BREAKING: Bush’s Ratings Drop After Speech

This just in from Rasmussen Reports:

Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That’s down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that 41% give the President poor marks for handling the crisis, that’s up from 37% before the speech.

A disappointing debut for Compassionate Conservatism v2.0.

  1. SpudgeBoy says:

Screw you MSM and trying to make Bush out to be sincere. AT least the general public is now starting to wake up.

  2. jonibgud says:

So, will the pundits who gushed over Bush’s speech re-evaluate their reviews and tell us if they think the speech was so compelling?

  3. SpudgeBoy says:

I can’t see why any of these people think Bush has a heart. He and Cheney stayed on vacation (even though Cheney gave the “fix the pipeline order from vacation) until Thursday after the hurricane. How can anybody with a conscience stay on vacation when hundreds of thousands of people need their help.

Sh!t, I am just a regular guy and I wanted to go help them.

I think that the news people from the MSM have the same problem as Bush. The are so rich, they have no clue as to what is really going on in the world around them. These guys need a wake-up call. The only people you see really reporting on what happned during Katrina are people like Anderson Cooper who is asking “When is the time for placing blame? When is it time for pointing fingers?”

  4. unpapier says:

Where do i get these numbers? The numbers on Meet The Press were different? I for one also thought Bush turned things around with their Brand Rehab Procedures I think I need to retract this.

  5. SpudgeBoy says:

You get the numbers by clicking the “just in” link.

I can tell you that Bush didn’t change the minds of anybody I know. Everybody saw exactly what he was trying to do. Throw money at the problem. Yes, money will help to rebuild MS,LA and AL. But it will not fix the problem of poverty in America. Guess what Mr. Bush. There other poor places in the USA. Go to Detroit, Los Angeles, New York or any other big city.

  6. Ron says:

He is going to build a new city just like Nero did, so it’s ok.

He plays guitar, he rides bike, he goes on vacation. Who doesn’t do those things.

Just because his approval ratings are low doesn’t mean he isn’t going to go to work a couple of hours a month.

He only made 700 grand last year, so he’s not that rich.

We’re all trapped. Rich, poor, in-between. There ain’t nobody getting out of here alive.

If I only knew whereabouts my private jet, then I could fly to my villa in the Cayman Islands. My swimming pool is filled with Roman gold coins. I inherited them from Atilla the Hun.

ratings schmatings, let him do his job. It don’t take much to be a president like George.

I see a lot of frustration, but not a lot of influence from the regular Joe’s and Jane’s of this country. Why don’t we all take a leaf out of the book of pro-democracy (yeah — the way the U.S. USED TO BE!)countries and just arrange for the whole damn country to not go to work one day. Elections are rigged, the media are bought and paid for by the elite who are only interested in their own little acre of heaven and don’t give a shit about anyone else, and our government is filled with profiteers and opportunists who couldn’t care less if 3,000 or 2,000 people are killed if it means Halliburton or Bechtel can just ride in on their Hummers and rebuild. The only power left is the power of the people, and we should use it. It’s certainly time!

Hey! The scrub is not the only one who is guilty of the mess we are in,let us not forget all of his cronies in the Senate and Congress, they are also guilty of these acts.Time to clean house.

  13. SpudgeBoy says:

The problem is most people that I meet, while they hate Bush, are not willing to stand up and do something about it. They just want to wait until 2008 and “vote him out.” And I’m like “Vote him out?! You freaking morons, he can’t run again.”

That is the typical bullshit that I hear from educated, well off people. They just don’t get it. Most people just don’t get it. They are happy sitting idly by while the country is raped.

People have the “Well shucks. I hope we have a better president next time.”

Part of the problem is that teh government has made us way to focused on our jobs. People work way too many hours, for not really good pay and are always worried about making ends meet. To have to focus on politics also is just too time consuming. this of course was done on purpose to keep the numbers of voters down.

  14. big dave from queens says:

ABC, NBC, CBS, + CNN are all run by RW ideologues. Each media outlet is part of a corporate conglomerate with ties to the military/industrial complex. If there is no war and no chaos, these companies make less money. If there is war and chaos, these companies make more money.

So we must continue to label each media outlet above as right wing, dishonest, anti-American, etc… By doing such, the average Jane and Joe will intuitively ignore the main stream media.

  18. kjlovell says:

#13 You are so right. They make it where the middle class that still have jobs are only worried about getting by. Hungry people are always easier to control. They want it that way so no one has the opportunity to see what they are up to – zealot appointments, appointments that are political thank yous, corruption, treason, big money for carlyle, halliburton, bechtel and the list goes on.

