“Maybe you know something I don’t know.”
That was President Bush’s reponse to a reporter who asked whether he had heard that his own FEMA director, Michael Brown, resigned today from the administration. For the second time today, Bush demonstrated that the Commander-in-Chief is not on top of things.

Moran!
September 12th, 2005 at 4:23 pmMaybe because he really is still going to be working for him. He is just going corporate, which is what they all do when rove thinks they may be a small liability.
I only wonder if we should start a program to implant the “dog/cat chips” to keep tract of them, “in government=code pork” “in corporation=feeding”.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:24 pmWhat is gonna happen to dumbya when Rove is indicted? It appears he can’t wipe his own ass nowadays.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:25 pmHe’s in a “need to know” position. You know, like always. UberWanker.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:26 pmC’mon, Bush knew. Brown’s award ceremony will probably be held Friday afternoon, with a kick-ass severence pay package to boot.
What a country.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:26 pmBush is getting Brown’s medal of freedom burnished at this moment.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:27 pmCuriously Bush was asked about Brown’s resignation and he claimed no knowledge — he was even somewhat believable in his ignorance. So, either Brown resigned and didn’t give advance notice to Bush, or Bush really didn’t know, proving that this is a White House run by committee, and he is merely a figure who stands in front.
Anyone want to place bets on how quickly Brown is employed by the Shaw Group (one of Allbaugh’s companies) or another no-bid contractor assigned to rebuild New Orleans? Bush rescinded the Davis Bacon Act, so Brownie can be paid less than minimum wage while he gets the stock options in lieu of wages he is accustomed to.
Why should he? He doesn’t run the country anyway, he just bicycles, plays golf and otherwise acts like the ‘incompetent’ CEO job that he thinks he’s doing…
September 12th, 2005 at 4:29 pmIt would appear EVERYONE in the country knows a lot this jackass doesn’t know – that his head is up his ass.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:32 pmHurricane, what hurricane
September 12th, 2005 at 4:33 pmI have a “stiff” Margarita for Mr. Brownie.
She’s floating down the street as we speak! Don’t worry, Georgie will get right on that.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:35 pmBush was too busy working so it can’t be a calculated political move! No way!
September 12th, 2005 at 4:43 pm#6
Marie,
You are absolutely correct! If there is anything believable about DUHbya it is his ignorance.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:45 pmBush is out of the loop. I don’t know whether to be more pleased or more angry.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:45 pmI cannot wait for what TDS does with this.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:45 pmVia Hotline Last Call:
Anyone know what he was supposed to do last week if he had been in D.C.?
September 12th, 2005 at 4:52 pmI guess we can assume that no one in this administration takes his job seriously, nor do they take national disasters seriously.
September 12th, 2005 at 4:56 pmI have a genetic condition that makes me a bubbleboy (well, girl). What’s his excuse?
September 12th, 2005 at 5:11 pmI was thinking about how Calif “turned” on Gray Davis after the wildfires… and how that turned out to be a problem of too little Fed support– and then I read further down that Brownie had a hand in that too.
Sadly, it’s a small world after all.
And one other point: Why does Bill Clinton appear with 41 ever anymore? The idea of the presidency being the pinnacle of government (read: People Firts) service is dead. Please make your own commercial Bill. Bush is the death mark.
September 12th, 2005 at 5:15 pmWhy doesn’t someone start a “Recall on Bush/Cheney” like they did for Gray Davis?
Bush/Cheney has been more deceitful and liars than was Gray Davis.
COME ON — START A RECALL NOW!!!
September 12th, 2005 at 5:39 pmBush lied, even on this…
Bush claims he doesn’t know that Brown resigned…
“Maybe you know something I don’t know.â€
(http://thinkprogress.org/2005/09/12/bush-not-aware-that-his-own-fema-director-no-longer-works-for-him/)
And yet, CNN reports, quoting Brown:
“As I told the president, it is important that I leave now to avoid further distraction from the ongoing mission of FEMA.”
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/12/katrina.impact/index.html
What bullshit.
