Bush, Congress Get Failing Grades on Defense

President Bush, 10/18/04:

“Winning the war on terror requires more than tough-sounding words repeated in the election season. America needs clear, moral purpose and leaders who will not waver, especially in the tough times. … Unlike my opponent, I understand the struggle America faces and I have a strategy to win. Our first duty in the war on terror is to protect the homeland.”

And the libs would have done any better? Kerry would have been jetskiing...

  2. Yalli Says:

Great image of that report card. Going to pass that around to friends.

  3. LeisureGuy Says:

Michael Derravo: I agree, the GOP with Bush at the helm has done a terrible job. I believe that the Democrats would have done considerably better--the Dems have a track record, for example, of putting someone in charge of FEMA who actually had experience in disaster planning and response.

  4. wisedup Says:

Looks like a "F" for this report card. GeeDub..YOUR FIRED.

  5. Robert Says:

Hmmm. Maybe someone should start a Google Bomb of "Minimal Progress"...

Michael Derravo — Kerry doesn't jetski - get your facts straight.

  6. Jay Says:

No more evidence is required. It's action time now. We will have to forcefully revolt to remove these pretenders from office, or leave the goddamned country in disgust.

September 24th is our last chance.

  7. dino Says:

defending the indefensible. Watch how the trolls will deflect such as the idiot in post #1. Anything but admit the sheer incompetency of their cult hero. I am starting to believe that they are purposefully f**king things up.
Why else would they suspend Mavis-Bacon (screw the workers) while their friends get no-bid contracts in the billions for rebuilding the Katrina damaged area - and then REFUSE to recind their tax cuts for the rich. Evil greedy sobs is the gop. Sorry we have to cut social security grandma, we had to pay for Katrina. Never mind that the rich get even more fatter.

  8. Susan Says:

Didn't Thinkprogress hear about Jeb Bush's son?

He got busted for public drunkedness and resisting arrest. There may be additional charges.

Heard it on Air America radio this morning.

Do some investigative work, we'd love to see the story here.

  9. Tim O Says:

Yes, Kerry would have been Jet skiing because he would have addressed the problems immediately. Four years after 9/11, with the money not wasted in Iraq, Our ports and borders would have been more secure, loose nukes would have been on the front burner, etc.

Instead, we have Bolton trying to strip all Nuke Non prof agreements, expanded nuke developement, adventures in Iraq, with less than stellar result. Oh, I'm sorry they did have dog catcher elections in Saudi Arabia, and a nice "clean" election in Egypt.

NOBODY could have done worse with the entire country and world behind him than Shrub has done!

  10. Skid Says:

    #1,

Did you mean Kerry would have jet-skied into and around New Orleans? Where were the swift-boaters when we needed them? You ask if the Libs would do any better, to which I suggest getting the fuck out of the way and watching the Libs do better.
    Comprende?

  11. Elvis Says:

    Charles A Townsend,

EXCELLENT POST!! Thanks for the link.

  12. Blue State Red Says:

Nico, this is post is a complete waste of space. No matter what any "report card" may say about the Bush administration's record on defense and national security, the results will ALWAYS be better than on any comparable report card on the Left's defense and national security policies. That's why American voters consistently have refused to put Democrats in positions of authority over defense and national security - they know it could get them killed.

  13. SpudgeBoy Says:

Here's is a good view of Bush's approval ratings from that Poll Watcher's earlier post.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/americas_bush0s_post_katrina_poll_ratings/html/1.stm

It shows side by side Bush's approval ratings comparing 9/11 against Katrina. It is almost an exact mirror.

  14. SpudgeBoy Says:

Sorry Blue State Red. But, there hasn't been any worse record on defense or security policy recorded in any history book as George Bush's. He will go down as the worst president (including crappy Democratic ones) ever. Never have we seen the USA in the weak predicament we are in right now.

    You are a clueless imbicile.

  15. Susan Says:

SpudgeBoy, next months polls will show a more drastic decline. The republicans that are running in 06 are distancing themselves from Bushie.