What they didn’t factor in is the age of instant information. True news, sharing of ideas. Yes, the internet, e-news, blogs and the like.

It is chimpy’s Acheles (not sure of spelling on that one) heel.

I fully expect chimpy to say, ok I admit it we stole 2 elections and I really wasn’t elected, so I have decided to run for my first term in 2008. Well, we all know he would phrase if where he didn’t have to “admit” anything, but the message would still be the same. He even wanted to rewrite the constitution so that he could remain pResident until the “war on terror” was over. Believe me, there is absolutely nothing these corrupt evil people will not do.

  19. Alan says:

If a a clandestine video came out that showed GWB giving a blowjob to Jeff Gannon while Cheney jerked off alongside while talking to Karl Rove about how to transfer military secrets to the Chinese and leaving Tony Blair hung out to dry over Iraq and how they could always make idiots think the tax cuts were for them you would STILL have 35% who would “approve” of GWB and would vote for him again.

  20. Pablo in Mexico says:

Congretional elections are coming up in Nov. 2006. All of the house, and about half of the senate must stand for re-election.

For certain, we only have the ballot box which is controlled by the pukes. That is the ad news.

The good news is that in the overall polling the dems lead by 12 points, 58 to 46. Those are good numbers.

  21. The Debtonator says:

Bush sucks and we know it. We laugh at his stupidity. He must be impeached!

Spudgeboy has all the right comments!
When I think I have something to add, I read further and you have said it already.
    Right on, Spudgeboy!

  23. Marie says:

I wonder how many people have read what I read in the Chgo. Tribune today — US seeks donations to aid the rebuilding of Iraq. Andrew Natsios is head of the new web site, announced 9/9/05. What is this — a tag day for Halliburton?

  24. carolyn says:

He bought his co-conspirators in Congress with his manipulation of the voting machines. They cannot vote against him. He OWNS them. They are not about to go along with impeachment. It’s going to be up to the citizens to switch the next Congressional election to paper ballots in each state. That will be our only hope. There is proof that the machines were rigged. Think about it,if he had been popularly elected, his numbers would not have been so low right after his so-called re-election.

  25. raul says:

Time to chimpeach George Walker Bush, father to two alcoholics, son to Barbara “Marie Antoinetee” Bush, and uncle to drug-addict and alcoholic nephews and nieces.

Why is it so difficult for conservatives to believe in evolution when their president is a half-breed speciment of a chimp and an ass? Let the new Scopes Monkey Trials begin to impeach our vietnam-era AWOL loser.

  26. Theo says:

It looks to me like all Bush’s talk about limitless spending and a big government reconstruction project has begun to alienate his base. And when a partisan ideolog like Bush loses his base he’s done for, cause he really has nothing else.

  27. mary says:

Carolyn …..You are so right that our only hope is in getting paper ballots in every state in time for the 2006 elections….But how in the name of God are we going to perform this miracle?????????

  28. Jim says:

One wonders just WHAT it is they are putting into the air or in the water that makes a substantial portion of the population still support Chimpster. After all, they fire CEOs for less incompetence than he has demonstrated. I mean, you’d think he’d luck out and get something right once in a while.

So you have to believe that the way things turn out is exactly how they wish them to turn out and that, folks, is truly scary.

  29. Met00 says:

Since Sept 2 I have been trying to find out who has central control over the rebuilding effort. I am an Internet discounter of educational products. I want to lower my cost to 10% over what I charge and supply schools in LA, MS and AL from my warehouse in AL with products at deep discount (10% covers my operating costs).

So after 15 days of calling everywhere in DC I can tell you that unless you know someone, you can’t “help”. You can’t try to save the government money. You can’t be an honest person and participate in the reconstruction.

Cronies get, cronies know where to go to get. They know who to pay to get. It’s the Iraq reconstruction all over again. If you pay off the right perople you get to play and profit. If you want to lower costs and get stuff to the people ASAP you can’t even get in the door.

  30. carolyn says:

    Mary,
I’m thinking, I’m thinking. They got rid of some in California. It will take action by the people, but most people have been cowed by these crooks for a long time. There’s got to be a way. I know it is being studied, but that doesn’t mean action. We need a megaphone like Howard Dean or Al Gore. Move-on.org? It’s time we the people had a voice!

  31. Marie says:

“So you have to believe that the way things turn out is exactly how they wish them to turn out and that, folks, is truly scary.”
There would seem to be no other explanation.

