I feel so much better now.

Brown to investigation: It was Mother Nature’s fault!!

  3. Mary Poppin says:

This is a joke that FEMA is going to investigate themself. You know there will be know one fired.

  4. Platypus says:

Isn’t that basically paying them for screwing up?

  5. Dumb Fox says:

The leadership of George Wa*ker Bush:

6-Sept – announces his own investigation into Katrina screw ups.

7-Sept – GOP announces investigation into Katrina screw-ups.

7-Sept – FEMA announces investigation into Katrina screw-ups.

What’s up then? Do neither the GOP nor FEMA expect Bush’s investigation to be any good? Of course not, it’s just CYA time in Bushworld.

Here is the important point though – and it’s not simply that none of these investigations are independent. Let’s say for example local La officers carry a lot of responsibility for all the screw-ups – if a GOP-sponsored investigation reports this, you actually undermine the credibility of the criticism that should be directed at the NOLA people.

Put bluntly, each of these investigations is destined to worsen partisan divisions. And once again, it is the jerks in the White House who are behind this. It’s the way they work, and it’s again obvious that they want to use Katrina to divide the country more.

Also, now’s the time for our “small government” bozo-trolls to speak up. Three investigations, all at the tax payers’ expense, all pretty much looking at the same failures. Small government? Yet another big lie.

  6. Zappatero says:

Lemme guess: Kathleen Blanco didn’t use the correct form when asking for help.

  7. Common Sense says:

Here is a thought: If you want to blame someone for the disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath in New Orleans, here is a list:

    1. Blame all the mayors of New Orleans for the past 40 years because the city was not prepared to deal with this hurricane.

    2. Blame all Louisana governors for not leading this state to better hurricane preparedness.

    3. Blame decades of state legislators for being more concerned with lining their own pockets rather than doing what’s right for this state.

    4. Blame all the past U.S. Senators of this state for not fighting to strengthen the levees of New Orleans. And blame the congressmen too.

    5. Then blame all the presidents for the past 40 years. For those of you who hate President Bush and Republicans so much that you automatically blame them, remember: Most of Louisana’s and New Orlean’s leaders have been Democrats.

This tragedy isn’t about one party or one president. Stop being Monday-morning quarterbacks. It’s easy to second guess after the fact but very hard to make decisions during. Stop trying to assign blame and focus on what you can do to help.

Donate to the Red Cross and other agencies. Donate blood (I would but I just donated three weeks ago). Designate your donations to Hurricane Katrina relief.

Just saw Judd Legum on TV (on Democracy Now) talking about Mike Brown’s liposuction experience! Well spoken, but he looked like he could use some coffee…

  9. Judd says:

    Thanks Darth. (Getting coffee now…)

  10. Peace Lover says:

#8 I guess it was only common sense that Bush cut back on the funding for levee work at least 3 times in his terms as president.

  11. Joe Sixpack says:

Good going, Common Sense. I’m with you on your take at #8. I like the way you slipped your entire message about being bipartisian and quit blaming “one party or one president.” Then in the next breath you slipped in the shot about “Louisiana’s and New Orleans’s leaders all being democratic.” You sly fox, I also like the way you didn’t bother to mention that the Bush Administration cut 71 Million dollars from the New Orleans FEMA budget in June of this year, forcing the city to shelve a new plan that would have delt with a cat. 5 hurricane.

But tell me if I’m wrong, but are you suggesting that the Mayor of NO should have called out his nonexistant fleet of helicopters to rescue people from rooftops or should he have forced the school bus drivers stop their own desperate attempts at trying to save the lives of their own families? And the governor: if she didn’t have a huge portion of the 11,000 members of LA National Guard in Iraq she might have had their resources. I mean, I’m on your side, but just whose authority is it to mobilize the resources of the US military?

I will suggest, however, that I don’t think all those victims are in danger of bleeding to death. Perhaps a couple of bucks to the Salvation Army, who were the first on the scene, would help better.

  12. Baltimore Boy says:

The point about blood drives is not that there is an immense need for blood products — although there are severely injured people who DO need medical care.

By Red Cross estimates, there are 2 million regular donors who are not capable of donating for the foreseeable future. Throw in that summertime is when blood stocks are at their lowest (a major part of drives are run by schools), and there is a significant crunch in the near future that can be alleviated by donating now.

