Shouldn’t the guy have been thanking him for all he’s done the past week, all the press conferences, all the uring of his corporate cronies to contribute, all the condolences to the fallen…oil rigs?
Oh wait, that’s right, this is the first time he’s crawled out from under his rock in several weeks isn’t it?
I think he was trying to make a joke saying it was a “friend of John’s”, the guy standing next to him, but I think he may have got the name wrong or realized the best thing to do was just keep going.
By “John, urr..” he meant John’s wife, Mrs Kerry.. who swore, remember? Loved the fact that guy was ABLE (meaning unrestrained) to say it and get away.. Now that N.O. is dispersed, and should probably be still at election time, does anybody think all their non-Republican votes will be thinned out? I wonder how long N.O. when it gets itself back into the city will vote Democrat? lol
Meran
yes…the mantra of the year….we should practice it and use it as often as possible….can you imagine millions of people in unison…”go f**k yourself ( insert bush adminsitration bozo here), go f**k yourself!
Just a minor point. This was not in NOLA but in MS! Imagine if the NOLA got a chance to let him know how they feel. From the CNN story: “Most of the people Cheney met with were friendly. Lynne Lofton, whose house further down the street was completely destroyed, was an exception.
“I think this media opportunity today is a terrible waste of time and taxpayer money,” she said. “They’ve picked a nice neighborhood where people have insurance and most are Republicans.”
Nice to see that Dick Cheney can still see the funny side, of this appalling situation.
Quick Dick have a laugh about the situation, and try and aim a funny quip towards the your heckler. Don’t give up your day job Dick, (whatever that is).
Next week watch Dick Cheney, at a comedy club near you. Watch Dick die on his arse, as he tries to be a comedian, (jokes supplied by Karl Rove).
Maybe Dick and Ann Coulter could team up, and become a comedy double act together. The new Laurel & Hardy of right-wing slapstick. Which one of them is the straight guy? And which one is the stooge? Maybe they could kick-off their tour on the comedy circuits, of New York or the Deep South.
I say, I say, I say, Dick. Have you heard the one about the poor and black people of New Orleans who have been affected by the aftermath of hurricane Katrina? And have no food nor water, and the thousands who have died, or those that will die.
No Ann I haven’t heard the one about the poor and black people of New Orleans who have been affected by the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. And have no food nor water, and the thousands who have died, or those that will die……………………….
They will all vote Democrat. They hate the republicans now.
But, I don’t know why I bother, you probably think that Bushco did a great job handling the situation in LA, MS and AL and you probably think that nobody from New Orleans is complaining.
#31 — Rush says a lot of them may turn Republican, because Republicans saved them, gavem the debit cards and launched them on new, productive lives in other states.
How the fuck long does it take for Oxycontin to wear off?
I pray for Bush to the right thing.I pray also for Cheney to the right thing.Haliburton the company that Cheney was a CEO has a contract to rebuild New Orlean. So I hope Cheney will do his best to help the victim and the disaster area.
I wonder what happen to the person who was being rude.Hope that Cheney let him go.
So let all prepare for the worst but hope for the best.
So much for locals welcoming help from the administration. While delivering a press conference in the Gulf Coast, Vice President Dick Cheney was told “to perform an anatomical sexual impossibility,” as The Washington Times once described it. Check ou…
shawn hannity is going to have a meltdown tonight.
Dissing the VP.
Bet they spend a whole hr. on it.
“those people” looting ,and cursing and not evacuating and they don’t want to stand in line for things!
At the fox news nearest you!!!!
I wonder how Bill O’Reilly will spin this one… I mean, oh wait, he’s in the “No Spin Zone”… So will it be more “oh by the way, you can’t depend on government to help you in your time of need” tonight? Why are we paying taxes at all again when this is what comes of it?
I think Fox News is probably thinking of a way to spin this so that the protestor is to blame he should not be allowed to use the same language as the VP.
I thought that was funny and if I think it’s funny that means it makes the Filthy Left look stupid.
But really, I don’t blame the guy for telling the Vice President off. What the hell? I would too if I were a White man in what’s left of the South seeing the administration bend over backwards for all the Black losers in New Orleans. Most of whom are in my neck of the woods now, getting free room and board, walking around money, new cars (8 new Toyota’s stolen off the lot across from the Astrodome so far) and 2.3 million dollars worth of seized designer clothes.
The difference between me and that poor man is I’d say, “Go fuck yourself, sir.” That boy is regretting his mistake right this minute. You betcha.
“I think the hurricane refugees are in their last throes.”
Oh no they aren’t Mr. A. These boys are just getting going. Don’t even dream that the race hustlers and corrupt politicians in Louisiana are going to give up on a multi-billion dollar pay day and hours and hours of prime time television. We will have to pry our wallets out of their cold dead hands. Yes sir. You might as well sell your TV right now ’cause that’s what’s on.
Agitprop: Please don’t use the term refugees any longer. They are not from another country, they are American Citizens who happen to be predominately African American and largely treated like animals by the widely white anglo saxon men running this country. They were huddled in large unsafe complexes with no running water or food for days, forced onto buses or planes and not told where they were going or worse yet had their children taken from them. (sound familar?) Give those people the dignity they deserve, they are Citizens. The time for change is now. We need a new declaration of independence. I believe a french politician said, that when the people of the world want peace, government better get the hell out of the way.
If someone leaves LA, MS or AL and goes to say TX. They are still in the United States of America. They are still in their native land. They are not refugees. They are Americans.
[…] For some reason, I don’t think this will see much mention on the news tonight: Cheney gets told to go fuck himself by (presumably) a Katrina survivor. If nothing else it’s heartening to see the administration’s ability to suppress dissent starting to slip — a year ago no-one would have gotten within a hundred yards of Dick without being thoroughly vetted for pro-administration views. […]
Instructions to Cheney:
Put head between your legs as far as you can, then reach up and kiss your ass good bye, because being cursed with an F-U is the only the beginning of what’s ahead of you in the future.
People take refuge in a storm, but that does not make them refugees. Refugee is a political term. I remember a time when all foreigners were derided as being DP’s, a pejorative term for displaced persons. Kids used to taunt other kids who “dressed funny” with “dumb DP!” I see this term as similar. Those who say the victims are refugees may not mean to be insulting, but to correct their ignorance, they should be so informed.
Please explain to this ignorant troll why there are so many poor people in NOLA - and why the school system is soooo shitty, and why (until recently!) the cops were so corrupt and deadly. I know…I know… NOLA was not a Dem stronghold for AGES - IT’ ALL SHRUBS AND CHENEY’S FAULT. In whose pockets are the $BILLIONS$ spent on the levee?
Come on people. how cool is it really that somebody said FU to our beloved Uncle Dick? No big whoop right? Now if one of your homo pals said, “I’d like to FU I think you’d get a much better bang for your advertising buck. CMW or Clyde the Stripper please take note.
#67 MA is an elite snob who has never met a poor person. She just can’t understand why they choose to live as they do.
Why do poor people live in NO? Why are their schools poor?
The answer is far more complicated than can be explained here.
They are criticized for living in the wrong place? Where the hell do you live?
They work in service for the casinos, oil companies and other elites who operate business there and they get paid minimum wage.
Their schools are poor because they are in the poor neighborhoods = little tax revenue (sort of like getting blood from a turnip).
[…] Hah, AP picked up the “go fuck yourself” to Cheney (video here and here): Vice President Dick Cheney was confronted by an irate heckler when he toured the US Gulf coast region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Cheney, who was sent to the region by President George W. Bush amid intense criticism of the federal response to the disaster, was briefing reporters in Gulfport, Mississippi on his impressions of the relief work when he was interrupted by a bystander. “Go f—(expletive) yourself Mr. Cheney!” the unidentified man shouted. Then he repeated: “Go f…(expletive) yourself!” Asked by a reporter if had encountered similar protests during his tour, Cheney replied: “That’s the first time I’ve heard it.” Cheney famously used the same expression in a Senate confrontation with Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy over Cheney’s links to defense contract giant Halliburton. […]
IRightI
You brought up the homo part so tell us about it. You and Cheney get it on lately. I hear he’s well endowed. I won’t bother to support that with links, though I could, but since you never back up the crap you spew i won’t waste my time.
By the way, catch those news items about oil companies memos talking about how their refineries were producing more than they could sell so they wanted to slow things down to keep the price up.
People were shot for actions like those during WWII
IRightI
Buy your tank yet. YOur combover will look good hanging down one side of your cranium as you give all your money to your oil company masters. Then bend over and spread ‘em cause they’ll want more from you.
Anyonw know of a mirror or another host for this clip? I get timed out or refused when I try to view it. (presumably from their bandwidth geting nuked)
Remember how Richard Nixon was forced to resign? First Spiro Agnew was replaced with Gerald Ford, so there would be an uncorrupt president-in-waiting. Dick Cheney must be concerned that the same fate awaits him. As Bush’s puppet-master the last thing he wants is to end his political career in disgrace, heart problems not withstanding. Engineering his departure would appear to be possible given the will, as just about every US politician seems to have done at least one thing that justifies resignation or impeachment if you dig deep enough. One answer to Dick’s dilemma would be if Bush were to suddenly and unexpectedly depart the scene: Accident, illness (physical or mental), criminal act, or even heaven forfend, assignation. Just thinking aloud.
Caption Contest: “So there I was on the Senate floor and that Mick tool Leahy came up to me and was mouthing off and I just said, …. now what was it again… anyone over there remember?…”
Mighty aphrodite, #67, glad you challenged the ignorant lefties here to try and educate you on Bush and Cheney. Me and you being rightwingers, we both know that would be a waste of time no matter how crooked and sleazy. I like the way you didn’t address the purpose of this post and instead switched your post to an attack on the poor, democrats in general, the police, and the schools.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the subject here is about Dick Cheney, who some would call a sleazy, pastyfaced, draft-dodging, lying, foul-mouthed bully. Others would call him an unprincipled, hypocritical, loudmouthed, vulgar, baseborn, lout. I mean, not me of course, but its impossible to say anything good about an asshole like that so an attack on NOLA is about the only thing we can do, huh, aphrodite?
1) Pretty mildly voiced statement. Sounds NOT like a protester, who would have shouted it, but like someone who was there for a reason, who didn’t like the BS job Cheney was handing down from his perch in the Asshole of The Universe.
2) Pretty sure ‘Jonn…’ was a dig at Kerry, not that he couldn’t remember Leahy’s first name. Cheney hates Kerry, because Kerry won the election, and Cheney knows it.
i’m e-mailing this little ditty to everyone I know. Give that person a medal, all of the ones that bush and cheney never could qualify for or deserve. hope bushy and all of the other white house scum get a chance to hear this. i’d like to see it all over the net, like one of those fake ads, photo op trip to mississippi on air force one, taxpayer cost:$15,000, knee deep waders, tax payer cost: $150.00, new shirt, tax payer cost: $75.00, warm welcome from local resident: priceless.
By the way winamp and other players work fine reproducing the video. just a thought in case you don’t want to support the worlds other great scum at microsoft.
The people no longer vote for their leaders. In my state, they recently approved the purchase of these crooked voting machines. But, this state is psycho-republican anyway.
I love how quickly people like you go to the race card…the most affected were the POOR…all poor black and white.
I love to see how people like to point to Bush and his office and say “what have you done, why aren’t you helping us?”
Kerry would have done better? You people are idiots for pointing fingers and putting blame on anyone but the people who live in a city that is BELOW WATER LEVEL…and then don’t leave when the storm is coming.
This is sad but maybe if most of the people on this message board would just shut up and work towards a solution then we as a country can get through this.
“Revolution is coming”?? Put the bong down long enough to donate some clothes, food, money and FIGURE IT OUT, MEAT
Joe, I can see why you’re content with a Sixpack - and probably crappy pissy beer at that. Shitty schools sometimes breed pooooooor citizens. I know you enjoy living vicariously thru others, Joe, so give Cheney a big FU yourself.
Ray, #95, my man! Thanks for the help here putting these liberals in their place. That crack about them being “idiots” really hit home. Like your remark about them asking Bush “what have you done, why haven’t you helped us?”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they ask because the one, single purpose of government, according to Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, is to keep us safe? As for that loser Kerry, he would probably have taken $71,000,000 from the New Orleans FEMA budjet in June just as Bush did, leaving the city at risk. As for the race card, I haven’t seen Bush hug so many black people in the past five days since the election last year. Don’t see any of those race-bating democrats sucking up to the blacks and taking advantage of the photo ops, huh?
I like that shut-up stuff you threw in. Sounds almost like Scott McClellan responding to Dick Gregory. I’m just wondering, with us both obviously being redneck republicans, what’s your take as to why the poor, living in down there below sea level as they were, didn’t get in their SUV’s and get out of town?
You got the wrong guy. Don’t think for one moment that I am here to support either the left or right side. Just cause you have an agenda to support doesn’t mean I do.
I came to this site to laugh at Dick…and stayed to laugh at the “idiots” (yes, i like the word because it not that bad-but voices my displeasure with them)who think it is so awesome to stand behind the scene and yell profanities….at anyone.
At Bush, Kerry…Kofi, Saddam, Al Sharpton, You name the leader.
Aprodite, #102, this is the first time you have responded to me and for that I am humbled–one conservative to another, eh? And, yeah, us rightwing rednecks like that pissy beer. I go for the 5% proof so I don’t piss the bed when I pass out at night. How about you? I know what you about those shitty schools, breeding shitty citizens, in a shitty world, with a shitty government.
But correct me if I’m wrong, but if a few tax cuts for the rich and corporate welfare was curtailed, do you think Bush could have fixed them by now? After all, five years ago, he wanted to be the education president, remember? And how about Dick Cheney getting told to get f***ed? I’m appaled, myself, that someone would stoop so low to get to his level. What’s your take, honey?
I was a bit encouraged to see the WH press corps particularly Terry Moran and David Gregory give McClellan a hard time. That squinty-eyed toady needs to be taken down a peg or two. At 150 thou a year, how can this job of lying to the camera every day be worth it? I guess it gets him into a few cocktail parties where he can network for his lobbying job after 2008.
If anyone bothered to actually listen to what Cheney was saying - he was talking about the difficulty of sorting out the federal govt paying for clearing of debris from private property. That was where he steered the question about cleanup. For him it was a matter of sorting out that the federal govt would not be paying for clearance of private land, unless of course it was privatized, then clearance could go ahead.
You have to listen for the code words people.
When they talk about the difficulties of using federal dollars, they’re not talking about spending those dollars on needy taxpayers, they’re talking about how best to syphon those dollars off to private corporations.
Also - McClellan needs to be brought up on charges of lying and malfeasance. This isn’t about being cute, or going to cocktail parties. McClellan is party to a conspiracy to defraud and destroy the federal government of the US.
