Well, it looks like you guys gave Charles a well-deserved WW SmackDown! I’m enjoying this and hope that this nation will finally wake up to what’s going on in the country. I love to travel, especially to Europe, and I’m embarrassed to tell people I’m an American. Yes, I support our troops, now that they’re in Iraq. I’m not “unpatriotic” as some would call me. They are doing what they were told to do. What I don’t support is the administration that sent them there. How soon people forget that the same tactics the Nazis used are being repeated right before our eyes. Hell, they’re probably trailing this list and marking down all the unpatriotic things we’re saying right now. Free speech. Right! As long as you’re not saying something bad about W. I can’t believe they impeached Clinton and allow this buffoon to continue “leading” our country. Those poor people in Mississippi and Louisiana who voted for this clown are getting a serious slap in the face for their loyalty. If Bush has this direct connection to God (haha), then why did this Biblical plague strike at his wonderful, beloved people? Hmmm? The Bible, if Bush ever actually read any of it, says to judge the tree by the fruit. Let’s just say that at this moment I wouldn’t want to be the taste tester of HIS fruit!

Walt, in our area there are lots of classic car clubs and I always go see all the cars, one old gal here in the Everett, Wash. area has a perfect red Ghia convertible. Saw a 56 T. bird sold here the other day for 48,000. Oh well! What happened to Charlie.? Ha Ha! Guess he’s looking for the list from Bush of all the good he has done…Blessings

Yep! I baught 10 acres of land in Wash.State. and put a little house on it and my pmt was $75.00 a month Had a 1956 T. Bird I baught used for $50.00 a month( wish I still had the T. Bird.) Was raising 3 children and husband, 1 poney, 3 pigs and chickens on that much money in 1961. Oh well! Great post Leslie and Walt the man. You forgot, I think, The Patriot Act, Protect terrorist living in America and distruction of our constitution. Walt. Interesting I read somewhere on my dozens of sites that the rich and powerful have been hoping for this very thing to happen down south. Can’t believe it but guess it was for oil and developers. Will try to resurf all the stuff and see if I can find it. Maybe another of the conspirecy junk, given this bunch nothing is a big suprise. Say did Charlie ever respond to my request.? Did I miss it.?

It’s so Orwellian, I half expect these evil #@$$@ to find a way to silence the foreign media, or at least, like China, block the traffic on the internet. Bush wouldn’t have to do it himself. The NY times can just buy up all the ISP providers and add filters.

Katrina has peeled back the layers of America that Charles and others see to reveal the one they do not or do not want to see or cannot see: There are a LOT of poor people in this nation but there are many more almost poor. They are black white brown yellow, they are not mostly unemployed; indeed, they are mostly employed, but as workers who have jobs that pay minimum and low wages and offer no benefits like health care (gee, do you think they’ll need any after this?) or life insurance, or investment plans, or credit unions. These are the people who make minimum wage which comes out to $220 per week before taxes and other deductions. If you have to live paycheck to paycheck, how big could your cash reserve be? With limited access to cash or credit the poor and almost poor also lack access to the things that we’d like to believe everyone in America has: good safe neighborhoods with good housing stock, for instance, or good quality public education in the elementary through high school years that leads to opportunities for higher education or job training and thus an increased income. And that’s the adult population.

And then there are the others that we do not see: 22 percent of the population of New Orleans is younger than 14 (30 percent if we go up to age 19); 12 percent are over the age of 65. That’s third of the local population. And I think we are safe in counting them among the children left behind in No Child Left Behind and the elderly who cannot live without social security, medicare, and prescription drug plans.

Seems to me that this is a wake up call. It’s time for us to get real about ourselves. So I’m coming to this thinking that maybe it’s not JUST a matter of who waited too long and what government official called for what when but what they call for at all. Too many of our systems do not take into account the REALITIES of too many people’s lives. And not just the ones in New Orleans, but the ones all across American from our biggest urban centers to our smallest rural towns.
