Cheney Calls Katrina an “Exercise.”

Vice President Dick Cheney, 9/10/05: “I think we are in fact on our way to getting on top of the whole Katrina exercise” (via Sploid)

  1. Marie says:

    EXERCISE?
What in blazes is wrong with these people? This wasn’t some kind of mock disaster — this was a real life massive screw up by those in charge. People died! The people at the top were detached — apparently they still are. I want to detach them – from my government!

  2. mark says:

For Cheney, anything that reflects badly on the administration must be imaginary.

  3. Arthur Poorman says:

The situation is very sad. Mr. Bush is ignorant and simply does not known nor understand. Mr. Cheney on the other hand appears to be evil in itself, want a terrible mass the conservative voters have gotten us into, good intentions of course but now we all must suffer for what conservatives ham done.

  4. WaltTheMan says:

The disaster is in its last throes.

  5. Amazed says:

Yes, an “exercise” in showing just how much contempt the Bush administration has for America.

  6. GP says:

“Exercise” is mil-speak, but it shouldn’t apply to real-life maneuvers. For Cheney, it seems that dealing with the aftermath of Katrina was comparable to a weekend training mission. At least he sees it as a potential source of education about handling disasters. Remember, we’ve (probably) got three more years with this team, so we better start praying that they can learn *something* from their worst mistakes.

  7. 1TLRMS says:

I think they ruptured a disk lifting too much on this exercise… possible hernia too.

  8. Ron says:

An exercise in shipping people away from their homes, dropping them of at ‘camps’ and hiring security firms like Blackwater to patrol the streets instead of the New Orleans Police Department. NGO’s like the Red Cross are turned away by FEMA.

It is only a matter of time before those security forces will be attacked in New Orleans to be burned and beaten by enraged displaced citizens of New Orleans. It happened in Iraq and it can happen in Louisiana.

Louisiana, they’re trying to wash you away.

  9. Rotwang says:

The mistake is to assume this was merely a callous slip of the tongue.

Au contraire. Cheney knows that the Katrina response is just a dress rehearsal for managing future large-scale social “disruptions.” In that context, “exercise” is perfectly apropos.

Makes you shudder to imagine the kinds of language he must be comfortable using in private conversations. Does he laugh about “terraforming” the Middle East? Does the phrase “demographic homogenization” arise casually in his discussions about the rebuilding of New Orleans?

  10. The Antagonist says:

Remove the word ‘Katrina’ from Cheney’s statement and, suddenly, the world makes a lot more sense.

  11. Marie says:

Rotwang, your words should be the alert for everyone to heed. He does not speak casually — he carefully chooses his words and we should pay close attention.

  12. WaltTheMan says:

Cheney couldn’t fart into the atmoaphere – his head is in the way.

  13. WaltTheMan says:

Cheney couldn’t fart into the atmosphere – his head is in the way.

  14. John the Elder says:

Both Cheney and his boss are brain dead, numb nuts.
They are beyond hope, and maybe even beyond redemption. The last we will leave to the good Lord.
They have got to be gone from the government and fast.
That is America’s only hope. I hope 2006 will spell the end of the Republican dominence once and for all.
The Democrats may leave much to be desired. But none of the mess that has occurred in the last five years would have happened on a Democratic watch. Nice going Neocons you have screwed up your chance, now get yourselves and the dummies you inflicted on the rest of us gone. You all deserve to lose everything so you can know the suffering and pain you have brought to others.

  15. wisedup says:

    Actions speak louder than words?

    Actions: 0
words: -10 just watch him fall and whine about it.

Not just interesting, but shocking. I saw the item via BuzzFlash.com in the AM. The full impact has yet to make the MSM.

  17. Sharon Cox says:

When I read this coment by Cheney I got a chill. I hear lot’s of conspirecy junk from time to time and dismiss it, however I read somewhere a couple of week’s ago that our Government had been doing exercises to simulate just prior to 9/11 the events similare to what actualy happened on 9/11 and who ever it was that wrote the article said that’s why Bush looked so stupid in the class room. He thought their plans were for a diffrent day. Some day I guess all the truth of everything will come out. These people didn’t cause the hurricane but the stall tactics and lack of early help were planed I am sure. After all Cheney needed to have time to get his bunch at Hallaburton in on the no bid to rebuild, right.? Now since it appears bushes numbers have fallen to below 35% depending on who you listen to, and 59% of the population think he is doing a lousy job he’s going to hoof it all over for hug’s and photo op’s. Chaney as well is flapping his jaw. I’de like to think while they are busy doing what they should of done all along maybe our country isn’t getting screwed so badly, but sad to say think their other nut cases are behind the scenes getting everything away from the American public. Still working hard on Impeach now, No more bush war and bring the troops home now..Blessings

