FEMA tells media

not to take pictures of dead bodies in New Orleans.

  1. Terrytheturtle says:

So we’re afraid to count the ‘untermensch’ in the US as well as in Iraq, now?

  2. Rotwang says:

Of course, this disaster must be “sanitized” for domestic consumption, just like Iraq.

We do not want the public to associate His Illegitimacy with bloated, half-eaten flood victims or Iraqi children who’ve been turned into limbless torsos.

BRAVE TROOPS AND GRATEFUL SURVIVORS *ONLY*! VERSTEHEN? NOW GET THOSE HAPPY CAMPAIGN IMAGES — SCHNELL!

  3. Terry says:

    They took my picture.

And Jeb tried to keep me from starvation and deyhdration.

“Calamas requested Bush be allowed to submit written argument and information to the court “on the issue of the critical distinction between removing artificial life support and the deliberate killing of a human by starvation and dehydration, and whether the latter constitutes the deprivation of [Terri's] life without due process of law.”

  4. Zappatero says:

will the media listen to FEMA, or do their jobs?

    I’m guessing the former.

  5. Karl Rove says:

Hey, that’s just one part of my ten-point program to respond to this emerging disaster.

No, I’m not talking about the hurricane damage. I’m talking about the political crisis that GDumbya created by dropping the ball on this one.

I know it’s not very creative. We came up with the same idea about coffins returning from Iraq. But, hey, as long as GDumbya keeps screwing up, sh*t is going to happen and we need to keep a lid on it.

  6. progressive and proud says:

It might damage the wealthys’ beautiful minds.

  7. Albert says:

This is part of Brown’s “convey a positive image” campaign, right? Have you noticed how many people are on-message saying they will evaluate the response…and see what went RIGHT so those actions can be repeated the next time we have a disaster? Never any talk of what went wrong from this bunch. There is no truth. There is no reality. These people take 1984 as an instruction manual.

I am especially worried by the comment I saw earlier from someone whose friends were arguing that the White House is not responsible because the state did not request help. Some media outlets have made it clear that this was a lie – that the Governor of Louisiana did make the request – but obviously it has not gotten out to everyone. The White House throws out lie after lie after lie figuring one or the other of them will stick with each individual listening because they will not hear all of the rebuttals.

  8. Pablo in Mexico says:

kkkarl rrrrove and bartlett have been put in charge, by King George to make sure that the body count of this disaster not be given to the public. It is a matter of national security.

King George has already decreed that this is only a 100 day disaster by asking for 50B when FEMA is laying out 500M per day, and that amount will increase.

At the same time King George has told his liege in congress to put through, post haste, another 70B tax cut for his supporters and the rich.

Three more years of this and out budget deficit will be 2 trillion, a legacy left by King George for your children and grandchildren.

Isnt it time to fight back at King George and his liege?

  9. Bill Frist says:

Now I looked at a lot of those pictures that were on CNN and what some said were dead bodies, in my professional medical opinion were not – they were clearly just floating face down in the sewage and were only hiding their faces while the camera was on them – they could have had a looted plasma TV under their shirts.

  10. Brian says:

Oh, who wants to waste their beautiful minds on bloated corpses?

  11. Charles says:

You libs need to look to your own. LIEBERMAN is more guilty of any crime here than Bush. Lieberman should have told us Brown was not qualified to run FEMA.

  12. Terrytheturtle says:

    I didn’t know Joe Lieberman was a liberal…

  13. Darth Filibustrous says:

#11 – Charles – “Lieberman” and “Liberal” have nothing in common, other than the occurrences of L and B in the words …

So you agree that Mike Brown should be fired and fired fast… Then why did Bush say on Friday that, “You’re doing a heck of a job.” ???

  14. Ryan Neat says:

Allbaugh recommended Brown (who was unqualified) – are you saying bush shouldn’t read the resume of people his cronies recommend? That style of management would explain why bush ran 3 companies into the ground – and why he’s now doing the same to the country…

  15. Charles says:

I don’t care how Lieberman votes or which party he represents. This response is not all Bush’s fault. There would be good reasons for entrenched Republicans to not speak up against Brown.

  16. Charles says:

Failure builds character, Ryan Neat. And it is something that most Americans identify with. You will never recognize the good things Bush has done.

