“After Mr. Bush’s visit on ‘Good Morning America’ on Thursday, Diane Sawyer reported on a postinterview conversation in which he said, “There won’t have to be tax increases.” Whew, a true disaster averted.
No new tax increase?
Fox is now playing frequent “No to death Tax” Ads. Tasteful. If passed, where will the money come from to recover with dwindling Tax $’s.
All part of the plan to drown government and privatize.
Death tax. What a crock and Faux News knows it. Just think, if they pass it, the Feds won’t be able to come in and take grandma’s rings off her finger when she’s still on her death bed! Bill O’Righty and Ham Hannity have been pushing that for a while, getting the dumb sh*ts who listen to them believing that the government is really out to steal the average guy’s estate. Hats off to Karl Rove who in the absence of any real democratic leadership has engineered a way for the Repugs to play upon the greedy nature of many gullible people.
Well, good god- of course there will be no sacrifice. Jesus, what would the corporations think? He likes to compare everything to WW2 but FDR was a REAL leader who called on the nation to sacrifice because it was NECESSARY.
And what is the GOP pushing? The estate tax legislation. It’s clear who they are looking out for.
We need to repeal the death tax quickly. With 5,000 dead in New Orleans, there will be just as many estates to distribute to the displaced relatives of the dearly departed. It would be unfair for the federal government to be taking a share of those assets.
After all, we are compassionate conservatives. If you don’t believe me, just ask GDumbya.
No, no tax cuts. What the pukes are already calling for to pay for this disaster is cuts in entitlement programs which aid the very victims of this tragedy.
I truly expect Bush to announce in a couple of weeks that each department is to cut, cut, cut.
LABOR – cut out unemployment benefits
VETERANS ADMINISTRATION – cut back on benefits for veterans
CONGRESS – repeal the recent roads bill but keep in the port for the 6000 projects
I had to smile to myself when I saw that Rove even brought out Saddam again this weekend.
He knows that even if you are not winning the PR battle and the polls, you must drive other stories off the air and papers.
There was no news – as there hasn’t been for the last 5 saddam stories. Just some bit about the fact that he will go on trial.
But the broadcast network threw up the picture of Saddam and his beard and hair problem.
I smiled in admiration at these guys. It was a non-story that drove some NO coverage or Iraq news off the air. Same thing with them trotting out admin people for photo ops. Even if they get criticised for it, the move drives off the dangerous stories.
PS – We should ask how many Americans think they would even let people die in N.O. so they could make the Democrats look bad and win the next election. I would not put it past them
Without repeating the facts concerning the misery, death and destruction in the south, this ignorant fool promises there won’t be any new taxes!!
Early this week his first lunch-meeting was with Alan Greenspan to determine the financial impact of this disaster!
His priorities are on display for us and the world.
He is uncaring, selfish, callous and able to focus only on money — his and his friends’.
Next week we should all contact our representatives and senators — no Democrat should be hesitant to appear partisan any longer — now is the time to repeat over and over again, the failures of George Bush and his Republican party, the the priorities which are clearly on display.
The administration is a disgusting group and the public will support the Democrats if they would show backbone and speak up for the citizens who have historically depended on Democrats to defend them.
Your right Marie, but this leftie is disapointed with all of them right now. Havent seen many down there with Jesse Jackson and Ningen. Day 8 and counting. Bush took 36 hours to change Roberts appointmen to replace Rehnquest. No suprise.I mentioned that on a post here Sat. night. I mentioned I bet he would pick some one faster than his response to our people dieing. Sadly I was right. 36 hours for another right wing judge and 5 DAY’S FOR OUR DIEING PEOPLE. I am sick. Dartanyon, you are partley right, another big reason why Bush and co. were elected was the putting fear of God into the minds of the masses so he could go to war.All these guys are christians you know. His main objective before he went into office was , greed and revenge. He wanted to do what his Daddy didn’t do at any price. Relegion and big business are now one in the same, don’t forget the sound bites. Faith, Family, Bible, Flag. Reformed drunk is nothing more than a carnival barker, shaking hands and getting the cue from all the lake bottom feeders on board with him. He and his bunch use our equal, civil rights and constitution against us, spreading fear through their big business churches. Case in point Pat Robertson. They are all sucking the lives blood out of our country and her people. They preach on T.V. and in church we are the cause of the problem with our Gay,Lesbian, civil right’s issues, abortion and we tax and spend ( theres a good one) We are the working class and they instill they are all going to get rich with them and go to heaven. No matter their dreadful interpretation of the Bible. They want the Armagedon these extreme right indeed hope to bring it about. Rove and all the anti christs are nut jobs with giant ajendas. When we get them out of office I say tax all the wealthy churches just like businesses. Right now none of them are paying, we are with money and lifes blood. Iraq and America. We have major problems here in our country and the poor and working class are paying the ultimate price. No we won’t see any relief especialy now while all the right is calling this a biblical event. Got that.? Half the country is saying Bush has handled this well and the rest of us are seeing the truth. The extreme right are elated at our losses of life down south, they see the entire area as sinful. Can any one other than them believe this crap. What they are doing is sinful. Maybe massive strikes, stop paying all taxes, huge marches and up risings would work, it’s hard to say… Shameful…….Blessings..