Now that Jebs son has been arrested that should help the decline in the polls too.

  16. Susan Says:

Funny how alcoholism and drug addiction runs in the family isn't it?

  17. Sharon Cox Says:

Blue #18, and no one has died on Bush's watch.? 9/11, Iraq war, Katrina. What happened here.?......Blessings

  18. SpudgeBoy Says:

Yes, I saw that. GO BUSHES!!!

You see the look on his face. You know he just got through telling the cops "I'm the Presidents nephew." and the cops were like "That's nice. Turn to the right!"

I need that picture for my collection. Another happy moment for me. I will file it next to "Go fvck yourself Mr. Cheney!"

  19. Susan Says:

Oh, I forgot. Hastert will lose his next election too. He had to bus people in from other precincts to rally for him last week. He couldn't get anyone in his own precinct to do it.

He also sent his hired thugs to some businesses that do not support him to threaten bodily harm.

My husband and I went to one of the businesses and told the owner of a business that the thugs actually did him a favor. Without the write up about the thugs intimidation I would never known that "Spokes Bike Shop" existed. I'm sending everybody I know there to purchase bikes and accessories.

Okay, this is an online plea.
Democracy for America is hosting an online competition for Progessive candidates and Bruce Braley, a strong candidate, needs to get in the top 10 to go on to the next round.
    Here's info. on Bruce: http://www.brucebraley.com/issues.asp

He is currently in 11th place!

Meanwhile, this guy http://www.glubaforcongress.com/ in the same district, a tired old fart who's run for Congress 3 times and lost each, has somehow gotten up to #6.
    I suspect foul play.

    But please go vote http://www.democracyforamerica.com/
for Bruce. He's the guy who can win us a seat in Congress and is someone we should all be excited about.

  21. Hank Says:

Blue State Red, #18, try getting a brain, dipshit. The Repulicans lost in 2000, but won in 2004, because they were scared into it with the help of those swiftboat assholes, Osama's last minute video, and Homeland Suckcurity calling code red! Code blue! right up until the last vote was cast before they quit calling anything but a green light for Bushco.

I'd like to see the republicans try it now. Bush's ass is in a sling, pal, and you will see the republi-rats deserting Bush's ship before the 2006 elections. There's blood in the water, and all ready, the big, tough-talking rightwinger politico's are running as fast as they can to get away from him.

  22. WiscoDuk Says:

This post has nothing to do with the failing grades of Bushco...to the informed these "grades" are almost a given.

Iran is next on Bushco's list...nuclear weapons have little if anything to do with it. The reason for this post is that Iran and the nuclear BS is in the msm again. Scary is that Iraq NOW has very strong ties to Iran...thanks to W.

I recently posted just a bit about Iran and it's plans to form an oil cartel aside from OPEC which would trade in Euros rather than American dollars...this is probably not new news to most of you but to others it may be. (Try searching Iranian Oil Bourse.) Bushco will NEVER let this happen. One of the major reasons for Iraq-1 was because Saddam had similar oil plans. Daddy Bushes propaganda about freeing the Kuwaiti people was dung...they left before the invasion and left their migrant worker "servants" to fend for themselves. By the way...no democracy there yet...still a King in power.

The Iraq "war" really is all about oil...few talk about the huge untapped reserves under the Iraqi desert. The major "struggle" now is whom will have control of them. Iran is next...unless

In looking for a positive about the Katrina debacle...it seems to have awaken the populace a bit. (The internet also plays a key factor.) Bushco's Iranian plans CAN be dismantled before they get into full swing if nipped in the butt now. Bloggers and their trailers might be the key. (With Bio-diesel and electric powered vehicles...our DOMESTIC oil would be plenty sufficient to run the country for centuries…we’ll still need gasoline for the next decade or so)

  24. Susan Says:

Right on Hank. And in 2000 police reports that Laura Bush killed her ex-byfriend in the 70's was released to the public. First I heard of it was last week. Shoud have been on the front page of every newspaper in the nation.