  32. Steven says:

I’m tired of cursing MSM. They will NEVER change. Their business is to sell cars, homes in suburbia and other crap. It is NOT to bring you news / truth.

I would PAY for a network that brought a little truth over the airwaves / cable network. Surely there are enough people tired of being smothered with bullshit something like a TRUTH network could at least break even?

  33. Lindsay says:

Regarding the speech on Thursday night. The blue background and the blue shirt matched perfectly. Too bad his mother didn’t teach him how to button his shirt. You always start from the bottom up. Geez – he has to ask permission to pee and can’t even dress himself!

  34. ardyjay says:

The first step for the USA to begin rebuilding international respect is to get your collective heads out of your asses and impeach W. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. Could it possible that this is finally happening?

  35. Miss A Button George says:

ABSOLUTELY UNSURPRISING that his numbers dropped. How much confidence can anyone place in a nitwit who is unable to button his darn shirt????

  36. Maezeppa says:

As many shortcomings as media reportage has had in recent years, I am so grateful to the internet because it has taught me to research from first principles and to tease out the truth and falsify the bad information. What a powerful tool! God bless Al Gore.

As to Bush and his poll numbers. Let’s celebrate a little, and let’s remember that the one power on earth greater than the Bush Administration is American Civil Society.

  37. Mahlon Grube says:

Everyone here seems to believe everything they read on the Internet. Why is everyone so quick to place blame, but not quick to come up with solutions. I don’t believe any of the lies I read here. They must have been put here by the far left wing!

    God Bleee America!!!!

  38. BadBrad says:

Let’s see. He made this speech and his popularity dropped 4 points to 35%. About 2 more speeches and it’s goodbye 30’s and hello 20’s. Sweet!

  39. BadBrad says:

As opposed to what, Mahlon, believing everything you read in the newspapers and see and hear on radio and television. Now there’s a recipe for stupidity.

  42. Don Adams says:

Can you spell disaster? g-e-o-r-g-e b-u-s-h! Yep, folks, george bush is a big disaster that has been looking around for a place to happen for the last five years! I think he found that place about three weeks ago in New Orleans!!

  43. mparker says:

A camera should remain fixed on him 24 x 7 like a White House reality show until even the most cool-aid soaked brain snaps awake.

  44. SpudgeBoy says:

    Mahlon Grube

I don’t think there is one person here the reads everything they believe. Of course, I am not talking about the NeoCons. Those zombies only believe what they are told by their talking point masters.

Nope, the free thinkers here seek out the truth and shout it to the masses.

Do you want to be a zombie or a free thinker.

Free thinkers only watch Fox when they need a good laugh.

  45. mary says:

carolyn…..our voices are supposed to be spoken by those representatives that we voted for…I mean the minority….and they seem to have all come down with a bad case of laryngitis……I keep saying what you are suggesting that the people have to take action…….Right now the RWR’S want to give more power to there ill gotten man………..Can’t you see a peaceful march by millions of us who love our country being turned into a collosal massacre……We the Dems are doomed unless people like Rep Conyers can get a election reform bill passed before 2006….. 2006……..

  46. JoAnne says:

Steve, here is the answer, Independent Television News Network. Google it.

  47. JoAnne says:

Sorry, here is the correct title: Independent World TV News Network

  48. mary says:

Mahlon Grube I have a suggestion You should stop believeing the lies that you hear and see on the MSM……Mahlon…… pleaseeeeeeeeee don’t tell me that you don’t believe that we are in Iraq because of the most abominable LIE ever told to the American people…….Mahlon you need to be our gueat on the internet MORE OFTEN and maybe just maybe you will understand the real meaning of telling the truth………..

  49. Brendan O'Maidian says:

Who’s the yokel who wrote that bush made 700-thou last year? How naive is that? This bunch of thugs and thieves has so many off-shore bank accounts, they are probably floating half of the islands out there. Do you think they sent our troops to Iraq and Afghanistan just to search for Osama, or to establish democracy? Duh. This is all about greed and power, and now that Katrina has chipped in, they’ll make a whole bunch more. They thrive on disasters by using our money to throw around to their cronies, after they take their cuts, of course. This is a new breed of traitors, unknown to all of humankind; and with the help of the mainstream media and fellow lockstop politicians, these guys and gals don’t even care who knows it. They are immunity and impunity personified. They are getting away with murder, quite literally, and they’re making a mint. To believe this evil “leader” of our nation made only 700-thou last year, is an insult to the guy. Be careful, he may send someone after you…one of his mercenaries, perhaps.
    VOTE REPUBLICAN!

