Did the Bush administration’s response to Katrina come far too late?

  1. Susan Says:

Finally, the media is getting it right!

  2. Whoa Says:

    Awesome gallery.

  3. Michael Darravo Says:

America has responded? Oh I forgot, to liberals, the media is America.

  4. Jonathan Says:

    Damn.

You know, I would have taken prompt, competent relief for the victims over more political damage to an already damaged White House any day.

Screw it. This isn't about politics. It's about dereliction of duty. Impeach the bastards.

  5. Jonathan Says:

    Michael,
Most Americans feel Bush hasn't responded well to this disaster. Which means, if you disagree, that you're not representative of America (to say nothing of an outright idiot).

  6. MrTimPA Says:

I agree - FINALLY. If you take a look at:

    http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/theme_home2.jsp

This was the job of DHS - Oops. Heads should roll, but it's not likely to happen.

I had a long discussion with my parents (dad is republican, mom is a democrat) and both really despise the lack of action by our fearless "leader". It's times like these, when you see the freight train coming that you demonstrate your leadership skills. Sure, no ONE person could do much - but a leader can do quite a bit to coordinate things. That's why we elect them into office and it's what they're paid to do. If they can't do it, they don't belong in the position.

  8. bk Says:

    wow. great post, Nico.

  9. Marie Says:

Our Fearless Fosdick Finally got the message Five days too late! What a dipshit.
He is abysmal as president, he must be impeached -- we may not withstand three more years of this.
It's encouraging that many Right-wingers are in shock and anger over his mis-management of this -- of course, he has mismanaged mostly everything in five years, but who's counting?

  10. Carolyn Says:

A rare occassion I can feel decent about our media.

  11. Schubert Says:

Right on Susan -- finally, America is getting it.

The only thing I dread is that all of this will be forgotten around election time. Their spin is so effective.

  12. jon360 Says:

Michael, you're totally right. 5 days to evacuate people from the Convention Center is such a fast response! I'm sure they could have survived at least a month in those conditions before they all died. I have no idea why the majority of people I've talked to and the media are saying "finally".

Oh yeah, and you are the scum of the earth.

  13. Citizen80203 Says:

Don't get to giddy over a press with a backbone. Reporters do their job, editors then review, paper's business management monitors revenue, board of directors demand more ad revenue for next quarter. Business management directs editors to adopt more business awareness, editors then re-edit, reporters scratch head then report.

Repeat, for ten years and what do you get? Petri Dish , with the perfect growth medium for Neo-Con viral growth. Repeat for an extra five years and what do you get? One party rule, with no culpability.

  14. afterthought Says:

    Michael is a troll.
    Feeding trolls just encourages them.
    Just say "NO" to trolls.

  15. Jonathan Says:

    Afterthought -
You're right. But sometimes, just sometimes, it's satisfying.

The thing is, you never can really tell whether people who troll at times like these are part of the gibbering, drooling, trogodyte core of Bush's support or jokesters who are just here to get a rise out of people.

  16. fugmo Says:

I see McClellan (White House mouthpiece) once again had to resort to (paraphrasing here)..."this is no time for finger pointing or partisan politics." My question is, how many times do these boobs in the White House have to totally f&#k things up before it is time for fingerpointing and holding bush and his brown-shirts accountable for their unbelievable incompetence?

  17. afterthought Says:

    Hi Jonathan,

I never just assume people are trolls.
I will engage anyone in a real discussion,
but after you have watched people post for
a while (yes, one can be thrown by people
pretending to be other people) the pattern
    becomes clear.
I also agree that it can be a good vent to
trash trolls, but overall it usually distracts
    from the on-topic discussion.
I am not sure there is much difference between
hard-core Bush fans and "stir-up" for fun
    people.

  18. Michael Darravo Says:

I'm not a troll. I'm merely suggesting that millions of Americans out there are foaming at the mouth over Bush. They realize that America needs to pull together, and that finger-pointing does nothing.

  19. Michael Darravo Says:

Are NOT foaming at the mouth, I meant.