I was distracted by the F U to Cheney and his reaction, that what he said didn’t stay with me. Thanks for the pointer - we shouldn’t be surprised because we know that money is is god. Money to his corporation or whose stock he holds is there for him. He’s laying the goundwork.
McClellan is such a dunce; Bush might sacrifice him if the heat is too much for Dubya.
Notice in this article about reconstruction money running out on water and power projects that the reason given is “Security costs have cut into the funds available to complete ”
The author of the article doesn’t bother to explain what security costs, but a reasonable guess would be that the building of military installations and prisons takes precedence over reconstructing water and power.
Nothing new there actually, since the Bush never had any intention of reconstruction - just syphoning money off to contractors.
I challenge the chickenhawks that troll around here to develop their own internet broadcast. I guarantee my ratings will triple your dribble.
You up to it chickenhawks? Are you afraid to speak into a microphone and reveal your stupidity? Come on, let us hear how stupid you sound, your typed words are only minimally hysterical, see if you can make us piss our pants.
The real hero of this CNN piece was Lynn Lofton, the resident of the neighborhood who had the temerity to give her name and speak to the absurdity of all the money and time being wasted on these administration photo ops. I’m raising my glass to you, Lynn. Your people can be the backbone of the renaissance of the Gulf States and maybe…just maybe the Karmic destiny of the deep south is to expiate the sins of slavery by leading America out of this fetid psychic swamp that is suffocating the entire country. I just saw the LA education leaders on CSpan discussing their needs and their role in stabilizing and rebuilding their communities. The Supt. of St. Bernard Parish schools is a woman, a tough woman, who had to struggle mightily to control herself as she began to choke up. Specfically, she lost it when she began to speak about this catastrophe providing the opportunity to address the persistent poverty and inequity in her community. As the Republicans attempt to reduce this to just another partisan squabble, the strong people, the heroes, are stepping forward and beginning their journey. They deserve our support - our serious and determined support.
On a more venal note, I’m thinking if this had been filmed in LA rather than MS, it could have been James Carville telling Cheney to go f**k himself. I’ve been wondering for a week how he can bear to look at that Republican harridan he married. Gotta be tough for the Ragin’ Cajun. When the shit hits the fan, we all try to go home. Wonder where his ‘home’ is now.
Lets try something. Take off the partisan blinkers, all of you. Forget about which team you support, or who stole an election or who stained a dress.
Now, imagine you’re looking at the United States as a somewhat disinterested observer, from say, Australia, or Canada, or New Zealand, or some other common law, multi-cameral democracy. What do you see?
An over-protected chief executive who spends a disproportionate amount of time pandering to his base, so much so that he cannot bring himself to man the breach during the hours of his country’s greatest need. A legislature lining the pockets of its major contributors by porking up bills. A politicized bureaucracy populated by sinecures, a rapidly ideologized judiciary.
The fact that all three of our branches of national government are occupied by the same party has everything to do with this. The framers notion of institutional checks and balances only works when these three branches are not in the same hands. So, before you take offense at a poster who may not share your party persuasion, think about your nationhood, and what that means. We are in deep, deep danger of losing our respect as people for the values of process, sacrificing these to the altar of “results”.
To win, whatever the cost, is to lose in the long run.
Now, put your blinkers back on, and see how your country looks.
I think that those who are placing the primary blame on the breakdown and failures on the officials of Louisiana should log on and take a look at the Dept. of Homeland Security’s website and review the charter and disaster plan process and procedures that is on record.
The local, state AND Federal disaster plans under the Homeland Security guidelines, for Louisiana in particular, collapsed! Leaving all levels sharing blame and responsibility for the failures and collapse and they all should be held accountable for their performance or lack of. That’s a fair and equitable opinion, wouldn’t you say?
Where I have a problem in all of this is trying to figure out what makes Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama differant from Florida. Florida was hit by several serious hurricanes last year and the disaster plan worked like a finely tuned watch! Local, state and Federal processes came together as they were planned to come together. And it was an election year!!!!!
It’s no longer an election year and, I believe in part, has a lot to do with the lack of urgency and response by the Fed’s. There’s also the matter of incompetency, broken and failed communication and processes, and the fact that this nation has never experienced a natural disaster of Katrina’s magnitude in it’s history.
No matter what the answer is for the failures in timely response prior to the hurricane making landfall, the real and most important and critical issue is that American’s for five (5) hot and humid days, thousands of Americans were left without food, water or aide!!!!! We all watched in horror and disbelief at thousands of our countries citizens waiting for help. The memories will be forever etched in my mind. This was not the America that I have known and loved from birth.
Since the first images of Katrina’s devastation and destruction were shown by the media, I have experienced every emotion conceivable. Anger, sadness, frustration and grief. My feelings come secondary to those of the affected victims. As it should.
Thank God for the continuing rescue and relief efforts. May God bless the volunteers one and all and all of the victims that are now being helped and assisted, comforted and aided.
I personally don’t care to play the ‘blame game’ or ‘point fingers’ because it serves no purpose other than to further divide the citizens of this great land. I do, however, want and expect answers as to ‘why’ it took so long to respond but most importantly, I want some for of assurance that nothing like this will ever happen again!
Very very gratifying. The respondant sounded resigned, like he had heard enough and wanted
no more sound bites by a bunch of goldbrickers.
He had a Southern charm embued in his heart
felt commentary.
Also, besides all the poor black folks who died
in NOLA, what happened to all the swamp dwelling
Cajuns? Word is they were swept out to the Gulf.
True, as I understand, Louisianna does not have compulsory education and has one of/if not the/
highest high school drop out rate in the country
at 50%.
Bottom Line: These people were told to get out, Some with a whole week of anticipation. They chose to stay. You can’t blame the Govt. every time you make a mistake. You choose to live below sea level at a delta, behind a levy, hello? Each and every hurricane warning I would be highering my insurance payoff and heading for high ground.
It’s about time someone told this SOB off. This is his first trip to the Gulf region because he wouldn’t cut his vacation short. My he and Bush rot in hell.
So everyone in California should go to Nevada everytime there’s a tremor? Cause we all know the big one is coming eventually.
And while we’re at it, lets just go ahead and get everyone out to the desert in anticipation of the dirty bomb/suitcase nuke etc…
Get real. Most of them had no money to travel with, cause it was end of month, and because FEMA f-ed the dog on evac protocol, many died, and the rest are now homeless…kids included, you fool.
Yeah. . . this is revolution alright, France 1892-style. It is time for an entire reconfiguration of all the nations and provinces which the US claimed as its own.
How can so many people agree with that type of comment? What is wrong with all of you. Are you all that mad because Cheney has made $25 million in one year and none of you will? Do you know what it takes to make that kind of money and then go into public office again? Well, you don’t do it for the gratification. You do it so that people like you don’t ever have control. You do it so that liberals will always have their right to complain. You do it because you can. Oh yea, I forgot, did all of you know that George W Bush is President and none of you are. When one of you runs for President, I’ll be impressed. Until then keep following. You are all very good at that.
#116
Susan, I just clicked on your web site and saw your picture and your husband’s — I remember having a few words with you at the Glen Ellyn vigil last month. I just didn’t know your name!
Sorry, I didn’t finish. SUV are not needed. Some took buses, some walked or got rides from friends. But if you think for one minute that the poor were stuck than you are foolish…because many of them did get out.
By the way…I am sure you have an angle on evrything, but wasn;t that his DAD in the photo’s hugging people? I didn’t see too many of GW
#139 KJ
That’s because it’s a simple two-word phrase that is not difficult to pronounce. Like “hard work”
“makin’ progress” see? “clearing brush” it sorta fits right in there.
I cannot believe how ignorant & blind you all are. So blinded by the hate you have for Bush & Cheney that everything — even a natural disaster followed by the blundering of the local & state officials — is their fault.
I’m no cheerleader for Bush, but the ridiculous attempts to attach blame to him & Cheney get you nowhere fast. Except earning the scorn of every thinking human being.
Hello all: New here, so i’ll make it semi-short and to the point.
Bush and Cheney are two major idiots when it comes to running a country…….and have the opposite of any major qualification needed. Leaders should be for the people at LARGE. They are for corporations/big business, plain and simple. Most politicians always have been, or have been forced into playing along to save face/reputation.
#133-Irrelevant banter. How typical of someone who either doesn’t know of what they speak, or is a full blown NeoCon. What bush/Cheney did before they were elected or how much they make/made isn’t relevant.
What’s relevant is the here and now, and now I CHOOSE to state that that man did what he felt was right……and in doing so showed how being a true american is done, by using his first amendment rights, no matter what he said or if anyone agrees with it.
#139-Again, typical Neocon banter. Either switch the subject to somehting completely or nearly 100% irrelevant to make yourselves and your leaders look good, or call names. Either works for you people it seems, or draws attention away from the real issues at hand long enough for you to come up with something else to say.
And if they all hadn’t used “potty mouthed” language, you probably would have brought up their spelling or family histories/job histories….right Neocon?
the key now is to get people out of there. I love how the press wants to focus more on the fact that the soldiers are ARMED, than on the are doing a very needed job…GET EVERYONE OUT
#144-Dr. Monroe’s “rant” was neither ridiculous, or seemed angry…..yet if you hadn’t said such, as a typical NeoCon, you wouldn’t have had much to say in the first place…..regardless of level of truth, and wording of your beliefs in a calm & collected manner.
You see, that’s what he did. He worded his beliefs, and you brought up something irrelevant, or mostly so…..mainly to draw attention away from the fact that you and most Neocons don’t know shit about what you speak about, unless it benefits you or yours in some way in the long run.
But that’s your right I guess. In america, you can say what you want. At least most of us non-NeoCons use it to prove and point and stick with it, instead of slandering other people with views other than our own to look good and save face, or switching the topic to draw our attention away from the truth: That you don’t know shit about what the hell you talk about, and are too darn afraid to admit it.
I loved it!!! That was a total classic move!!!!!! Whoever that person was that said that to Mr. DICK-HEAD deserves a medal!!! AWESOME!!! LOL!!!!! HA!!HA!!HA!!HA!!
Dick Cheney was greeted with warm explicatives when he visited the disaster region today. If you missed it, you might want to take a look at the CNN video found here on Think Progress. Yes, you heard the guy correctly;…
Interesting logic, in #143, which I missed while reading #144. #143, sid-Exactly how is putting blame on anyone for this disaster going to earn the “scorn” of every thinking being? Do you mean the NeoCons, or people like yourself?
I only ask because I believe someone(s) is/are to blame for the slow response. I don’t have an exact idea, as some do/think they do, but I do have a good idea from all I have read/seen.
FEMA screwed up, plain and simple. The administraion/legislation screwed up by cutting funding to FEMA and changing how it’s hierarchy is set up(It’s part of homeland security now.)
FEMA water trucks were at the city limits of N.O. after 2 days past the fact. They weren’t ALLOWED by their bosses/given the go ahead to give out the water until 3 days after that….yet press and such could go by unhindered. They didn’t even make a call for doctors/etc to be flown in until a few days ago……which even outraged a local N.O. doctor who has been swamped with patients since the storm died down.
A friend of a friend even said they tried to hand out supplies/food/blankets/etc to people on the highway shelter, but that National Guard troops wouldn’t let them past because they didn’t have the clearance to.
#126-Jenna Jamson, are you that much of a brainless idiot?
Jamson wrote - “REPUBLICANS ARE A BUNCH OF FAGGOTS.” Are you 12? A deep thinker? You should work for Cheney’s camp, you’d fit right in.
That’s rich…ya bigot…also throws a bad name to all respectable faggots out there…thank god I have a clear mind and can sleep at night…I voted Democrat. There’s no blood on my hands.
Nick says “Quick Dick have a laugh about the situation, and try and aim a funny quip towards the your heckler. Don’t give up your day job Dick, (whatever that is).”
That would be masturbating in front of Katrina coverage.
Wow, I haven’t heard anybody talking about revolution in the US for decades. Back in the 60s it was exciting. (Yes, I remember the 60s — I was 8 when JFK got it for rocking the boat.) Now it sounds kind of silly, considering that you couldn’t get a dozen people involved before you had been infiltrated by the CIA, NSA, or whatever alphabet soup the Bush Regime is currently using. Let’s see, they control the military, all branches of government, the media, and a huge espionage apparatus; oh, and they appear to control the voting process as well. Not that voting matters much, since the only other viable political party in this country is just as corrupt, self-serving, and incompetent. Neither group is going to do anything to inconvenience their power base — the ultra-rich and the mega-corporations.
I guess it isn’t obvious enough even when both of the primary candidates for the nation’s highest office are members of the same elite fraternity — Skull and Bones — for argumentative partisan morons to notice that it doesn’t matter which of those two parties is in office. The ultra-rich control a greater percentage of this nation’s wealth every year, year after year, regardless of which party is in the oval office. At the same time, there always seems to be something or things deemed more important than education, health care, and social security when it comes to allocating tax revenues. This is hardly surprising when the people allocating the taxes don’t depend on public education for their children, can afford the best private health care, and are guaranteed salary for life, even if they only serve one term.
The Great Generation — those who willingly put their lives on the line to protect their way of life during WWII — might have organized something approaching a revolution if the government had behaved then as the current regime does. But they are old or dead, and most US citizens now are too concerned with their comfort and illusion of security to risk it. How many hundreds, thousands — millions? — are going to be martyred (imprisoned, or killed in street fighting) before the US military realizes they are fighting against their countrymen in support of an elite oligarchy and switch sides? Nope. Not going to happen.
So forget revolution — it is impossible in this nation in this day and age. If you really want to make a difference, investigate the OTHER political parties, pick one that most closely agrees with your principles, and support it. Donate, volunteer, vote (just in case voting still matters). At the very least, it will make our masters show their true colors — they will either rig the voting system so obviously that even the head-wedged right-wingers and religious fundamentalists can’t deny it; or maybe they will just give up and make voting illegal. Either way, THAT might piss people off enough to actually do something about their vanishing freedom. Yes, it’s a slim hope. But if someone has a better idea of how to get the machinery of government away from the ultra-rich and mega-corporations, and get it back into the hands of the American people, I would love to hear it.
“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.”