  18. Stephanie says:

An EXERCISE? Like it’s practice for the REAL thing or something? Yes, lets make these people even lower than they already are. They’ve lost everything and now the disaster they are victims of is just an “exercise” in they eyes of our government leaders? Just great. . .

  19. Nancy L. says:

If this is a practice session for the real thing, we’re in deep sh*t. You’re right about Chaney, he’s arrogant, a SOB, but he’s sly, like a fox. “He’s the man behind the curtain, Dorothy. Don’t pay any attention to him”. GW is stupid, sucks up all the attention and limelight, really thinks people like him, but he doesn’t have a clue. Chaney’s the brain.
During the Republican covention, a reporter asked someone (can’t remember who) from the White House about Chaney running for President some day. The response was, Chaney doesn’t like the limelight, he prefers working in the background. Better an enemy you can see, than one you can’t.
Face it, we’re nothing to them, except a means to an end. Serfdom comes to mind.

  20. Scott says:

If this had been an actual emergency (like, if Halliburton had been threatened), we might have actually DONE something.

  21. Ryan Neat says:

They’re now using the excuse that no one told bush of the katrina failures until thursday, but ironically this ‘excuse’ just makes him look even more stupid and disconnected from reality than before!

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9287434/site/newsweek

No wonder his approval rating is down to 38%. He’s a dottering old dote at this point, who’s so weak and feable minded that he can’t handle any dissent in his life! He reminds me of the trolls who come here that can’t live in a world of dissent and are so desperate to ‘crush’ it they have to come to a site they aren’t welcomed to stop the voices that speak truth and opposition to them.

  22. Marie says:

Holy cow! That is startling. Will the MSM pick it up. Will anyone in the EPA be able to investigate? Will the BushCo ever tell the truth? Can we ever believe what they say – recall they never admitted the contamination around the WTC after 9/11.

  23. Nancy L. says:

Just read the article on the toxic waters in NOLA. If the EPA is full of political hacks of this admin. forget it, it’ll be another cover-up. No wonder so many people who left, don’t want to go back. They’re pumping so much of it back into the Lake, which will get into the ground water and spread, into wells and other springs of water. Within a matter of a couple of years, there won’t be any water in those southern areas fit to drink or use. It’ll be all toxic.

  24. WaltTheMan says:

#21 – I’m getting an idea for a terrific movie, cast:
    Scare crow, W
    Cowardly lying, Pricky boy
Tin Man, who else but Karl?
Wicked Witch of the four winds, Sleezy Lice
    Lynchkins Rummie, Wolfie, Brownie, etal
And I’m working on a terrific song for them to sing as they go on their primival adventure -
We’re off to see the lizard, the wonderful lizard of ooze…
And, get this, it would start out in vivid color and fade to stark black and white. I seem to need to fill out some details on this – any screen writers out there to help me?

  25. RunningDogLackey says:

The icy bloodlessness of bureaucratic language is usually directly proportional to the horrors it is trying to disguise.

“Exercise.” “Resettlement.” “Living space.” “Jewish Question.” “Cultural Revolution.” It’s all the same thing, semantically.

My one hope for Dick Cheney is that he doesn’t die while awaiting trial. That’s a show I’d like to watch.

  26. Keith H. says:

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone so physically weak, act like he’s so damn tough.
Somebody needs to give ol dickey a wakeup call.

  27. Andrew says:

I think it was a subconscious slip. he was thinking about those stock options he still has in halliburton (he made $490,000 off them last year) and how he would “excercise” those options. it can’t be helped, even heartless robots slip up from time to time…

  28. Culprit Zeta says:

Are you convinced now u.s.a?,how much more proof do you people need to stop your horrid government, another mass-murder against your own people by federal officials(9-11)?.in a country that holds the power of disrupting weather patterns over entire regions(HAARP)the response to katrina however apalling it is no longer a surprise.time to wake up people in the u.s.a displace your government if you truly care about the future of your “civilization”.