(Laugh all you want at the error.)

  20. Clyde the Ripper Says:

    We need one more "Finally."

Finally we impeached and jailed the crooked bastards!

  21. Ron Says:

Ok, I get it now. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I've finally come to my senses. Bush is dumber than the people here. I should have know all along. But, sometimes the dense dunce that I am just can't see the light.

How much dumber can I get? Well, not quite as dumb as this site and its so-called liberals has become.

You have become the decay that America is.

What losers. Really, you are. Stupid old Adams.

You don't know how far you have fallen from grace.

Pathetic fools. You deserve what is coming your way. So, don't change at all. I'll wait to see it happen.

Actually, George Bush will be his own undoing. Nobody has to lift a finger. He doesn't need any help.

You have plunged the depths of depravity.

I can't generate any sympathy for George Bush, nor any of the bush bashers here.

You and George Bush are cut from the same cloth.

America is doomed. I thought it would progress, move forward, press on. I'm wrong. It will deserve all that it has coming to it. New Orleans will seem like a daydream compared to the nightmare that is coming.

You're beyond help here, and nobody in this world outside of the United States will really care.

Trouble has found you. You've done it to yourselves.

A hard lesson is to be learned. One that Americans will live to regret.

See you at the bottom. See you in hell.

  22. WaltTheMan Says:

Let us not polticize this. Dems and Reps are equally responsible. The Dems for not taking a position and the Reps for supporting the wealthy. At this time, the Dems have to get their act in order or face defeat once more. Bush has no mind, no soul, no compassion and no agenda - he would be history if the founding fathers had they ever realized that a total fool could be selected to the nations highest office.

  23. afterthought Says:

    Gee Ron,

    Are you okay now?
Not sure what your point was, but
if it gave you clarity, good for you.

  24. fugmo Says:

Hey everybody, the FEMA is on the job...just nabbed this off their web-site where they're bragging up the wonderful job they're doing in New Orleans.

"FEMA deployed more than 57 National Disaster Medical System Teams and 28 urban search and rescue teams with nearly 1,800 personnel to save lives and render medical assistance. Teams have rescued more than 350 hurricane victims."

350 victims! Six days after the worse natural disaster in American history. GREAT JOB DEPT OF HOMELAND SECURITY!!! I wonder how many people died because these teams and others weren't deployed last week BEFORE THE HURRICANE HIT and in position to launch immediately? How many lives were loss because Nero fiddled while New Orleans drowned?

  25. Ron Says:

I'm fine. I'm not the one who needs help.

  26. afterthought Says:

    Hi Walt,

I know what you are saying, but I won't
buy the "don't politicize" stuff anymore.
Rove runs the WH, and he politisizes EVERYTHING.
Too bad if they don't want the heat now.
They are in charge, they own the problem.
    Too bad, so sad.

  27. Citizen80203 Says:

    Serious Ron

I read what you wrote, I just don't understand your point or points?

  28. fugmo Says:

Sounds like Ron may have read Revelations one time too many.

  29. jon360 Says:

I don't understand what Ron was saying either. Ron, can you please clarify?

  30. Jonathan Says:

    Ron,
Count me with the ones who couldn't make much of your statement.

Perhaps get a little sleep, think things through, clear your head and try again?

  31. Hank Says:

Ron, you say you don't need help and who am I to argue? But maybe you want to go back a reread your rant at #20---slowly---before you make that self-observation.

  32. Clyde the Ripper Says:

Speaking of finger pointing just look at America's next extinct species saluting the victims of Katrina.

    http://www.storytimedolls.net/mmff.html

  33. Zookeeper Says:

Finally is exactly the correct word to use. I live in the northwest now, but 20 years ago I lived in Louisiana. As soon as I saw that Katrina had skipped over Florida and arrived unscathed in the Gulf, I knew it was going to be a monster, and I thought the coastal states would start moving people out, or at least start encouraging the people who could get themselves out to do so. But nothing happened soon enough. No one who has ever lived in the south can say they had no idea Katrina wasn't going to go big. The water in the Gulf is 87 or 88 degrees this time of year. Their question should have been, Why wouldn't it go to a Category 5?