It’s called implementing a plan to pre-empt an emergency — something that FEMA and the Bushies decided didn’t need to be paid for. That’s what happens when they decide that you’re not electorally important enough to tend to.

  13. wisedup says:

#9..I watched that too..finally some truth in the news.
Bush ‘orders’ all media out of NO. The first amendment is trashed. Add this to the list of charges against him. Murder 1, for starters.

  14. Ohioan says:

“An investigation of the Republican administration by a Republican-controlled Congress is like having a pitcher call his own balls and strikes.” – Harry Reid (D-NV)

Normally he would be wrong in saying that, because Congress represents the people and that should be the best place to start investigations… however things aren’t normal, and Republicans have been unbelievably partisan in recent hearings, that Reid is absolutely right to say this

    2 examples:
Abu Ghraib – Senate Armed Services Cmte. – held NO ONE accountable
WMD – Senate Intelligence Cmte. – Held CIA accountable but put phase II on indefinite hold

Now I trust Susan Collins more than Joe Lieberman, but overall I will trust only a 9/11 commission style panel.

  15. Common Sense says:

    #12
Where in my message did you read I was being bi-partison? I am just stating the facts as they will come out with the upcoming investigations. The poll data released yesterday showed that only 13% believe that Bush is responsible. Guess what, your message is not getting through to the American public and that has got to be making you furious. Stop the hate. Start helping.

  16. Zwack says:

#16, But some poll data released yesterday showed that…

    1) Bush is at an all time low approval rating

    2) CBS are stating that 38% approve of how Bush handled Katrina, while 58% disapprove.

    3) Zogby state that 27% of the population believe that Bush is MOST responsible.

Check This Post in a different thread for links to these polls.

Now, as Children have it… I’ve shown you mine, you show me yours. You cite “yesterday’s polls” stating that only “13% believe that Bush is responsible” I’ve shown you differing figures, complete with a source.

Do you have a source for your claims or is it just so much gas?

    Z.

  17. Zwack says:

#17, should read… “some poll data released today”

    Z.

  18. Joe Sixpack says:

My point exactly, #16, as I know you weren’t being bi-partison and no one could accuse you of that. I’m with you on getting another investigation going, as we’re good at that all right: thank God Bush is going to handle it, setting it up I mean. You know, with a Republican House and Senate heading up any committees and investigations. Of course Bush couldn’t have been responsible, I certainly agree with you on that. After all, he was eating cake in Arizona when people were drowning in New Orleans.

But correct me if I’m wrong, but I have to disagree with you on one thing, anyway. His polls really stink, according to Gallup (40% favorable) and Rassmussen (45%) this week. Of course, I’m sure those polls will change when the truth comes out on who’s REALLY to blame here for this disaster. What’s your take on why George wants to hide the bodybags coming out of there? I think its because the dirty democrats would make an issue out of them, myself, instead of Junior’s compassion in wanting to show a little respect for the dead, myself.

  19. Zookeeper says:

Brownie will do a heckuva job at this, too.

  20. cynical ex-hippie says:

That’s right Common Sense. Right now Democrats are deserting in droves, now that we all see Bush is really the right man to protect us from danger. That was his campaign promise, right?

  21. G man says:

Damn Bush. He is evil evil man who hates all black foke and is league with bad people and hates southern places like new orleans and Texas (opps) not texas. No one is to blame but Bush and all republican. No, dont blame the govenor of Louisana or the mayor (even though they had a compound of school busses parked and could of been used to take people, yes even poor people, to safty.) No, we must blame bush. He did not come with his big super man cape on and save the day and suction out new orleans right away with his big super straw he hides under his matress at night. Yes do not blame Democrats who have used this disaster to sit on there box and campaign for the next election. (I loved Hilary Clinton Campaign ad, I mean responce to the disaster.)

Bush may not have handled this situation like a great President would but niether DID ANYBODY ELSE. If someone, anyone, handled this situation (Democrats, Republicans, Mayors, Congressman so on) as they should we would not have the problems we are faced with. This country has not seen a hurricane catagory 5 and probably has not seen this much devastation since the civil war Period. (I could be wrong but I was thinking about something affecting this many states at once, maybe you could count the depression).

I am really upset about the people affected and I am getting sick of the media and pointing fingers that is going on.

  22. The Renegade of Junk says:

In light of recent reports that government funds earmarked for reconstruction of areas devastated by hurricane Katrina were being awarded via no-bid contracts to Halliburton, the federal government today hired consultants to investigate these allegat…