  17. Hank says:

Pics of daring rescues, or of president bush (small b intended) showing concern and comforting victims are OK. Trent Lott’s pictures along side bush is acceptable and clips of Tom DeLay being involved and on top of things on the Texas side is also good. Likewise, video’s of cheap shots and second guessing of the democratic Mayor of NO and Governor of LA is only good journalism.

But what we don’t need at a time like this is for the media or democrats to start politicizing this.

  18. WaltTheMan says:

    Re: 13
W always deals with opposites- you know terms like mission accomplished, clear skies, healthy forests, etc… .

  19. Terrytheturtle says:

That’s right, it’s times like this that I think about all the good things Bush has done…..

  20. Charles says:

All I know is this. Yes, there was a delay in response. It was unclear about the levees early Monday. But if I were seeing the water coming up around my ankles, I would be cruising. If not out of state, to atleast higher ground in La. There IS AND WAS higher ground.
There must be personal responsibility with the citizens.

  21. Terrytheturtle says:

  22. Ryan Neat says:

    Charles,

You should have watched the news and read the previous posts before you displayed your obvious stupidity. Many were so poor they couldn’t afford to evacuate. Others were too weak, sick or in hospitals. It’s also the responsibility of the government not to let down its citizens in this situation – and apologists like yourself who forget this dishonor the dead! SHAME on you and your incompetent party – the blood is on YOUR hands!

  23. Charles says:

Well then, I hope you guys will atleast own up to the massive and parallel Federal Democratic negligence. Yes, that includes Pelosi, too. Every last one of them.

  24. Keith H. says:

    Lets see:
We’re too late to help evacuate.
It’s too dangerous to attempt rescue.
We won’t allow you to bring in food, water or med. supplies.
    We’re cutting your communication.
Your forbidden to leave the City.
Now don’t photograph the dead, we’ve go to cover our tracks.

  25. Terrytheturtle says:

Charles, last time I looked the GOP was in charge of everything: Congress, the Senate, the White House, the Supreme Court. Apart from a Democratic governor of LA, YOU people are holding the baby – make sure you don’t get any of that raw sewage on your shirt.

  26. Darth Filibustrous says:

#23 – sure we’ll own up to “Federal Democratic negligence” – during the Clinton years FEMA did great, and was routinely praised for its model response to response to the Midwestern floods of 1993, the Northridge earthquake of 1994, and 1995’s Oklahoma City terrorist attack.

During the Bush years he appointed cronies and FEMA was undone. It’s as simple as that. Blaming Nancy Pelosi more than Bush only exposes your blind allegiance to the GOP and not to facts…

  27. Charles says:

The excuse that “we’re not in power!” does not apply to this. I knew there needed to be across the board reaction last Monday night. Not a peep.

    FROM ANYONE.

I couldn’t care less about the Hurricane/Flood. I’m worried about the next catastrophe.

    Lieberman and Collins.

  28. Terrytheturtle says:

On the subject of dead bodies:

Average cost of killing an Iraqi (insurgent or ‘collateral damage’): 100,000 Iraqis at $200 billion,
    = $2,000,000 per Iraqi
    Economic benefit to US:
    = $0

Average cost to save 10,000 New Orleans residents: ‘hundreds of millions’ http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-09-01-water_x.htm, so being generous, say $2 billion and maybe saving $50 billion in economic damage

    = $200,000
    Economic benefit to US
    = $50 billion hurricane damage
= $200,000,000 per day saved from disappearing from the pockets of Americans by price gouging oil companies

Whichever way you look at it, dropping napalm on Iraqis is a bad business decision…

  29. Darth Filibustrous says:

“When Bush declared a state of emergency in Louisiana on the Saturday before Katrina struck the Gulf, he made a PROMISE to residents that he would respond. People died because they didn’t deliver on their promise.”

    - George Haddow, ex-deputy chief of staff, FEMA

  30. Charles says:

This is Lieberman and Collin’s FEMA. The buck stops at their Commitee.

  31. Terrytheturtle says:

Charles, you are confusing the legislative and executive branches of government. over to you Scott McClellan:

“Q I just want to follow up on David’s questions on accountability. First, just to get you on the record, where does the buck stop in this administration?

    MR. McCLELLAN: The President.

Q All right. So he will be held accountable as the head of the government for the federal response that he’s already acknowledged was inadequate and unacceptable? ”

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/09/20050906-5.html

Come on Charles, why don’t you try blaming Clinton next…

  32. Zookeeper says:

If you don’t take the pictures, and the public doesn’t see them, then they don’t exist. Like the coffins returing from Iraq.