The Army Corps of Engineers have been warning for years, and have been asking for money to finish the levee project for years. FEMA has been gutted, and know-nothing political favorites have been appointed to run it. The National Guard from all over the country is in Iraq, along with their equipment. Dear Leader vacations endlessly, and panders to his base at every opportunity. The people left behind in NO were not his base. We should all be ashamed that the aftermath of Katrina has gone this way, and we must do everything we can to help. Nobody on earth deserves what happened to these people.

    Had to vent.

  34. Dizzy Says:

Help finally arrives yes, but really, has it not just started?

  35. Zookeeper Says:

#31 - Clyde, you said it better than I. I salute you - with all my fingers.

  36. Dartanyon Says:

Bush is toast. He's DOA. I will venture that at this moment in time, George W. Bush is the most disliked man on earth. And that's saying something because there are some really vile bi-peds roaming aroung (NED.)

  37. Ron Says:

So what? Who really gives a shit about this site and its paucity of intelligence. All it is a bush bash fest. Realllllllly exciting.

I don't believe in The Revelations (revealed religions), they have caused more misery on this earth than Katrina ever could do to New Orleans.

You here are doing more damage to the human race than all of the revealed religions combined.

But, have fun poking fun at George Bush and contrary views that no one here can respect.

I worked hard on the 1968 campaign to elect Hubert Humphrey. Democrats have lost a lot of ground since then. I doubt if they'll ever get it back with the backbiting that goes on here. Good luck to ya. You're all knaves and fools. What else is new?

Stupid Old Adams. Find something new. You will never affect change the way you behave here.

Of course, you don't need to be lectured or patronized, you know it all. Sorry for being so ignorant and complacent.

Healthy debate is non-existent at this place.

Change the name to bashbush.org. It would be approbo.

    How stupid can you get?

I provided a right wing nutcase site just to see how judgemental some here can be.

    Here is another site: pa

don't worry, it won't offend even the most offensive of the so-called liberals here.

You should really go on out and find out what America is all about. You are all witless and clueless.

    Just like George Bush. idiots

  38. scott Says:

I'm really wondering why the press is not making more of the stunning revelation on the Red Cross website (www.redcross.org) that they did not enter New Orleans earlier, because the "state Homeland Security department" ordered them not to. Reason? Because if the Red Cross offered free food, water, medical attention, and emergency housing, then people would not evacuate the city, which is what the government wanted. Of course, those who remained could NOT evacuate, so this government order was effectively a death sentence for many people. This seems like a HUGE revelation of government incompotence, indifference, and a fatal misunderstandinf of who was left in New Orleans, and why they were not leaving. Why aren't we hearing more about it in the media, or from progressive critics of the government handling of the crisis?

  39. $hrub Says:

From the believers in "intelligent design" comes blaming bad intelligence, again. Go figure.

  40. MrTimPA Says:

There are a couple simple facts here among the heated "debate". According to the DHS website (see my link in #6 above), the DHS is supposed to take on these large scale disasters - be it a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. Read their description. So, given that:

Fact: This hurricane was just like a freight train heading towards NO and the gulf coast - it was getting stronger and even NWS (I believe) was predicting some rather doom and gloom scenerios for the city.

Fact: This hurricane wasn't going to go away, and given it's strength, the potential for destruction was real.

Fact: DHS didn't pick up on the NWS predictions and mobilize when they should have - clearly a cat 4/5 hurricane is gonna do some damage.

Fact: President Bush was vacationing (or doing his best to avoid Cindy Sheehan) while this freight train (aka Katrina) was heading towards the gulf coast.

Fact: The president released "disaster relief funds" - but didn't take the extra step of getting DHS to do their job (see their web page).

Now, is Bush responsible? or is DHS? I don't know - but since it was the DHS responsibility to respond to this potential (and now very real) natural disaster, there was a failure.