Just wait until the videos and photos of our soldiers torturing, raping and killing detainees come out. (Doing what Saddam Hussein has been accused of) Bushie has done a great job of supressing them but the will come out eventually. The ACLU will see to it.

Support for the troops will dwindle rightfully so.

  25. Sharon Cox Says:

Susan, I read about Laura in one of many research link's in 1999. I was doing research on the Bush bunch before the election. Wanted to get a handle on how good or bad our opposition was. Read resumes on them and Cheney and a bunch of them..Wish I could quote where. May have come from the Bush book that the divorced bush wrote..It's all the other stuff I wasen't aware of. Yikes!...Blessings

  26. Susan Says:

I knew that the Bushie's were criminals in 2000 but the Laura killing got past me. My point is, all of the Bushie crimes should have been front page news.

Are you saying you aren't aware of the videos and photos at Abu Graib Sharon? The pix we saw are nothing compared to what really happened. Thats why the insurgents will not stop until they get justice.

I'll be happy to elaborate if you're not family with the attrocities performed by American soldiers.

  27. Jeanne Says:

I took an Amtrak train last summer. NO screening. Your tax dollars went to a 8 by 11 inch piece of paper telling me I could only bring two carry on pieces of luggage. It was in color. Did I feel like my safety was compromised? No, I felt like my goverment is wasting my money on freaking stupid things like big parties in lobbyland.

  28. Susan Says:

When I take a train out of downtown Chicago I am asked to show that I have a ticket in hand. They sell tickets on the train but if you buy one on the train you are a suspected terrorist.

Going in to the city is different. You can buy your ticket on the train and not be a terrorist.

  29. Citizen80203 Says:

I hate to admit it, but this really shows the Democratic failures as well as the GOP's failures.

Our failure is not a failure of ineffectual government but one of ineffectual message. There is a critical mass of opinion acknowledging the colossal failures of GOP governance RIGHT NOW. However, our leaders have remained impotent in using this enormous opportunity. There is a time limit in which they must act to reframe the GOP as ineffective and corrupt, that time limit is weeks not months.

The GOP has already mobilized their machine with, blame gaming environmentalists, free enterprise zones, suspension of market wages, more tax cuts for the elite, corporate welfare, school vouchers, with the list expanding each hour. The machine is massive and effective in message, because it is united and organized. They are united by loyalty which keeps everyone on message (the few dissenters will fall into line or be banished). We on the other hand are in disarray, with the 08 presidential hopefuls (the leadership) pushing their own singular agenda for possibility of nomination.

There will probably not be another opportunity of such magnitude before the 2006 mid-terms. Political opportunity MUST BE SIEZED UPON when it presents itself. Just ask the skel Rove about the 911 mid-term election opportunity and how the GOP seized it with zeal. The clock is ticking and ineptness is no longer an option if America is to survive.

  30. Susan Says:

I let the dems know that if they do not support impeachment they will not get my vote citizen.

They are scrambling like the pugs are. Americans are disappointed with their government and I suspect that the independents have the best opportunity right now.

  31. Hank Says:

Susan, as much as I dislike the Bush family's spoiled asses, I have to give this to Laura (Welch) Bush. The accident you mention happened on Nov. 6, 1963 when she ran a stop sign and hit another car in Midland, Tx driven by her boyfriend, who was killed in the crash. I think she was 17 at the time.

I find it interesting that liberals and democratic opponents never mention it, nor Junior's alcoholic/drug-induced past, which is more than you can say about the rightwing in this country. Remember the remark by John McCain about young Chelsea Clinton being "ugly because Janet Reno was her father" or Bill Clinton's statement about trying pot, which they rant about to this day. You tell me who is filled with abhorance and a loathing hatred?