September 12th, 2005 at 5:48 pmAgain Lying? Again? Again? Again? Again? Again? Again?
There is something morally wrong with Bush but also with the Congress and all the ‘powers’ that run this country.
It really shows how far gone our country is that NOBODY stops him from getting before the American people and lying again and again and again.
After they make the story go away, do they get another fresh start? The left enjoys excitement of the crisis but then MSM and the fascists just go on to something else.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:04 pmMaybe that was Bush’s way of not admitting he’d make a mistake.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:11 pm#21 – Give the guy a break, he has a short memory span. If I were in his shoes, I would put stem cell research on the front burner – you know Alzheimer’s.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:15 pmI would suspect that DUHbya was so far out it La La Land that he actually didn’t remember talking to Brown. A bit of that Texas ‘Shine can cause a lot of bad stuff to go away–for awhile.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:20 pmNow … this is a very LARGE administration … there’s alot of SEINOR officials … I had no idea.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:22 pmCould it be that the only time W has his finger on the pulse is when he is looking for a vein?
September 12th, 2005 at 6:32 pmHoly MOLY; you’ve GOTTA be kiddin’ me! Somebody’s people need to get with somebody ELSE’s people and work this shit out ;-/
I’d say this lends further evidence to a wee lil’ ole’ info gap at the highest levels of Government. SHEESH.
September 12th, 2005 at 6:35 pmKevin, (#20) To further your point, three hours ago he acts like he didn’t know of Brown’s resignation yet he’s already nominated a replacement. Check here: http://www.comcast.net/news/index.jsp?cat=GENERAL&fn=/2005/09/12/219873.html
September 12th, 2005 at 6:49 pmMikey,
That’s because he didn’t pick them – bush is a stooge… Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove run the show – he just shows up for the photo-ops and the vacations. And occassionally for the beer blasts to eat a couple of pretzels… ;)
September 12th, 2005 at 6:53 pmnext it will be: “WHAT FLOOD?”
September 12th, 2005 at 7:11 pmYep folks, you got lied to again. The man was notified by Drownem on Saturday that he was resigning.
Yet the shrub says in front of a national audience that he did not know he had resigned.
My God, the man is a chronic liar. Too much cocaine sniffing I assume. I know it made me forget a few things.
September 12th, 2005 at 7:45 pmThe only reason I watch this man on TV is to see what incredibly stupid thing he does next. This is not what I should be expecting from a WORLD LEADER…this kind of shit should be coming from a wacky neighbor on some bad sitcom. Any day now, I expect CNN to start using canned laughter.
September 12th, 2005 at 7:51 pmNot knowing about the resignation is pretty minor, lying about it isn’t much worse at this point.
But I find this admission extraordinary:
“We came from a church that’s feeding people who need help. And there are people from all over the country there. It was unbelievable.”
People reaching out and volunteering to help meet another human’s basic needs is something he finds unbelievable.
September 12th, 2005 at 8:01 pmDave,
September 12th, 2005 at 8:08 pmAt least he did not mangle the language – did you notice a hump on his back? – This sounds like a Rove feed.
Put a frame around it — it’s a perfect picture of the Bush Administration: “Maybe you know something I don’t.”
In fact, mostly everyone knows more than you, Fearless Leader.
I’m surprised the Emperor of Gall didn’t follow up the comment with “But Brownie’s doin’ a heckuva job!”
The bizarre national experiment with Bush-style neoconism may have just about reached its end.
Chill the champagne, but don’t pop any corks yet.
September 12th, 2005 at 8:10 pmHe used the same line- ‘Do you know something I don’t know’ when they floated the rumor about the woman for Supreme and then named Roberts hours later. It’s a game.
Game. Set. Match.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
And the Media falls for it every time.
We don’t need for Bush to be pretzelnit– we need Freedom to be the path of the press.