This is an utter failure of DHS. Thankfully the effected people of NO and surrounding areas are finally being air-lifted out - but I truely believe that many deaths could have been avoided if the government agencies we all pay taxes to support had done their job.

My personal opinion is that Bush and his administration really don't care - he's good at starting wars abroad, but it's clear he and his administration don't care about the average American at home.

  41. MrTimPA Says:

On a different note - there have been some nutball right-wing religious pundants who saw this hurricane as retribution to the decadence/sin/blah/blah in New Orleans. These are the same idiots who profess "Intelligent Design".

The irony is that the French Quarter - "center" to the decadence they hate is for the most part completely intact.

So, either our "designer" isn't so "intelligent" because he "fucking missed the target!" - or, perhaps this was just a NATURAL disaster.

    'Nuff said.

  42. Devin Leonard Says:

The horrific tragedy in Mississippi and New Orleans is proving to be George Bush's worst nightmare...as well it should.

While the majority of wealthy and upper class people in those cities were able to be rescued, the poor whites and blcks who have nothing have been left to suffer. I think Kanye West's comments were innappropriate for a telethon, but he was basically right.

Bush is a rich white Texas Republican, his party pays lip service to blacks and other minorities, but he could give a shit if they die or starve, after all they are not his "base".

Bush and his administration has run the relief effort as incompetently as is humanly possible, and now he and his fellow GOP cowards are coming up with all kinds of bullshit excuses.
Bush sais that "No one expected this"...ge that's funny, for over a week I heard weathermen predicting this entire thing all over TV. How is it that everyone else knew it would happen, but the President of the United States didn't.

Either Bush lives in an alternate reality, or he and Cheney and the rest of these clowns have thier head up each other's asses.

I think it's the latter. To bad so many people must die for the stupidity and arrogance of one man, but hey after Iraq, what do we expect from "King George".

PS. If Democrats don't unite behind Bush's failure to save the lives of his own people, I am going to give up on my party all together.
Democrats need to realize that critisizing an administration that allows poor blacks and whites to starve and drown in their own homes, isn;t political opportunisim...it's telling the truth.

  43. Brian Says:

    Bush played guitar
    Bush ate cake
    Bush gave speeches
    FEMA failed
    Homeland Security was exposed

    All while people were drowning.

  44. Brian Says:

Ron is alone in this world. He knows it.
    I'm not talking about politics.

  45. MrTimPA Says:

Brian: Point. Score. And that's the sad part of this whole thing. Perhaps the half of America who put this chimp in office will wake up and realize what putz he is - then again, I won't hold my breath.

  46. Ron Says:

I voted for David Cobb. I have four beautiful children and a great wife. Alone? Hardly.

But, say what you will about me. Say anything you want. It's a free country.

I feel sorry for you, Brian.

Do you need to berate and belittle others for you to feel better?

Bash Bush somemore, too. Just so you can feel a little bit better about yourself. You could care less about others.

I have worked hard to get where I am today.

I am happy with what I have done with my life and the positive results I have realized.

    grow up

  47. SpudgeBoy Says:

The Santa Barbara News Press is the only one that got Karl Rove's note about the picture for todays front page.

  48. Brian Says:

I did bash bush, today. Idrove around all day here in my RED city and stapled "BUSH FAILED" posters on all the power poles. I'li do it again tomorrow.

Tonight, I'm pulling an allnighter emailing Democrats to let them know their jobs are on the line.

The excuses are already rollin' in from Bush, and the Dems better call 'em on it.

I'm a proud parent, too Ron. We atleast share that I guess

  49. Phil Mockel Says:

The Help We Need is There - But...

Thursday the United Nations offered the full assistance of their disaster relief efforts. They have an armada of helicopters waiting to evacuate those in need. They have water storage tanks ready to put in place where needed. They have emergency food rations, designed and organized for such situations and they have emergency housing equipment at the ready. All they are waiting for is the go ahead from the Bush Administration.