you are either A: a 13 year old boy trying to make a flame war to feel better about all the whippings with jackets you get at school and to trt a fake pre-hacker rep on for size
or B: you are the biggest f-ing lemming ever……trying so hard to deep throat your party and affiliation that surely goes back to mommy and daddy and grandpa ……give me a break….think for yourself if you can……..you sound like you think your anonymous coward internet impotent presence is some sort of bull dog for people you will never meet, never be like, and who make more money then you will ever make….unless you nailed that big douche trust fund from grandpa’s passing…………..it is not about party and all that bs……it is about dignity, tragedy, death, inhumanity, bungling, and above all SUFFERING….
grow up……you sound like a boy or a massive fool…or both
First of all….buy the man a drink…he voiced the sentiments of many in our country.
Secondly, If as Chenney said, he hasn’t heard that before I suggest he get out more, among real people, not the hand picked crowds he’s used to…
Thirdly, if he’d like to hear it again, call me, or better yet, post his private number on the web….
Ahh, to have such presence of mind. I would’ve just said “F*** you, Cheney, you heartless piece of mung. Go back to the bat cave and count your doubloons.”
I suppose the stress really brought out the clever in ’sissippi.
I wish I knew who that guy was so I could send him a check! I don’t have that type of calm in me; Secret Service would have had me on the ground as they wiped my spit out of Dickie’s mouth (and I’m sure they have lots of experience wiping up his various mouth dribbles)!