  50. GOPHater says:

Still, I have to wonder how the 35% find their way home from church.

  51. Josef Porteleki says:

Almost the entire “news” media should be ashamed for letting G.W. Bush and his entire Cabinet get away with countless lies.
When are the newspapers, radio and TV going to get some guts and sincerity??
This is the worst Presidentcy in the history!!

    He lies and everyone dies!!

  52. Mary Poppin says:

Why cann’t we get a petition in each state demanding for the election we have a paper receipt on how we voted. Maybe this will put a scare in the republican and wake up the democrats.

We the people need to take our country back.

  53. Mary59 says:

Typical staged event. Guess the lights were turned on there just for his speech, then went out again….amazing gall.

Mary Poppin (thought you lived in London :)
so right about the need for a verifiable paper ballot. Here in Oregon we vote by mail. It is a good system with checks & balances in place.

    Mary59

  54. Ryan Neat says:

If this keeps up bush will have to call for another bin laden tape to be released to scare the bejeezus out of americans… Fear, ignorance, cheating and stupidity are the only reliable tools of the right wing – with the mainstream media as the conduit for all of these tools…

  55. PlacitasRoy says:

I found it intriquing to see the difference in Shrub’s eye-Blink patterns. The first time he mentioned ‘taking responisiblity to the extent we have to ” he was blinking like a cornered and trapped rat. The pattern indicated to me a massive disconnect with what he was saying and what he was thinking and feeling.
I wonder what kind of drugs they have him on….he looked almost believable (eye pattern) whne he made his save my ass speech.

  56. not4bushwa says:

    The Trifecta of Incompetence:

    3. FEMA FUBAR: another 1,000 Americans die

IMPEACH BUSH for killing 6,000 Americans through malfeasance and criminal negligence.

  57. Mary Poppin says:

Mary 59 How does that work mailing your ballot in. I live in the midwest. We have ballots which we use a pencil to mark them and then the machine records our vote. I would like to see a receipt on how I voted. I don’t trust this government anymore even my small villege where I live because it is a Republican county.

  58. Alf says:

W was so obviously reading from a script – everything about his presentation changes when he does this. Whenever he tries to expound off the cuff he mangles all principles of good speech – and he proves he has no original and firmly held thought.

    He is a shocker!!!

  59. Ron says:

Actually, he made 784 thousand dollars in 2004.

Plus 400 billion barrels of oil at 63 dollars per barrel.

So, it was a tad more. “Thanks for the oil.”- George Bush and friends

  60. Clyde the Ripper says:

I would wonder about the mail-in vote as well when Oregon produced (?) Kitzhofer(Governor) and Smith (Senator).

  61. Clyde the Ripper says:

    #59

Did you count and include the cost of using Air Force One as a U-haul truck to move the twinky-twins home from college?

  62. francis says:

I did not listen to the speech, for my tolerance of bush is about 3 seconds, so that was a non starter. The other reason was that we would get will be all the propaganda of compasion and it is not my fault etc. in different version and in the end it will be just so much hot air.
I gather that the stage craft was excellent but perhaps they overplayed.
Whether bush can lead has to be PROVEN BY CONCRETE RESULTS.
The chance of that happening can be summed up with slim to none. Too many fat cats are already lining up to swill at the trough and there is not the will or skill to control it. This is true not only at the Hill, but also at the white house.

It will end up just like the reconstruction in Iraq. Billions of dollars spend and nothing to show for it.
This theft and just allout embezzelment of funds, if it happend at the UN, would have been used to condemm and started a witch hunt of gigantic proportion. But as this has been done by Halburton and the usual gang of GOP thieves, no one on the Hill or in the administration will be able to see it or even investigate it.

I think the motto of the GOP is SEE NO EVIL HEAR NO EVIL AND NATURALLY SPEAK NO EVIL.

So the country is run by a morally bankrupt pres and political party.

I wonder when we will have a frontside view of the funeral of this once and no more great country?

  63. David says:

Whatever the approval percentage, the numbers still indicate that there are way too many people who not only gleefully vote against their economic interests, but also wave the flag and vote against this country’s security — all because they hate anyone who is a moderate or left of center. How f’d up is that?

  64. Alan says:

They will vote for Bush or any Republican no matter what because they have been conditioned to believe that Republicans are the only thing that can save them from Hillary Rodham Clinton. Who is, you should know, the most evil single object on the planet because she wants everyone to have affordable health care.