The offer was first made to John Bolton, a man that is absolutely opposed to the United Nations and who has been sent by Washington to undermine and torpedo the UN itself.

The offer was reiterated directly to G.W. on Friday. To accept Bush would have to swallow his pride and admit that the United Nations is a capable agency of the world community. My guess is he will let the people of the Gulf Coast suffer before he will compromise the conservative extremist policy of a multi-lateral world community under their dictatorial rule.

  50. Dolly Says:

the Saturday edition of the Las Vegas Review Journalu featured the picture of Bush embracing the two young, well dressed, clean, obviously freshly groomed, African-American ladies. In keeping with the spirit of the greatest national disaster in the history of this country would it not have been more fitting to have shown a caring President embracing one or two elderly Southern Blacks the day after the storm in the attire they wore to weather the storm? Would it not have been more humanitarian for Bush to have brought the life saving food and water when it was needed? Of course ythey cannot print something that never happened. Why did he even go to New Orleans? He should get a one way trip to Leavenworth, Kansas.

  51. Keneth Bunkport Says:

Ron keeps standing in the middle of the street and pulling his dress over his head for attention, but no one is looking.

  52. BUSH LUVER Says:

BUSH IS A GREAT MAN. I CAN GET RICH AND HE CAN KEEP HIS PANTS ON IN THE WHITE HOUSE! YOU DEMOCOMMIES ARE SICK!

  53. SpudgeBoy Says:

He never went to New Orleans on foot. He was in Missippi. He flew over New Orleans in a helicoptor.

  54. WaltTheMan Says:

If Bush is convinced that Armageddon is around the corner, why does he want to abolish the inheritance tax? Just a logic test.

  55. BUSH LUVER Says:

Ron voted for Cobb. Corn on the Cob at the Bush BBQ. What a liar!

  56. WaltTheMan Says:

flush - keep it clean - we don't waant to sink to their level.

  57. Ron Says:

No, you are wrong BUSH LUVER. I didn't vote for a single Republican nor Democrat in 2004. I've had it with both parties.

If you have to vote for losers everytime around, might as well vote for the one who will lose by the largest margin.

  58. WaltTheMan Says:

OK Ron, you admit you are irresponsible.

  59. Ron Says:

Well, it took a twenty minute or more time period for to be 'flushed' out.

I do those things on purpose here.

Now, I'm a piece of dogshit, too. I'm a neocon turd, too.

What other precious gems can any of you squeeze from your rectums?

    Finally.

You should really look into a mirror and look and see what you really all are.

    Progressive thinkers you're not.

  60. WaltTheMan Says:

Ron, if they do a remake of Green Acres, you could star as Elmer (with substansual training).

  61. Ron Says:

Ok, Waltthelittleboy, you could be Mr. Haney (you won't need any training).

  62. WaltTheMan Says:

    That's Arnold

  63. WaltTheMan Says:

I'm retired - worked 25 years in logic design and 10 in programming.

  64. Ron Says:

See, it's not too difficult to get into an insult knockdown, dragout slugfest now is it?

That's what everyone here is doing to George Bush. A game of hurling insults is easy to play and tough to win.

    Your turn

  65. WaltTheMan Says:

But we know about George W - he ran around on 9/11 on AF1 with his tail between his legs (after sitting on his butt, thumbing through 'My Pet Goat') and when 'Shock and Awe" tumbled into a disaster said we were winning and when the tsunami hit did nothing for days. Now we have Katrina - do you sense a trend?

  66. Ron Says:

We all know the grim reality of what George Bush has wrought. It is not a pretty picture. I am not here to defend George Bush, I'm just sick to death of all of this incessant bush bashing. It is counter-productive.

    It is depressing.

Hoover had plenty of problems, too.

  67. WaltTheMan Says:

But Hoover was able to respond to a flood in 1927.

  68. BUSH LUVER Says:

RON IS A LIAR! HE FAILED TO VOTE FOR BUSH!

