ron says:

What a bunch of snarling, growling, bitter old Adams. Come to your senses.

I think George Bush is doing some serious soul-searching right now. Everybody makes mistakes. He has made some serious mistakes, and he his at fault, so be it. I can still give him the benefit of the doubt… for now.

All of this demonizing isn’t doing anybody any good. Three trillion dollars missing from the national treasure hasn’t helped at all.

How many people would give a hitchhiker a ride on I-76
150 miles west of Indianapolis? Would you, barf filiblusterous? I can be a real sonofabitch, don’t go there.

Did I say that I didn’t have any compassion for the infirm?

  55. Athiest says:

Hey Ron, you said in your first post – “People were warned ahead of time. If they stayed, it was their own fault. Better to be safe than sorry. Where there is a will, there is a way.”

If you can’t see the stupidity of this statement then I hope to hell you never pick me up hitchiking. Perhaps if FEMA had the funds they would have been able to move the people out of the area that couldn’t before Monday. Now there is forward thinking. Sure, Bush shouldn’t have to worry about the details but he sure as hell is in charge of putting the cash into the hands of people that can worry about the details. But no, they had no choice but to stay. I sincerely hope you really don’t blame them.

  56. Marie says:

Did it take the worst national catastrophe in American history to wake up the sleeping press to the disastrous administration? If this isn’t a prime example of the criminal ineptitude of Bush and his cronies I don’t know what more proof is needed. For 5 years, there have been scandals, lies, and crimes, but this result of his neglect and greed in our country may seal his fate. Who did he have lunch with today? Greenspan – to determine the economic impact of this disaster. Shouldn’t he have met with someone who might actually know how to help the people? That is, if he should have had lunch at all.

  57. Gary Kleppe says:

I think George Bush is doing some serious soul-searching right now.

Hee hee. Yeah right. Bush’ll find his soul about the same time he comes across the weapons of mass destruction.

  58. Joe Sixpack says:

I’m with you, Ron. Everyone here should give our leader the benefit of the doubt. But correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Bush say just before the last election when asked about his mistakes, he couldn’t think of any? Or was that Kerry?

  59. Darth Filibustrous says:

    #53 – Ron: “I can be a real sonofabitch”

    Amen, brother.

And no time for “soul-searching”.. America can do better. He should either lead or step down.

On one habd I applaud him for appointing Clinton to do his job. That’s a good move for the country.

  60. Marie says:

    #5 Ron
Your typical conservative, Republican comment is to be expected. You who have the wherewithall to get what you need are quick to chastise those who don’t –blame the victim. Republicans are good at that. You can’t understand that even with two days’ notice, if you have no money, no transportation, if you are sick or disabled, you don’t have a choice. Evacuation works for those who can evacuate — the rest can just deal with it? Is that your thought? Where there’s a will, there’s a way — just another Republican platitude — Bush is good at those too — “smoke ‘em out” “dead or alive” come to mind and there are many others.
I hope you sleep well in your comfy bed tonight.

  61. Marie says:

Bush put FEMA under the control of Homeland Security. See how good it works now?
What would have happened if this were a “dirty bomb?”
There were no contingency plans for an emergency in N.O. despite multiple warnings and pleas over the years for help to shore up the levees. Bush’s compassion is underwhelming.

  62. Marie says:

Shoot the looters? Who the hell cares what is stolen? Food? Clothing and shoes? Baby food and diapers? TVs and electronics? So what!! The merchants have insurance. The merchandise will be trashed anyway. Save lives – forget the merchandise!

  63. Marie says:

#37 You’re a little late to the party — We don’t usually brag about what charitable donations we make, unlike Republicans who don’t waste a second in boasting about their generosity — Pharasees that they are.
You’re right, though, Bush is disgusting and pathetic.

  64. Ron says:

After spending time in flophouses (every night somebody jiggled the handle of my door to check if it was locked or not, had it been open, I would have been in serious trouble), buses, streetlife that isn’t so hot, yes, I will sleep good in my comfy bed tonight. Thank you very much.

Quitcher beefing and go on out there and help those who are now in the same situation that I once was. It ain’t much fun.

Bush didn’t get my vote, nor did Kerry. I voted for the Green Party candidate in 2004, Mr. Cobb. I am fedup with Republicans and Democrats. Look what they have done to us all.

New Orleans is a wake up call for the US government. Congress can find time in the middle of the night to give themselves raises, but all of them are on vacation right now. Their actions speak volumes. If you want to point a finger of blame, thump it on your own chest.

  65. Marie says:

I missed it — what does ROLFMAO MEAN?

  66. KillCon2005 says:

    Shoot the GOP looters first