If want to kiss him that bad I’m sure you could probably ask.
It’s very funny how the majority of you have nothing but insults for the VP but none of you have solutions. How many of you gave to the relief effort? How many of you Michael Moore wannabe’s have offered your home to a survivor? How many of you have gotten off your ass and done something worth while instead of sitting here and “blogging”? True I could be accused of the same thing but I was given this link from a democratic friend who like s to give me the occassional poke in the ribs. Do the majority of you have nothing but hate and cotempt in your hearts? This is not about a VP this is a national tragedy that cold have been prevented. Prevented at a STATE level and not a FEDERAL level. The state (which oddly enough has been run by dems for the past 60 years) couldv’e prevented this but they sat on thier asses and waited for the federal government to bail them out. Those of you who are citing the Iraq war as a cause for the lack of troops are sorely mislead. Each state in the reagion had an average of 65% of it’s national guard troops IN THE STATE and not in Iraq. Whos responsible for the National Guard? The state not the feds. Bush had in fact called Kathleen Babineaux Blanco days in advance to tell
That is the coolest video I have downloaded in a long time. Go little people.
Hey trolls, does that sound like the people in New Orleans aren’t complaining.
September 8th, 2005 at 1:09 pmIt’s gratifying to see Cheney get a taste of his own medicine. Does anybody know who he might have been referring to by “John, er. . . ?”
September 8th, 2005 at 1:10 pmYou know he was going to take a shot at John Kerry. You know, the guy who isn’t president during this catastrophie.
September 8th, 2005 at 1:12 pmmy god that was gratifying
loud and clear on national (cable) TV!
woo hoo give that guy a Medal of Freedom!
September 8th, 2005 at 1:13 pmWhat happened????????????
September 8th, 2005 at 1:15 pmMy link not working!
Actually, it sounded to me like he got the name wrong– he couldn’t remember it— he was probably trying to remember who he cursed at initially.
September 8th, 2005 at 1:18 pmThat was so, so, so gosh darned disrespectful.
Never mind, cheney him! Dick that is.
September 8th, 2005 at 1:25 pmDoes anybody know who he might have been referring to by “John, er. . . ?â€
Actually, I think he meant to say “Pat Leahy” because he said “John, or … er …” Joking, of course, of the time he debased the floor of the Senate …
That was the best video download in a long time …
September 8th, 2005 at 1:25 pm#4. I second that. f** awesome!! A dose of his own medicine!!