  29. Pablo in Mexico says:

I flipped on CNN this morning and there was a short report showing Bush being briefed on the aircraft carrier.

What a bad scene, the man was sitting there bored to death. You could see it on his face. No wonder his poll numbers continue to drop.

    What an asshole.

  30. Keith H. says:

    Incompetent, lazy asshole.

  31. Jay says:

    Zeta,

They have complete control of the media and unfortunately the vast majority of Americans still get their “information” from TV and radio, hence they are ignorant of the truth.

They have rigged the vote, therefore, the true will of the people cannot be realized.

We are only left with revolution and many of us are ready to take to the streets. Unfortunately the political “leaders” have demonstrated contempt for simple disagreement so dissent and a willingness to “take it to the steets” will likely be dangerous, even bloody if it has any teeth. So now is when we find out who the real patriots are.

We need all the help we can get. Washington D.C., Sept. 24th. The exchange rate is in your favor so please feel free to join us.

  32. Zappatero says:

29: yep, he’s going to excercise those Halliburton options, but he has to get them all the rebuilding contracts first.

According to Cheney’s 2001 financial disclosure report, the vice president’s Halliburton benefits include three batches of stock options comprising 433,333 shares. He also has a 401(k) retirement account valued at between $1,001 and $15,000 dollars.

His deferred compensation account was valued at between $500,000 and $1 million>/b>, and generated income of $50,000 to $100,000.

In 2002, Cheney’s total assets were valued at between $19.1 million and $86.4 million.

    Source

No conflict of interest there, eh?

  33. Ron says:

The glibbest dork on the face of the earth.

Jackson Hole takes on a whole new meaning when this dumbass is around.

Bush is a sucker to even let Cheney out of his cage.

Bush is in his cage on the Iwo Jima.

What Dr. Marble said. He bashed the right stupid idiot.

The 2006 election will be another rigged election and Republicans will ‘win’ again.

The only hope in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

  34. Zookeeper says:

    Go f*ck yourself, Mr. Cheney.

  35. cynical ex-hippie says:

Is that like when you buy a new cleaning product, you want to test on an inconspicuous corner first?

  36. doncom says:

There isn’t anything these people do that surprises me anymore – appal yes, surprise no. In fact, if anybody tells me they are a rethug, I automatically look for the horns and hooves.

If we want to take back the country in ‘06, then we’re going to have to get rid of the crooked voting machines. We need to have a Boston Tea Party to drown effigies of these crooked machines.

If these machines stay, then the rethugs will “win” regardles of their poll numbers and the exit polls. It happened in 2000, 2002 and 2004. What makes anybody think 2006 will be any different?

  37. to the right of you says:

its amazing how people get ticked off at operational term. lol. sorry, you just crack me up.

  38. Ryan Neat says:

    WrongOfYourself,

It’s amazing to me how stupid and insensitive reichwing hatemongers are in the face of disasters. Wake you retard, people died! But then again you’re probably a stupid racist, classist pig that can’t identify THOSE people as YOUR people or even americans… Get a clue you freeptard!

  39. s becker says:

With an official U.S. government bureau for weather modification now in force in D.C., perhaps it was an ‘exercise’. A military exercise before rather than just during?

  40. czolgosz says:

    http://www.livejournal.com/users/mparent7777/2710089.html

I think he chose his words very precisely. Look for New Orleans to be rebuilt as a Disneyland for the rich, white, and overtly genocidal, with guess who? getting all the rebuilding contracts.

Someday, when it is fully too late and we are about to be loaded into the death camps by these devils, we will get the message and slap our heads in amazement, finally realizing at last that they will kill EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH to service their agenda of TOTAL WORLD HEGEMONY.

Figure it out: there is NOTHING they won’t do.

    NOTHING.

    L. Czolgosz

  41. Rashid Ahmad says:

Why on earth do we believe in the Zionist American media news?
    To you Americans, it is of grave shame for not waking up against these horrendous crimes committed by these so called “Elites” (God damn them!!!}
Even, after knowing that this so called natural disaster, the Katrina, the Ophelia, and the Rita and etc.etc. (much more are awaited to meet the doom you poor Americans)how could you be deaf and dumb? How do you eat your daily meal so blindly even after seeing your fellow citizens are forced to eat their own excretions . How could you not stand against this so called The HAARP Technology (WMD TO BE MORE PRECISE.)