  65. Ryan Neat says:

    David,

They watch the MSM right wing press and don’t know any better. The reichwing propaganda machine also creates images of fear to help disengage their higher brain function. When you see the other side as not human (a terrorist), then it causes all sorts of fight or flight responses that are more animal and less human. This is why if you’ve ever argued with a troll, and presented what is clearly factual and even concrete proof of a point that they simply ignore – it’s because they truly have filtered this information before their rational brain can process it.

Brain scientists and linguists call this ‘framing’ an issue. Once the issue is framed in their mind, anything that doesn’t fit that frame is automatically discarded without reasoned consideration. They can’t help it if they’re stupid – their brain is truly non-functional at that time.

I know for instance that the trolls who fight us on here are too engaged in this brain state to hear anything I say – so I don’t bother with the idea that I’ll ever have any influence on them. They’re clearly too stupid at that moment because of the frame to even be remotely reasonable – instead I bash them so that people who might be on the fence can see that in fact there are real facts that show their insanity is wrong. I personally feel it is a worthwhile exercise for that reason – but not for the purposes of changing the brainwashed.

They call it brainwashed for a reason – their brain is washed free of reason and rationality…

  66. Ryan Neat says:

    Alan,

It’s worse than that – she wants every person to have health care even if they can’t afford it – which means that they might have to contribute a nickel! They’ve got their money – and they don’t want another nickel taken from their greedy little paws!

  67. Dartanyon says:

Well, Bushco’s tried everything to win back the support of the American people and all has failed.

    I guess were due for;

1.) a new terrorist attack on US soil, or
2.) a new war against an imagined enemy

I wonder which it will be???

  68. David says:

Ryan, point well taken. A brief story. Here in NC an ex-police chief was elected to US Congress in the 90s and represented a constituency in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. He served one term and was defeated. The local paper did a feature on him recently for something like his 70th birthday. The story was in part about him being a Foxaholic and how he spends hours each day watching the stuff. The picture that accompanied the story showed him slouched in recliner watching Fox. And this is the garbage that represents us in Washington. And republicans get out of bed each morning with tunnel vision to do whatever it takes to elect more of it.

  69. Lindsay says:

Time for another terror alert. I believe the last one was just before the election last year. I see now where terror is the last thing the American people worry about. (and yet we are move vulnerable, I believe) I wonder what they will do next to try to boost his polling numbers.

  71. KEVIN SCHMIDT says:

This good news makes me wonder, after everything we now know about the Bush/Cheney traitors, thugs n’ thieves, how can 35% of the U.S. population still be so incredibly stooopid?

  72. Sharon Cox says:

Kevin #71 in answer to you question, think it is because all the red state people are in church listening to their own Pat Robertsons and fox net works at sunday dinner. They just have not gotten all the facts yet. Keep on telling the truth and demanding the media report it, they’ll come around…
    Blessings

  73. Bobby says:

We just returned from a backyard party and after a while politics came up (I didn’t do it!) One said, Cindy Sheehan was a bad mother, divorced and sponsored by (implied=evil) Michael Moore. Another said “those people” from New Orleans should go far away from here. Another said New Orleans is a dirty pit and should be bulldozed a la Hastert, and the Governor and Mayor are the problem. Another said there were 20,000 buses left in the flood. One said she gets her information from Emails. One watches the 700 club.
Of course, I spoke up, as much as I could without destroying someone’s birthday party, but my point is that this is what we are up against. Ignorance to the nth degree.

  74. Nancy L. says:

#67 Dartanyon In answer to your question? Meet our new enemy……..Iran. Rice was speaking to the UN, yesterday(?), and was quoted as saying, once the UN has exhausted the peaceful ways of getting Iran to stop building nuclear weapons, then I guess we’re going to have to go in and ‘kick their butts’. I heard the new President of Iran, isn’t impressed with us, basically, I guess, he’s saying “bring it on”.

To the person who was talking about the MSM, it won’t change, as their are owned and operated by the people who Bush plays golf with, who contribute heavily to his campaigns. CNN’s parent company is AOL, a big contributor to RePugs. Never bite the hand that feeds you!

  75. Alibe says:

Bush should be forced to resign. At least in demanding that, we acknowlege the fact that he won’t be impeached by his fellow corrupt republicans, But we feel he has to resign for the good of the country. Three strikes and your out. Enough is enough. We can’t take it anymore. At least it is a demand that could happen. We must demand that other republicans get him and his corrupt fools resign or their party will be held accountable for this mess.

  76. Marie says:

35% still support him. That alone is astonishing.