  69. BUSH LUVER Says:

RON IS RIGHT! LET'S ALL HOLD HANDS AND SING KUMBAYAH!

  70. Ron Says:

We can make some s'mores, too. Oh, happy day.

  71. BUSH LUVER Says:

    Secret Service Comments

We had a neighbor when I lived in DC who was part of the secret service presidential detail for many years. His stories of Kennedy and Johnson were the same as those I heard from the guys who flew the presidents' plane ---

[yes, Kennedy did have Marilyn Monroe flown in for secret "dates," and LBJ was a typical Texas "good ol boy" womanizer. Nixon, Bush 41, and Carter never cheated on their wives. Clinton cheated, but couldn't match Kennedy or LBJ in style or variety.]

The information below is accurate. Former Pres. Bush Sr. and the current president Bush make it a point to thank and take care of the aircrews who fly them around [When the president flies, there are several planes that also go -- one carries the armored limo, another the security detail, plus usually a press aircraft] and both Bush's made it a point to stay home on holidays, so these Air Force and security people could have a day with their families.

(WHAT WAS, WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN, AND WHAT IS)

    WHAT WAS:

Hillary Clinton was arrogant and vocally abusive to her security detail. She forbade her daughter, Chelsea, from exchanging pleasantries with them. Sometimes Chelsea, miffed at her mother's obvious conceit and mean spiritedness ignored her demands and exchanged pleasantries regardless, but never in her mother's presence. Chelsea really was a nice, kindhearted, and lovely young lady. The consensus opinion was that Chelsea loved her Mom but did not like her.

Hillary Clinton was continuously rude and abrasive to those who were charged to protect her life. Her security detail dutifully did their job, as professionals should, but they all "loathed" her and wanted to be on a different detail. She was hard to work for because she was so nasty and mean toward her detail. Hillary Clinton was uniformly despised by the Secret Service as a whole.

Former President Bill Clinton was much more amiable than his wife Hillary. Often the Secret Service would cringe at the verbal attack antics that Hillary would use against her husband, the then President. They were embarrassed for his sake by the manner and frequency in which she verbally insulted him, sometimes in the presence of the Secret Service, and sometimes behind closed doors. Even behind closed doors Hillary Clinton would scream and yell so loudly that everyone could hear what she was saying.

Many felt sorry for President Clinton and most people wondered why he tolerated it instead of just divorcing his "attack dog" wife. It was crystal clear that the Clintons neither liked nor respected each other and it was through long before the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Theirs was genuinely a "marriage of convenience."

Chelsea was much closer to her father than her mother, even after the Lewinsky scandal which hurt her gravely. Bill Clinton did in fact have "charisma," and occasionally would smile at or shake hands with his security detail. Still, he always displayed an obvious air of superiority towards them. His security detail uniformly believed him to be disingenuous, false, and that he did nothing without a motive that in some way would enhance his image and political career. They did respect him, unlike his wife, but they did not particularly like him and nobody trusted him. He was polite, but not kind.

    WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN:

Al Gore was the male version of Hillary Clinton. They were more friendly toward each other than either of them were towards former President Clinton. They were not intimate, so please don't read that in . They were very close in a political way. Tipper Gore was generally nice and pleasant. She initially liked Hillary but soon after the election she had her "pegged" and no longer liked her or associated with her except for events that were politically obligatory.

Al Gore was far more left wing and very hateful, not just politically opposed, to Republicans than Clinton. Al Gore resented Bill Clinton and thought he was too "centrist." He despised all Republicans. His hatred was bitter and this was long before he announced for the Presidency. This bitter hatred was something that he and Hillary had very much in common. They often said as much, even in the presence of their security detail. Neither of them trusted Bill Clinton and, the Secret Service opined, neither of them even liked Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton did have some good qualities where Al Gore and Hillary had none in the view of their security details.