  33. Albert says:

Charles, you do know that Collins is a Republican, don’t you?

I had heard about that exchange with McClellan regarding where the buck stops. Who asked that question? I wish the President himself had been asked. Squirm you filthy lying President. ‘I don’t think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees.’ FEMA’s own study said a direct hit on New Orleans could result in 40,000 to 60,000 deaths. I heard this before the storm. Where were you Mr. President?

  34. Charles says:

Of course I know Collins is a Republican. I’m trying to assess blame, not “Rally the base!!”.

  35. $hrub says:

” Let me tell you somethin’ foaks. WE ARE PROBLEM SOLVERS”
    No pictures. Problem solved

  36. Terrytheturtle says:

So let’s review: Joe Lieberman is responsible for letting Brown in to run FEMA…

    (1) The GOP has the casting vote on the committee, so even if Weepin’ Joe voted as the people who elected him would wish him to vote, it would make no difference
    (2) Even if Brown was blocked from FEMA by a filibuster, Chimpy would ‘John Bolton’ him – after all a crony is a crony in Chimpy’s book
    (3) Weepin’ Joe votes with what Chimpy wants 46% of the time anyway http://www.bushwatch.com/demwatch.htm

Hmm, Charles I don’t see your point… apart from electing spineless representatives, I fail to see how any Democratic voter can bear any responsibility for anything this GOP-controlled one-party state has done in the last 5 years.

  37. Steve Lichtenstein says:

Let’s see what kind of guts the media has with this?? Will they cave or will they be angry enough to intensify their efforts to get the pics.

    The plot thickens

    Steve L.

  38. Stephanie says:

Is fema feeling a little guilty about their response time? The media is just doing their job.

  39. appalled says:

I think this is what might mess up Barbara’s beautiful mind, since it was done by her beautiful family.

The captions are in German but you will get the idea.

    http://www.stern.de/politik/panorama/545498.html?nv=fs&cp=4

  40. Charles says:

Okay, Terry. I said Lieberman(as well as Collins) are guilty of not taking measures to inform the public of an irresponsible decision to hire Brown.

  41. wisedup says:

they do the same thing to our dead service men. It took me some time but found some caskets of them thanks to
Michaelmoore.com I have posted the pictures in my business office.

  42. EasyRider says:

“We have requested that no photographs of the deceased be made by the media,” the spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

    spokeswoman???

Who the hell was it? Yet again hide the identity of sources.

  43. Terrytheturtle says:

Charles, who nominated David ‘Caligula’s Horse’ Brown?

The Chimp in Chief, the Big Cahoona, George ‘Whatever’ Bush himself.

  44. Terrytheturtle says:

I think that most (Voinivich included) of the foreign relations committee suggested that perhaps John ‘all my shirts are brown’ Bolton may not be quite the man for the UN. The public was informed, Chimpy shot the bird at the Senate. Joe Lieberman you are free to go and go as far away as you can please and let someone who will oppose this administration represent the people of Connecticut.

  45. Marie says:

Yes, yes, yes! Of course, the pictures of corpses is far too upsetting to the public accustomed to watching three versions of CSI on TV every week.
This is reminiscent of not photographing the coffins of fallen soldiers and bringing in their caskets in the dead of night at the “delivery” entrances of the facilities in order to protect the “sensitivities” of families.
These guys make me sick!! They cover up the results of their dirty work and voila! it’s gone, it doesn’t exist.

  46. Marie says:

If the media, which seems to have located the general area of their backbone lately, even if they haven’t exactly pinpointed it, is not willing to take the heat, they will roll over and use the excuse of “sensitivity.” Back to square one.

  47. Marie says:

Have you all heard the toadies, lined up in single file, ready and waiting, tell their version of how this was all a local problem?
Get ready folks, the army is ready to beat down those who dare to blame this administration.

  48. Fox News says:

I’m sure we could go bank and find how many hours, how many photos were done even on the Bush (Fox) network itself for schiavo.

I thought at the time and still think that they were embarrasing and an invasion of her privacy but just part of the price of our freedom of the press.

As usual they take positions depending on the situation. Even in their claim to stand on principle they show again they are the ultimate moral relativists.

  49. thom says:

I’m collected pictures to honor the dead. These people tell the true story of Bush’s homeland security. If you find more please send them my way. I will host these, as many are quickly dissappearing from the web.

