McClellan “refused to directly answer questions

about whether President Bush would fire FEMA Director Mike Brown” at this morning’s press gaggle. “McClellan said that while the press is interested in playing the blame game, the White House is focused on helping people.” Sound familiar?

  1. Ohioan says:

Lieutenant Commander Sean Kelly, US Northern Command
    BBC World News interview, 9/3/05:

“We had the USS Baton sailing almost behind the hurricane so that after the hurricane made landfall it’s search and rescue helicopters would be available almost immediately. So we had things ready. The only caveat is, we have to wait until the President authorizes us to do so. The laws of the United States say that the military can’t just act in this fashion, we have to WAIT FOR THE PRESIDENT TO GIVE US PERMISSION.”

Perhaps at a later time when it’s more appropriate, I will say Article 3 Dereliction of Duty, President Bush resignation is in order…

  2. Zookeeper says:

Has Georgie ever actually fired anyone? For anything?

  3. Ryan Neat says:

The white house will temporarily ‘focus’ on anything that prevents them for taking accountability for failures… The level of incompetence and irresponsibility and lack of accountability of this administration makes enron look competent…

  4. progressive and proud says:

I agree, Ryan. And it’s good to see you back.

  5. Jon says:

It will be tough for Bush to fire Brown.

After all, Brownie carried Florida for Bush.

    Comment by Zookeeper

well, they did recently demote the person in charge of government contract oversight at the Pentagon – but that was only because she was blowing the whistle on Halliburton …

… then, they threatened to fire the guy at the Treasury when he wanted to alert Congress to the TRUE cost of the Perscription Drug Benefit (cough) …

… let’s see … anyone else want to add to the list? is there anyone who is “spending more time with their family” after they dared disagree with Le Dauphin?

  7. Brian says:

I hope the Dems don’t think they’ll skate on this. I fear their hands are so complicitly bloody that they will not pursue this.

  8. Zookeeper says:

#6 – I guess I should have fine-tuned that question. Shinseki comes to mind now. Thanks, sultry.

  9. Marie says:

    Sultry and Zookeeper
You both are quick to note the obvious.
Bush fires NO ONE who fails- indeed, he rewards them with medals.
He fires/demotes/retires EVERYONE who disagrees with him.
The boy-king resides on his throne.

  10. Marie says:

McClellan is an ass-kissing toady. There are a lot of them in the White House press room.

  11. TAC says:

BUSH LOVES NICKNAMES. DO YOU THINK WE CAN MAKE THESE STICK IF WE USE THEM ENOUGH??

    1. NEW ORLEAN’S new name: LAKE GEORGE
    2. KATRINA relocation centers, with a nod to Herbert Hoover: BUSHVILLES
    3. DICK CHENEY, who supported slashing flood control funds and refused to leave his Wyoming vacation once the deluge began: DICK BAN DIKE
    4. MICHAEL BROWN, FEMA Chief, an incompetent Bush crony who was previously fired from his gig at a horse owners’ association: BRONCO BROWN, MISMASTER OF DISASTER
    5. MICHAEL CHERTOFF, Homeland Security Chief: MISLEADING MIKE, THE HOMELAND HUCKSTER
    6. CONDI RICE, preoccupied with a thousand-dollar shoe buying spree in Manhattan during the crisis: IMELDA RICE or NO SHOES, NO SERVICE
    7. The act of reflexively defending Bush: BUSH FLUFFING
    8. Those who engage in same: BUSH FLUFFERS
    9. When Bush hallucinates about “mandates” or “political capital”: FLUFFY BUSH MOMENTS
    10. Repealing the ESTATE TAX, which is levied only on the richest 1% of estates yet is the GOP’s top priority in this time of crisis: THE PARIS HILTON TAX CUT

ONCE AGAIN, DO YOU THINK WE CAN MAKE THESE NICKNAMES STICK IF WE USE THEM ENOUGH??

  12. George dubya Bush says:

Just a note to let everyone know that I’ll be giving my buddy, Brownie, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Just like George Tenet and Paul Bremer, Brownie has botched a major operation, disregarded the facts on the ground, and made my administration look completely and utterly incompetent. In other words, he’s shown that he’s one of us. In my administration, this is a sign of loyalty and worthy of the highest commendation. He’ll be resigning next week to “spend more time with his family” and the week after that, I’ll string the medal around his neck.
What are you going to do about it?

  13. cynical ex-hippie says:

McClellan refused to answer direct questions? Tsk, tsk. What passes for news these days?