September 12th, 2005 at 8:26 pmDear Marie:
Bush I used the “I must be out of the loop” excuse many times during his Admin., mostly during Iran-Contra. And his VP, Danny-boy Quail was also an idiot! Hey, I’m beginning to see a pattern here… (:>
September 12th, 2005 at 8:30 pmWouldn’t ya love to be a fly on the wall in the shrub’s private living quarters? Where do you think librarian Laura starts?
September 12th, 2005 at 8:40 pmIt is a shame that she (Librarian Laura)is so much dumber than DUHbya, a feat in and of itself. How, you ask, did I come to that conclusion? Elementary, My Dear Watson, just look at who they married!
September 12th, 2005 at 9:09 pmHe thinks this sort of b.s. makes him look clever and it is his way of flipping off those who ask questions that aren’t to his liking. Smug smart-ass responses are unacceptable, but this is a man who believes the presidency means ruling rather than serving the country.
September 12th, 2005 at 9:36 pm“I can’t comment on something where you may know more about it than I do.”
Um…if that’s the standard, then how can he ever talk?
September 12th, 2005 at 9:47 pmWhat, “Drownie” quit? But he was doing such a heckuva job!
September 12th, 2005 at 9:53 pm#38, I think you’re on to the Bush pattern. I had nearly forgotten the number of times Bush #1 (and Quayle) made my jaw drop. Come to think of it Reagan’s Iran-Contra excuse was similar too. Hmmm.
September 12th, 2005 at 10:02 pm#40, Sometimes I just can’t resist gossiping. Laura nearly divorced Bushie years ago for his drinking and drugs, but Mama B had a talk with her and in the end everyone came to an agreement.
September 12th, 2005 at 10:07 pmMarie,
I suspect that agreement went something like this: “Play ball with me or Sonny will shove the bat up where the sun don’t shine.” (Edited somewhat because she (Ma B) is older than me–but so is dirt or is it we are speaking in redundantcies?)
September 12th, 2005 at 10:27 pmOn the subject of Laura, why don’t we ever hear anything about her family? Doesn’t she have parents or siblings? Who bore this murderer lover?
September 12th, 2005 at 10:42 pmI would just love to be a fly on the wall in the Bush house for a day.
September 12th, 2005 at 10:43 pmSusan, From what I recall, Laura is an only child. Her mother is still living and visits the White House and Crawford. Laura was driving a car at 17 when she accidentally killed a classmate – I think she blew a stop sign. No charges were filed – or if they were, the record has been expunged. I believe her father is dead. She is (or was) a heavy smoker. She learned long ago not to correct her husband. The marriage was in serious trouble years ago, but as noted above, Mama B and Laura came to an agreement, about which I think Clyde has an acceptable perspective.
September 12th, 2005 at 10:49 pmThanks Marie, I just found this at Wikapedia…..
In May 2000, a two-page police report about a fatal car crash caused by Bush when she was 17 was made public. The report says that on November 6, 1963 Bush (then Laura Welch) was driving her Chevrolet sedan with her classmate Judy Dyke. It was shortly after 8 pm on a clear night when Welch entered the intersection of U.S. Highway 349 and Texas Farm Road 868. Bush failed to observe the intersection’s stop sign and collided into a Chevrolet Corvair sedan driven by her ex-boyfriend Michael Dutton Douglas, also 17. Bush and Dyke sustained minor injuries; Douglas was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital. Welch was not ticketed or charged in connection with the collision.
Your right about her being an only child and her father is dead. Her mother was born in 1919 which makes her 86. Her family were democrats.
On the hurricane, she stated that poor people are usually the victims of disasters and that is just the way it is.
September 12th, 2005 at 11:06 pmMarie,
Your link failed.
September 13th, 2005 at 12:55 amSusan,
It wasn’t her classmate that laura killed, it was her boyfriend. The ‘chances’ of that random accident happening seems very unlikely. I think she’s a murdering crazy woman – she has to be insane to be married to the idiot prince…

September 13th, 2005 at 9:52 amThat’s our Bush!