September 8th, 2005 at 1:51 pmCould not have happened to a more deserving person. I started to say “man”, but I dont think real men have all that much to do with farm animals.
Wonder who shouted that out? Hopefully a disgruntled republican.
September 8th, 2005 at 1:58 pmWhy didn’t Secret Service pre-screen this guy..!! I thought only certified wingnuts were allowed within 100 feet of the VP…
September 8th, 2005 at 1:59 pmIt is obvious to me that the Feds care more about their little war than they do about us in this country.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:00 pmThose old boys ought to just beat the crap out of Cheney. Then he can go back to Chimpus and let him know how well things are going in NOLA.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:04 pmIt probably gave him a hard on. So watch out America, he’s going to want to f**k us again.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:04 pm“It is obvious to me that the Feds care more about their little war than they do about us in this country.”
Very true. Although I’d expect the oil pipelines in Lousiana will be fixed PDQ.

September 8th, 2005 at 2:18 pmHe muttered the word John by mistake, he was probably thinking of Jeff, Jeff Gannon, who gives it to him on a regular basis in exchange for CIA leaks.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:19 pmI think he was trying to make a joke saying it was a “friend of John’s”, the guy standing next to him, but I think he may have got the name wrong or realized the best thing to do was just keep going.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:21 pmBy “John, urr..” he meant John’s wife, Mrs Kerry.. who swore, remember? Loved the fact that guy was ABLE (meaning unrestrained) to say it and get away.. Now that N.O. is dispersed, and should probably be still at election time, does anybody think all their non-Republican votes will be thinned out? I wonder how long N.O. when it gets itself back into the city will vote Democrat? lol

