Official Charged With Reconstructing Iraq Overwhelmed By Kitchen Remodeling
For more than a year, L. Paul “Jerry” Bremer was the Bush administration official in charge of the multi-billion dollar reconstruction of Iraq. It was a disaster. Yesterday’s Washington Post helps explain the problem. Bremer is overwhelmed by the prospect of remodeling his kitchen:
“It works, but I don’t have a decent stove,” Bremer says. “There’s a lot that argues for doing the kitchen over, but I don’t look forward to three months with it in an uproar.”
This is the guy Bush picked to lead a multi-billion dollar effort to rebuild an entire country.

L. Paul Bremer III (”Jerry”) has been Chairman and CEO of the Crisis Consulting Practice of Marsh, Inc., a subsidiary of the Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC), since October 2001. Marsh Crisis Consulting assists corporations in planning for, managing, and recovering from a “full range of crises such as financial misconduct, natural disasters, product recalls, class action lawsuits and terrorism.” Also see re Marsh (http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?channelid=67&contentid=856&page=2).
In 2000, Bremer served on the National Commission on Terrorism. He also served on the National Academy of Science Commission to examine the role of science and technology in countering terrorism. He chaired the March 2002 Heritage Foundation study — Defending the Homeland. He continues on the Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for mass destruction terrorism. On June 11, 2002, Bremer was appointed to President George Walker Bush’s Homeland Security Advisory Council. Bremer replaced Jay Garner as the top civilian administrator of post-war Iraq in May of 2003, carrying the title of Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority.
In 1981, Bremer was appointed Executive Secretary of the State Department by Secretary Alexander Haig. Bremer directed the State Department’s 24-hour a day crisis management and emergency response center. He was named Ambassador to the Netherlands in 1983 and, in 1986, President Ronald Reagan appointed Bremer as Ambassador-at-Large for Counter Terrorism.
Bremer served at the Embassies in Afghanistan and Malawi, as well as service as Deputy Ambassador at the American Embassy in Norway. President Reagan named him as Ambassador to the Netherlands in 1983 where he served for three years.
Bremer was a Managing Director of Kissinger Associates, Inc. (1989-2001). Bremer joined Kissinger after serving twenty-three years of service in the Diplomatic Corps under six Secretaries of State.
Bremer is also the Founder and President of the Lincoln/Douglass Scholarship Foundation, which is a Washington-based non-profit organization that provides high school scholarships to inner city youths.
Bremer received his BA from Yale University, a CIEP (Certificat international d’études politiques) from the Institut d’études politiques in Paris, and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. His languages are French, Dutch and Norwegian.

For instance bush’s resume says he has degrees from ivy league schools, what it doesn’t say is that he was unqualified to attend those schools but was admitted as a ‘legacy’ and through generous contributions. It also says he ran 3 businesses, what it doesn’t say is that he bankrupted those same 3 businesses.
Resumes are easily configured to enlarge the perception of an individual (Mike Brown is a great case in point), whereas their experience, effectiveness and accomplishments tend to be abysmal failures. This administration is a classic example of frat boy resume padding – except this time people keep dying and they don’t see the unethical or illegal basis of assuming a job they’re truly unqualified for and CREATING those deaths.
The reichwing apologists who come here are just as guilty by supporting the crime…

Never mind that Bush earned an MBA from an Ivy League in the days when the professors weren’t idiot Left Wing ideologues and actually made you earn your grades. What did Kerry earn? A fluff degree.
Never mind that Bush became a pilot of the most advanced military aircraft of his day. What did Kerry pilot? Nothing. He rode around in a boat and when they actually forced him to go into a war zone he promptly shot himself in the foot three times and went home.

September 15th, 2005 at 3:14 pmActually Steve, you are incorrect there. I live in CA & my dad was an Electical Contractor (mostly commercial). He designed and built both houses I grew up in.
You pay attention to the design and you don’t hire the cheapest bidder. I mean, this is a house the person is going to live in themselves, right? Oh yea, get referances and not just from the contractor.
PS, I’ve done alot of remodel work myself. Me, I’d only contract out the cabinets as I can do the rest.

The problem down here is that the housing market is booming and most contractors are overbooked. Even the best ones will often leave work unfinished while they go off on another, more lucrative, job somewhere else.

I got lucky helping my dad when he was building our houses. I watched, helped and learned.

Bremer’s having a lengthy resume` doesn’t really mean much — after all Bush has a lengthy resume` too, and we know how much he really has accomplished in his lifetime (or should I say screwed up).