  77. anonanonanon says:

    Bobby 73,
Obviously you are going to the wrong parties…

  78. MaryJane says:

The mighty winds of hurricane Katrina roared through this nation, and revealed what many already knew – that the emperor who misled the nation with smoke and mirrors, had no clothes. The country is beginning to wake up and realize that they have an incompetent, delusional, and out of touch leader, whose priority is to only take care of the wealthy. God help the USA.

  79. kjlovell says:

I noticed a comment on what dumbya needs to improve his poll #s. The options were

    1. Another terror attack on U.S. soil
    2. War with an imagined enemy

I believe it will be option #2. They have been setting the stage for this one for a few weeks. However Mother Nature slowed them down. Being ever resourseful, they found a way to steal billions of dollars even in that unfortunate event.

    CHIMPEACH!

  80. Nancy L. says:

#79 Do you think he’ll try something he’s already done? You don’t think they’ll try to come up with something else? Bush might want to try one of the options, but his handlers are a lot smarter than he is.
I wonder if they won’t try something the American people wouldn’t expect. They must realize that too many of the people in this country have seen thru them.

  81. J in LA says:

You’ve all taken the time to write such great comments on how totally inept Bush is and how his adminstration has ruined this country but have you taken your protests to the next step? I have by writing my elected officials to remove Bush from office now. As Americans we can no longer stand idlly by and simply watch as this administration drags this country further into depths from which we may never recover.
So if you haven’t done so yet do it right now, today, write your congressmen and tell them to Impeach Bush NOW! As one we can make a difference!!!!!!!

  82. kjlovell says:

#80, remember this is the chimp that says stay the course, be vigilant. one-track-mind. His handlers also feel this way. You know they turned a blind eye to North Korea, while saying Iran is a threat.

As for #81….. Hey I do my part. I suspect Howard Dean does not e-mail you, he does me. So do many of the congressmen and senators in this country. I have taken the fight to them. I stand tall.

Don’t assume people do nothing, that is dumbya’s mistake. I am here, like Howard Dean. We preach the truth, we preach it loudly. We preach it often. Trolls and skels beware.

  83. kjlovell says:

and #81, not only do I contact people in power, I write every news organization and newspaper available. I tell them to report the truth, not right-wing talking points. I hold their feet to the fire. I am not your average American that has opinions and does not act on them. Right or wrong, I hold my own.

  84. kjlovell says:

Sorry to post in parts, but I urge everyone here to do the same:

E-mail your and other Senators, Congressmen and even the criminal-in-chief!

    Make your voice heard.

Visit your Senators offices, Congressmens offices, newspapers, local tv stations. E-mail is great, but it won’t do the trick! You have to be there in person, be polite, but be resolute! Stand tall, walk proudly and don’t let them change the subject! Be locked and loaded with facts and be ready to shoot them down.

We are the people, we make the difference! We will win!

  85. gtash says:

Okay, it is time to get crass and start assembling the sound bytes and images we all need to show to voters in Nov 2006 and by Nov 2008.

The person who talked about trying to locate who is in charge of disaster relief so he could discount his computers for Gulf State schools: “Pay-to-Play” is a nice way to refer to “cronyism” (which is awkward and old fashioned and resonates only with those who might recall Tammany Hall (sp?).

I want to hear speaker after speaker use that expression and tie it to Bush’s corporate welfare policies. Pay with your lobbying money, and play when the pork-barrel money rains down.

This is but one example. I have seen several in the words and thoughts of bloggers over the past two weeks. A Bartlett’s Quotations of anti-Bush remarks should be assembled, and cover the range from insulting to snide to eloquent to merely useful and truthful expressions.

There are better ways to express what our political class has been unable and unwilling to articulate.

I am going to start at clip-file on my desktop. Windows Notepad.

  86. Ron Russell says:

I think that those who want to get rid of the Bush adminstration or at least stop it dead in it’s tracks are closer than they realize. The MSM is hyping a Red Herring in the “1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act and the day everyone will be shocked will be when the Fitzgerald Grand Jury returns indictments for Perjury, Obstruction of Justice, Lying to Investigators (they lie to everyone–so this is a “no brainer”), Destruction of Evidence, Intimidation of Witnesses and my favorite 2 Charges, Violations of Title 18, Sections 793 and 794. Take a look at the terms of Rove’s violated Non-Disclosure Agreement:

I have been advised that any unauthorized disclosure of classified information by me may constitute a violation, or violations, of United States criminal laws, including the provisions of Sections 641, 793, 794, 798, 952 and 1924, Title 18, United States Code, the provisions of Section 783(b), Title 50, United States Code, and the provisions of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982.”