  32. John the Elder Says:

Re: Jeb Bush and Family: It appears that the Bushies have poor track record when it comes to raising their own families...Too much money...too little attention to important details...too much alcohol and drugs by the elders = kids who are walking problems for society as a whole. Military boot camp for the lot might straighten them out before they too become the diasters that their parents, grandparents (think Babs comments in the Huston Astrodome last week)and uncles and aunts are...Oh that's right...this lot doesn't serve the country other than as they choose to...no chance of them making any sacrifices for America.

  33. Citizen80203 Says:

    Susan

WE MUST HAVE POWER FIRST, before any talk of impeachment can be taken seriously. Do not fall into and all or nothing mindset, if you and other progressives do all will be lost. Step by step, inch by inch, we must build power first.

  34. Sharon Cox Says:

Yes, Susan, I have seen all the photos and videos of our war crimes. That's one of the many reasons why I want this dreadful war in Iraq stoped. Thousands of Iraq citizens and 2000 of our troops have died. Rumsfeld needs to be the first one held accountable and then down the chain of command from there. Not all of our service personell are like that but the ones that are should be held accountible. War crimes is serious. I take that back, first Bush and Cheney. From day one this bunch has been on a march of distruction against america and the world. I grieve every day for all our losses, and now our people in the south. One informative site I viset is common dreams, always lots of info. It would be to our advantage to be able to send letters to all the senators and governors at one time from a one click source. All at once joining together to let them know we are going to vote them out if they continue with this madness..Any ideas or web sites to do that.?...Blessings

  35. Marie Says:

How do you argue a hypothetical with any legitimacy?
Kerry would have done this or that.... is stupid.
Just compare records -- for the most part: the people have benefitted under Democratic presidents. Under republican presidents for the most part, corporation have benefitted. Today's record shows: Taxes have gone up, services have gone down. Under Bush, illegal war has been started, taxes for the rich have gone down, unemployment has gone up, uninsured have increased, deficit spending has increased, debt has increased, security has decreased, safety of citizens has decreased.
#18, Bush's record on defense and homeland security - just to name two - is horribly deficient, much like him. You cannot defend him with any integrity.
Hundreds killed in a hurricane disaster for lack of "Homeland Security" -- 2000 killed in Iraq for an illegal war.
We are not safer, and the public is becoming aware of that.

  36. Susan Says:

Citizen, how could it hurt if we start impeachment hearings? Why not put Bushie thru what Clinton went thru?

If we don't we are telling all presidential candidates that they have our permission to lie, cheat, steal and murder. There will be no reprocussions.

I'm for impeachment and I will not support any candidate that does not demand hearings, period.

  37. Marie Says:

It's fun to be smug and chuckle at the problems of Bush children -- they are all apples from the same tree. But more seriously, Citizen is right, we have to stay focused and take it step by step toward getting back a majority in Congress, and THEN we will have a chance to rid the country of this abysmal man and his administration.
Democrats have plans - good ones - the MSM sneers at them, or wants it boiled down to a sound byte. Complicated peoblems require complex solutions. Something Bush is incapable of, and the MSM doesn't have time for. We have to force the MSM to give us news and information; we must support Democrats in every office; we will take the country back ourselves.

  38. Susan Says:

No Sharon, you have not seen all the videos and photos. Bushies lawyers are blocking the UCLA from having them released. Rumsfeld admits they are very damaging and admits murder and rape happened. We have not seen those tapes.

I write letters to newspapers and politicians and sign petitions everyday Sharon. If you join Moveon.org or democracynow.org or votetoimpeach.org you will be so busy your head will spin. They pass your email address around to grassroots organizations. Sign up everywhere. Dont just visit their site, register for their email alerts.

  39. Susan Says:

Marie and Citizen, I expect some republicans to support impeachment. We already have them backing away from Bush because they are up for re-election.

I'm with Ramsey Clark and will stay the course.