I share your misery. We must, however, from the grass roots, compel our representatives to stand up and speak for the average man.
I, too, am shocked that Bush’s ratings are still pretty fair – but on another post, someone explained where those percentages come from and I am sure he is right. We will NEVER persuade some Bush-lovers that their man is a “carnival barker” as you say (I’ve called him a flim-flam man); we have similar mental images of less than honest, mostly sleazy, lying showmen who are great at fooling the public.
I had hoped that out of this enormous tragedy, the media would begin to see that the Emperor has no clothes and report as much; and that the majority of the population would see the same. I also don’t have a lot of confidence in our leaders in Congress, but at this point, we don’t have a lot of choices. We have to work with what we have.
I am looking forward to Washington DC and the impeach Bush/stop the war demonstration that some of us are attending. I feel at this stage in my life, I am a little more free than I once was — I recall feeling much the same today as I was feeling during the 60’s in this country, but at that time I could not protest.
I did see the movie “Unconstitutional” recently and it is a real eye-opener – but I won’t be intimidated. If they want to arrest a grandma, shame on them.
One last thing, if O’Connor can be persuaded to stay on the SC until we can get Bush impeached, or imprisoned (even better) then we might be able to retain a toe hold on the Constitution and eventually return to the land that I love.
Great Marie. I agree 100%. All us old ladies marching every where will be a sight. I won’t be able to go far, haven’t got enough money for gas to get out of town, but I will do my part locally and on the net like I have been…..Wonder where Cindy is right now.? Guess it’s time to go to her site and check it out. Did you march before Iraq when all of us around the world did.? Blessings…..

Sheehan is going to be in Illinois Wednesday – not far from me – and we will show up at Hastert’s office for a demonstration, but I have a Board meeting at night so I will miss the pot luck and candlelight vigil.
Yes, we marched against the war, and against the proposed privatization of Soc. Sec.
I guess part of the ownership society is that the citizens should fend for themselves during/after an emergency. You vote for a tax cutter to erode public services and you get a government which cannot effectively support you in a crisis.
Thank You again Marie. Good job. I live in Washington state and sadly except for the marches, candle light vigils and free stuff close to me can’t attend most things. I get all the invites and phone calls from the party leaders and I keep telling them I do not have the means to travel to Seattle and pay $100 to $1000. for a luncheon. When I lived in Montana and Clinton was running for pres, was working and the fund raisers were considerably less.Oh well we all do what we can….Blessings to you for your work in our progressive effort.
Honestly, who IS this man?
September 4th, 2005 at 1:41 pmHe’s from planet f*ckwad. This loser has to go. Worst president ever.

September 4th, 2005 at 2:59 pmOur “liberal” media has a severely short-term memory unless blowjobs are involved, but fortunately the internets have google. Think (or google) back to when the Megalomaniac In Chief used “leaving thousands of his own citizens dead, blind, or disfigured” and “Iraqi refugees tell us how forced confessions are obtained” and “Your enemy is not surrounding your country — your enemy is ruling your country” as an excuse to bomb the shit out of a country which honestly wasn’t much of a threat. That bullshit really helped to take advantage of the rubes with some good old-fashioned fear-based voting. Jump forward to today as this asshat is playing golf, eating cake and sucking up to billionaires while ignoring a situation that the rest of the world, anyone with a television or the internets, and even Mr. Bill saw coming, using torture to get confessions, shooting our own citizens, and giving photo ops priority over rescue efforts? Guess what, America, your enemy is not surrounding your country, your enemy is ruling your country. Whoa, I just quoted Our Leader. I feel so dirty now.

September 4th, 2005 at 3:35 pmDon’t worry, we won’t raise taxes. We’ll just cut back on a few more infrastructure and emergency management projects.
Clearly, FEMA’s budget can stand some more cuts.