    http://www.fas.org/sgp/isoo/sf312.html

You will note that the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act is mentioned LAST! It has a higher standard for conviction and lesser penalties than the laws, which I believe Rove, Libby and possibly Cheney (or even Smirky himself) will be indicted for by Fitzgerald’s Grand Jury. In another case involving Title 18, Section 794 the court held that giving this information to the press was the same thing as giving it directly to spies! It’s laughable to imagine the perpeTRAITORS will argue that “the enemy” wouldn’t have access to the information reported by Novak to the world. To such a defensive argument the court in Morison stated:

“Finally, the danger to the United States is just as great when this information is released to the press as when it is released to an agent of a foreign government. The fear in releasing this type of information is that it gives other nations information concerning the intelligence gathering capabilities of the United States. That fear is realized whether the information is released to the world at large or whether it is released only to specific spies.”

    http://www.mtsu.edu/%7Elburriss/morison.html

To prove the necessary “intent” under 794, Fitzgerald only has to present sufficient evidence that Rove and others knew the enemy would have access to the main stream media at the time they communicated information relating to the public defense to Novak and/or other reporters

Remember, a violation of Title 18, Section 794(b) during War Time merits DEATH (carefully read the first and last sentences):

“Whoever, in time of war, with intent that the same shall be communicated to the enemy, collects, records, publishes, or communicates, or attempts to elicit any information with respect to the movement, numbers, description, condition, or disposition of any of the Armed Forces, ships, aircraft, or war materials of the United States, or with respect to the plans or conduct, or supposed plans or conduct of any naval or military operations, or with respect to any works or measures undertaken for or connected with, or intended for the fortification or defense of any place, or any other information relating to the public defense, which might be useful to the enemy, shall be punished by death or by imprisonment for any term of years or for life.”

    http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sec_18_00000794—-000-.html

Based on what is already known, Karl (Lewis Libby and others) are liable for Title 18, Section 794 and are also vulnerable under Title 18, Section 793:

    http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sec_18_00000793—-000-.html

Remember, just failing to report an unintended disclosure is a violation under Title 18, Section 793.

Unlike the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act, neither of these statutes has a high standard for conviction. The “intent” requirement is virtually nil and there is no requirement that Plame be “covert”. In fact, the only threshold is that it “harm the public defense” or “be used to the injury of the United States, or to the advantage of any foreign nation”.

Pass it on. If Bush and his cronies are busy playing defense, they won’t have time to construct elaborate lies and we can limit the damage until they are thrown out.

Finally, remember that Bush does NOT have the power to Pardon IMPEACHABLE crimes. Take a look at the Constitution Article 2, Section 3, Clause 1, “The President…shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

  87. Mary Poppin says:

#85 Ron Thanks for all the great information. If Bush and Cheney were impeached would Dennis Hastert be next in line for President? I do not like this guy.
    We need to be careful.

  88. Ron Russell says:

    Mary (Post #88):

First off, you are most welcome. I’ve promised the person who provided me this inforamation (and there is tons more if you Google “TreasonGate”), that I’d do my best in consolidating things down and posting where ever I saw it relevant–please feel free to do the same.

As to your question, under present circumstance, it would mean Hastert would take over–but hey ANYTHING is better than what we have. Let’s suppose the Indictments come down, but that the litigation gets extended into the next election. Then, add this to all the other things that have gone south thanks to the Rethuglicans way of governance and you have a perfect storm. Regardless of Indictments, I don’t see the Republicans as calling “Hearings” and think they would stonewall. But if this mess precipated a change in control of the House, then the “Hearings” would begin in Jan 07 and afterward, the new Speaker would take over if both the Vice President and Bush were to be Impeached. I say “Vice President” instead of Cheney for a reason.

  89. Marie says:

    #80, Nancy,
Even if the Bushies recognize that much of the public is seeing through their lies now, they still have all the power, and they already have a “so, what — wanna make something out of it?” attitude. I am not so sure that they wouldn’t begin another war or raise the terror level with a “tape just released” in order to send the public hiding under the bed.

  90. Marie says:

    #85 Ron,
I hope you’re right – I will pop the champagne if the indictments are handed down – but Fitzgerald is also deeply involved in the trial of former Ill. Gov. Ryan which starts this week, and I sure hope he has sufficient staff to keep everything on target.

  91. Marie says:

    Ron, Great information.
If indictments do come down, do you agree that they would be so damaged, they would not be able to spin out of it? Whether Hastert becomes de facto prez. or there is a different sequence of events, I think they would be adrift at sea.