September 8th, 2005 at 2:26 pmBRAV_FU*IN-O!
September 8th, 2005 at 2:27 pmNice to see that Dick Cheney can still see the funny side, of this appalling situation.
Fill in your own punch-line.

September 8th, 2005 at 2:33 pmMeran,
They will all vote Democrat. They hate the republicans now.
But, I don’t know why I bother, you probably think that Bushco did a great job handling the situation in LA, MS and AL and you probably think that nobody from New Orleans is complaining.
Enough troll food for me today.
September 8th, 2005 at 2:33 pmBy now I suspect that the guy who yelled that out is on his way to Gitmo without a Get Out Of Jail pass.

Unfortunately, its who counts the votes…that decides the outcome…unless an error is made…then the Supreme Court dictates the winner.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:19 pmI wonder how Bill O’Reilly will spin this one… I mean, oh wait, he’s in the “No Spin Zone”… So will it be more “oh by the way, you can’t depend on government to help you in your time of need” tonight? Why are we paying taxes at all again when this is what comes of it?
September 8th, 2005 at 3:19 pmspudge boy is a whiner
September 8th, 2005 at 3:25 pmI think Fox News is probably thinking of a way to spin this so that the protestor is to blame he should not be allowed to use the same language as the VP.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:28 pmA wise man once said: “Dick Cheney before he dicks you.”
September 8th, 2005 at 3:32 pm…and ol VP ..IS…doing a great job of F…ing himself!
September 8th, 2005 at 3:33 pmI thought that was funny and if I think it’s funny that means it makes the Filthy Left look stupid.
You betcha.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:33 pmI think the hurricane refugees are in their last throes.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:35 pm“I think the hurricane refugees are in their last throes.”
September 8th, 2005 at 3:41 pmIs there a transcript available? I’m having trouble with the video and I want every single word.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:46 pmI only wish the FU could have come from my mouth.
September 8th, 2005 at 3:49 pmAgitprop: Please don’t use the term refugees any longer.