  50. The WB42 5:30 Report With Doug Krile says:

Wednesday. And We’re Not Out of the Woods, Yet

It’s all Katrina again today. Some amazing bits of information and some incredible video clips.

  51. David B says:

    Charles,
What are you smoking, good things that Bush has accomplished!! Without a doubt time will prove Bush to be the most inept and IQ challenged individual to ever hold the office. Shame on you for your continued support of obvious fascism and a government for the select rather than the people. You are a traitor to America and democracy.

  52. Sharon Cox says:

Charles, please bring me up to speed. I am an old woman and would dearly like to read first hand from you just what Bush has done for the american people and the world. Make me a list I can read, please. I will hang it on my fridge to look at every day. Please include in your list, enviromental and wildlife issues right after the domestic and foreign. After which I will gladly give you this old woman’s spin on your list. Thank you for your time.

  53. WaltTheMan says:

    Re: 52
    Here’s a start:
No children are being left behinnd
    The mission is accomplished
The deep attention and resolute action on 8/6/2001 DB
Tax burden xfered from the rich to everyone else
    The Iraqi occupation
The axis of evil has been identified – and ignored – except for Iraq’s WMDs
    Declining job market
    Flat stock market
    Declining dollar
    Increased trade imbalance
    The response to Katrina
CIA agents working on WMDs outted

I could put together a more complete list, but it would crash the WW Web.

  54. Pablo in Mexico says:

Attention all you wingnuts on this site. This will make you happy, you all love the shrub so much.

Bush and rove have ordered the “evacuation” of all the media from NOLA.

The military is confiscating at this time all their modes of transporation.

You guys love it, dont ya? Democracy, what democracy?

  55. WaltTheMan says:

    Re: 54
    What wire service?

  56. bush's legacy says:

A few more for the guy #49 who is trying to preserve them.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=15935338&method=full&siteid=94762&headline=tragedy-of-lonely-corpses-name_page.html

I understand now why Bush wanted the Mayor to give up control over the city to him.

It sounds just like those cities where the soviets used to keep everyone out. Some historians now believe that the last failed attempt to hide disaster at Chernobyl was one of the things that brought on the end of the empire.

    http://www.time.com/time/daily/chernobyl/chernobyl.index.html

  57. WaltTheMan says:

    Re: 54, 55
I have nnot been able to validate item 54. I checked international services and have yet to hit a match. I did French and German, but cannot do Spanish or Italian.

  58. Leslie says:

Katrina has peeled back the layers of America that Charles and others see to reveal the one they do not or do not want to see or cannot see: There are a LOT of poor people in this nation but there are many more almost poor. They are black white brown yellow, they are not mostly unemployed; indeed, they are mostly employed, but as workers who have jobs that pay minimum and low wages and offer no benefits like health care (gee, do you think they’ll need any after this?) or life insurance, or investment plans, or credit unions. These are the people who make minimum wage which comes out to $220 per week before taxes and other deductions. If you have to live paycheck to paycheck, how big could your cash reserve be? With limited access to cash or credit the poor and almost poor also lack access to the things that we’d like to believe everyone in America has: good safe neighborhoods with good housing stock, for instance, or good quality public education in the elementary through high school years that leads to opportunities for higher education or job training and thus an increased income. And that’s the adult population.

And then there are the others that we do not see: 22 percent of the population of New Orleans is younger than 14 (30 percent if we go up to age 19); 12 percent are over the age of 65. That’s third of the local population. And I think we are safe in counting them among the children left behind in No Child Left Behind and the elderly who cannot live without social security, medicare, and prescription drug plans.

Seems to me that this is a wake up call. It’s time for us to get real about ourselves. So I’m coming to this thinking that maybe it’s not JUST a matter of who waited too long and what government official called for what when but what they call for at all. Too many of our systems do not take into account the REALITIES of too many people’s lives. And not just the ones in New Orleans, but the ones all across American from our biggest urban centers to our smallest rural towns.

  59. bush's legacy says:

    some more photos for #49

    http://www.lemonde.fr/web/portfolio/0,12-0@2-685875,31-686088@51-627421,0.html

Their main page for coverage here at this link, and the photos and graphics are on the right side of the page.

    http://www.lemonde.fr/web/portfolio/0,12-0@2-685875,31-686088@51-627421,0.html

It’s so Orwellian, I half expect these evil #@$$@ to find a way to silence the foreign media, or at least, like China, block the traffic on the internet. Bush wouldn’t have to do it himself. The NY times can just buy up all the ISP providers and add filters.