  92. deegahl says:

Ron: It goes without saying that if this investigation nabs but one of the top three (Bush, Cheney, Rove) it will be a great, wonderous day for the Constitution and the people of the United States of America.

Their abuse has been omnipresent and disgusting at the same time. I suppose I am still a tad skeptical(Fitzgerald is a GOP appointee, right?) being that the Roveians have wormed there way out of so much before(WMD, Al Qua Qua, Bin Laden-MIA, etc..) and the folks never seem to care anyway!

Great job on the research and listing the different ways this could (I HOPE) turn out. Could Hastert just pull a Gerald Ford and let them all off the hook?
Again I say great job. I knew I was a dem for a reason, we have people like you combing under rocks for for any sort of clue out there. How do you think the indicments will be leaked, or will I just go home and see it on the nightly news?

  93. Sharon Cox says:

Wow! Great stuff Ron. Hope it work’s. Been realy upset, nothing seemed to be happening with the impeach Bush lately…Blessings

  94. kjlovell says:

Just wait until 9/24, if the MSM gets off it’s butt and reports the gathering storm around the WH it will push some of the people off the fence.

I hope Hurricane Cindy shakes the WH to it’s very foundation & blows the trash right out of there.

About that time is when Fitzgerald is supposed to hand out the indictments.

It is certianly looking like a beautiful fall! (season or fall? you decide)

  95. David B says:

I wish his ratings fell to single digits. This has been the biggest idiot to ever hold the office in 230 years. Hopefully, Carter/Baker can master some election reforms soon so these fascists don’t steal the 2008 election.

  96. Grace says:

Now that I read Ron’s posts, I am more sure than ever that Roberts must not be confirmed. I think he is a ringer and will sway the court, if indeed these indictments come down. You know that they will be appealed(sp) somehow to the Supreme Court. That is where Bush got his power in the first place.

I was just on the Democrats.com blog where supposedly diehard democrats were bashing Dean about his Op-Ed opposing Roberts. They don’t want a united Democratic front here. The idea is to divide the party. I just hope the spineless ones will see the reality soon.

  97. doncom says:

(Carolyn …..You are so right that our only hope is in getting paper ballots in every state in time for the 2006 elections….But how in the name of God are we going to perform this miracle?????????

    Comment by mary — September 18, 2005 @ 2:36 pm)

We need to have a Boston Tea Party in every town in the US. Make effigies of the Diaboldt “voting” machines; arm ourselves with info about how these crooked machines steal our votes; carry petitions to deliver to our local officials demanding fairly counted elections; and drown these crooked machines.

At a minimum, it will put rethugs on the defensive and increase the number of people questioning the validity of these machines.

At a maximum, it may make our elections on a local level fairly counted and put some spine in our Dems.

Can someone please tell me how an obviously, toe-scuffing, insincere “I really don’t mean it but my Mom made me come over to apologize for putting that baseball through your French doors” apology actually raise his approval ratings by 4 points???

He turned his pointy head to the left and didn’t have the nerve to look in the camera when he murmered, “I take responsibility.”

Are we really so incredibly stupid as a nation to be taken in by an obvious sham of an apology? What were 45,000,000 Americans doing during the last election, channeling Terri fucking Schiavo?!

    MOTHERS FOR ANSWERS

What’s the point of opening your mouth, if your relentless next move is to put your foot in it?

All these swell neo-cons that decided that this was the best that America could offer Halliburton now have
to own up to the idea that this entire administration is clueless.

Karl Rove is the Master Plate-Spinner of PR. Exactly how much good will that do anyone in New Orleans?
Being dissed-resistant does not put a roof over your head.

The way everyone has handled these past few weeks gives a whole new resonance to the fact that A Confederacy of Dunces was set in New Orleans.

Are they all planning to have an entire city commute away from every hurricane every hurricane season?
Who is going to be held accountable and jailable for diverting money away form the levees and into Iraq?

How much more folly before we dump the Bush League and give Hastert a chance at cleaning things up? Rich boys, as Fitzgerald in Gatsby noted, think that the reason that other people exist is to clean up their messes. Or not. This is Bush’s 19th Feckless Breakdown. Why should he get to have a 20th?

Cheney can conveniently clutch his chest and go count Halliburton’s money as an alternative to realizing he is going to very soon have to be answering a lot of very interesting questions.

The rest of the cabinet can fly to Hollywood and film the re-make of Dr. Strangelove, Or, how I Learned to Stop Worrying and Lost New Orleans.

You did a great job of summarily discounting us as nuts, yet you didn’t offer a single response that disproves anything said here.