September 8th, 2005 at 4:09 pm[…] For some reason, I don’t think this will see much mention on the news tonight: Cheney gets told to go fuck himself by (presumably) a Katrina survivor. If nothing else it’s heartening to see the administration’s ability to suppress dissent starting to slip — a year ago no-one would have gotten within a hundred yards of Dick without being thoroughly vetted for pro-administration views. September 8th, 2005 at 4:16 pmInstructions to Cheney:
September 8th, 2005 at 4:19 pmPut head between your legs as far as you can, then reach up and kiss your ass good bye, because being cursed with an F-U is the only the beginning of what’s ahead of you in the future.
I have been waiting for too damned long for somebody to do this. Too funny, and it couldn’t have happened to a bigger Dick.
September 8th, 2005 at 4:22 pmPeople take refuge in a storm, but that does not make them refugees.
September 8th, 2005 at 4:24 pmPlease explain to this ignorant troll why there are so many poor people in NOLA - and why the school system is soooo shitty, and why (until recently!) the cops were so corrupt and deadly. September 8th, 2005 at 5:41 pmWhy do poor people live in NO? Why are their schools poor?
The answer is far more complicated than can be explained here.
They are criticized for living in the wrong place? Where the hell do you live?
They work in service for the casinos, oil companies and other elites who operate business there and they get paid minimum wage.
Their schools are poor because they are in the poor neighborhoods = little tax revenue (sort of like getting blood from a turnip).
He deserved that for all the Vietnamese children he ate during the cold war!

September 8th, 2005 at 6:00 pm[…] Think Progress » Cheney Runs Into Trouble With the Locals […]
September 8th, 2005 at 6:14 pm[…] Hah, AP picked up the “go fuck yourself” to Cheney (video here and here): Vice President Dick Cheney was confronted by an irate heckler when he toured the US Gulf coast region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. […]

By the way, catch those news items about oil companies memos talking about how their refineries were producing more than they could sell so they wanted to slow things down to keep the price up.
People were shot for actions like those during WWII

September 8th, 2005 at 6:38 pmThe guy in the white shirt is a muscle relaxer.
September 8th, 2005 at 6:44 pmOr maybe he has his hand up CHeney’s ass, and is making Cheney’s mouth move
September 8th, 2005 at 6:44 pmRemember how Richard Nixon was forced to resign?
September 8th, 2005 at 7:05 pmDude in the white shirt is putting his body between Dick and the potential sniper nest on the next door roof.
September 8th, 2005 at 7:07 pm“Ok, so now I’m going to hand this over to Mr Erik Estrada who is going to tell us how he handled disasters like this when he was on ‘C.H.I.P’s”

September 8th, 2005 at 7:19 pm[…] Spoken to in a language he understands. Is this how New Orleans really feels? […]
September 8th, 2005 at 7:34 pmMighty aphrodite, #67, glad you challenged the ignorant lefties here to try and educate you on Bush and Cheney.
September 8th, 2005 at 7:36 pmTwo things:
1) Pretty mildly voiced statement. Sounds NOT like a protester, who would have shouted it, but like someone who was there for a reason, who didn’t like the BS job Cheney was handing down from his perch in the Asshole of The Universe.
2) Pretty sure ‘Jonn…’ was a dig at Kerry, not that he couldn’t remember Leahy’s first name. Cheney hates Kerry, because Kerry won the election, and Cheney knows it.
September 8th, 2005 at 7:36 pmi’m e-mailing this little ditty to everyone I know.
September 8th, 2005 at 8:02 pmBy the way winamp and other players work fine reproducing the video. just a thought in case you don’t want to support the worlds other great scum at microsoft.
The people no longer vote for their leaders. In my state, they recently approved the purchase of these crooked voting machines. But, this state is psycho-republican anyway.
September 8th, 2005 at 8:08 pmWho’s the goon on Cheney’s right…he’s all “incensed” at the profanity - what a tool!
September 8th, 2005 at 8:28 pmI love how quickly people like you go to the race card…the most affected were the POOR…all poor black and white.

September 8th, 2005 at 8:41 pmYou are right. Revolution is coming. And your repug bosses are going down
John ….is Jon….as in stewart. My opinion.
September 8th, 2005 at 8:43 pmCMW,
What is a repug bosses, how are they “mine”, and how are they going down?
You should write this stuff down and read it before you hit SEND
September 8th, 2005 at 8:46 pmEveryone here understands what CMW said, if you don’t oh well.
September 8th, 2005 at 8:50 pmwhat are you doing reading the 99th comment?
September 8th, 2005 at 8:50 pmahh…Spudge Boy. First off, nice moniker.
I have been reading some of your “jewels”…
I wonder how well you do in public forums, openly discussing issues as opposed to your brilliant quotes and amusing put-downs on this page.
You sound like the type who hides behind the camera and yells profanities at anyone you don’t agree with.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:02 pmJoe, I can see why you’re content with a Sixpack - and probably crappy pissy beer at that. Shitty schools sometimes breed pooooooor citizens. I know you enjoy living vicariously thru others, Joe, so give Cheney a big FU yourself.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:02 pmRay, #95, my man!
September 8th, 2005 at 9:05 pmAny chance that might have been Scalia heckling Dick? You have to figue he’s pretty bent about being passed over for the cheif justice job.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:06 pmJoe,
You got the wrong guy.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:15 pmAprodite, #102, this is the first time you have responded to me and for that I am humbled–one conservative to another, eh?
September 8th, 2005 at 9:18 pmAhhhhhhh!!!!! I just ripped my sack open on some barbed wire………. jumping on and off this GD damn fence!!!
September 8th, 2005 at 9:21 pm#99, What is it about CMW that you don’t understand?
September 8th, 2005 at 9:25 pmIf things are a little hot in here for you, you can always go outside.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:30 pm#87, That IS Erik Estrada next to Cheney . Thaaats why they call that lake… Lake Ponchandjon.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:39 pmIf anyone bothered to actually listen to what Cheney was saying - he was talking about the difficulty of sorting out the federal govt paying for clearing of debris from private property.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:40 pmI was distracted by the F U to Cheney and his reaction, that what he said didn’t stay with me. Thanks for the pointer - we shouldn’t be surprised because we know that money is is god. Money to his corporation or whose stock he holds is there for him. He’s laying the goundwork.
September 8th, 2005 at 9:46 pmMcClellan is such a dunce; Bush might sacrifice him if the heat is too much for Dubya.