Al Gore, like Hillary, was very rude and arrogant toward his security detail. He was extremely unappreciative and would not hesitate to scold them in the presence of their peers for minor details over which they had no control. Al Gore also looked down on them in disgust as they finally observed and learned with certainty on one occasion when Al Gore got angry at his offspring and loudly, in their presence, pointed at his security detail and said, "Do you want to grow up and be like them?!?"

Word of this insulting and demeaning verbiage by the former Vice-president quickly spread and he became as despised and disliked by the Secret Service as Hillary. Most of them prayed that Al Gore would not be elected President and they really did have private small celebrations in a few of their homes after President Bush won. This was not necessarily to celebrate President Bush's election, but to celebrate Al Gore's defeat. He was much dis-liked. Al Gore was not a good and kind person. That he could have been our President may suggest that God was "answering prayers" and looking out for the country with Al Gore's defeat.

    WHAT IS:

Everyone in the Secret Service wants to be on First Lady Laura Bush's detail. Without exception, they uniformly concede that she is perhaps the most nice kind, and genuinely good person they have ever had the privilege of serving. Where Hillary patently refused to allow her picture to be taken with her security detail, Laura Bush doesn't even have to be asked, she offers.

She doesn't just shake their hand and say, "Thank you." Very often, she will give members of her detail a kindhearted hug to express her appreciation. There is nothing false about her. This is her genuine nature. Laura Bush really is this kind of a person and her security detail considers her to be a "breath of fresh air." They actually love her as a human being. They joke that comparing Laura Bush with Hillary Clinton is like comparing "Mother Teresa" with the "Wicked Witch of the North."

Likewise, the Secret Service considers President Bush to be a gem of a man to work for. He always treats them with genuine respect and he always trusts and listens to their expert advice. They really like the Crawford, Texas detail. Every time the president goes to Crawford he has a Bar-B-Que for his security detail and he helps in serving them their meals. He eats with them, sits with them, and talks with them. He always asks about their family, the names of which he always remembers, and he of course, knows each of them by their first name, and calls them by their first name as a show of affection.

They believe that he actually loves his security detail and that he is deeply and genuinely appreciative of their service. They could not like, love, or respect anyone more ore than President Bush, and most of them did not know they would feel this way until they had an opportunity to work for him and learn that his manner was genuine and consistent. It has never changed in the time that he has been President. He always treats them with the utmost respect, kindness, and compassion.

Please pass this on. It is important for everyday Americans to have a true inside understanding of their President.

BUSH IS A MAN OF GOD! CHOSEN BY GOD TO LEAD US INTO THE VALLEY OF DEATH!

What has that have to do with the price of tea in China? We are talking about total incompetence here.

  74. Ron Says:

The drive from Whitehorse, Yukon to Haines Junction, Yukon wasn't too bad. But, the drive from Haines Junction to Tok, Alaska had a twenty mile 'no man's land' between the border stations. You don't go walking into the Alaska wilderness unarmed.

That feel-good diatribe is pollyannish, BUSH LUVER.

  75. WaltTheMan Says:

Just to let you know, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist passed away tonight

  76. disgusted Says:

".. millions of Americans out there are not foaming at the mouth over Bush."

Well, not "foaming" exactly, but .. in a rural area where folks consider themselves to be very religious and conservative I am overhearing conversations about 'bipartisan necktie parties', even among the quiet, unassuming types you'd think would never dream of such. Right or wrong people are seeing this as government officials at ALL levels failing to get their thumbs out and do their job. Obvious prediction, next election incuments will be facing a lot of nonpartisan "vote the incompetents out" sentiment.

  77. WaltTheMan Says:

I was a bit short on the post in 74, but would like to say that Justice Rehnquist reminds me of a no-nonsense uncle who never split hairs on an issue. He will reside in Heaven forever.

  78. Brian Says:

Ron is preventing you from emailing congress.
Express your no confidence in this gov't.

  79. Ron the clown at McDonald's Says:

Your head is up yer ass, Walt. That little fvck was a racist pig and I'm glad he's dead, even if it means Bush can appoint Pat Robertson. That bitch is in hell where the lot of them will go.