  40. Citizen80203 Says:

    Susan

We do not have the power to even call for a vote on impeachment. Even if we take back both houses, mathematically we still could not garner 2/3 of the senate votes needed. It would be much more useful (and realistic) to take the house and get subpoena power. Then use the subpoena power to bleed and torture the administration with investigations. This will weaken the GOP so severely by 2008 that a huge swing could occur. Besides, investigations may turn up something beyond the usual heinous acts we have grown accustomed to and actually lead to impeachment. This is why I believe we must get power first. Don't get me wrong, I would like nothing more than these f***king skels being brought to trial and put to sleep. But I feel we have to be logical and surgical in the coming year, hell we have to be cold, calculating, and ruthless in the coming year.

Please do not take offense, I think you are a pure substance here, and I admire your postings. So blessing to you!

  41. Sharon Cox Says:

Well Susan, I am already on all those mailing lists and sending out ton's of responses and emails daily. Guess we do have a lot of work in common. Wish I were able to go to DC for the march next week but will continue here at home. Frankly I am worried for you all, given the way this bunch is moving and my memory of Kent State years ago I can't help but worry..Blessings

  42. Marie Says:

Susan, you KNOW I want him impeached, and preferably standing trial in the future too. Him, Cheney, Rummy,Rice,et al. I will support Ramsey Clark and anyone who advocates impeachment -- but I realize that we need Congress to do it. I am taking comfort in seeing Rethuglicans beginning to act scared and back away from him, but that is a long way from actually bringing impeachment. Now, if enough of us in the country make sufficient noise, we CAN get the power and we CAN get him out. Maybe we will meet up in D.C.

  43. Pablo in Mexico Says:

I am afraid that you are wrong. The attack of Iran will take place as scheduled.

We are not going to attack Iran personally. Bushlandia has paid Israel at 10 billion bounty to bomb Iran when it is most advantageous to bushlandia.

It will happen, probably in time for the 2006 elections.

About Laura Bush. Folks, she is not the goody two shoes that the MSM make her out to be. At Southern Methodist University, she was anything but a methodist. She was one of the biggest cocaine dealers on campus.

Talk to any of the bush old neighbors and they will tell you that both of them were heavy drikers. In fact, it was Laura Bush who made the trips to the liquor store for King George. She also furnished him the coke, and used it herself.

  44. T2005 Says:

The only progress this Administration has accomplished in its 5 year rule is enriching their cronies at Halliburton, etc. with no bid contracts in Iraq and the South. They define progress as transfers of wealth from the people to the rich. They have shown nothing but contempt for ordinary Americans. How else could you explain their utter failure, according to this report, at protecting us from terrorists? THEY DON'T CARE! They don't govern, they STEAL!

Not sure about liberals, but Castro does much better than Americans in general. Of course, almost any Cuban is better educated, better read and better informed than most Americans.

    Response to Nat Hentoff

  46. Ryan Neat Says:

    Michael,

The libs DID do better. Under clinton FEMA received praise consistently, and was considered a model organization of how to manage disasters. The problem is that FEMA was gutted by inept leaders who instead preferred to divert its money to tax cuts. So yes libs not only WOULD do better, we HAVE done better. But then again, that could be said about any aspect of this administration...

  47. SpudgeBoy Says:

At least the folks here that pay attention BEFORE this unfolds will know it's once again all about oil. To borrow a phrase from a few years back..."Who put our oil under their sand anyway?"

No matter what happens...the oil will still flow...it's all about who gets the lions share of the revenues.

  50. Ryan Neat Says:

    Spudge,

Sorry for the grammatic lack of clarity. It should have read.

It's safe to say that libs would have done better on EVERY aspect of governing than the current administration - as the previous 8 years and every other previous democratic adminstration has proven.

Republicans continually put our country at risk by selling WMDs and advanced technologies to unstable countries with dictators. They create and train terrorist groups like AlQueda(Which was an ACTUAL CIA trained and funded organization). They disrupt the economy with voodoo economics that only the most zealot and incompetent of economists back. They undermine social stability and democratic practices and values. They undermine the laws that prevent large scale corporate takeover of media which used to prevent a complete rightwing media - but now facilitates it. Basically they are a poison to the american system of democracy, security and civil liberties - and yet the morons who defend it are preoccupied with the fact that 'their party won', and are too stupid to realize that they're the biggest losers (both literally and figuratively).

