… in New Orleans. “This place is going to look like Little Somalia,” Brig. Gen. Gary Jones, commander of the Louisiana National Guard’s Joint Task Force said. “This will be a combat operation to get this city under control.”
Not really the best statement to make in this
situation.
That may be what he thinks, but best to
quietly put many boots on the ground without
sounding like Rambo.
I agree Afterthought, not the wisest statement. I don’t think we should take it too far out of context, you adopt a “mission think” when deploying. Let’s not forget some of these guys have been “active” way beyond the NG shelf life.
It’s the Rove touch. Use war language to describe the situation. Smear, smear, smear. And, of course, the enemy are the refugees stuck in New Orleans. You know, those wild eyed, crazed, gun-wielding, dangerous black folks. So dangerous, they came in with their guns drawn, and at times, pointed them at the citizens. It makes me sick to read this crap and watch what I am seeing on the tube.
Like Somalia? Blackhawk down?
CarrieCann–Smear, smear, smear–damn right. Listening to the BBC news earlier tonight, heard a clip of Shawn Steele (his name is familiar–Republican bigwig in California?)–paraphrasing: “These state and local governments have never taken hurricane threats seriously. And in Louisiana and New Orleans they’ve got corruption. Corrupt politicians. Corrupt police commissioners. . . .” (No transcript on the BBC News website yet.)
I agree with most of what’s said here, but lets not attack our military men and women for the lunatic General Gary Jones. The National Guard is you and me, my neighbor down the block, the guy I sit next to at the baseball game, whose kids go to the same school as mine. Most are well trained and will not use deadly force unless absolutely necessary. The average soldier knows that when the rheteric dies it will be his butt up on charges, not some desk-riding suck ass far up the chain of command.
Lets face it. We need our troops to restore order and stop the rapings and shootings. But if Governor Blanco wants to help instead of being Bush’s fall guy for what went wrong, she should move immediately remove Jones from command before he makes a bad situation worse.
Baton Rouge will essentially become a concentration camp. So is Houston. Houston’s economy will be adversely affected from this.
Native American Indian Reservations have been concentration camps in America for over 100 years now. They’re still here. Hitler took lessons from our fearless leaders. Lincoln imprisoned thousands. Roosevelt imprisoned thousands of US citizens of Japanese descent. There was a Japanese concentration camp in my home state’s capital.
Wake up, folks.
Major combat operations have been going on since the Civil War.
The Bonus Army (veterans from WWI and the Spanish American War) that occupied the DC Mall in the summer of 1932 was attacked by General MacArthur. The Mall became a concentration camp.
That is the way things are in America. It ebbs and flows between political upheavals. Freedom suffers and dies a slow death from it.
The stock market crash of 1929 didn’t really start to sink in until 1931 to 1933. How do you think Roosevelt got elected?
Call me anything you want. If it makes you feel better, go for it.
This all isn’t about how bad bush is or what is wrong with the government or anything like that. It’s about freedom. It’s Orwellian as it can get.
Freedom is Slavery. War is Peace. Ignorance is Strength.

It’s about time the government got its war on and made it to NOLA in time to kick some butt. War gives out lives meaning – what took them so long?

September 3rd, 2005 at 6:50 pmFinally, something this admin. can do. Violence is involved. Maybe they can try out some of their new weapons to impress us all.

Why does it always start with the military? Nothing good can come of it.
September 3rd, 2005 at 7:20 pmI can’t wait for the “Shock and Awe” When will they use those Bunker Busters. To hell with Iran, we can do right here in Amirka.

Espcially ignorance. Here, ignorance abounds.
Sorry to be so brutally frank. The Truth hurts.
Truth is Lies.