September 8th, 2005 at 10:07 pmThe real hero of this CNN piece was Lynn Lofton, the resident of the neighborhood who had the temerity to give her name and speak to the absurdity of all the money and time being wasted on these administration photo ops.
September 8th, 2005 at 10:17 pmLets try something.
Thanks for reading…
September 8th, 2005 at 10:21 pmI think that those who are placing the primary blame on the breakdown and failures on the officials of Louisiana should log on and take a look at the Dept. of Homeland Security’s website and review the charter and disaster plan process and procedures that is on record.
God Bless America!!!!!
September 8th, 2005 at 10:22 pmVery very gratifying. The respondant sounded resigned, like he had heard enough and wanted
no more sound bites by a bunch of goldbrickers.
He had a Southern charm embued in his heart
felt commentary.
Also, besides all the poor black folks who died

True, as I understand, Louisianna does not have compulsory education and has one of/if not the/

September 8th, 2005 at 10:27 pmREPUBLICANS ARE A BUNCH OF FAGGOTS. I can’t believe what they r doing. they arent even helping.
September 8th, 2005 at 11:10 pmBottom Line: These people were told to get out, Some with a whole week of anticipation. They chose to stay. You can’t blame the Govt. every time you make a mistake. You choose to live below sea level at a delta, behind a levy, hello? Each and every hurricane warning I would be highering my insurance payoff and heading for high ground.
September 8th, 2005 at 11:13 pmIt’s about time someone told this SOB off. This is his first trip to the Gulf region because he wouldn’t cut his vacation short. My he and Bush rot in hell.
September 8th, 2005 at 11:18 pm#127 - Miguel:
So everyone in California should go to Nevada everytime there’s a tremor? Cause we all know the big one is coming eventually.
And while we’re at it, lets just go ahead and get everyone out to the desert in anticipation of the dirty bomb/suitcase nuke etc…
Get real. Most of them had no money to travel with, cause it was end of month, and because FEMA f-ed the dog on evac protocol, many died, and the rest are now homeless…kids included, you fool.
September 8th, 2005 at 11:31 pmYeah. . . this is revolution alright, France 1892-style. It is time for an entire reconfiguration of all the nations and provinces which the US claimed as its own.

September 8th, 2005 at 11:41 pmHow can so many people agree with that type of comment? What is wrong with all of you. Are you all that mad because Cheney has made $25 million in one year and none of you will? Do you know what it takes to make that kind of money and then go into public office again? Well, you don’t do it for the gratification. You do it so that people like you don’t ever have control. You do it so that liberals will always have their right to complain. You do it because you can. Oh yea, I forgot, did all of you know that George W Bush is President and none of you are. When one of you runs for President, I’ll be impressed. Until then keep following. You are all very good at that.

September 9th, 2005 at 12:57 amThat’s because it’s a simple two-word phrase that is not difficult to pronounce. Like “hard work”
“makin’ progress” see? “clearing brush” it sorta fits right in there.
kj,
Your family must be very proud of you
September 9th, 2005 at 12:58 amI cannot believe how ignorant & blind you all are.
September 9th, 2005 at 12:59 amDoctor Monroe,
you sart of with a statement about “non-partison”, and then you go on a rant that is ridiculous…why? What about your agenda has you so angry?
Do you really think thats helps, or do you just want to be heard?
September 9th, 2005 at 1:04 amHello all: New here, so i’ll make it semi-short and to the point.
Exactly.
September 9th, 2005 at 1:04 amwell said sid…thanks
the key now is to get people out of there. I love how the press wants to focus more on the fact that the soldiers are ARMED, than on the are doing a very needed job…GET EVERYONE OUT
September 9th, 2005 at 1:06 am#144-Dr.
September 9th, 2005 at 1:11 amI loved it!!! That was a total classic move!!!!!! Whoever that person was that said that to Mr. DICK-HEAD deserves a medal!!! AWESOME!!! LOL!!!!! HA!!HA!!HA!!HA!!
September 9th, 2005 at 1:17 amCheney Does Not Receive a Warm Welcome
Dick Cheney was greeted with warm explicatives when he visited the disaster region today. If you missed it, you might want to take a look at the CNN video found here on Think Progress. Yes, you heard the guy correctly;…
September 9th, 2005 at 1:17 amInteresting logic, in #143, which I missed while reading #144.
September 9th, 2005 at 1:19 am#126-Jenna Jamson, are you that much of a brainless idiot?
Jamson wrote - “REPUBLICANS ARE A BUNCH OF FAGGOTS.” Are you 12? A deep thinker? You should work for Cheney’s camp, you’d fit right in.
That’s rich…ya bigot…also throws a bad name to all respectable faggots out there…thank god I have a clear mind and can sleep at night…I voted Democrat. There’s no blood on my hands.
September 9th, 2005 at 2:03 amPhillip, you rock. “I hope he steps on a water mocassin.” Too funny.
September 9th, 2005 at 2:09 amNick says “Quick Dick have a laugh about the situation, and try and aim a funny quip towards the your heckler. Don’t give up your day job Dick, (whatever that is).”
That would be masturbating in front of Katrina coverage.
September 9th, 2005 at 2:19 amWow, I haven’t heard anybody talking about revolution in the US for decades.
– President Dwight Eisenhower, April 16, 1953
Hell, read the whole speech, it’s a good one:

Ah, Ike, how I wish we had someone who truly felt that way in charge now. I’d follow a woman or man like that.

September 9th, 2005 at 2:52 amSecondly, If as Chenney said, he hasn’t heard that before I suggest he get out more, among real people, not the hand picked crowds he’s used to…
Thirdly, if he’d like to hear it again, call me, or better yet, post his private number on the web….
Ahh, to have such presence of mind. I would’ve just said “F*** you, Cheney, you heartless piece of mung. Go back to the bat cave and count your doubloons.”
I suppose the stress really brought out the clever in ’sissippi.

September 9th, 2005 at 8:11 amDo you think anything happened to that guy afterwards? Is he walking by, or being dragged off?
September 9th, 2005 at 8:28 amI wish I knew who that guy was so I could send him a check! I don’t have that type of calm in me; Secret Service would have had me on the ground as they wiped my spit out of Dickie’s mouth (and I’m sure they have lots of experience wiping up his various mouth dribbles)!

If want to kiss him that bad I’m sure you could probably ask.
September 9th, 2005 at 9:18 amIt’s very funny how the majority of you have nothing but insults for the VP but none of you have solutions.