  60. WaltTheMan says:

$220 per week? That’s more than I made after I joined the work force with a college degree. I even bought a $1995 Karmen Ghia(new) on those sinful wages in 1963.

  61. bush's legacy says:

Sorry the link to the main page for Le Monde’s coverage and pictures is here.

    http://www.lemonde.fr/web/sequence/0,2-685875,1-0,0.html

  62. Leslie says:

I know. $220 a week was more than middle class 40 years ago — when they made Volkswagens were cheap and reliable.

  63. WaltTheMan says:

Actually, I made about $180 and felt as rich as the Shah at the time.

  64. Sharon Cox says:

Yep! I baught 10 acres of land in Wash.State. and put a little house on it and my pmt was $75.00 a month Had a 1956 T. Bird I baught used for $50.00 a month( wish I still had the T. Bird.) Was raising 3 children and husband, 1 poney, 3 pigs and chickens on that much money in 1961. Oh well! Great post Leslie and Walt the man. You forgot, I think, The Patriot Act, Protect terrorist living in America and distruction of our constitution. Walt. Interesting I read somewhere on my dozens of sites that the rich and powerful have been hoping for this very thing to happen down south. Can’t believe it but guess it was for oil and developers. Will try to resurf all the stuff and see if I can find it. Maybe another of the conspirecy junk, given this bunch nothing is a big suprise. Say did Charlie ever respond to my request.? Did I miss it.?

  65. WaltTheMan says:

    Sharon,
I tried to respond for Charlie, but he or she has gone mum. I cold go on-
    Clear skies
    Healthy forests
    National (Un)security
    Emergency preparidness
    Homeland (In)security.
    Free Speach

  66. Sharon Cox says:

Thank’s walt, guess Charlie is out looking for Bush, The Saudi prince, BenLauden. All are missing in action untill oil royalty checks start rolling in. Think I will keep the pig magnet on the fridge to remind me of this Bush bunch….Blessings

  67. WaltTheMan says:

I have a dog magnet spewwing yellow rain on his highass.

  68. WaltTheMan says:

    Sharon,
I wish I still had that Karmen Ghia, could have bought about two of the pyramids at Gaza for its value now, and then there are all of the comic books that went into the trash when we moved from Baltimore to Dallas.

  69. Sharon Cox says:

Walt, in our area there are lots of classic car clubs and I always go see all the cars, one old gal here in the Everett, Wash. area has a perfect red Ghia convertible. Saw a 56 T. bird sold here the other day for 48,000. Oh well! What happened to Charlie.? Ha Ha! Guess he’s looking for the list from Bush of all the good he has done…Blessings

  70. OutragedCitizen says:

Well, it looks like you guys gave Charles a well-deserved WW SmackDown! I’m enjoying this and hope that this nation will finally wake up to what’s going on in the country. I love to travel, especially to Europe, and I’m embarrassed to tell people I’m an American. Yes, I support our troops, now that they’re in Iraq. I’m not “unpatriotic” as some would call me. They are doing what they were told to do. What I don’t support is the administration that sent them there. How soon people forget that the same tactics the Nazis used are being repeated right before our eyes. Hell, they’re probably trailing this list and marking down all the unpatriotic things we’re saying right now. Free speech. Right! As long as you’re not saying something bad about W. I can’t believe they impeached Clinton and allow this buffoon to continue “leading” our country. Those poor people in Mississippi and Louisiana who voted for this clown are getting a serious slap in the face for their loyalty. If Bush has this direct connection to God (haha), then why did this Biblical plague strike at his wonderful, beloved people? Hmmm? The Bible, if Bush ever actually read any of it, says to judge the tree by the fruit. Let’s just say that at this moment I wouldn’t want to be the taste tester of HIS fruit!

  71. Sharon Cox says:

Very Good!….Blessings…P.S. Where’s Charley, Bush, BenLauden, Saudi Prince.? Still waiting for the list. Oh forgot the required time is at least 5 day’s unless it is a tax bill or another judge to elevate higher up the ladder of deciet, in that case it takes 36 hours.Day 2 and waiting.

  72. wisedup says:

Amazing we have to go to France for ‘Freedom of the Press”