"It's time to jump ship, Mr. _________

Bush played guitar, ate cake, gave speeches while people died.

FEMA failed. Homeland Security was exposed.

There is no confidence in this gov't."

This is what I email to Republicans

  81. Sharon Cox Says:

Hay, you forgot to mention the mother of evil, Barbra. Theres a sweet gentle kind person...Not.

I didnt realize we had gone from putting blame where it is due to fanatical day dream, short story written for Bush to read if he ever read a book. Send it to Laura she can read it to him. Bet they will chuckle over that while remembering their younger wild drug and drink years.Gee's

Some improvement's down south, we need lot's more help for our people. I'm still on bash Bush, impeach the lot of them and help the people not neocons.

Hey did you hear that, the Boy King and his Mrs. are really nice to their Royal guards. We should just forget about the constant lies. The disgrace piled on disgrace. The illegal war and profiteering. Oh yeah, and tax breaks during war. What a grat guy though.

  84. Marie Says:

#70 is making me sick. Isn't it nice that they are good to their servants? They should be so considerate of the people who employ them!
To go back to former presidents and presidential candidates is a show of the desperation people have in grasping at the straws to find something good to say about the idiot-in-chief.

  86. Nancy Varian Says:

This disaster will not be forgotten by election time. The mid-terms are coming up next year. If the Dems get the guts to use this the way Rove used 9/11, things will change in Congress.

If the greassroots insist they find some guts, they will.

This is a horrible disater whose effects couls have been mitigated if anyone had been paying attention.

I'd say mentioning Lake George, Louisiana over and over again during the midterms would be far more righteous than Bush standing on the bodies of the 9/11 dead to pack Congress in '02.

Remember: This President failed to keep Americans safe on American soil -- twice.

How many more cities can we afford to lose?

During the briefing I believe that I heard the Lt. General say that he had this ship recusing people in N.Orleans.

Captain of the ship says he was ordered away from N.Orleans. This is very damning to the recuse spin being briefed today.

They call it finger-pointing, I call it forcing accountability... FINALLY!

  90. Chris Says:

The vultures of the venomous left are attacking on two fronts, first that the president didn’t do what the incompetent mayor of New Orleans and the pouty governor of Louisiana should have done, and didn’t, in the early hours after Katrina loosed the deluge on the city that care and good judgment forgot. Ray Nagin, the mayor, ordered a “mandatory” evacuation a day late, but kept the city’s 2,000 school buses parked and locked in neat rows when there was still time to take the refugees to higher ground. The bright-yellow buses sit ruined now in four feet of dirty water. Then the governor, Kathleen Blanco, resisted early pleas to declare martial law, and her dithering opened the way for looters, rapists and killers to make New Orleans an unholy hell. Gov. Haley Barbour did not hesitate in neighboring Mississippi, and looters, rapists and killers have not turned the streets of Gulfport and Biloxi into killing fields.

  91. Chris Says:

After days of blaming the federal officials for not responding quickly enough to the Hurricane Katrina crisis, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin praised President Bush on Monday - and charged that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco had delayed federal rescue efforts by 24-hours.

"I'm so happy that the president came down here," Nagin said of Bush's Friday visit to Louisiana in an interview with CNN. "He came down and saw it, and he put a general on the field. His name is General Honore. And when he hit the field, we started to see action."

But Nagin had harsh words for his state's leaders, telling CNN: "What the state was doing, I don't frigging know. But I tell you, I am pissed. It wasn't adequate."
The New Orleans Democrat said he urged Bush to meet privately with Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco during the visit. The meeting took place aboard Air Force One, he said.

After reviewing the crisis with Gov. Blanco, Bush summoned Nagin for a private chat - where, according to Nagin, Bush explained: "Mr. Mayor, I offered two options to the governor. I said . . . I was ready to move today. The governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision."

Reacting to the governor's footdragging, Nagin lamented: "It would have been great if we could of left Air Force One, walked outside, and told the world that we had this all worked out."

"It didn't happen, and more people died."