  51. steve in chicago Says:

my buddies' band from seville, spain (a nato ally) had the US gov't thwart their plans for a US tour. they were supposed to have played tonight at the union memorial terrace in madison, wisconsin, but since their lead singer somehow ended up on a "no fly list" on thursday they had to cancel.

that was a pretty prestigious gig, in front of 4000 people and would have done wonders for their commercial success in the midwestern united states. plus 7 more gigs including two in chicago, bloomington indiana, and NYC.

we are kicking ourselves in the face folks, this is another victory for al qaeda. small and seemingly insignificant but together all these incidents represent a fundamental problem and threaten our open and free society and culture (not to mention our economy!!!)

by the way, speaking of economics, since i printed the t-shirts for the tour out of my own pocket, I now get to eat $1,750 worth of t shirts for a band that wasn't allowed to show up. those same 250 t shirts would have netted me around 3 grand had I had the opportunity to sell them.

thank you, bush administration, tom ridge, mohammed atta, lockheed martin, and knee-jerk politicians.

They get a failing grade in all aspects of government.
It's a little hard for me to believe that there is no way the people of this country can hold their government accountable other than at rigged election machines.
I've gotten to the point of thinking that the son-of-a-bitches don't even need election fraud, the MSM can just lie about the results. Fu*kin' pigs.
Isn't it tomorrow that dick 'dragon' cheney goes under the knife? If there is any justice in the universe, the anesthesiologist (spelling?) will be a patriot and have some 'technical difficulties' with his equipment. Either way, after four heart attacks, the dirty slimy weak puke faced bastard already has one foot in the grave. I can't wait to celebrate his demise. It's gonna be awesome. I've got a back yard big enough for an extended party. I'll start the b.b.q.er about five. Did you guys like the lite...or the ale?

  53. SpudgeBoy Says:

I was just yanking your chain Ryan. I know exactly what you mean. I am behind you 100%.

  54. Ryan Neat Says:

    Steve,

That's so true - there's an article in the San Francisco Chronicle that I ran across that discusses the BILLIONS of dollars of losses for the southwest agricultural region because there aren't enough workers to pick crops. And where do those workers come from? Across the borders the minutemen are 'protecting'. The result is economic disaster for american business, all because there isn't a valid policy for how to deal with issue that supports our american need for cheap food, while keeping the farmers in business.

  57. Ryan Neat Says:

    kj,

Here's a writeup about the 'killer laura the murdering first lady' that walks through the whole event and subsequent coverup. She was a minor, and she lied through her teeth, and for the most part she got away with 'murder'.

Laura Welch Bush, driving east on Farm Road 868, was approaching the only highway in town on a clear night with a bright moon. She lived only a couple of miles away and had been through this particular intersection hundreds of times in the years her family had lived in Midland, Texas. On her left Laura Bush could see her boyfriend’s car approaching the intersection for the entire time he turned off of Solomon Lane, where he lived, and onto the highway. She knew it was her boyfriend’s car driving south, because of the unique headlight configuration of his 1962 Corvair Sedan. Laura Bush knew her boyfriend and she knew his car--the headlights are low slung and a full 9-inches narrower than any other car on the road. The entire profile of the car is small and easy to distinguish anytime, day or night.

Michael Dutton Douglas, 17, had driven only half a mile before America’s Black Widow of the Night deliberately ran the stop sign at high speed, striking the small car with such ferocity that her boyfriend was ejected from the car and into the dirt. Laura Bush, “America’s First Murderess of the Land,” had literally ripped a hole in her boyfriend’s neck. Michael lay there for eight minutes staring at Laura and her once loving arms, while Laura stared back wondering, “Is the head dead yet?” There has never been an adjudication of the murder, even though Laura and her girlfriend had apparently conspired to murder him and been laying in wait for his car.