More evidence that Bush has no clue what’s going on. Gee, maybe at least your advisors could warn you that one of your staff has resigned. Are they proficient with the internets? Looking at the time on the live feed…
September 13th, 2005 at 9:56 amIf he wasn’t so sad and tragic a figure, he would be funny. Oh Shrub, how can you be so DAMN STUPID??! This administration is really falling apart at the seams and the dress is almost off. You can see it in their faces and smell it in the putrid air. God help us! Someone save us! Please resign and go live in a cave somewhere, your kind is not wanted or needed. You serve no useful purpose and you only embarass yourself and this country.
September 13th, 2005 at 11:29 amI think you all didn’t listen to the video. Now, I am NOT happy with the way the administration handled the whole situation and I am NOT happy with Bush’s response time to NOLA relative to the 911 event, but I think, if you happen to read this, you should go back and listen to what he is saying again. He is saying that he wasn’t updated on the NOT SO IMPORTANT issues…that is what he does while he is in Airforce One… he was down on the ground trying to be with people and make up for his mistake. Personally, I think he is smart not to comment on the entire thing until he gets the complete low-down from his staff on why he quit, when he quit, and what the appropriate response would be in reaction to his quitting. As opposed to just making something up…which I think at this point he doesn’t need to do anymore of that.
However, listen to it once more… he is simply saying that he hasn’t been in a location that was briefing him second by second on world events… he was focused on the event he was attending at the Church.
This doesn’t mean he isn’t on-top of things… this simply means he is human like the rest of us and he doesn’t have some magical cyber-implant that lets him know exactly what is happening second by second but still lets him function normally…
Bush was just not “in-the-know” like the press was… the press has a satellite hook-up and “latest” news feeds streaming into their vans and they were sitting there watching their feeds waiting for the president…when he walks out from some gig where he was probably doing nothing but PR related stuff (i.e. not glued to a newsfeed) and then was bombarded by the news press with questions about an event that probably the news folks just got not more than 20 minutes before asking President Bush about it….
Think about it… seriously….
There is no way he can know everything at every moment of the day… it is IMPOSSIBLE to do that AND try to run a country.
September 13th, 2005 at 11:31 am“Maybe you know something I don’t know”??? What do you mean, “Maybe”? I think we should make a tee shirt with Dopey as the “What me worry” guy, and that stupendously stupid remark.
September 13th, 2005 at 11:53 amSurround yourself with stupid people, and you get stupid information, or none at all. The Bush team. And another thing…I just read they had 70,000 DVD’s ready to give the public regarding New Orleans Evacuation. With DVD as “relatively” new, and many more homes having VCR’s (videotape), why would they produce a DVD and not a video? The chances are a LOT more of the poorer folks have a VCR in their homes. Another example of how dumb things get done!
September 13th, 2005 at 12:07 pmMaybe we expect some honesty in our leaders, but after all, we have learned to live daily with lies, fibs, exaggerations, and just plain old bull shit. Think what advertising does to us, pushing us to buy products we don’t really need, for example. THEY / IT creates the demand or desire. America “bought into” the last election re-electing this man and his team. It’s all slight-of-hand manipulating us or our minds.
September 13th, 2005 at 12:18 pmUnbelievable ineptness. Will Farrell could do a better job than this jackass.
September 13th, 2005 at 12:19 pmWe’re going to start a war in Iran so we can fight the Hurricanes over there so we don’t have to fight them here.
September 13th, 2005 at 1:17 pmBushie, you’re doing a Heck of a job!!!
September 13th, 2005 at 9:58 pm#57 Lynn
That statement was very well put!!
September 14th, 2005 at 12:49 pmWHAT I HAVE NOT SEEN;
The ACLU setting up a feeding line.
People for the American Way helping in the shelters.
The NAACP doing any work whatsover.
The American Atheist organization serving meals in the shelters.
Jesse Jackson directing traffic at the gas stations.
I could go on but you get my message. Its the Christian people with love and compassion who do the work.
The gripers in Congress should come on down and get in line to pass the water and the ice. Are you listening and all of the sorry loafers we call Senators and Congressmen. They don’t have a clue as to what this life is all about here on the Gulf Coast.