    CONSCIOUSNESS OF GUILT

    THE LIES OF LAURA BUSH

Laura Bush has spent a lifetime lying about murdering her boyfriend.

Laura Lie #1: Laura Bush said that she was not driving. The police report said that she was.

Laura Lie #2: Laura Bush said that it was raining and slick. No, Laura, the weather was dry and clear.

Laura Lie #3: Laura Bush said that her boyfriend was riding in an open jeep. No, Laura, it was a 1962 Corvair Sedan.

Laura Lie #4: Laura Bush said that Michael Douglas was not her boyfriend. The District Attorney said that he was!

Laura Lie #5: Laura Bush said that she was sorry. It hasn’t kept her from any of the class reunions.

[...] ThinkProgress compres the rhetoric on national security preparation to the 9/11 commission’s report card on the implementation of the actual policies that were promised, and, well…it’s not pretty. [...]

  59. kjlovell Says:

Ryan, you are once again one step ahead of me! I came in here to post the same. kudos to you.

Also, let the people look into Bertha Champagne, Marvin Bush's babysitter. She died mysteriously in October (early october) 2001 after threatening to squeal. I found it odd that they said she lived with the Bushs and yet her son said she lived elsewhere. I find it odd that her car was left in gear and stayed put until after 9 p.m. when it made a path toward her and crushed her. I find it odd that the local papers didn't report on the death at all, and it took a couple of weeks before a major newspaper picked up the story.

  60. kjlovell Says:

While we're at it, look into the story of Chandra Levee intern to Condit, and Joyce Chang intern to Berman. Both lived in the same neighborhood, both were interns to congressmen and both turned up dead, Chang in 1999 and Levee in 2001.

It seems the offices of Condit and Berman were close, it seems that Levee and Chang lived near each other.

  61. Jennty Says:

#30 Susan I have to take issue with your statement
"Support for the troops will dwindle rightfully so."

This is bullshit. We should never fail to support our troops. We can oppose the reason they are sent into combat, we can despise their Commander in Thief, but we can't fail to support our troops. The disgusting actions by the anti-Vietnam protestors towards the troops should NEVER happen again. The troops don't get to choose where they are sent (they aren't as lucky as DUHbuhya) they go where they are told. They serve honorably. The vast majority of the troops are good people. There will be some who are bad, but don't confuse those shitbirds with the overwelming majority of the troops who serve honorably. Be careful how wide a brush you use to paint with. Broad brushes are the tactics of The Rove. It's despicable to do so. That path has caused so much damage to the country over the last 30 years. It's not time to repeat it.

  62. jim Says:

Imagine how bad Bush's grades would have been if he hadn't cheated on the quadrennial exams.

The problem with Bush isn't that his dog eats his homework, but that the poor dog can't keep it down, despite TeamBush continually force-feeding it.

  63. Deep Something » Blog Archive » Why Progressives Hate George Bush? Says:

[...] For doing squat since 9/11 to make us safer here at home. For the policies that have led to the tripling of global terrorist attacks around the world. [...]

  64. Jamaica Says:

I can't believe that there are still trolls or deluded people who would posit what Kerry would be doing, or what the world would be like with responsible government ----

in order to justify the excesses of this administration!

    That is delusional.

#74 talks about never failing to support the troops. That's cool.

But don't fall into the trap of losing context of the Vietnam era protests. That is another broad brush. What you get on the retrospectives is a caricature – not the core of the situation at that time.

Not everyone was essentially against the troops. That is such a phony image. A whole lot more people had friends & relatives in the conflict back then. Recall there were many Vets involved in the anti-war movement & that's a big part of what legitimized the thing.

  65. Mockingbird Says:

IF this is the priority - then they should get out of office
& give someone other than Gilligan a try.

So far, nothing has yielded significantly good results -
    everything's been a screw up.

    Where is bin Laden?
    Is he alive, dead? What?
